How to Purchase Firearms

SWVA Arms sells firearms only in accordance with Federal, State, and Local firearm laws.

To Purchase Firearms Online:

You must be 18 or older to purchase long guns and 21 or older to purchase hand guns. Check your local & state laws.

Federal firearms laws prevents SWVA Arms from shipping firearms directly to individuals without a valid Federal Firearms License (FFL), however we can ship them to a local FFL Holder near you.

In order to purchase your firearm and have us ship it, you must complete the following steps listed below before we can process your order and ensure a trouble free transaction:

Verify that the firearm you wish to purchase from SWVA Arms meets the laws of your State, City, or County.

Add your firearm(s) to your cart and continue through the Checkout process. Note: Firearms are shipped by Flat Rate Shipping. Long guns are shipped by UPS Ground, or you can select 2nd Day Shipping for an increased charge. Handguns are automatically shipped 2nd Day.

You must choose an FFL Holder that we will be shipping your firearm to. Use our “Find an FFL Dealer Near Me” link under our “Help & Information” section to assist you in identifying an FFL holder near you that will accept the transfer of your firearm. This can be your local Gun Shop, Pawn Shop, Gun Range or any other location that holds a current FFL and will help with your transaction.

If you are unable to locate an FFL holder through our database, but know of one that will process your transaction, please have them e-mail or fax us a copy of their FFL:

SWVA Arms Fax: 757-216-0148

E-Mail forms to: contact@swva-arms.com

Contact your FFL and let them you would like to transfer a firearm from SWVA Arms. This transaction is solely between you and the FFL holder.

Once your FFL holder receives your firearm, you will need to pick it up.

Upon arrival at your FFL, inspect your firearm to make certain that everything is acceptable before filling out the necessary paperwork.

Once the transfer of the firearm is complete, the manufacturer's warranty is then in effect and from that point on any complications with the firearm will need to be handled by the manufacturer.

**Failure to read and complete all the necessary steps above could result in the delay of receiving your firearm(s).**

NOTE: Ammunition and Firearms must be purchased separately, in two separate orders. Firearm orders generally take 5-7 days to process.

Unlike most other semi-automatic pistols, the slide rides inside the frame rails rather than outside. This provides a very tight slide-to-frame fit, very good barrel lock-up and contributes to good accuracy. It is also one of the few production semi-automatic pistols available in the 10mm Auto.

The Knife:

It has a few spellings, most common are kukri and khukuri, but basically it’s a mid-length curved knife comprising a distinctive Cho (notch) that is the national knife of Nepal. This shape is believed to have existed 2500 years ago; the Kopis used by the Greeks is the probable source of its design. In our modern times the kukri really came to note outside Nepal with the Nepal War in 1814-15 after the formation of British Gurkha Army. It was carried in a wood sheath covered in leather, most having a wooden grip or horn and traditionally having two small knives (one small knife for chores and the other left unsharpened for flint striking and to knock burrs from the main blade), it is one of the most famous and feared knives of the world.

The Cho:

The most appealing and distinctive part of the kukri is the notch or Cho cut into the blade directly in front of the grip near its base. Its unique shape and utility objectives have been the source of much debate.

Practicality- the notch works as a blood stop to prevent blood or fluid from going towards the handle so that a good grip can be maintained. Additionally it was to stop the sharpener when in use from reaching the handle.

Religiously- it signifies the Hindu fertility symbol (OM) and represents the sacred cows hoof.

Fiction- it is also believed to have been developed as a device for catching and neutralizing an enemy blade in close combat. However, this is more myth than reality. When things got really rugged it is said the notch was used as a can opener or rest curvature for index finger of the using hand while slicing, but these have not been proven true either.

What is true is that all traditional kukri’s carry this notch. You can buy original kukri's from the arsenal of the Royal Nepalese Army as well as find modern day versions and machetes online at AtlantaCutlery.com.

Gurkha's at kit inspection showing kukris

Beyond the Knife:

The kukri is also much more than just a knife or a weapon because of its religious values it carries and beliefs it has created. The shape of the blade itself represents the trinity symbols of Brahma, Vishnu and Shiva, the three most famous and influential Hindu Gods.

