Granite and Marble - granite and marble

Are you one of the many homeowners who have decided to remodel your own kitchen? Although there are a number of advantages to hiring the services of a professional contractor, for kitchen remodeling projects, there are also a number of disadvantages, namely the cost of doing so. Therefore, if you are looking to have your kitchen remodeled, there is a good chance that will be doing the remodeling yourself. Unfortunately, depending on the type of kitchen remodeling that is being done, it can be quite difficult. There is always a possibility that something could go wrong.

When it comes to kitchen remodeling and something unexpected, the most unexpected thing is a mistake. Honestly, sometimes even professional contractors make mistakes; therefore, there is a good chance that you may, especially if you do not have any home improvement experience. Luckily, most mistakes can be fixed. If you are remodeling your kitchen and you make a mistake, it is best to take a minute and look at the situation. Doing so may make it easier for you to come up with a solution to your problem. For instance, if you were retiling your kitchen floor and you accidentally cut a floor tile too small, you may want to think about purchasing a replacement floor tile and so on. When you take a minute to assess the situation, you will find it easier to come up with a solution to your problem.

In addition to remodeling mistakes, another problem that often arises with kitchen remodeling is injuries. Whether you are retiling your kitchen floor, replacing the light fixtures in your kitchen, or redoing your kitchen walls, you may be putting yourself at risk for injury. The best way to avoid injury is to familiarize yourself with your surroundings, the materials that you are using, as well as your tools. Should an injury still occur, you need to take action right away. If you simply get a cut that needs to be bandaged, take a few minutes to do so, especially if you are bleeding. You will not want to get blood on your newly remodeled kitchen. If a serious injury should occur, such as cut that may need stitches, you are advised to get it taken care of. Visiting your doctor or the emergency room is the best. Although you may not want to stop remodeling your kitchen, it can wait; you will not want to put yourself at anymore risk

Although most kitchen remodeling problems can be fixed, you may find it difficult to do so or you may not longer want to do so. The good thing about kitchen remodeling is that there are an unlimited number of individuals in the United States who can be considered remodeling experts. Even if you already started remodeling your kitchen and you stopped, whether it was because you got injured or you were making too many mistakes, you could still seek professional assistance. In most cases, you will find that it is never too late to call upon a professional. Therefore, if, at any point in time, you think that you are way in over your head, it may be a good idea to request the services of a professional kitchen remodeling expert. You can easily find one of these experts, also commonly referred to as contractors, by using the internet or your local phone book.

These are outlined next.

#Prepare the floor for flattening. This part of restoration is the most powerful and dynamic. It’s lippage removal or flattening. It step consist of grinding and leveling floor. Even new installed marble tile floor can have some tiles be upper or lower of floor flatness. This step removes all ledges, roughness and brings flatness to marble floors. Also, this step can remove the deepest scratches and stains.

#Hone the floor. Honing is the step of floor restoration provides smoothing the marble floor with industrial diamonds, which brings up more shine to the marble. Honing will also remove scratches, stains and give a more uniform appearance. In some cases honing is all that’s needed to get you stone looking spectacular again.

#Polish the floor. Polishing gives semi-shining or shining effect to the marble floor. Polishing is done by industrial diamonds, but smaller graded, than while honing. For marble floors in good condition a polishing can be enough to bring back the shine.

#Crystallize the floor. Crystallization is a method of marble floor finishing. It brings “mirror like” shine by chemical reaction on the surface of marble. Crystallization also creates micro film on the surface of marble, which is more solid and durable and helps to preserve the color and the brightness of the marble. Crystallization is a very good method for regular stone maintenance.

*Before you do floor restoration you should:

**Remove all furnishings
**Complete access of area
**Completely empty the room
**Protect all walls & built-in furniture
**Cover & tape areas to prevent over-spray

Granite and Marble - granite and marble

There are just so many choices you have when remodeling your home that you can find it difficult to keep up with the decisions that have to be made. If you love the look and feel of wood, you should consider laminate flooring, which is cheaper than real wood flooring, and will withstand many problems in the home, while withstanding a lot of traffic in the home at the same time. Laminate flooring is easy to install or you can have a contractor who has more time than you install the laminate flooring for your remodeling needs.

