With the recent state of the U.S economy, it’s no wonder why even big conglomerates and companies are cutting down employees, halting their business and some even shutting down for good. For those really big debtors out there, who are thinking of filing a bankruptcy, it may be best to consult bankruptcy lawyers before pressing on. Ask them whether insolvency or bankruptcy you face, but be careful to find good ones. Even I myself don’t understand bankruptcies that well—I’m no millionaire but it sure serves to know things like this well. I’m curious about these kinds of things as well. Have you ever heard of anyone declaring bankruptcy? I bet a lawyer or accountant from church can explain to me the basics.

I got curious about this when I saw that Kodak declared Chapter 11 Bankruptcy the other day. I had no background on what a chapter 11 bankruptcy was, but it certainly tickled my inquisitive side. Even the property tycoon of Ireland declared bankruptcy with a €2.9 billion debt to Anglo Irish Bank. That’s a lot of zeros! Just so I can differentiate between the Philippine and U.S.A. bankruptcy styles.

My husband is one of the forerunners of "TRUE LOVE WAITS", a concert/symposium done every February in celebration of Valentine's Day. This event was created to create an awareness among the young people with regards to knowing the real essence of love. This year's event is special since it's the 10th year of bringing the advocacy to the young people. Venue will be at the capitol grounds of the city which can cater as much as three thousand people. My son who is the lead guitarist of our church junior band is so excited that as early as now he bought a new guitar rig and strap. I hope and pray that our request to partner with the Department of Education for the campus symposium would be approved. In this way, we can maximize our audience and minimize our expenses.

We were looking for fridges to replace our old one which was slightly damaged after the flash flood that hit our place. The frugal me wanted to keep it since it is still working but my hubby told me that we should replace everything to erase the trace of " Typhoon Sendong". What? Is he joking?

After Typhoon Sendong hit our city... many got sick. Three of our dearest friends shared the same room since all the hospitals were already full occupied. Thank God one survived the fatal Leptispirosis Disease.

Cosmetics and Me

The world has had its fair share of ups and downs when it comes to cosmetics and skin products. I’ve seen skin care regimen evolve from its humble state during my teens to the continuously growing innovations of today. But frankly, I am always hesitant to try new products because of my particularly sensitive skin. That is also why I don’t wear makeup very often. But now that I’m getting farther and farther away from my heyday, I really opt to try new things like the best eye cream and anti wrinkle cream. It’s getting rather popular in the market today and a lot of my friends have been very supportive of me getting it.

It’s not easy being unable to buy the skin regimen products I want all the time. I’ve been on one too many trips to the dermatologist because of my skin. There was even a time when I was in high school, I wasn’t able to attend our Graduation Ball because I was rushed to the hospital because my face swelled up and at the height of it all, I couldn’t help but feel disappointed. I’ve looked forward to that day for months and it all went out the window because I wasn’t careful enough. After sulking for quite some time, I was able to move on but carried the painful memory with me. It was something that allowed me to be more vigilant in wearing makeup and other skin care products. I read labels and researched them to avoid repetition of that dreadful experience. You could only imagine what I went through that day—embarrassment, pain and much apprehension. But I learned a very valuable lesson after that so I guess it wasn’t all that bad.

Even my daughter inherited having sensitive skin, so we’re not so eager on buying her beauty products. She’s eleven now and for some people, that may be a good age to start using cosmetics and other skin treatments. But I approach that thought with much trepidation. But even when given the earlier traumatizing events of my life, I am starting to change my mind (for the better) regarding the recent advancements they’ve reached with the rapidly changing technology of skin care products. But perhaps not yet for my daughter. I can’t bear see her in that state, so vulnerable and so aggrieved. Probably when she’s old enough (say around 15—for prom), then maybe then. We’ll be really careful to test the products as to avoid any unwanted incidents (and dramatic episodes) as much as possible.

What we have worked for the past 16 years were gone in a matter of 20 minutes . The flash flood that hit our place ravaged and damaged everything we had. From appliances, furniture, books, clothes, bed and kitchen utensils. Above is just one part of our house where everything scuttled down . Our computer cabinet which stood beside the computer table is nowhere to be found. It was soak to the water and mud together with mom's paintings, picture frames and DVD rack.

It's exactly a month today after that dreadful typhoon but to be honest... I haven't moved on.

Do you know a program that can restore files from DSLR Micro -SD? I need to restore the pictures on my 8-gig memory card . Pictures during our Family Christmas Party, Releief goods distribution for Typhoon Sendong are there. This time I need to have computer workstations in the office... where each department will have it's own computer . This way my PC will be spared by viruses of co-workers' USB. Any suggestion? Yamaha, Honda, Suzuki or Kawasaki?

