Heli Skiing in Bella Coola for enRoute

Last winter I found myself just outside of Bella Coola, BC, at the Tweedsmuir Park Lodge, on a heli-skiing assignment for enRoute. Long story short- There was almost too much snow to even go skiing! Helicopter doors, once landed, could barely open do to the depth of the wintery white stuff. The avalanche danger was high and pockets of snow kept ripping out off the mountain sides. The guides were amazing, sheltering us from danger while still allowing for a good time. And, of course, when we couldn't fly, there was always fishing.

New Work for Infiniti + Campfire

And now for something completely different. Earlier this year I worked with the New York based agency, Campfire, on a job for Infiniti. Campfire created a call-in-choose-your-own-adventure-movie to launch the new Q50. I was on set to shoot the below movie poster and stills for other marketing material. More to come.

enRoute was kind enough to publish some of my personal work from the Xinjiang province of China.

"Unforgiving landscapes – and the hardy people who make their life on them – have always held a fascination for Harder. A local Kyrgyz (the name translates fittingly as “imperishable”) family welcomed him into their one-room home, where he slept bundled “mummy-like” under quilts beside the children and their parents, around a potbelly stove to stave off the 3,600-metre-altitude cold. Very early each day, the children’s father left for prayer in the village’s only mosque…"

4 men set out to row across the Atlantic, the first ever trip from mainland Africa to mainland North America. They didn’t quite make it, capsizing on day 73 and 2700 nautical miles from their starting point of Dakar. All survived. Prince Albert National Park for Mercedes Benz Magazine

I spent a couple of days in Prince Albert National Park, Saskatchewan, for Mercedes Benz Magazine. This was almost a year ago now. I remember eating a delicious northern pike burger (twice), a lot of rain, kind people (like really kind) and a little town called Waskesiu. Waskesiu is Saskatchewan's version of Jasper, I suppose. The plan was to go to Grey Owl's cabin but the weather didn't cooperate so we paddled around in the rain, which was fine by me.

While on assignment in the Yukon...

Do shoots ever go exactly as planned? Does anything in life? Probably not, which is part of the fun. As I was cycling to Vancouver City Hall to scout for a Monocle Magazine shoot, that was scheduled for the following day, I was informed that there was a change in plans. Mayor Gregor Robertson would no longer be available the following day and the scout would now in fact be THE shoot. So much for planning. And good thing I had a camera with me. 10 mins to scout and find a zone + 10 mins to shoot. Gregor, I'm a big fan. Thank you for your time and for keeping me on my toes!

We are pleased to announce that this year’s Night Visions will be taking place in conjunction with Vancouver’s newly-revived Chinatown Night Market. Legendary Vancouver-based photographer Fred Herzog will be opening the show with a selection of his timeless colour photographs. Fred has been a photographic hero to Night Visions, and we couldn’t be more thrilled that he is exhibiting with us for this great event. This year’s exhibition will feature photographers from across Canada. To make things even more special we will be projecting everyone’s images 30x40 feet large onto the side of The Keefer building to a live DJayed set by Cherchez la Femme.
