If you are a believer, you have the redemption of your spirit now but not yet the redemption of your body. A time is coming, though, when your physical body will be transformed into the likeness of Jesus' own glorious body, and you will then be equipped to enjoy those blessings of eternity to the fullest extent.
We consider two things:
*That your body will be raised and glorified, and
*That this will happen when Jesus returns.

Being raised to glory at all is based on trusting Jesus alone for salvation and walking with Him in holiness. Make sure, therefore, that this is your condition!

120520am - What Will Convince You? - Luke 16:19-31

Jesus says you already have enough evidence of God's existence and of your need for a savior to give you no excuse for unbelief. So even if you were to see a miracle, it wouldn't take you from a position where you didn't have enough evidence to one where you did; it would make no difference to your present situation. What will convince you, then?

We see that there is no problem with the evidence - the problem is in your heart:
*You know God exists;
*You know He is holy;
*You know you have broken His commandments;
*You know there is judgment coming.

God tells you in His Word that Jesus is the only Savior He has given Who can change this situation if you will trust in Him. Isn't it time to repent and believe?

We consider why, if we are believers, death is our friend and not our enemy, as it brings us to heaven, where Jesus is.

If we walk with the Lord in holiness from the heart, then:
*First, when we die we will enter into heaven, and
*Second, and even more glorious, we will enter into our Lord's presence.

Paul tells us this is so much better than anything we have or can have here on earth. We are all urged to seek the Lord that we might hunger and thirst for His presence here on earth, but above all, in the glory of heaven.

We consider what makes a man unclean and unacceptable to God, and conversely, how to clean up our lives. We see two things:
*First, that an unclean life comes from an unclean heart, and
*Second, if you would clean up your life, you must first deal with your heart.

What can you do?
You can go to God. By His Spirit He can clean your heart, He can break the power of sin, and He can give you love for what is good, all because of what Jesus did in His life, and especially in His death upon the cross.
You need to go to Him and ask Him for this blessing.

If you are a child of God and you walk with the Lord in holiness, He will take away your fear of death.

We consider three points.

First, that the Son of God became a man for His people;
Second, that He died to overcome the power the devil had over them; and
Third, He has taken away the fear of death from them.
Jesus died so that His people would no longer need to be afraid of death. Have you trusted in Jesus? If you haven't, then you have to turn to Jesus in faith and away from your sins, or your fear will only grow stronger as you grow closer to judgment. If you have, then death, far from being an enemy, will be a welcome friend.

If you love Jesus, He says, you will keep His commandments. This morning, we consider three things:

First, the Lord wants you to obey His commandments,
Second, He wants you to be careful not to add or subtract from them, and
Third, this is how you show Him that you love Him.
Do you see the commandments as the perfect standard of an absolutely holy love, and keep them for that reason? If so, there is good reason to believe that you truly love God and are His child. Alternatively, do you try to work around the commands, making them say what you want them to say because you really don't want to keep them? If so, you do not love God at all and you need to turn to Him for forgiveness and salvation.

We consider that if we will walk with the Lord, He will make us fruitful throughout our lives, even to old age. We see two things:
*First, what the Lord means when He says we will be fruitful.
*Second, that the Lord promises He will make us fruitful to the end of our lives if we will walk with Him.
We are challenged to strive to know the Lord, to be useful to Him now, and to do all we can to glorify Him now. If we do this, He will continue to use us throughout our lives until He finally comes to bring us home.

Knowing what Jesus was able to do, the people of Gennesaret began to scour the land looking for those who needed healing and they brought them to Jesus. Wherever He went, those who knew what He was capable of laid the sick in public places so that they might just touch the edge of His garment. As many as reached out in faith and touched Him were healed.

We consider two things:

That you should seek to bring everyone you know to Jesus, but
You should also be ready to deal with the fact that most won't want to come.
If you haven't trusted in Jesus, you really are in danger; Jesus is the only Savior. If you will believe in Him, He will rescue you. Reach out to Him while He draws near to you in the Gospel and be saved.

We see what a great blessing God has given His children by sending His angels to minister to them. We consider:
*That angels are very holy and powerful spiritual beings.
*That they were created to serve God in the work of redemption, and
*That they still serve Him today by ministering to God's children.
Believers are encouraged to serve God in the consciousness that a vast army of angels are engaged in their defence, guidance, refreshment and in many other ways, according to the will of God.