Laminate flooring can be matched to just about anything in your home. If you have a great wood trim through out your home, you can find laminate flooring that is going to match that color. The laminate flooring colors can be used to match the cupboards in your bathroom, in the kitchen or the end tables in your living room. Laminate flooring colors and shades of colors are going to vary from store to store, and from brand to brand.

Laminate flooring can be installed where you previously had carpeting before. If you are thinking about getting rid of carpeting in your home, you will find that by ripping out the carpeting, and putting down a new sub floor you are going to be ready to install a new laminate flooring in your home. Often times a laminate flooring is going to be a light color, one that is going to make the rooms of your home, where you are installing laminate flooring, seem so much bigger. The laminate flooring installed in your home will be a great change, one that you will enjoy for years to come. Laminate flooring is often times going to last longer than vinyl sheet goods and even be warmer feeling than vct tile or ceramic tile in your home.

You can install laminate flooring over warm flooring if you want. Laminate flooring can be installed over radiant heating adding that much more warmth to your flooring. If you are remodeling your home, and you are worried about heat in the floor or the flooring feeling cold, consider installing radiant heating below the flooring, you are putting down. Radiant heating below laminate flooring is going to give your feet a treat, even in the coldest weather.

Laminate flooring can be purchased online or offline. You can see the many colors of this flooring online, in pictures, and then using the measurements of your room or rooms, you can order all the materials needed directly online. You don’t have to waste gas getting to the store, when materials can be delivered directly to your home. Laminate flooring materials will be heavy and often times will be delivered by truck, so you don’t have to rent a truck or borrow a truck to get the needed materials to your home to do the job. Consider adding laminate flooring to your home remodeling list, when you are reviewing the many choices you have in remodeling the flooring in your home.

Granite and Marble - granite and marble

Are you interested in remodeling your bathroom? If so, you are not alone. Each year, thousands of homeowners make the decision to remodel their bathrooms.

Many make the decision to have a professional do the remodeling for them, while others choose to do their own remodeling. Have you decided what you would like to do yet? If you have yet to make a decision, you may be wondering whether or not it is worth it or even possible for you do your own bathroom remodeling.

One of the reasons why many homeowners choose to remodel their own bathrooms is because of the money that they can save. If you want to have your bathroom professionally remodeled, you can do so, but you will have to pay for a professional contractor. Depending on how much of your bathroom you want remodeled and who you hire to do the work, you could end up paying a fairly large amount of money; money that you may not necessarily have to spend.

Therefore, if you are looking to have your bathroom remodeled, but without having to go broke, you may want to think about doing your own bathroom remodeling. In fact, if you have prior home improvement experience, there is a good chance that your remodeling may appear as if it were professionally done.

Another one of the reasons why many homeowners choose to doing their own bathroom remodeling is because of the freedom that they have when doing so. If you decide to remodel your own bathroom, you can not only decide what you would like replaced or repaired, but you can also change your mind if you want to.

Of course, you can also change your mind when relying on a professional contractor, but your changes may result in extra charges. That is why if you plan on remodeling your bathroom as you go along, it may be a good idea to do your own remodeling. Not having to have everything planned out, such as your replacement tub or toilet, is one of the many benefits to doing your own bathroom remodeling.

Although there are a number of advantages to doing your own bathroom remodeling, there are also a number of disadvantages. One of those disadvantages is the time that it may take. The time that it will take to complete a kitchen remodeling project will depend on a number of different factors. Those factors include the amount of remodeling you need done, the amount of time you can devote to working, as well as your remodeling experience.

One of the reasons why professional contractors are able to remodel whole bathrooms in a relatively small amount of time is because of their experience. Their experience often allows them to work quicker. If you have prior home improvement experience, there is a good chance that you would get your remodeling done in a decent amount of time, but there are never any guarantees.

The risk of injury is also something else that you may want to think about, when looking to do your own bathroom remodeling. Your risk of injury will all depend on the type of bathroom remodeling project that you are working on. For instance, if you are using sharp remodeling tools, you are putting yourself at more risk. Although it is important to worry about staying safe, you will not want it to consume you. As long as you stay aware of your surroundings and know what you are doing, you should be able to complete your bathroom remodeling project without any problems or injuries.

