The habit reportedly stems from the old textile mill-based economy and the practice of closing the mills for a week or two this time of year.

I think it might also have to do with the time-honored southern traditions of slow-cookin' barbecue, drinking beer on the patio, and heading to the beach in a desperate attempt to escape the dog days of summer. (Course, if that last one were really the case everybody would shut down for the entire month of August.)

At any rate, I've been told about a few holiday hours I'll pass along:

County Line Cafe in Luthersville is closed until July 6th

Nick's Pizzeria is closed Saturday (also closed at lunch July 3 but open Friday night)

Rogers BBQ Luthersville is open Saturday until 2:30 pm

Grantville's Hidden Treasures will be OPEN on Saturday. This year's holiday marks the anniversary of the very first "Monthly Market." Leann will be offering some GREAT DEALS to folks who stop by...and DJ is sure to have some yummy watermelon on hand. A lazy drive down Highway 29 including - "the old highway" that is now Main & LaGrange streets - is a great way to make an adventure of your holiday excursion to Moreland, Franklin or Newnan for July 4 activities!!

Get Updates in Email
Use A Feed Reader

Her performance is scheduled for late July. This is a great opportunity for Grantville to pull together with an old-fashioned send-off to a hometown girl heading for stardom! Donations can be paid payable to Destiny's mom, Donnica "Nellie" Heard, and dropped off at Nick's if you don't know Nellie.

Get Updates in Email
Use A Feed Reader

Those guys have a crazy habit of placing barrels and directing traffic as they think necessary in order to ensure the safety of workers as well as efficient project completion. When they blocked through-way driving on Main Street, and consequently limited access to curbside parking at downtown businesses, it caused much confusion and consternation among Main Street denizens.

Fortunately for all of those in the throes of distress, Grantville City Manager Scott Starnes responded to their cries of alarm promptly. He personally moved some of the traffic barrels to ensure easy access to the properties affected, thereby allowing hundreds of inconvenienced patrons to avoid the torture of walking an extra thirty yards to take care of their business.

Get Updates in Email
Use A Feed Reader

</do></editorial>

All donations are tax deductible.

The NCHFH Habitat ReStore is an outlet center open to the public stocked full of incredible deals that change daily. The ReStore offers a wide variety of items, new and used, including furniture, appliances, cabinets, flooring, lighting, plumbing, building materials, doors, windows and more.

Through residential and commercial donations of overstocked, discontinued or slightly used items, the NCHFH Habitat ReStore has diverted over 282 tons of reusable items from landfills by providing these materials to the public at low prices. CLM Sanitation will make rounds in the city on Monday, April 20 for curbside collection of large items discarded as a result of weekend cleaning activities.
Get Updates in Email
Use A Feed Reader

Indoor space (no climate control...but no blinding sun either!) is available for a fee. Please note that we do not accept food vendors for this event (except traditional bake-sale items are okay.)

The Corner Market is primarily intended as a Community Rummage Sale / Swap Meet but crafts persons and other vendors are welcome as well. We organized this as a free event and want to keep it that way for non-professional vendors, but we request a few bucks from prospective sellers to confirm registrations and provide the means for more aggressive advertising.

For more information talk to Kim at Nick's Pizza or LeAnn at Grantville's Hidden Treasures.

Get Updates in Email
Use A Feed Reader

Check with City Hall (770-583-2289) to determine if the pet has already been picked up, and to provide your contact information should the pet be found later. (Please note that city ordinances establish fees and other provisions regarding the return of collected pets to owners.)

Joe and Maryleigh would love to see more of our local strays adopted here in town, rather than taken to Coweta County's animal control facility, where they will be euthanized if not claimed or adopted promptly. If you are interested in adopting or generally helping care for strays and foundlings, contact Maryleigh.

Spaying your pet is the best way to help stem the tide of homeless pets. Steadman, Ph.D. and Paige Steadman, will meet July 20-24 (Monday-Friday), 1:00-4:15 p.m. Enrollment in the camp, which is designed for ages 7 to 15, is limited, so early registration is encouraged.

Participants will learn important theatre techniques as they enjoy creating the characters--human, animal and fantastical--that populate Cinderella’s life as told through her magical diary. With an emphasis on character development and ensemble performance, the camp is suitable both for those with theatre experience and for newcomers to the stage.