120422am - Guard Against a Hard Heart - Mark 6:45-52

After feeding the 5000, Jesus sent his disciples across the sea to Bethsaida. After sending the crowd away, Jesus spent several hours in prayer before walking out on the water to reach his disciples. They were scared and surprised to see Him do this.

There are two things we should learn from this:

First, that Jesus did what He did in His ministry to strengthen the faith of His people, and
Second, that we need to guard our hearts from becoming hard, which the passage informs us is what had happened to the disciples. Prayer is a great help to overcome hardness of heart.
We are challenged to stop doubting and to believe - to stop living as though the Bible isn't true, as though God doesn't exist, or as though Jesus doesn't stand ready to help and to answer prayers - as though He isn't really sovereign. We are to believe what He says and live in the reality that He is in control. As long as we harden our hearts against the truth, we are in danger but if we will listen and believe, we will be saved.

We consider the ministry of the Spirit and the four of the main blessings He brings.
*He regenerates you,
*He teaches you,
*He helps you pray, and
*He comforts you.
Do you know these blessings? Have you experienced them? If you're not trusting Jesus, any comfort or security you have is only an illusion - like a mirage in the desert. If you would know these blessings of the Spirit, you must believe on Jesus as your Savior, and turn from your sins and submit to Him as Lord.

As the Good Shepherd of His people, we see Jesus concerned to provide for the material as well as the spiritual needs of His sheep. He performs a miracle that shows He is God and underlines the teaching He has given as the Word of God, but it also provides for the physical needs of His listeners. By application, we understand that:

Jesus is the One who cares for our spiritual needs if we have trusted in Him.
Jesus is the One who cares for our physical needs if we have trusted in Him.
We are challenged to follow the example of Christ in looking after the physical and spiritual needs among the people of God but also further afield.

We consider the intercession of Jesus Christ. We're not perfect - we need His righteousness to cover your imperfection, we need His death to pay for your sins, and we need His continuing ministry.

We see two things:

There is one who continually accuses you before the Father - the devil, but
There is One who stands to your defense: the Lord Jesus Christ, if you are trusting Him this evening.
If you don't trust in Jesus, you're finished. Trust Him now, and He will come to your defense. Trust Him and He will cleanse you, clothe you, make you acceptable. One day you will stand before Him and wished that you had. Today is the day of His grace - take hold of Him by faith, and be safe.

After His crucifixion, Jesus rose from the dead on the third day.

What should the resurrection mean to you? If you're a believer, you should be happy. The One you love is alive! He's free from death! He has the power of life, and He's shown you by giving you life. He's satisfied the debt of your sin, you will pass safely through the Judgment. Rejoice then, and praise Him for all His goodness to you!

But what about you who haven't trusted Him? You should be afraid. The fact that Jesus was raised means there will be a final judgment - He will be your judge. You will be raised and judged on that final day for all your sins unless you repent and turn to the Savior. So why wait any longer?

We may not think of discipline as a blessing, but our passage shows us that it is. The Lord can use it to guide us when we choose to go down the wrong path, but He uses it to bring other blessings as well.

*Why God disciplines, and
*What we should do when we are disciplined.

We are challenged to be thankful that God is willing to help us by applying His fatherly discipline.

We consider another promise God makes to his children: protection. He will give us courage and will protect us as we work to do His will. We consider two things:

First, the Lord gives us a reason to be courageous through His promise of protection, and
Second, He has also promised to give us courage by strengthening your heart through His Spirit.
God will give us protection and courage if we will only trust Him.

120318am - The Problem of Familiarity - Mark 6:1-6

Familiarity breeds comtempt. When Jesus returned to Nazareth, the citizens did not accept His teaching beacuse they were so familiar with him. Here is an obstacle to evangelism: the problem of familiarity.

We consider two things:

First, that Jesus had to face this problem, and
Second, that we will have to face it as well.
Even though most of the citizens didn't believe and didn't want to listen to Jesus, He didn't let that stop Him from doing what was right - He still ministered the Gospel to them. There are many other obstacles as well - should we let them stand in our way? If we do, we'll never advance the Gospel.

Do not to let anything stand in your way.
