Never neglect the place of hobbies in a resume

One of the most neglected parts of a resume is “Hobbies” it is usually located before the reference. Experience and observation have shown that graduates don’t understand what a hobby is or that they don’t know how to apply it in their resume or curriculum vitae.

Like other section in a resume, hobby has a crucial part as it helps to create a spider web link to one of the sections in a resume most specially the skills and ability section.
Hobby section deserves the same time devoted when writing other section. Many resume as failed because of this section. The question is how?

1. Your hobby above other things, tell your recruiter more about your social life.
2. What you do when you’re not working
3. How you manage your time
4. How you use your skills and ability in an informal settings
5. Your availability for team work.

With this 5 point, you can see a gap in your resume when you neglect the place of hobby.
No recruiters would want to employ a robot as employee. Hobby gives your recruiter a clearer picture of you. One of the benefit of hobby in a resume is that is can create an atmosphere for discussion with your recruiters during the job interview.
Now that you know the important of hobby, you should be careful not to lie or list all the hobbies you can think of. Three to four is enough. You might want to ask why.

If you list all the hobbies you can think about, then your recruiter might be force to think that you might never have time to do any formal work outside the work environment.
So what are you waiting for, start editing your resume if you have one already.
And remember, except you are writing a general resume (fresh graduate), try to tailor your hobby to match your job specification and not just that, make sure there is a linking or connection with your skills and ability or other section in the resume.
Example
If you write internet research as one of your skills then there should be reading or writing in your hobby... there is a link between internet research and writing/reading. This is just a sample. There can be other things which can link each other in a resume apart from the example above and below.

For fresh graduate...

Are you a fresh graduate with little or no experience in working in that dream job of yours?
Well don’t think further, you can get that job. But how?
When you see a job opening advert but it is not in anyway related to your field of study and you think the job is not meant for you. The truth is, you can still apply. It is not a limitation but an invitation to sell yourself to the prospective employer.
Another way fresh graduate limit themselves is when they see a job opening advert with the requirement of 3-5 year experience. Since they are still fresh from the university, the job is not meant for them. Like i said earlier, it is an invitation and not a limitation. It all depends on packaging.
I remember when i was still serving (NYSC), i sent my resume to different organisations through a job website and i have no experience that was required from them. The next day, i got a message from one of them to come for job interview
Two days after i got the first job interview message, another job interview was sent to me. In one week, i got five job interviews. In did not move out of my room to look for job. All i did was to make use of information resources in the World Wide Web. And did you know i did not go for any of the interviews?

Well i was not chanced neither in a rush.
But how did i manage to get such job interviews so fast without any experience?
It was all simply packaging embedded in my resume.
To get that dream job of yours, you must know how to write a resume. Not the copy and paste type of resume. I have seen many graduates using the same old format to write a resume. If you don’t know the old format, then wait for my next article on “how a fresh graduate should to write a resume” even on the web i seen have articles that teaches how to write a resume but they don't teach this things on the individual perspective. That is, the content of a resume should be in uniformity with the qualities of the writer/owner...
I know this article will be incomplete without the next article but if you know how to write a fresh graduate/entry level resume already, then sit down and repackage your resume. Look at your propspective organisation's goal, value and objectives, what do they produce or what kind of service do they render. What category of people do the employ, what is their history, why are they seeking for a new work force in this section/department etc. This are some of the questions that if answered can help you formulate an attractive resume. In this present generation, resume is no longer about you but also about your prospective organisation.

How Nigeria tackled the much dreaded Ebola.

Authors of a paper published October 9 in Eurosurveillance attribute Nigeria's success in "avoiding a far worse scenario" to its "quick and forceful" response. The authors point to three key elements in the country's attack:

Fast and thorough tracing of all potential contacts
Ongoing monitoring of all of these contacts
Rapid isolation of potentially infectious contacts.

