The Fair Booth Committee will book a trainer for a Safe Food Handling Course to be held at the Church sometime in June 2019, just in time for the Fair Booth season next year. 

Details and cost to follow.   This course will be open to anyone & everyone in the Grace United Church family.  Hopefully, we can have 20+ people sign up, for considerable savings in the cost of the course.

The "Kairos Blanket Exercise" is an experiential depiction of the effect of colonization on Indigenous peoples in Canada.  As part of the Aboriginal Storytelling month a free "Blanket Exercise" will be hosted by Lloydminster Public School Division students:

A Lenten Book Study is planned for four Thursdays in February, at 9:30am. The book will be, Firewater, How Alcohol is Killing My People and Yours, by Harold R. Johnson.  Rev. Paul will lead the discussion.  So read the book and be ready for coffee and conversation at 9.30 a.m. February 1, 8, 15 and 22.  Check at the office for a loaner.

February 24th is the Coldest Night of the Year fundraiser for the Lloydminster Men's Shelter.  We have a team for the fundraiser!  You can join by going to coldestnightoftheyear.org           Location: Lloydminster  Unitedwalkers is our team.

Despite competing with Halloween and the weather, the men and women of this congregation worked diligently with setting up, hauling, sorting, unpacking, and pricing a variety of items!  Workers made sales, cashiers and wrappers processed them and others tallied it at day’s end and then delivered the night deposits to the bank. We had kitchen workers that fed, watered and socialized this whole crew and then in their spare time cleaned up all the dusty articles that were to be sold.  After the final closing it became a bee hive again with repacking all unsold items, loading them up into the trucks and having them delivered to the other charitable organizations.  We thank each and every one of you that took part with your time and donations!

We are once again pleased to announce that we netted $8,346.02, which will go directly to the Building Fund!  Book sales included.

The job would run from September 1st – June 10th each year, with approximately 20-25 hours of work per week with benefits.

Responsibilities would be focusing on family and intergenerational events. To innovatively plan, prepare and execute the family and youth events at least one event a month. To ensure that Sunday School programs are running smoothly and creatively including the preparing of curriculum and ordering supplies.

In 1997 the United Church released “that all may be one” This educational tool was aimed at ending racism.  This was an issue on which, over the years, the church has a mixed record.  As other groups that have suffered discrimination in the United Church found their voices, gays, lesbians, bisexuals, and transgender people also sought to be heard.  #lovewins

Ten years after the 1988 decision, the United Church’s Division om Mission in Canada was concerned about stories and comments it was hearing from gay, lesbian, and bisexual persons in ministry or studying to become ministers.  It met with the Division of Ministry Personnel and education and together the two divisions sponsored a consultation in 1999 in Winnipeg.  #lovewins

The 1999 consultation win Winnipeg was the first and only time that members of the United Church of Canada who were gay, lesbian or bisexual met together in formal consultation with the national church.  There was no record of who participated.  The consultation report, “Lesbian, gay and bisexual persons in Ministry”, contained many stories and hopes and pains and celebrations.

In the report “Lesbian, gay and bisexual persons in ministry” there was a petition directed to general council that was hateful and aggressive.  General Council resolved that the United Church of Canada manual be amended by inserting after (b)IV a new section (b)V stating that (all) petitions and resolutions containing any hate or discriminatory language, either in the whereas section or in the motion itself shall be ruled out of order by all church courts. #lovewins
