Builder's Lunch in January

On January 20th, a potluck for the Builder's group (55 and better), was held at the church. After the meal, several couples who were on a cruise to Alaska showed their slides to the group.

Men's Retreat 2009

The annual men's retreat at Miracle Bible Camp was held Friday & Saturday, January 30th and 31st.

The featured speaker was Dr. Steven Hostetter. He has been the President of Oak Hills Christian College since July 2008. He has previously served as a youth pastor and associate pastor and was on staff of Alaska Bible College for 16 years, with nine years as their President. Steve and his wife have three grown, married children and three granchildren. The men attending were challenged and encouraged as Steve opened God's Word with us.

Different seminars were offered, and many recreational options such as broomball, ice fishing, snowshoeing, game room, and time to relax, drink coffee and catch up with friends.

Proverbs 27:17 "As iron sharpens iron, so one man sharpens another."

New Time for Men's Prayer Breakfast

The men at Grace Bible Chapel have enjoyed a time of fellowship and prayer for over 40 years. They have recently changed the time they are meeting. It is now set for 7:30 a.m. on Tues. mornings. Working men, please feel free to leave as needed to get to work. All men are welcome.

Thanksgiving for the Builders

The Builder's Group met at Grace Bible Chapel on the 18th of November for a delicous turkey dinner, with all the trimmings. The dinner was cooked and served by the Grace Christian school students, staff and helpers. Sixty-two members of the Builders group joined us for our meal.

Following our meal, the Kindergarten through 4th Grade students gave us a concert of Thanksgiving songs.

A big THANK YOU to all those who made this such a special occasion for us!

A Gift for the King

Last fall, our Chapel family was challenged with the "Widow's Mite" project to help pay down our mortgage principle. Last year, approximately $125,000 in donations were given and applied to the principle, resulting in a savings of $150,000 in interest alone. Our five year balloon payment comes due next fall, so we must refinance by November 2009.

"A Gift for the King" gives us the opportunity to reduce the mortgage principle before refinancing, thus putting us in the best possible position. If you would like to make a donation , there are green envelopes found in the pews which may be used for this project until the end of the year. These donations should be "above and beyond" our regular giving. You may also give anytime during the year, as many of you are already doing. This is a special "Gift for the King" to help reduce our mortgage debt.

Open Door Coat Rack

There were sixteen area churches gathering coats during October for the Open Door Coat Rack--and Grace Bible Chapel was one of them. The distribution of the coats happened the last week in October.

The chairman of the project this year reported that more than 1,500 coats, jackets and snow pants were collected. Nine hundred and sixty-nine people were served in the three days of distribution. Both children and adults received jackets and/or snow pants. Sixty-two came just for hats and mittens.

The remaining coats went to the Zion Lutheran Clothes Closet, so they are still available to serve people in the community. The remaining coats were transported to the Eveleth United Methodist Church for a coat distribution in mid-November. There were a very few hats and mittens left, but they went to the Ball Club community for distribution at Christmas.

Camp Granola

All the campers that were at Camp Granola over the weekend want to give a BIG THANK YOU to their camp staff: Sue P., Kathy T. and Sue B. They went above and beyond to make the “get away” a special time for all those who attended. “All the work the staff did made the campers feel very special.” many ladies said afterwards. Many of the descriptions used about this weekend were: excellent event, delicious food, a useful craft project, enjoyable, relaxing, warm fellowship with women of all stages in life, heart-felt testimonies, great time of singing around the campfire, wonderful massage and stretching. All in all a very special time of pampering and fellowship together. THANK YOU!

Daniel Boone Comes to the Fall Sportman's Breakfast

On Sat., September 13th, Mark Sage came to speak as Daniel Boone at the Fall Sportsman's Breakfast. The morning started out with a hearty breakfast of pancakes, sausage, juice, coffee and milk. After eating, Mark explained about the myths and facts about Daniel Boone, and how much of our ideas are formed by the television and movies we've watched about Daniel Boone.

Mark had quotes from Daniel Boone himself, showing that he was a born again Christian. Daniel Boone expressed his love for his Lord and based his salvation on Jesus Christ.