Race to prevent spread
Nigeria's index patient had been caring for a family member in Liberia who died from Ebola on July 8. Despite having been hospitalized in the Liberian capital Monrovia with fever and Ebola symptoms on July 17, he left medical care (against advice) and three days later took a commercial flight to Nigeria via Togo. After landing he collapsed at the Lagos airport and was taken to the hospital.
There it took three days before an Ebola diagnosis was made. The patient said he had no known exposure to Ebola, so he was first thought to have malaria, which is common and can have similar symptoms including fever, vomiting and headache. After malaria treatment failed to improve the patient's symptoms, however, medical staff began to consider Ebola, especially given his recent travel history. He was moved to isolation while test results confirmed the virus.
From this single individual, who died from the disease July 25, infectious disease experts generated a list of 898 contacts. Why so many? In addition to having become ill in a public place, the patient also infected an individual who then flew to and back from another Nigerian city, Port Harcourt, in late July while sick. That individual passed the infection to three other people, including a health care worker who died on August 22—but not before generating 526 more contacts. The index patient's primary and secondary contacts had only added up to 351.

The fact that two individuals were able to generate so many contacts shows just how vigilant authorities must be in tracking every last potential exposure. But the vigilance paid off. No new cases have been diagnosed in more than a month, and October 1 marked the date at which all of Nigeria’s 898 contacts passed the 21-day incubation period during which Ebola symptoms can present themselves.

The arrival location of the index patient was a prime place to cause a widespread outbreak. Lagos is Africa's largest city, with a population of 21 million. It is a major hub for travel and business. "A dense population and overburdened infrastructure create an environment where diseases can be easily transmitted and transmission sustained," wrote the authors of a paper for the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's (CDC) Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report (MMWR). As such, "A rapid response using all available public health assets was the highest priority."
But, says Folorunso Oludayo Fasina, a senior lecturer at the University of Pretoria in South Africa, co-author of the Eurosurveillance paper and a native Nigerian, it was actually lucky that the index patient in Nigeria fell ill at the airport. "Had the index case gotten the opportunity to contact persons in Lagos or Calabar—[another Nigerian city] where he was to deliver a lecture—it may have been a complete disaster."
Although it took three days to diagnose Ebola (a period during which nine health care workers were infected with the disease), once the diagnosis was confirmed health authorities swung into action. The Federal Ministry of Health worked with the CDC’s Nigerian office to declare an Ebola emergency. On July 23—the very same day the patient was diagnosed—they created an Incident Management Center (which morphed into the Emergency Operations Center) and kicked into action an Incident Management System to coordinate responses. Such a centralized and coordinated system "is largely credited with helping contain the Nigerian outbreak early," the MMWR authors wrote.
It wasn't the Emergency Operations Center's first time tackling a highly infectious disease. Two years ago, after a global call from WHO, Nigeria redoubled its efforts to eradicate polio, another infectious virus, within its borders. The center has played a large role in working toward that goal, improving response times and preparedness along the way, the authors of the MMWR paper wrote.
The key takeaways are: coordinate, track and monitor. "The Nigerian experience offers a critically important lesson to countries in the region not yet affected by the [Ebola] epidemic as well as to countries in other regions of the world," the Eurosurveillance authors noted. "No country is immune to the risk…[but] rapid case identification and forceful interventions can stop transmission."

INSUFFICIENCY OF #19,800 AS MONTHLY ALLOWANCE FOR CORP MEMBERS.

VIEWPOINT

In an attempt to give the above issue raised a critical coloration, I must start by saying that the begging question of whether the monthly allowance of 19,800 naira for corps members be increased cannot be over-emphasized. The meat of my argument in support of same is in three-fold.
In the first place, it goes without saying that present day realities and pragmatism reveals that there is more finance required for the personal upkeep of corps members. As such, we need not dilly-dally over the fact that the present day economic realities of the country makes it practically impossible for a corps member to go about is activities and upkeep for the month with just such a stipend as #19,800. In this light, the Government should give it a serious rethink.
In another breath, of a truth, motivation plays a vital role in any form of human endeavor or venture. The NYSC scheme is not an exception to this. The corps members should always be financially motivated aside the allowance which, as it even stands seems inadequate. The gist of my argument is this- Corps Members should have other means of cash inflow in which the government will be responsible for same. Though, some may argue on the contrary advancing the argument that Corps Members get some money from their places of primary assignment which helps to consolidate the allowance received from federal government. Well, such an argument is a different kettle of fish. As such, it is crystal clear that some of this private firms seek the services of these corps members all with the apocryphal motive to have them as cheap labour.

