Hello everybody, hope all is well. I don't know where to start, It's been a longg while... ok, after a decade of settling here in Hong kong as an asian expat, many things change but mostly in positive ways. yes, positive! let's keep that vibe rolling! :)

So, after working for years in construction firm here, I finally came to point to stop working, not yet sure if this is a break or I still have to continue working. The good thing is with those past years, I have learnt many things including financial learning. so here I am almost two years unemployed but still having some minimal earnings from stocks market and investing. Yes, I will explained further in my coming post.

My family have availed our permanent visas after seven years of stay. My kids will be in secondary school next year. we have travelled in different countries which I loved to share as well.

And now, after a year of pandemic, some top countries finally start seeing the light at the end of the tunnel. I believe the rest in the world will follows.

Times flies! yet here we are still trying or being relevant to each other. right? :) I'll take that as a Yes.

Moreover, I would love to share with you for now, our recent visit in Hong kong Disneyland. yes, it's open! unfortunately due to some restrictions, visitors are limited. online booking is a must before heading to the park!

Chinese New Year 2013. As we have long holiday vacation for this special season, we grab the opportunity to head to Macau and explore the place. An special administrative region of China (like Hong kong) and because it is formerly colonized by Portugal the city became more interesting as it gains more cultures and history.

There are many ways to reach the famous Asia's Las Vegas. By air, land and water but the easiest way to get there when you are from Hong kong is thru maritime water jet .

One hour ride is shortest and convenient way to reach Macau from Hong kong. Upon arrival in Macau, it is advisable to drop by to their tourism office which is located inside the terminal to have more information and maps. There are free rides from Cotai to Macau and vise versa if nobody is going to fetch you.

Hi, its been a year that I was busy doing some other things. Yes, after being a hands-on mom in Gulf, I started working with my profession again here in Hong kong. From place and culture adjustments, new school for my tot, hiring a nanny for my tot, Haiyan's wrath (yolanda, yes, we are affected) and our lovely church wedding all of these happens in a year! a stressful but delightful 2013!

I will definitely find time to share all the experienced and the ideas I have gain during my absence. see you soon!

Office Gift Wrapping Idea

Forgot to buy a gift wrap for a gift??? Here's a simple idea might help you while in the office.

Excel is my favorite worksheet at all time because its really powerful and with little creativity can be useful in many ways. you may open new sheet, fill all the cells with color or other shades you prefer. plays with the format preference, add a patterns then print it. you may come up with beautiful wrap within few minutes! you can maximize the print out by cutting the margins in all sides to create a ribbon, flower or other ornaments. I am thinking of flowers made from paper but I think the ribbon will be better.

Hope this will give you an idea. Less time and inexpensive which works for busy bee and mom like me.

Congee Saturday

It is my saturday off and it feels like a piece of heaven when I am having a two days off in a week. My alternate saturday off and sunday. Spending a quality time for a family is a must and my joy. Making it up to my little toddler satisfied my motherhood in times like this.

Going to the park and malls, attending mass, doing the groceries are one of our bonding moments. And I almost forgot one our favorite pass time is eating or dining out!

This reminds me of the local restaurant we found before with a variety of congees that suits our taste. Since we are still new here in yuen long, we unable to remember the name of the restaurant and the location. And just this morning we found it located near the Citimall! Well of course, we have had a sumptuous congee lunch that we enjoyed especially our little Carleen. This is just a satisfaction of my funny congee fever that made me blog what happen today. Plus I have also found and bought the bluetooth that I like to have convinient way of watching over my little girl on mobile when at work and outside. Nothing really.. :)

Hong kong Winter

I have been quite busy for long time that I could not find time to post any of our new adventures. Not even opening this blog for almost a month! Oh dear..

I wish I could tell them all to you. Anyway, This season I guess will be my favorite time of the year though I am having hard time to wake up early to get back to work.

The cold weather here in Hong kong will satisfy your longliness after a hot and humid summer. The temperature as per my record ranges from 8 deg and 15 deg. Hot pot food is almost everywhere and I really enjoy having cups of coffee in day time.

As public places like malls are always crowded during weekend and holidays, we prepare to go to the park where you will find space and freedom to move the way you want to especially for our toddler who loves biking in the park.