Daniel outlived his wife and seven of their children. His faith in God helped him through those trials.

During Daniel's travels from Pennsylvania to North Carolina, over the Cumberland Gap into Kentucky, to Missouri, and a trip to the Yellowstone Country, he brought his Bible and Gulliver's Travels.

Mark brought many items to show the group, so they could better understand life on the frontier. He also showed a movie about loading and firing a flintlock rifle. Mark has used his flintlock to take bear, deer, and grouse.

Dick and Donna Payfer have been married for 59.5 years and have been attending Grace Bible chapel for 23 of those years!

They have four children, Susan, Richard, Holly & Bonnie. The have eleven grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren.

Dick retired from Minnesota Power after 34 years as an electrician there. Donna was a full time mother until their children were grown. Then she was the secretary of Business Affairs for ISD #316.

Together they enjoy music. They play and sing with a gospel group, the “Joyful Heirs”, which sings in nursing homes. Dick enjoys wood working, intarsia (a technique of decorating a surface with inlaid patterns of wood), basket making and stained glass. Donna enjoys serving, painting and being a homemaker.

Dick’s favorite Bible verse is: Hebrews 13:5 “I will never leave you nor forsake you.”

Donna’s favorite Bible verse is: Nehemiah 8:10 “The joy of the Lord is my strength.”

FAMILY FUN DAY AND CORN FEED

Last Sunday the church family at Grace Bible Chapel participated in a Family Fun Day. The Sunday School hour started with a recognition and dedication of the Sunday School teachers and a presentation of Bibles to those students moving from second to third grade. Then the Durocher Family gave a concert that was enjoyed by all. After the Morning Worship Service, we were treated to a delicious corn feed and hot dog roast.

Following our meal, slushies, popcorn and cotton candy was enjoyed by the children and adults alike. There were many games set up for the children to participate in--staffed by many volunteers! Outside there were organized games for the older children and ongoing games of softball and volleyball for the older teens and adults.

At 2:00 p.m. there were drawings for door prizes for the children.

A BIG THANK YOU to all those who planned and implemented such a special day for the church family!

Family Camp 2008

Last Wednesday through Saturday, families from Grace Bible Chapel gathered at Miracle Bible Camp on Woman Lake for a time of fellowship, fun, Bible teaching and a time to get to know the Dane Hanson family who serve as missionaries with Operation Mobilization in Europe. Dane challenged us from Paul's time in Philippi in Acts 16. Starting with Lydia, a seeker after God, the slave girl that was healed who was delivered from bondage and the Philippi jailer who was helped through a crisis. The Hansons also shared slides of their work in the Balkans.

The Builder's group came out on Thurs., and joined the group for the morning session, lunch and a time of fellowship in the afternoon.

Thank you to the Hanson family for sharing with us, to Bill and Betty Lou Benson for keeping us organized, to those who worked with the children, and to the staff of Miracle Bible Camp.

Dave and Kim Scott have been attending Grace Bible Chapel for three years. They have two children, Stephanie and Ashlynn.

David is a Business Account Manager with Unicel. Kim is able to stay at home with the girls.

Kim loves to go for walks, biking, going to the beach and hanging out with family. David loves spending time with Kim and his girls, listening to Christian music and attending sporting events.

Kim’s favorite Bible verse is: Psalms 46:10 “Be still and know that I am God.” David’s is Proverbs 24:3 “By wisdom a house is built, and through understanding it is established.”

Builder's Road Trip to the Farm

The next opportunity for fellowship with the Builder's Group will be on Thurs., September 16th.

The Builder's Group will be heading out to the Schjenken's Farm north of Deer River. They will enjoy a pot luck lunch while there.

Last week the Builder's group participated in the camping activities, heard a session from the visiting missionaries, the Dane and Mirjam Hanson family, as well as enjoyed a lunch with the church family at Family Camp held at Mircle Bible Camp on Woman Lake.

Teen Challenge Golf Tournament

Area golfers enjoyed participating in the Northland Teen Challenge Golf Tournament. Four golfers from Grace Bible Chapel played in the tournament. A delicious buffet dinner was served. The Teen Challenge Men's Choir performed. Many of the men gave their testimonies as to Christ's healing of their addictions.

