I’ve always felt lucky living just one state over from Mississippi! It makes it easy to slip away for a trip that feels like stepping into another world. And if there’s one place that captures that feeling perfectly, it’s Clarksdale, Mississippi.

In the heart of the Delta, about 75 miles south of Memphis, Clarksdale sits right at the famous crossroads of Highways 61 and 49. But it’s more than just a dot on the map: it’s a place with a vibe all its own. The moment you arrive, you can feel it: the music, the stories, the slightly rough-around-the-edges charm that makes everything feel real and alive.

The history here runs deep. Legends like Muddy Waters, Son House, Ike Turner, and W. C. Handy all have roots in this area. You can feel their influence everywhere, especially at the Delta Blues Museum, where the stories come to life through photos, artifacts, and even the cabin where Muddy Waters once lived.

But Clarksdale isn’t just about music; it’s full of unexpected layers. It’s also where Tennessee Williams spent part of his childhood, and you can still explore that side of its history at the local museum and annual festival dedicated to his work.

There’s a certain kind of madness that only makes sense in the middle of the night.

The kind where you tell yourself, “Just ten more minutes,” and suddenly it’s 3:47 a.m., your room is completely dark except for the glow of a livestream, and you’re emotionally invested in a man running through the California desert like sleep is optional.

That is me this week watching Arda Saatçi during his current “Cyborg Season” run - a brutal 600-kilometer challenge from Death Valley to Santa Monica in just 96 hours. You can watch the live stream HERE!

And somehow, even through the exhaustion, the silence, and the absurdity of staying awake for someone else’s suffering, I couldn’t stop watching.

Because Arda doesn’t just run.

He turns endurance into storytelling.

More Than an Athlete

Arda Saatçi has become one of the most recognizable ultra-endurance athletes of his generation, not because he wins traditional races, but because he creates impossible-looking challenges and drags viewers through every painful kilometer with him. (Red Bull)

I’m so excited (and honestly still a little in disbelief) to share that I’ve been selected for the first round of Johnny Depp’s The People’s Artist Project. Out of so many talented creatives, my work was chosen to move forward, and now the next step depends on community support.

I didn’t expect to feel this excited about a sequel, but here we are.

Ever since I first watched The Devil Wears Prada, it’s held a permanent spot in my comfort-movie rotation. There’s just something about that mix of fashion, ambition, sharp dialogue, and unforgettable characters that never gets old. So when I heard that The Devil Wears Prada 2 was finally happening, I was already all in.

But what really pushed my excitement over the edge? The soundtrack.

The newly released The Devil Wears Prada 2: Music From The Motion Picture feels like a perfect extension of the film’s world—stylish, bold, and unapologetically glamorous. And as someone who loves a good movie soundtrack, this one hits especially hard.

First of all, the lineup is stacked. We’re talking artists like Dua Lipa, Miley Cyrus, SZA, and Laufey—basically a dream mix of sounds and vibes that somehow still feels cohesive.

But let me be honest: the biggest highlight for me is Lady Gaga.

Not only is she part of the soundtrack—she has three original songs on it. Three! That alone makes this feel like an event. Her tracks—“Shape of a Woman,” “Glamorous Life,” and especially “RUNWAY” with Doechii—bring exactly the kind of energy you’d expect from the Runway universe. “RUNWAY” in particular feels like it was made to blast while strutting down a sidewalk like it’s your personal catwalk.

All in all, this sequel feels like it understands exactly what made the original so iconic while bringing something fresh to the table. And the soundtrack? It’s not just an add-on—it’s a huge part of the experience.

Homemade Woodruff Syrup (Waldmeistersirup)

Made with fresh woodruff, this homemade Waldmeistersirup is floral, nostalgic, refreshing, and perfect for drinks, desserts, cocktails, and traditional Berliner Weisse.

Recipe Details

Prep time: 20 minutes active, plus 12–24 hours wilting
Cook time: 10 minutes
Steeping time: 24–48 hours
Yield: About 6 cups syrup
Cuisine: German

Ingredients

4 1/4 cups water
5 cups granulated sugar
1 bunch fresh woodruff, about 20–30 stems
1 organic lemon, sliced
Optional: 1/2 teaspoon citric acid, for longer shelf life and added brightness

Instructions

1. Wilt the Woodruff

Spread the fresh woodruff loosely on a tray or towel and allow it to wilt for 12–24 hours.

This step is important because it helps develop the signature woodruff aroma through the natural release of coumarin.

2. Make the Sugar Syrup

Heat the water and sugar together in a pot until the sugar has completely dissolved. Allow the syrup to cool fully.

3. Infuse the Flavor

Lightly bruise the woodruff to release its oils. If it is clean, avoid washing it so you don’t lose flavor.

Add the woodruff and lemon slices to the cooled syrup.

4. Let It Steep

Cover the mixture and let it steep in the refrigerator or a cool place for 24–48 hours.

5. Strain

Remove the woodruff and lemon slices. Stir in citric acid if desired.