The above mentioned advantages and disadvantages, to remodeling your own bathroom, are just a few of the many that exist. When it comes to determining whether or not you could or should do your own bathroom remodeling, you may want to keep the above mentioned points in mind. If you find that the benefits out weight the disadvantages, it may be a good idea to perform your own bathroom remodeling. However, as you already know, the decision is yours to make; you can do whatever you want to do.

Granite and Marble - granite and marble

There are a number of things to consider before remodeling you bathroom.

There are a number of things to consider before undertaking such a major project. They are:

1. Keep your eye on the ball. It is important to see the bathroom remodeling project as a whole project. Even though there are many small hurdles to tackle, it is important to see the project as a whole.

2. No remodeling project can be successful without a realistic budget. Take the time to draw up an honest budget, and try your best to stick to it.

3. Get a reliable contractor. For most people, remodeling the bathroom is not a do it yourself project. It is important to find a contractor who has experience with plumbing and remodeling bathrooms.

4. Get a detailed inspection of your bathroom done before you start. A good idea would be to have a plumber inspect your bathroom for leaks and other problems before you start.

5. Now is your chance to be more energy efficient. Chances are you will be able to save money in the long run by installing low flow toilets, water saving showerheads and other energy efficient fixtures.

6. Stay organized. Proper organization is essential to a successful bathroom remodeling project. Use a calendar to keep track of important deadlines, and remain organized as you go forward.

7. Draw your proposed bathroom design. If you want a larger bathtub, or even a jettub, be sure to draw it out and make sure you have enough space. There is also software where you can input your design including fixtures, furniture, flooring and more. Either way works great.

8. Storage space is at a premium in many modern bathrooms. See if you can remodel to gain more cabinet and storage space.

9. Be sure to shop around for what you need in order to get the best price. The prices on the same fixtures can vary quite a bit between stores.

10. A fresh coat of paint can make a huge difference when remodeling the bathroom, but many people fail to take this important and inexpensive step.

I also suggest that you go out and have fun looking at the bathrooms in show homes. They have all of the latest trends in the marketplace and will save you much time and effort in trying to come up with ideas yourself. This would be a great aid in the placement of fixtures and you can see, for example how important cupboards and storage are.
Because of the nature of the granite product, until recently, it was hard for a do-it-your self . But now there are pre-shaped granite products that come with detailed directions on how to install granite countertops that allow even a novice to successfully complete the project.

If you have a kitchen or bath area that you want to install countertops which has more than one corner or any unique features, you may still want to consider hiring a professional. Otherwise a one- or two-piece installation should be fairly easy if you follow these directions.

== Steps ==
===Measure the Countertop Carefully===
#Install your cabinets. Make sure they are level and securely attached to the floor and wall.

#Make sure walls are square. If they aren’t, make necessary allowances as you take measurements.

#Use Kraft paper or other lightweight, solid material to create a template of the countertop. Precisely mark the location of the sink hole and any other cuts in the granite.

#Decide what kind of edge you want on the countertop. Allow for an overhang on your template.

#Choose your granite material. You may want to also choose matching material for a backsplash.

#Get installation advice from the supplier on how to install granite countertops. As you make your final decision, double-check your template for accuracy.

#Order the granite.
===Prepare the Cabinets to Hold the Weight of the Granite===
#Install ¾-inch (1.905-centimeter) plywood to the tops of the cabinets. This supports the added weight of the granite. Cut the plywood even with the front of the cabinets.

#Make sure the plywood sets level on all the cabinets.

#Attach the plywood to the cabinets with screws. Drill pilot holes into the cabinet first to prevent the wood from splitting.
===Work with the Granite Slab===
#Find adequate help to move the granite slab(s) into place. Handle with care, because the granite is breakable.

#Set the granite in place. Make sure it’s going to fit properly.

#Use a pencil or marker to mark the exact line around the hole for the sink on the plywood reinforcement.

#Remove the granite from the base cabinets temporarily. Stand it upright in a safe location to prevent it from breaking.