Women's Ministries at Grace Bible Chapel

Grace Bible Chapel's Women's Ministry is starting with a Beth Moore Bible Study, Believing God: Experiencing a Fresh Explosion of Faith. It will be a ten week Bible Study, with two different times it will be offered: Wednesdays (Sept. 10 through Nov. 12) from 9 to 11 A.M. and Thursday (September 11 through Nov. 13) from 6:30 to 8:30 P.M.

A Member Book includes personal interactive studies five days a week, plus viewer guides for the group video sessions, studying the lives of Abraham, Moses, and others from Hebrews 11 as examples of persons who believed God.

The cost of the study material is $21. Registration, with your payment, needs to be turned in no later than Sunday, August 31. Checks should be made payable to Grace Bible Chapel.

Please place your registration (your choice of day to attend the Bible Study and your name) and payment in an offering envelope and place it in the offering or drop it at the church office.

FAMILY CAMP COMING IN AUGUST

Take a break at Family Camp on August 20 through the 23rd at Miracle Bible Camp near Longville, Minnesota.

From Wednesday afternoon through Saturday lunch will be a great opportunity for relaxation, fun and fellowship, in addition to spirtual encouragement from the Word of God.

Dane and Mirjam Hanson, one of Grace Bible Chapel's missionary families, will be our camp speakers. There will be ample opportunities for kids and adults of all ages to enjoy their time at camp.

Father's Day Fish Fry

On Sunday, June 15th, Grace Bible Chapel held it's annual Father's Day Fish Fry. There was lots of delicious fish for all to enjoy! Worship music started out the program, lead by Nathan and Heidi Wright, Sherry Sexton, Haley Welk, Jacey Cowan, Nadiya Davunt, Janelle Benson and Dick & Donna Payfer. With special music by Deb Overlee, Sue Doell and Mary Dorholt.

Ross Patton gave the devotional about What a Real Man is.

Katie and Matt Simmons are some of the friendly people that greet us as we come to worship at Grace Bible Chapel. Katie has attended Grace for about 18 years, starting as a young girl in AWANA, and attending Grace Christian School from second grade through 9th grade. Matt has attended Grace for about nine years, starting after they were married.

Katie and Matt have three children. Baylee who is 4 ½ years old, Haylen, who is 3 years old, and Jaymen who is 21 months.

Matt works for Cutsforth Products and Katie is a homemaker full time. Matt enjoys four-wheeling and mudding. Katie enjoys photography and being outdoors, as well as sewing.

Chris teaches preschool for Invest Early. Mark works at UPM - Blandin.

Frank and Shirley Mustar have been attending Grace Bible Chapel for fourteen years. They have three children, Mary, Michael and Joe.

Before their retirement, Frank was a Junior High Counselor in the White Bear Lake School district. Shirley was a Media Center Secretary in White Bear Lake as well.

Frank said his favorite hobbies are woodworking, volunteering, fishing and hunting. Shirley said she likes to sew, knit, work on their computer, do puzzles and counted cross stitch.

Frank said his favorite Bible verse is: Romans 8:28 "And we know that God causes all things to work together for good to those who love God,

to those who are called according to His purpose."

Congregational Q & A

Wednesday night was the congregational questions & answers with Rev. Ken Polley regarding the likely interim pastoral considerations. Polley is visiting Grace Bible Chapel this week to consider helping the church in the time span leading to a new senior pastor. He is willing to start in June, working two to three full days a week, being an anchor of leadership in times of change. Emmanuel Ministries is the organization backing Polley to do this kind of work, and he has four to five years under his belt guiding other congregations in similar situations. Ken Polley believes it will take a few months before he will get a true sense of the church environment to make informed decisions on which direction to guide Grace Bible...

Bruce and Margo Hansen have attended Grace Bible Chapel for eleven years.

They have three children. Megan (Luke) Hilgendorf, Brooke (Travis) Streblow, and Casey Hansen. Bruce works for UPM, Blandin, and Margo is a Homemaker.

Their favorite hobbies are woodworking, crafts and riding their motorcycle.