It is also worshipped on different occasions and festivals mainly in Dashain, where it is put into action beheading animals as offerings to the Durga goddess (Goddess who slaughtered devils and evil).

Similarly in Biswakarma Puja, devotees worship it along with other iron and steel tools to pay their respect and loyalty. Why during sacrificial ceremonies? There is a belief in Nepalese society that it must taste blood to become a kukri. This sacrificial tradition follows in the Gurkha Army where each year animals are sacrificed to foresee good fortune and blessings to the regiments and its soldiers.

The faith and belief that the kukri has produced are remarkable and interesting. A kukri when kept at home would bring fortune, prosperity and kill evil spirits. It is believed to have spiritual power to scare off demons, evils and nightmares and thus kept under the pillow of a man or even a child who suffers from a sleeping disorder.

Similarly in Mongolian ethnic groups a man would have his kukri cremated along with him in a belief that the kukri would defeat Satan so that the departed soul could go to heaven and rest in peace.

A man with a khukuri represents a man of honor, dignity, courage and loyalty who would kill and get killed for the right cause. Padma Shamsher Jung Bahadur Rana, former Prime Minister of Nepal stated it was the national as well as religious weapon of the Gurkha, so it should be carried while awake and placed under the pillow when retired.

Finally, the oldest kukri known to exist is the one on display at the National Museum in Kathmandu which belonged to Drabya Shah, the King of Gorkha in 1627 AD. It is, however, certain that the origins of the knife stretch further back, perhaps 2500 years.

Legendary stories:

One British troop found itself surrounded by Gurkhas. As the siege continued the casualties mounted, the supply lines were cut and ammunition ran out. The British hoisted the white flag and watched a group of Gurkhas step forward to receive the surrender, their large kukri knives strapped proudly to their hips.

When the Gurkhas reached speaking range the Gurkha leader announced that their surrender would be fine, but if the British really wanted to continue fighting, they had some excess ammunition they would be happy to loan them so that the battle might continue! Of course the Tommies declined. They were treated well, but it was this behavior that earned the Gurkhas the most notoriety.

This type of fierceness to battle and win against all odds and honor your foe was well respected by the British. It did not take long before the British saw these tough as nails, Indo-Mongol descendants as better allies and they began to hire them as mercenaries fighting alongside their own troops.

Workers at the University of Minnesota Hospital in Minneapolis were treated to a lunchtime show when a local United Parcel Service driver was chased around a FedEx truck by a wild turkey. Scrub-clad workers in the hospital's cafeteria captured the incident on December 30 and uploaded the video to YouTube the next day.

One of the most popular activities in eastern Tennessee is hunting. Why not? There are a number of interesting game animals to stalk in the Smoky Mountains, some native and some not, but all great for sport. Get a license from the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency http://www.tn.gov/twra/ that is good from February to March of the next year. Depending on what you are planning on hunting and for how long, you can choose from a number of different licenses appropriate for your trip. If you are planning on bringing children or seniors with you, look out for discounted licenses for their age groups. Keep in mind that the most specific license you can buy for your hunt will save you money, but if you are planning to hunt multiple species or are planning to both fish and hunt, get a more general license.

Some of the most popular game animals include the wild turkey, wild hogs, black bears, and deer.

One of the more tricky animals to capture is the eastern wild turkey, living in some small groups in eastern Tennessee?s wilderness. Endangered at one point, the turkey has made a comeback in Tennessee, although they are difficult to catch and extremely shy. They are smaller than most turkeys, as they rarely reach 20 pounds, it is the interbreeding of feral and eastern turkeys that create the larger birds. Calling these birds takes a special talent, which contributes to the small number of them that are taken in each season. Consider getting a guide to help you. The season for turkeys typically lasts from the last day of March to mid-May, and bag limits are not to exceed one bearded turkey per day and 4 per season.