As this season will end means the much awaited Chinese New Year for the locals will soon take time. I hope I can share to you how it celebrated here. Hint for now, red envelope or lai see is everywhere. See u soon!

Fashion for Everyone

I remember seeing a posted quote around saying " A person's in fashion is the right person" So here is one of my new adventure. If you are not Mr. or Ms. brand conscious type, you will love buying fashion stuffs here. There are lots of stores where you can find a less expensive but quality wise fashion outfit. Knowing locals here as one of fashionable people in Asia, you can easily choose whatever cut or style that will suit your taste because of the excessive number of boutiques available almost everywhere.

At first, I always compare how expensive are goods here compare to middle east (which is of course a tax free country) but that was not applicable to all and that is when we are always heading to the malls. When we started exploring local stores around, my jaw drops realizing how can some good stuffs be so cheap here like cloths.

Then I remember before when I was in the Philippines, businessmen are going here to buy their business items. Rich and famous fly anytime to do their shopping thing in hong kong. Those "tiangge", night market and stalls, were selling imported items from Hong kong or Thailand. Mostly cloths items.

Now I understand why.

You will always find outside some individuals who are wearing a striking fashion outfits. They are not stars nor fashion icons but just plain individuals. And it's a normal scenery in this place because I think that is one of their market and passion. A fashion which is for everyone.

Snoopy's World in Shatin, Hong kong

For our toddler Carleen, everytime we are leaving the house for our usual family's day out during weekends or holidays to somewhere else, we always see to it that she will have her place to enjoy wherever we choose to go.

We went to Shatin last Saturday and we glad we found out this small theme park located at third floor of New Town Plaza Shopping Mall. Snoopy's World! A must see to those with kiddies and if you are within the vicinity. They have snoopy's playground, bus, adorable fence,mini water ride and more. The entrance is free. Your little one will also enjoy a twisted balloon of his choice from the entrance. But during peak hours or maybe depends on crowd, you have to take queue to have it.

You can reach there by taking MTR-East Railway, go down to shatin station and then take exit A going to New Town Plaza Shopping Mall. From there you will find signage directing to The Snoopy's World. Enjoy! :)

I have been busy for the past few weeks that is because we are very busy in disposing all our things in UAE due to our transfer here in Hong kong. Another new adventure for us! New culture, environments and foods. It is easier for us to adopt our new world here since lots of Chinese people resides in the Philippines and we have already "ideas" on their lifestyle and cultures.

Oasis at the Resort

A side trip we made after our brunch in Burj Al Arab. Another property owned by Jumeirah. The resort consists 3 hotels Mina A'Salam, Al Qars and Dar Al Masyaf. Malakiya Villas, Souk Madinat, theatre, Restaurants, boutiques and spa. We have been here many times but we can not get enough. We like to roam around, have occasional taste of fine dining from various restaurants, nightlife and souk at this place. And of course, the magnificient view of iconic tower Burj Al Arab.

This luxurios resort resembles a traditional arabian town. The architectural designs will give you thoughts of previous pictures of arabian living. Like the madinat souk. I have been to abra in Deira which is the oldest souk in Dubai, and it seems that the design here in Madinat Souk was adopted from the first said. But not the price. Apparently, items for sale here are more expensive compare to abra in Deira.

Nightlife here is live and fun. I remember we have watched some gigs and musical shows here after having dinner.

Another amusement place in Dubai which I think is a must go for everyone!

Looking up inside the hotel

I just saw this on my post as draft..oh dear, I forgot this to published. The date in the pictures was way back 2011 hahah! I think this is one of the last escapades we have before leaving United Arab Emirates. I think it is worth of sharing.

The Burj Al Arab which is located in Dubai, UAE and was known as one of luxurious and only "7 stars Hotel" in the world. The building's shape looks like a sail. An impressive structure inside and out.

We have the opportunity to get inside to dine for the post birthday celebration of my husband. The whole fine dining experienced was good. We have had a sumptuous brunch. The food was tasty and the staffs were all attentive. We have chosen the Far East Asian Restaurant named Junsui which totally suits our taste but there are some other restaurants inside to choose on.