In the third place, I pray for an upward review of the allowance given to corps members by the Federal Government on the strength saving habit could be encouraged among corps members as they can start up something as entrepreneurs after their service year. When such upward review is effected, corps members will find it easy to raise capital. Though some may argue that saving habit can be encouraged whether or not the allowance is increased. But, I must ask such persons how realistically possible is it to safe any dine out of #19,800 which is insufficient in the first place? The answer seems to be no. So, an upward review of the allowance will go a long way in encouraging saving habits among corps members.
To this end, I respectfully recommend an upward review of the corps members monthly allowance from #19,800 to #40,000 In conclusion, I am of the opinion that the purpose of Government is to cater for the welfare of its citizenry. In this light, the Government should put its hands of deck to savage the issues of the country as it affects corps members.

Handy Guide to NYSC Orientation Camp

How did you feel when you where called that the most anticipated call up letter is out?

Yeah you where excited, thrilled and at the same time fearful. Yes you where fearful hoping that you will not be posted to places you have prayed and fasted for. Well for some it is not. I mean for those who have gone extra length in making sure they are at the right place.

Ok now that you have your call up letter, and you have seen the state you are posted to. Congratulations because many wish to be in your shoe. I know the next thing you want to do is to ask people about the location of the state orientation camp, not only that, you will even seek for others in the same posting state. It’s normal. But be calm and read on. Depending on your school, if you should look around you will notice people selling things you need in camp.

Advice number 1

Don’t buy anything from them if you wish to free yourself from load when going to camp. Everything you need, i mean everything is sold in camp market(mami market)

Now as for the camp location, the address is written on your call up letter and if you think it’s not clear visit NYSC website for camp addresses

Advice number 2

Don’t take any contraband stuff with you, the officials will seize. Like i said earlier be light when coming to camp
Take only cloths you will put on Sunday. Every day you will only be allowed to put on white top and short except on Sunday and on Sunday by 4pm you will have to return to your white
Buy some few pairs of white tops and shorts. They will give you there after you complete your registrations. But try buy sha because of size!!!
You need a shoe, they will give you there also but you need to have extra because of stain (depending on the camp). I bought a white rubber shoe was every easy to wash
Remember i said everything you ever will need is sold in mami market.

Advice number 3.. (Things you must not forget to bring along with you to camp)

Call up letter (original and few photocopies)
Statement of result (original)
Certificate of origin (optional)
Birth certificates(optional)
Passport (30 copies should be enough).
School id card (origin and photocopies)

Advice number 4 (things you will need to survive in camp)

Stationeries
Slippers
Dettol
Mosquito net
Toiletries
Waist pouch/bag(mobile savings bank)
Rechargeable lamp
Warmer/small cooler for food except you intend eating always at mami
Bucket
Drugs
Cash ( we will talk about this later)
Bed sheet
Padlocks for your bags
Many others not mentioned

Remember you can get all this things in mami market so save yourselves the stress of too much loads

IN CAMP:

When you get to the main gate, you will be checked thoroughly by camp officials. After the checking, ask them where to go. (Always ask questions). Don’t form i to know in camp else you miss your way.

On your entrance into the orientation camp, you will meet some people with tags helping Corpers to take their bags to a save place. These are the NCCF brethren (To know more about NCCF). Let them help you with your bags or carry it alone and follow them to the fellowship centre. They have a pattern of arranging bags for new Corp member until they have secured a place to stay.