#Make a pilot hole in the middle of the sink opening with a spade drill bit. Use a jigsaw to continue cutting out the hole in the plywood. You can cut outside of your line as much as 1/8 inch (0.3175 centimeter).

#Install the sink.
===Level the Granite and Glue It Down===
#Put the granite back on the cabinets. Push all the seams together as tightly as possible.

#Make sure the granite is level. Once it is, raise it one more time.

#Apply silicone sealer around the edges of the plywood. Space circular dollops every 6 to 12 inches (12 to 30 centimeters).

#Run a bead of caulking around the sink rim on both the plywood side and the granite side.

#Lower the granite slab into place. Make sure it’s level once again.
===Fill the Seams===
#Run blue painter’s tape on either side of the seam.

#Mix polyester-based resin with color similar to the granite. For best results mix three batches of slightly differing colors.

#Add 3 percent hardener to 97 percent resin to the medium color. Press it into the seams with a putty knife. Repeat the process with the other colors to get a close match with the granite countertop. Work quickly, because once the hardener is in place, it sets quickly.

#Remove the painter’s tape as soon as you finish the seam. When the seam dries, smooth it out using a seam stone.

Granite and Marble - granite and marble

When it comes to kitchen remodeling, we often associate kitchen remodeling with homeowners.

This is because as a homeowner, you have the right to decide whether or not you want your kitchen to be remodeled. If you are a tenant, otherwise known as an apartment renter, you may not have this same freedom; however, that doesn’t necessarily mean that you can’t get your wish and start remodeling the kitchen.

If you are renting an apartment and you would like to have your kitchen remodeled, you will need to speak to your landlord. Since it would likely be your landlord’s responsibility to pay for the remodeling, you will need to have a good reason as to why you are requesting that your kitchen be remodeled. Chances are that not liking the way that it looks will not be a good enough reason. One reason that may be good enough is if your kitchen is in poor shape. For instance, if your cupboard doors are not working, if the lights are not as bright as they should be, or if your kitchen floor has broken tiles, your landlord may be more willing to do a little bit of remodeling. While the remodeling may not be a huge project, it just may be enough to get you what you wanted.

As previously mentioned, your landlord will likely be the one who will pay for the kitchen remodeling, if it does occur, at least, he or she should be the one who pays for it. In fact, you are advised against paying for any kitchen remodeling yourself. The only exception may be if you are involved in a rent to own contract, but, otherwise, just say no. Unfortunately, you may find that no isn’t always enough. There are a number of landlords out there who will try and take advantage of their tenants, by making them pay for their own repairs or remodeling. Since you do not own the apartment that you are renting, you will not want to pay for the repairs yourself. There is no good in letting your landlord benefit from your hard work and hard earned money.

Although you are advised not to pay for the kitchen repairs or remodeling yourself, you may want to do them; however, you shouldn’t have to do them for free. If you have some home improvement experience, it may be a good idea to suggest to your landlord that you do the repairs, for a small fee. In fact, you may even want to ask your landlord to deduct the money from your rent. Of course, you will want your landlord to buy all of the supplies and tools that are needed for kitchen remodeling, but you could all benefit from you doing the repairs yourself. You should get a deduction in rent and your landlord should be able to save him or herself some money.

If you would like to have your apartment or rented home’s kitchen remodeled, you should ask. The worst that could happen is that your landlord would say no. However, with the possibility of an increased building value and discounted labor, if you do the remodeling yourself, there is a good chance that your landlord may okay a kitchen remodeling project. Even if you do not plan on spending the rest of your life in that apartment, you could easily enjoy your newly remodeled kitchen for as long as it lasts.

Granite and Marble - granite and marble

The shower can be a very scary place when all those soap suds start to accumulate on the floor of your shower. One way to feel safer in the shower is to install a grab bar to the wall. Here are the tools you will need and directions to properly install a grab bar in your tiled bathroom shower.