Wild hogs are one of the biggest species invaders for the Smoky Mountain region. Transported from Europe in 1912 to populate a private game preserve, some of the boar escaped and made it to the National Park by the late 1940s. Some interbreeding between the wild boar and domestic pigs in the area created hybrid wild hogs, which are mainly what roam the park today. They have most of the features of the wild hog, including black hair, long legs and tusks. A white blaze on their face indicates the hybridization clearly. Most weigh about 125 pounds and are typically around three and a half feet long. They have a well-developed set of canine teeth, poor eyesight and a keen sense of smell and hearing. They are typically found in the western two-thirds of the park, but they move to higher elevations during the spring and summer in search of cooler temperatures. There are only a few hundred of these hogs left in the park, but because they are an exotic animal detrimental to the health of the park, they are popular for hunting.

Black bears are possible game animals in the park, although their harvest is fairly limited. No one may kill more than one per calendar year. Cubs or female bears with cubs may not ever be killed, and a cub is any bear weighing less than 75 pounds. Check carefully about restrictions in the county you plan to hunt in, as some will allow only archery for bears while others have different dates for their season. Dogs are prohibited in some counties and allowed in others, as well.

Deer are also a fairly popular game animal in Tennessee. Legally, they must have antlers a minimum of three inches in length on buck-only or antlered-only hunts. Antlerless bag limits are higher than those Albino deer are not to be killed. Tennessee is divided into three sections for deer hunting: Unit A, B and L. Hunters can bag no more than three per season, except for in Unit B, where no more than two can be taken. No more than one antlered deer can be taken per day, as well. The dates and lengths of the seasons change, depending on what weapon you are planning on using and whether or not children will be present. Do some research and plan where you will hunt and what you will use, bag limits can change accordingly.

The Smoky Mountains are a great place for a hunting trip because of their lengthy game seasons and different types of prey. Consider renting one of our Gatlinburg cabins with your friends or family ; you can cook up what you hunted right there!

Few American holidays have a closer relationship to a particular firearm than Thanksgiving. Next to turkeys, Pilgrims and Indians the tried-and-true blunderbuss is one of the celebration’s most recognizable symbols. But the unmistakable gun was more than just a tool used to put meat on the table. The blunderbuss — Dutch for “thunder pipe” — was also a merciless weapon favored by pirates, cavalries and colonial militias. Check out the following videos to brush up on some of the finer points of the blunderbuss and, of course, watch a few people drop the hammer on the gun.

AUSTIN – A South Texas man has pled guilty to nine charges of possession of oversized red drum, one charge of no saltwater fishing license, and one charge of exceeding the possession limit for red drum.

The investigation leading to the filing of charges against 30-year-old Luis Castro began with a Facebook post showing a man holding a large red drum with eight other oversize drum on display in the bed of a pickup truck. (The bag limit for redfish is three per day, and they must be between 20 and 28 inches. Only one redfish longer than that can be kept, and only with a properly completed redfish tag attached to it.)

On Nov. 1, game wardens in Cameron County were contacted about the Facebook picture, which had originally been placed on line by Castro’s brother. Accompanying the image was the comment, “just for fun.”

Game wardens ended up receiving multiple complaints regarding the Facebook post. TPWD dispatchers and game wardens were able to review records which eventually resulted in the positive identification of Castro and his place of employment.

On Nov. 6, game wardens interviewed Castro and obtained a signed written statement. Five days later, Willacy County Justice of the Peace George Solice issued an arrest warrant for Castro and game wardens arrested him the same day. Following arraignment, he was released with a court date of Nov. 19.

“Anglers on several social media sites were posting negative comments, and a day after the picture was originally posted, it was removed,” said Game Warden Maj. Alan Teague. “However, the picture had been saved by many anglers and reposted.”

Teague said the picture made it to fishing groups as far away as Florida.

“With tips from anglers and hard work by our game wardens and dispatchers, we were able to track the individual to a city in South Texas,” Teague said.

During sentencing, Justice of the Peace Solice noted how important recreational fishing is to the people in Willacy County which includes Port Mansfield. Before sentencing Castro, the judge pointed out that there are people in the county whose livelihood depends upon the quality and future of recreational fishing.