Advice number 5

Do not wait after some days to go to orientation camp after the opening day

Those who go camp early don’t struggle for registration

Registration has different stages so ask questions (from Corp member who are through or the officials attending to you)

You will meet people so try and mingle but be watchful

When your bags are safe with NCCF or other means you have use to safe guide it, then proceed to registration ground. Some camp gives bed even before your registration while some don’t until you’re through with registration. Ask questions. If they give bed, then go and get a bed and seek for hostel that is comfortable to you. If you have secure a place for your bed, try and tidy the bunk with your mosquito net or other things so that others coming will know the place is taken.

Advice number 6

Until you are through with registration, still leave your bag with NCCF or if you think your bags will be safe in your new bunk, then move it there.
Remember to padlock your bags and carry your waist pouch with you always until the last day in camp.
Depending on the camp, there are little children that steal. They moving around looking for whom to devour(be careful)
After registration is over, these are the few things you must know.
You eat three times a day (depending on the camp you might not like the food)
Many things take away money from you. Such as charging of phones, recharge cards, washing of cloths, getting hot water, junks, books, friends etc)
They wake you up as early as 4am
If you know you don’t have body odour, just brush your teeth, wear your whites and go down to the parade ground. They will give you time to refreshing up after morning drills
After getting a place to lie, and you have been giving your Corp member uniform, don’t rush for any other registration. Until the last person register, registration will not close.
Meet people, make friends
Worship at NCCF. Its not a church, it is a place where believer from different denomination come together to worship God in the name of Jesus.
Follow camp rule and you will be free from trouble
Depending on the camp, some don’t have good toilets and bath room (manage it)
Join a group in camp, there is an added advantage (i won’t reveal the advantage to prevent flooding the groups in camp)
Take enough money with you... “5k+camp food”, “10k+camp food and junks”, “15k+camp food+junks+photographs and others”, “20k+ camp food+junks+photographs and others”,“30k+camp food(optional), mami food, books, photographs etc
19800 Allawee and other token will be given to you on camp after some days.
have fun in camp
Pray for grace and mercy in camp. Camp life is one experience you might never forget in a hurry.

Things that might likely happen to you in camp that you wont like.

early morning drilling
sitting and standing under the hot sun
endurance trek
platoon activities
inability to have quiet time
etc.

History of Nigeria Christian Corpers' Fellowship (NCCF)

In the early days of 1930’s there lived a British missionary, specifically a Scottish by name PA. S. G ELTON who resided in ilesa, Osun State(i.e. south western part of Nigeria). He gave prophecy that a time will come when the Federal Government of Nigeria will pay her youths to preach the gospel of our lord Jesus Christ to the nooks and crannies of the nation. This prophecy tarried for some time and look like it will not come to pass until between 1967 and 1970, when (Nigeria was hit with civil war) popularly known as Biafra war.

However in 1973, during the regime of general Yakubu Gowon, in a bid to build one united Nigeria he established a scheme known as the NYSC (National Youth Service Corp), this scheme demands that young Nigerian graduates be posted to states other than their state of origin to serve their fatherland in other to foster unity.

NYSC is built on three R keys:

Rehabilitation
Reconstruction
Reconciliation

During the orientation camp program, Christian graduates met and fellowship with one another. They then went back to their various states and share their experience of which to their surprise happens to be the same.

DIVINE PROVIDENCE

In 1983 NCCF came into existence. In NCCF we call ourselves “Jesus Corpers” and we have a slogan which is: Jesus Corpers will never die or NCCF – one big family NCCF have her national headquarter in Jos, plateau state. We are a three in one body;

Fellowship (where Christ and not church is preached)
Corporate body (meaning we are registered with the corporate affairs commission, and as a corporate body NCCF can sue and can be sued but we thank God for since then NCCF has not sue or been sued)
One big family
Rural rugged evangelism

In NCCF, we generate our funds through four means

Tithes
Offerings
Freewill donation
Capitation

Capitation is not your first fruit but one out of your 12 month allowances payable while you are still serving. It can be paid in instalment.

NCCF family house is a home away from home.. they provide accommodation to corpers who want to stay with them... if you want to know more about NCCF, then visit the family house.
NCCF is present in very state in Nigeria, and each state has a zone and sub zone.