We are longing to experience how it was inside in this famous hotel so, the easiest and less expensive way to have it is by booking for dining or you will stay for a night that will cost you a minimum of 5,000AED or Php 60,000 more or less whew! Or if you just like to roam around, you should know someone who is working there so that you can totally go inside for free. The interior design is beautiful and fascinating. Columns are in gold plated as you see in the pictures. All flowers displayed around are real! Designs are absolutely unique and in thoroughly details.

Dates along the way with my little girl

This coconut look a like tree usually bear fruits during summertime here in UAE is no other than Dates. It is a fruit from dates palm tree. A native tree from Northern Africa and Middle East. It is abundant during summer season here in gulf which usually falls from month of July to September.

You will find dates palm tree everywhere here in UAE. The government do not fail to maintain planting and taking good care of it as I have noticed. Here are some informative facts you would gladly know about Dates:

The date palm belongs to the family Palmae, genus Phoenix, species dactylifera.
Curently, there are more than 40 million palm trees in the UAE; 40 percent of which are in Al Ain. The are where the palm trees are grown is 30 percent of the total land allocated for fruit products in UAE.
Date Palm trees supply an average of two thirds of income of people living in the Sahara or Great Desert.

And for me, aside from it helps reducing the air pollutants and it help cools the temperature especially during this super hot season, we also find it more tolerable to get inside car when it is under the shade. So,we always prefer to look for a slot with shade of palm tree when parking outside :)

Shawarma for you

Eventually, I am starting to like this famous food which can be found everywhere here in UAE. You can avail it for only 4 to 5 AED or around Php 58.00 and for me, it is already a meal! Before we are just used to passed by when we saw sharwarma stands along the way, but now it has been our tradition to stop and buy some. I guess we are just starting to adopt some of the culture here in the emirates after 5 years!

Spicy and Regular Chicken Shawarma

We are starting to like it. The taste varies from where you have bought it. I loved beef shawarma with potato filling.

So, as we are still here for work, exploring and enjoying foods like this tasteful Shawarma which was originated in Turkey and one of the famous fast food here in gulf, It will surely become one of our memorable experience here in the future. Try having some! :)

Mom's Day Off (Happy Mother's Day!)

Precious moment with my little Carleen

Mother's Day is the day for celebrating motherhood. Every child is a blessing and being a mother, it's our obligation to raised them properly and of course everyday is a challenge.

Now that I'm on her shoes, I feel and experience how it was to be a mother from the time I gave birth. I appreciate more the love and struggles given to us by our Mother. Having a six siblings is a disaster I guess during her time. without nanny to help her in raising us, I felt so blessed for having her as our mom. I remember, I was in grade 6 old enough to manage my self but she still comb and fixes our hair together with my sisters before going to school. I can proudly say that we was raised properly because of what we are and what we have right now.

To all mothers out there I believe we are doing great! Risking our own life in giving birth is our first act of endless love to our child. And now, time to keep away from kitchen, laundry and other chores at home, time to celebrate it with our love ones.

Bishop Paul Hinder from babies room

We're not attending mass every Friday or Saturday, which is weekend here in UAE, but we are trying to attend mass during 2nd and 4th Friday of each month which is Tagalog mass. Last Friday April 27, 2012 we are lucky to attend Tagalog scheduled mass which was celebrated by Bishop Paul Hinder, Apostolic Vicar of Southern Arabia. The mass was in English and Tagalog. Feel blessed to attend mass like this which is seldom happen here in Al Ain, I guess. I Also remember he was the one who had officiated our confirmation in Dubai last 2008.

For Roman Catholic like us, it's an obligation to attend mass every Sunday. Mass is actually the greatest single hour of our week because we reconnect with God. We are "obliged" to attend Mass on Sundays in fulfillment of the 3rd Commandments: "Remember to keep Holy the Sabbath day." For the Jews, the sabbath was Saturday; Christians, however, transferred the sabbath to Sunday, the day of Jesus Christ’s resurrection from the dead. The Church tells us that we have an obligation to fulfill the Third Commandment by refraining from unnecessary work on Sunday and by participating in the Mass, our chief form of worship as Christians.

We are not active in attending mass every Sunday which is equivalent to Friday here in UAE and a Muslim country but, we are trying to be a good sheep to Him in everyday of our life. As a human, we constantly made mistakes and having sins but we are trying to avoid and correct it in every way. Everyday we Pray... I believe in this way, we are still maintaining healthy relationship with God.