Once you have acquired a grab bar for the shower you need to collect the tools needed to install it. The following are the tools you will need:

Philips-head screwdriver
Drill
1/8 inch masonry bit or glass and tile bit
Stud finder or a length of wire
Tape measure
Silicone caulk
Sharp awl or carbide glass and tile drill bit
Wood bit, 1/16 narrower than the size of mounting screws

The first thing that you will need to do to install your grab bar is to locate a wall stud. If you have access to a stud finder this will help greatly. Run the stud finder along the wall until a wall stud is located and mark the spot with a fine point marker. If you do not have an electronic stud finder, no worries, just take a 1/8 masonry bit or glass and tile bit and simply drill a hole into the grout. Then take your length of wire and make a bend in it. Put the wire in the hole and by spinning it left and right you should hit a stud. If you do not locate a stud, the hole that you just drilled can be filled with a slight bit of silicone caulk. Make sure to flatten the dab of silicone caulk so it does not protrude from the grout line, allow the caulk to dry for about three hours. If you have powdered grout handy, mix up a bit and patch the hole. Re-drill another hole until you locate a stud. When you do find a stud, measure 16 inches from that hole and you should be able to drill into another stud.

You will want to mark your stud locations so that you can measure from the base of the tub to determine the placement of your bar. Place your bar so that each end is over a stud and mark the screw holes that are in the mounting bracket.

To drill the mounting holes into tile you will need to make a starting point for the drill bit or else the bit will run across the tile. To make a starting point use a sharp awl or afore mentioned drill bit. Using your hand, twist the instrument on your make to make a slight impression on the tile; this will keep your drill bit from slipping. Do not use a punch or you are likely to crack your tile. Use the glass and tile bit to drill your hole. If using a masonry bit, place tape over the tile and drill slowly to avoid shattering the tile. You don’t want to break your tiles when screwing the mounting brackets on either so use a bit that is 1/32 wider than the size of the mounting screw you will be using. Start drilling the hole slowly and with even pressure so as not to slide off your mark. Use light pressure when drilling to avoid cracking the tile.

Make sure not to drill deeper than the tile and it backing. At this point, you will need to change your bit to the wood bit 1/16 narrower than the screw. This will make a pilot hole in the studs.

The final step is to mount the bar. Silicone caulk will need to be applied to the holes before mounting; this is to protect the wood and backing boards behind the tiles from leaking water. Simply screw the bar to the wall. You will want to use stainless steel screw or they will rust. Tighten the screws firmly making sure to not over tighten them or they will crack the tile.

Although many homeowners love their kitchens, including their kitchen cabinets, there are some who are looking for a change. If you are one of those homeowners, the ones who are looking for a change, you may want to think about remodeling your kitchen, particularly your kitchen cabinets.

When it comes to kitchen remodeling, there is a common misconception that is mistakenly believed by many. That misconception is exactly what kitchen remodeling is. Many assume that to remodel a kitchen you need to change everything, from the light fixtures all the way down to the floor tiles.

While a large number of homeowners do choose to remodel their whole kitchen, there are others who only choose to remodel small portions of it.

Whether you are looking to remodel your whole kitchen, all at once, or you if are only looking to remodel a part of it, there is a good chance that you may be in the market for new kitchen cabinets; they are one of the most commonly remodeled parts of a kitchen.

Although choosing a new set of kitchen cabinets may seem like a fairly easy task, it is one that you shouldn’t make on an impulse. Since you will be stuck with these new kitchen cabinets, at least until you move or decide to remodel again, you will want to make sure that you get your first choice. There are a number of different ways that you can do this.

For the best results, you may want to visit your local home improvement store. When visiting one of your local home improvement stores, you should find a collection of kitchen cabinets on display; in fact, you may find a fairly large number of them on display. Viewing each of these kitchen cabinets is a great way to decide which cabinets would look great installed in your kitchen.

In addition to visiting your local home improvement store, you may also want to examine kitchen cabinets online. Although the shipping for kitchen cabinets is often considered quite high, you may be able to find exactly what you were looking for online.

It is advised that you find either an online home improvement retailer or an individual who specializes in making their own kitchen cabinets. In fact, if you are looking for a unique set of kitchen cabinets, a set that you cannot find anywhere else, you may be able to order a custom set of kitchen cabinets.