“It was an obscene number of fish that you caught,” the judge said to the defendant. “We are all living paycheck-to-paycheck but none of us are going hungry. It was completely unnecessary to take that many fish.”

Castro was fined $2,600 and an additional $2,645.91 will be assessed as part of the civil restitution.

Editor’s Note: This article on concealed carry holsters is excerpted from Gun Digest 2014, the world’s foremost annual book about firearms.

Concealed Carry Holsters: Plan on Them Not Feeling Right…YetSome effort is required to find the right concealed carry holster, but no matter what the choice, there is always an acclimation period. Some handguns are more ergonomic than others, but few are completely devoid of sharp edges.Concealed Carry Holsters: Don’t Spend All Your Money but Don’t Buy JunkA quality concealed carry holster goes a long way toward making carrying a defensive handgun bearable. There are many choices, and some are readily available. Blackhawk, DeSantis, and Galco are among the best-known and most reliable mass-produced holsters. There are fine concealed carry holsters that are custom made and that might be said to be examples of the maker’s art. These are not inexpensive and often take weeks, if not months, to obtain.Still, while the concepts of inexpensive and high quality don’t always go together, there are good holsters offering a balance of value and cost.Concealed Carry Holsters: Kydex is as Good as LeatherLeather is attractive, but these days, Kydex, a thermoplastic resin, is a more popular concealed carry holster material. (Do not confuse Kydex with ordinary cheap plastic, which isn’t durable enough for the rigors of concealed carry.)There are tradeoffs inherent in Kydex, but there are also advantages. One of the biggest pluses is that the material is maintenance-free and impervious to solvents or moisture.A tradeoff, if it can be called one, is that a leather holster maintains security on the long bearing surfaces of the pistol, while the Kydex holster keeps its grip primarily on the muzzle and trigger guard area. Of the downsides? Some say Kydex will wear the finish off a pistol quickly, but so does properly fitted leather.Concealed Carry Holsters: Pick a Manageable, Accurate CaliberClick here to check out the best concealed carry holsters, as picked by Living Ready’s sister pub, Gun Digest. My choice in defensive handguns is based on many years of practical experience. Having been in the wrong place at the wrong time more than once, and having written quite a few reports concerning shootings and other mayhem, I am aware of the relative wound potential of different handguns.I prefer the .45 ACP and the .357 Magnum. The .38 Special and 9mm+P are also realistic minimum calibers. I’ll always lean towards one that is manageable and accurate.Concealed Carry Holsters: Examine Your WardrobeConcealing a serious defensive handgun under lightweight garments can be problematic. If the handgun is short and compact, an outside-the-waistband (OWB) holster under a sport shirt will work fine, but, for most of us, the inside-the-waistband holster (IWB) is superior.Your covering garment is important. I have adopted a Kakadu sport shirt for much of my concealment needs. This shirt is made of Gravel canvas and has a leather collar. I admit it is stylish, but it also conceals a holster well without printing the outline of it for the world to see.Sign Up for the Living Ready E-NewsletterIf you enjoyed this article on concealed carry holsters, be sure to enter your e-mail in the box below. Written by Paul F. Joshua

Everyone keeps saying that the world is going to end and it is just a matter of years. How long? No one knows. Bible theorists say that there will be disaster all around before it happens. So, when the disaster hits, government wants you'ready. That is why they have come out with disaster survival kits. What can you expect to see in these?

When thinking of the things that every kit has to have, the first thing that comes to mind should be food and water. The water should be enough that everyone can have a few sips as you do not want to get dehydrated. The food should last at least three days and should not spoil. Everyone recommends using canned food.

Battery operated equipment is also good to have around. This includes a radio as that is how the officials get important warnings and directions to individuals before after and during bad times. The other thing that you should have is a cell phone because things that happen quickly need to be warned about to the officials so they can send out warnings. As well as a flashlight if you are asked to seek shelter or go to a meeting place when power is out.