In our 4 years of stay here in UAE, at last we were able to visit the famous Gold Souk here in Dubai. You will find large variety of jewelries of all types here and because of endless stores in the place, you will have hard time in choosing or bargaining the item you will have to buy.
Maybe you will ask, How does it feels to be surrounded by golds? or you might think of wearing and having lots of those? that's how I actually thought and feel when I was inside the souk.
I think if you were used to see it, it feels nothing. But for sure if your a first timer in this place you will amazed with all the glitters around!

Its a usual thing here in UAE, actually in every city or town has its own gold souk place. You will find them also in almost all malls around. The price is consider as reasonable because you can buy them by weight or per grams the plus making charge per gram. In other countries it is sold by piece. You should barter hard to get a good deal.

Bracelets

It is located within the vicinity Baniyas Road which is along the Dubai creek and Abra/Al Ras road. You can recognized it by seeing a wooden entrance which is named as Dubai City of Gold and endless windows of gold. The timing is in the afternoon until late in the evening.

Abra Boats

From there, you can board Abra, a traditional boat here in UAE made from wood to take you to the other side of the creek for only 1AED in each way. If you like to take a private boat to tour you around the creek area they will charged you for 120 AED with time limit. A new experience for us. This will take you to the other side of the creek which is known as Spice Souk. The place has traditional or old streets look like to me where you will find lots of bargains such as clothing, pashmina, traditional shoes, lanterns, toys and lot more. Don't forget to bargain each time you will buy a souvenir item from this place. Another delightful experienced for us which I also considered as fun adventure. :)

Fried Garlic Salmon

Here's my another easy recipe learned from a friend. Just love how easy it is done with right flavor.

Ingredients:

Salmon
Salt and pepper (spread on each side)
Cooking oil
Garlic (chopped)
Butter

Direction:

Fried the sliced salmons on a heated cooking oil in a pan. Do not over cooked.
When done, set aside.
Melt the enough butter in the new heated pan and fried the chopped garlic (I love toasted garlic for this)
Once the garlic turns to dark brown, pour it together the melted butter in the fried salmon. Best served with rice.

We were at the mall yesterday to have some groceries when I get hooked from this bright colors from one of the department store. Floral prints and bright colors are almost anywhere in the department stores reminds me that the big sun will stay for long here in UAE. Anyway, I love fashion though I not really into it. Yay! But, I appreciate those who have sense of it and love looking at them. Since its summer, I have notice that most striking colors are out in the counter. Would this means it's appropriate to have this kind of wardrobe during this season?

I have read that women fashionable clothes have attractive colors mixture and designers spend lot of time in creating exceptional attire. Mixing and matching colors are good way in creating your own fashion. Wearing it appropriately is a fashion, it helps you gain confidence and increase your standards. Here are some tips that may help you in selecting a perfect summer outfit:

• Flimsy and colorful dresses, bikinis, sandals and pump shoes are cool to wear during summer. Select outfits that matches your height and body structure, It would help if you try wearing clothes that are not skin tight and can make you feel relaxed.

• Check the quality of the product, avoid wearing outfits that are not of good quality and are not resistible for a longer time. Going for those with labels which are usually expensive but with proven quality is good. Hence, to some who are having budget constraint, waiting for promotions may help.

• Usually designer clothes in the stores are very expensive, you can get your outfit stitched in this way you can get a dress with perfect fitting and also can save some amount of money.

• Cotton and light cloths are cooler and more comfortable to wear during hot season, this is due to the fabric quality. Aside from its softness, cotton absorbs and releases perspiration quickly, giving it breathability.

Seeing your precious little one enjoying the occasional party like this is priceless. That is why when we got invitations, even if it'll take hours to travel we are absolutely happy to be a guests! My two and half years old Carleen have actually her first "happy b-day song" after we have attended two consecutive birthday parties. Babies and toddlers here in UAE are usually found at home together with their mom or nannies. When couples are both working then your child will be most likely enrolled in nursery schools. Although others still opted to hire a nanny. Lucky if your child have siblings, relatives or neighbors to play with. :)