The cost may be more than what you intended on paying, but, as previously mentioned, it is important to get what you want, especially when remodeling your kitchen.

When searching for the perfect set of kitchen cabinets, for your next kitchen remodeling project, it is important to keep a number of things in mind. One of those things is what you will be using your kitchen cabinets for. What you are using your kitchen cabinets for may have an impact on what you can and cannot have.

For instance, if you will be using your kitchen cabinets to store your food or your dishes, you will need to make sure that you purchase cabinets that can offer you the most space. While decorative kitchen cabinets are nice, they are sometimes limited on the storage space that they have.

In addition to the size of the storage space, it is also important to examine the size of the kitchen cabinet itself. In the United States, most home improvement stores sell kitchen cabinets that are not fully put together, but they are often precut to size. It may be possible to change the measurements, but you may find it to be difficult and costly to do so.

Although you may be more concerned about the color or design of a kitchen cabinet set, it is important to remember the basics. Even the most beautiful kitchen cabinet set will not do you any good if it cannot be installed in your kitchen.

By keeping the above mentioned points in mind, you should be able to go out and find the kitchen cabinet set that you were looking for. Once you have found the kitchen cabinet set of your dreams, the remodeling can begin.

Whether you choose to install your own kitchen cabinets or you let a professional do it for you, your cabinets could be installed in as little as a day or two.

If so, have you decided what you would like to have remodeled?

There are some homeowners who only choose to start remodeling a small portion of their bathroom, but there are others who wish to remodel every square inch of it. Whether you are only looking to plan a small remodeling project or a large one, there is a good chance that you may be in need of new bathroom cabinets.

When it comes to bathroom cabinets, you will find that not everyone needs or wants them. There are some homeowners who choose to keep their bathrooms as simple as they could possible be, which often includes leaving the cabinets out of the bathroom. Despite the fact that not all homeowners have cabinets inside their bathrooms, a large number of them do. One of the reasons for that is storage space. Whether you are looking for a place to store your bath towels or your health and beauty products, a bathroom cabinet may come in handy.

Whether you are looking to replace your old bathroom cabinets with new ones or if you are installing cabinets in your bathroom for the first time, you will need to make a decision. That decision is what type of cabinets you would like to purchase. Although it may seem like a fairly easy decision to make, you may find that it isn’t as easy as you originally thought. One of the reasons for that is because all of the choices that you will have. When it comes to buying new cabinets for your bathroom, you will find that you, literally, have an unlimited number of different options.

Perhaps, the best thing to do, when looking for new bathroom cabinets, is decide what you would like to have or, at least, where you would like to have them. For instance, if you are remodeling the rest of your bathroom, there is a chance that you may have already decided on a new bathroom sink or toilet. If that is the case, you will want to choose bathroom cabinets that will match the rest of your remodeled bathroom. Although you may be unable to pre-select a style, you should at least be able to decide on a color. The color, alone, may come in handy when shopping for a new set of bathroom cabinets.

In addition to the color, it is also important that you determine how much space you have available for cabinets. This is important because bathroom cabinets come in a number of different sizes, shapes, and styles. Many bathroom cabinets can be resized, with the right training or professional assistance, but it may be impossible to do it will all cabinets. That is why it is advised that you know, ahead of time, how much room you will have for your bathroom cabinets. The last thing that you will want is to be stuck with a set of cabinets that are too big for your bathroom.

Once you have decided what size bathroom cabinets you need, as well was what color cabinets you want, you may want to start shopping. Whether you do your shopping online or in one of your local home improvement stores, you will find that shopping, almost always, makes it easier to find the bathroom cabinets of your dreams. In fact, if you are remodeling the rest of your bathroom, it may be a good idea to make all of your purchases at the same time. Doing so may help to ensure that all of the bathroom fixtures, materials, and supplies used will compliment each other; often resulting in the best bathroom ever.

Whether you decide to shop for your bathroom cabinets, as well as the rest of your bathroom remodeling supplies, online or in one of your local home improvement stores, it is important that you take a minute to examine your decision. Bathroom remodeling projects can not only take a lot of time, but a lot of money; therefore, you will want to make sure that your decision is the right one.