Sometimes you are asked to move to different locations or check things on your house. Again this might be when you have no power. So the rule of thumb with this is to always keep batteries and flashlights on hand.

Some people make sure that they have first aid kits. While some do this everyone should do this. It might be a bit of time before someone can make it to where you are in the case of an emergency. Along with that you should have forms of identification so that if someone is unconscious they can tend to you. Keeping things that can help the workers to get you proper care is always good.

You might not even think about the small things, but pets and infants are the ones you'really have to worry about. There are things that they cannot eat and so forth. You might not be thinking about that when the time comes. To help this, you should have the formula, diapers, and wipes on hands for infants and the dog food and cat food on hand for the pets.

You might be trapped so having blankets with you can help you. People get cold fast and when you are in shock that is no fun. You could actually die from that. So, make sure you have those things around. They can be of great need whether you'realize that or not.

When you have these items you can be sure that you are prepared for the worst. Many people laugh it off, but anything could happen. They need to know who you are in these times of need and you have to have the resources to keep yourselves alive.

Taurus Judge decked out with the Aimpro Tactical’s custom treatment.

When the Taurus Judge first popped on the scene sometime around 2007, the big bore wheelgun, capable of firing virtually every .45-caliber round ever developed as well as .410 shotgun shells, was regaled for its novelty more so than respected for its true intention: to create one bad ass defensive handgun. But regardless of what drove the initial interest in the Judge, the interest was indeed there, and has continued so that Taurus continues to add configurations to the line (there are now at least a dozen models of the Judge) that continues to garner plenty of fans—no small feat in this age of semi-auto handgunning.

Thus it is no surprise that when Taurus approached Aimpro Tactical’s Mike Shain about teaming up to develop a line of customized Taurus handguns, among the first models worked on was a Judge. For the one pictured here, Shain started with a standard Model 4510TKR-3B Judge with a 3-inch barrel, blued finish and 2 ½-inch chambering for either .410 or .45 Long Colt rounds. The revolver’s overall length is a compact 7 ½ inches for such a big bore gun and tips the scales at a mere 29 ounces. As standard, the model comes with fixed sights, including a fiber optic front sight.

“The Judge is such a cool handgun and has become so popular because shooters can mix and match the ammo. Some manufacturers are even making special rounds just for the Judge,” says Mike Shain, owner of Aimpro Tactical (aimprotactical.com) in Colorado. The company opened in 1995 primarily as a training and consulting business with Shain using his background in law enforcement as the driver. They soon moved into customizing and building special tactical Mossberg shotguns. “I’ve been wanting to expand into the pistol and revolver area and the planets have finally lined up for us,” says Shain. With the Judge, Aimpro Tactical applied its performance package to the traditional double-action revolver offering.

First, they break the entire gun down and polish up and fine tune the double-action operation to make it as smooth as possible. The forcing cone on the barrel is recut to 11 degrees and the barrel is chamfered to 45 degrees. By chamfering the charging hole or chamber of the cylinder so that it blends better with the ejector star, loads feed much more easily, and quickly, especially when speed loading.

“It’s like reworking the magazine well of a semi-auto gun so it feeds better,” says Shain. The gun is then lubricated and functioned checked. As for the exterior of the Judge, Aimpro Tactical smooths out any hard edges on the gun, improving it for carry purposes and making it easier to draw. Applying a true custom flare, they also polish out the hammer and trigger and jewel them.

Custom Taurus Judge, fine tuned to cycle smoother.

“When I grew up jewelling was the ultimate custom feature you could do to show a gun is high-end,” says Shain. “People just twinkle at the sight at a couple of jeweled parts on their gun.” This Judge is then refinished in Xtreme-Coat, an ultra-thin moly-based coating that resists corrosion and makes the revolver even more durable than in its standard finish. The coat resists wear from use and provides a flat, nonreflective finish favorable among the tactically minded shooters of today. The frame of the gun is finished in mil-spec OD Green, while the cylinder on this model is completed in matte black. The Hogue grips on this initial Judge are black as well, though buyers also have the option of getting Hogue grips in matching OD Green as well.