Now that our temporary shelter after the flash flood is too far from our office and kid's school, my hubby is planning to buy a motorbike. We have been looking around for Yamaha, Honda, Suzuki and Kawasaki Display stores but until now we can not decide which model to buy. My hubby wanted the latest model of Suzuki ( The Raider) and the Sniper of Yamaha but I objected because both are too expensive at P95,000.00. We lost almost everything after the flood and I guess it's not practical to spend a big amount of money just for a motorbike. We still have to buy desktop computer, beds, sala set and a lot more. Our house needs renovation too! So I opted for a lower version, it's not only cheaper but has lots of freebies like HJC IS-Max BT helmet, jacket and tools.

What do you think of my idea?

Cagayan de Oro City after Typhoon Sendong

“Government should not stop at merely giving relief goods. It is their responsibility to give the flood victims a chance to rehabilitate their lives and start over again”. These were the words I’ve heard during a forum sponsored by the Kagay-an Evangelical Disaster Relief Network (KEDRN). As an NGO and private institution, KEDRN has been helping the flood victims the day after December 17, 2011. As a relief volunteer myself, I have witnessed the quick response and organized relief operation of this group. Operation Blessings , CBN Asia and the Philippine Relief and Disaster and Development Services are the KEDRN’s partners in providing blankets, mats, mosquito nets., household wares , food and drinkable waters for the flood victims since day 1 until today. A temporary relocation area was given by the city government to KEDRN to facilitate and build temporary shelters for the 500 plus families affected by this tragedy. The group will stop from there. KEDRN and its willing partners envisioned and committed to build permanent shelters for these victims so that they could be assured of a safe place to live in.

Other groups including some NGO’s are offering assistance to these flood victims and it really touched my heart. They even would not want any media exposure and gave according to their convictions. Resources are pouring in and will be pouring soon as we unite to commit to this noble cause in helping our city get back to its feet. How I wish that some business establishment will reach out too and create a business funding and credit institution with credit card factoring as part of the rehabilitation of these unfortunate families so they could again go back to their normal lives. We are all very optimistic that this endeavor will greatly affect the lives of our fellow Cagay-anons. The act may not be published in the news or T.V. but the legacy will remain. Yes, a calamity hit us, Typhoon Sendong destroyed a large part of our city…but we will all rise up again and see the dawning of a new Cagayan de Oro.

Building our own small abode after the flood

Almost 10,000 families were displaced after the flash floods that struck our City. Unfortunately we are one of them. We are thankful that my mother-in-law's house is big enough to accommodate our family as well as my two brother's family.

Now, we are looking for furnished apartments just like that of vacation rentals paris . With our appliances and furniture damaged by the flood, we needed a shelter with id fully furnished. As of now me and my hubby are busy looking at the internet for possible place to stay. Unluckily houses for rent advertised online where already occupied. According to a real estate broker, the day after the flood, people were crowded their office looking for house vacancy. Some even paid one year in advance just to take the houses.

I happened to visit the site for vacation rentals paris and was motivated to start building our own little house since house rentals surged up high after the flood.

The King's Speech

I recently watched the movie the King’s Speech and was really overwhelmed by it. It made me think of the people with speech impediments. In my country, there aren’t as many because we’re naturally bold and very verbal. But for those few who have this kind of problem, at least speech therapists are made available today through quite a number of academic institutions that offer learning for this field (such as the University of The Philippines Manila). Although it isn’t that popular here, it is easy to conclude that Speech-Language Pathologist Jobs are quite high paying, considering the amount of time and skills they need to determine the source and cure of the problem.

We hired a Pink Jeep to carry the relief goods we distributed to various affected areas in Cagayan de Oro. I was so busy I was not able to get a good shot of the pink jeep. Our hearts melted as we saw people so happy having those mats and blankets. Thank you Operation Blessings for the immediately response .

CDO Flash Flood Retrieval Operation

You probably heard abut the catastrophe that hit Cagayan de oro City. Unfortunately, I am one of the 15,000.00 families affected. Our place was badly hit among other areas. It’s heart breaking to see our house damaged by the flash flood yesterday as we cleaned it but we can not do anything but retrieve some things that can still be of use like our steel beds and chairs, bikes and riding helmets , tables and few clothes. My heart melt seeing my daughter searching through the mud and finally got her favorite shoes. Really words are not enough to express what we felt right now but one thing for sure God is good that we are alive. As of today, there are 1150 dead bodies and more than 5,000 injured.