As for the sights, the gun boasts a fiber optic front sight on it now with the standard red replaced with a green to better match the gun. Shain is currently working on designing a new sight for future models that will include a yellow fiber optic front sight to match flat dark earth finished guns, as well as options of brass, tritium or white.

The Judge isn’t the only Taurus receiving Aimpro Tactical’s custom treatment. Already, Shain has worked on a package gun .357 Model 617, a semi-auto 247 and a .44-caliber Raging Bull among others. Taurus will market the customized handguns as exclusives through select distributors, but Shain says if somebody sees one like this, but can’t find it at their local shop or wants to customize a handgun they already own in a similar fashion, they can contact Aimpro Tactical and request them to work one up for them. The custom Judge here has a suggested retail price of $620, which translates into buyers actually being able to buy them in stores in the low $500s and possibly even around $450.

For shooters looking to have their Taurus’ custom worked, the package price for the performance work, the X-Coat finish and the jeweling runs around $225. Or pick and choose the work you want done at a la carte prices of $125 for the performance work, $125 for the X-Coat or $50 for the jeweling.

Written by John Eagleheart

Sometimes, the most useful deer hunting tips have to do with herd management. To prize hunters, the goal is to harvest a deer with big antlers. We aspire to one day get that huge rack. All of us hear about and tell each other tales of huge antlers; points, spread, diameter, length of tine... However, do you know what really makes a difference in regards to antler size?

Antler size is affected by three major factors:

1. Heredity

2. Diet

3. The Age of the Deer

The genetics of a deer help to determine how big the antlers have the "potential" to get. In other words maximum antler size is a trait that is inherited. This is a fact that experienced deer hunters and game managers know and that science has proven. Leases are often managed in a way to produce the biggest bucks by limiting the size of the antlers that are permitted to be harvested. The gene pool of a deer population can be "antlered up" by limiting the number of deer that can be killed who have genetically superior racks and increasing the kill rate of those buck with genetically inferior racks. The actual effect of these strategies is questionable, but the though process and fact basis of this practice is very sensible. The fact is that culling of deer with inferior genetics is seldom possible when you consider the number of other deer killed within a population.

Nutrition is the second factor which determines antler size. Even with optimal genetics, the deer will not realize its full potential if the animal does not receive the proper nutrition. Most experienced hunters have hunted through seasons where drought has affected the food sources for the deer and the large antlered deer just weren't there. It is crucial for the deer population to receive adequate nutrition year-round if they are to reach their antler producing potential. Most antler growth takes place during the Spring and Summer months so this is the most important time. Inferior foliage growth during these months can greatly limit antler growth. Good habitat management can help alleviate the toll taken. Supplemental feedings are sometimes needed.

The final factor is age, however research suggests that once a buck has reached 3+ years of age genetics and nutrition play a larger part in antler growth. The size of the antler tends to increase greatly during the first few years of age and then to level off sometime between the fourth to sixth year depending on the breed and its genetics. For this reason, the harvesting of bucks younger than 4 years is not encouraged. The practice by insensitive hunters of culling bucks that are too young can lead to such colorful expressions from more experienced hunters as, "That deer still had milk on its breath." It is best overall to harvest only the mature bucks. If you are in need of venison and a mature buck is not in evidence then harvest a doe. The hunt next season will reap the benefit.

Do your Shot Groups

look like A, B, C or D?

PSP Can help You Achieve Rifle Shot Groups like Groups G and Better!

If you own a rifle, you should be able to hit what you aim at! More so, you should hit exactly where you aim every time you squeeze the trigger. Accuracy or the ability to hit your target at any range and under any condition is dependent upon many variables. Number 1, before you can have rifle accuracy, you must first have Rifle Precision! Rifle Precision is the ability to consistently shoot the same way providing tight shot groups every time. Tighter rifle shot groups will allow more accurate adjustments to your rifle sights as you zero in your rifle at any range. I want to reinforce the fundamental of consistency which are the Fundamentals of Marksmanship!