I know some of you follow me on Instagram for a while now, and witnessed a project I as working on every single day in 2023.…since I’ve just entered said project into an art competition (I hope it gets selected) - it dawned on me that I have NEVER shared the finished blanket! 3 years later, voila!
When people ask me how I’ve made it through the first year after losing Justin to suicide, my answer is always: therapy and tons of yarn. SO HERE IT IS! 11ft by 4.5ft of one of the hardest years of my life.

This crocheted blanket is a year-long record of daily temperatures in El Dorado, Arkansas during 2023, translated into color through yarn. Each row represents a single day, creating a visual timeline where shifting hues reflect the natural rhythms of the seasons—subtle transitions, sudden extremes, and the passage of time made tangible.

Beyond its function as a temperature record, this piece is deeply personal. I began this project in the aftermath of losing my partner in 2022, using the steady, repetitive motion of crochet as a way to stay grounded and move forward one day at a time. The structure of the blanket mirrors that process: each row is small on its own, but together they form something whole, resilient, and enduring.

Among the rows is a single black line that breaks the pattern. This marks the day I lost my cat, Coco, who had been by my side for 22 years and lived to the age of 24. I’ll admit it: I was a huge fan of MTV’s Catfish. There was something fascinating, emotional, and sometimes heartbreaking about watching people discover whether the person they had fallen for online was really who they claimed to be. But as entertaining as the show was, it also highlighted a very real problem: catfishing can happen to anyone.

Despite years of warnings from the FTC, high-profile scam cases, and even MTV’s Catfish bringing awareness to fake online relationships, catfishing and romance scams continue to rise.

As someone who was a fan of MTV’s Catfish, I always thought the show was fascinating — watching people uncover the truth behind online relationships felt dramatic but distant. But over time, it became clear that the situations featured on the show were far more common than many people realized.

Today, the numbers show just how widespread the problem has become.

According to the FBI’s Internet Crime Complaint Center (IC3), nearly 18,000 Americans reported romance or confidence scams in 2023, with victims losing more than $650 million. In 2024, reported losses climbed even higher, surpassing $672 million nationwide. These scams remain among the most financially damaging forms of online fraud.

The FBI also reports that internet crime overall continues to surge. In 2024, Americans reported more than $16 billion in losses from online scams and cybercrime — a 33% increase from the previous year. Romance scams continue to rank among the costliest forms of fraud because scammers spend weeks or months building emotional trust before asking for money.

Many victims never report what happened due to embarrassment, meaning the real numbers are likely far higher. Experts say scammers are becoming more sophisticated, using social media, dating apps, stolen photos, fake careers, and even AI-generated messages to appear convincing.So how do you know whether you’re being catfished?

A major warning sign is when someone asks for money, especially if you have never met them in person. Another red flag is when they constantly avoid meeting face-to-face, often using last-minute emergencies as excuses. Some catfishers claim they are stationed overseas, working on an oil rig, or otherwise unable to meet. Refusing to video chat is another common sign. And finally, trust your instincts: if someone seems too good to be true, they might be.

The best way to protect yourself is to verify who you’re talking to before sharing personal information, sending money, or agreeing to meet in person. A quick search on Google, reverse image searches, and identity-checking resources like SocialCatfish.com can help you spot warning signs early.

MTV’s Catfish made for great television, but the issue behind the show is very real. Online connections can be meaningful, but they should also be approached with caution. Before you fall too hard for someone you’ve never met, take the time to make sure they are who they say they are.

There are a few artists whose music just hits differently for you, and for me that artist has always been Lewis Capaldi. His songs have this way of sneaking into the quiet parts of your life and sitting there with you - heartbreak, hope, all of it. So when I woke up to the news about what happened in New York yesterday, I had two immediate reactions: excitement… and genuine heartbreak that I missed it.

Because apparently, if you were anywhere near Penn Station yesterday afternoon, you might have stumbled into something pretty magical.

Just hours before his massive headlining show at Madison Square Garden, Capaldi casually popped up outside a flower shop in Penn Station and performed a surprise mini set for commuters and fans. Not a ticketed event, not a big announcement - just Lewis, a piano, and a crowd that grew to more than 5,000 people as word spread.

And yes, he was handing out flowers.

He set up in front of Damselfly Flowers and performed three songs, turning a regular weekday rush hour into what sounded like one of the most unexpectedly emotional live moments New York has seen in a while. Fans, commuters, and curious passersby ended up packed into the space, watching him perform and walking away with single-stem flowers he handed out himself.

As a big Capaldi fan, I can’t lie - the idea of randomly running into him performing and leaving with a flower from him personally feels like the kind of story you’d tell forever. The fact that I missed it? Devastating. Truly.

The pop-up performance also doubled as the first live moment for his new song, “Stay Love,” which just dropped as part of the deluxe edition of his Survive EP. The track is exactly the kind of emotional, piano-driven ballad Capaldi does best - vulnerable, stripped back, and completely honest.

The lyrics feel like a quiet plea for someone to stay when everything else feels like it’s falling apart:

“Oh just stay, love, when everybody’s leaving…
And when the road gets rough, don’t give up on us.”

Produced by The Monsters & Strangerz and Michael Pollack, “Stay Love” expands the Survive EP into a five-track collection that explores heartbreak, resilience, and the slow climb back toward hope. The project already included the anthemic title track “Survive,” plus “Something in the Heavens,” “Almost,” and the gut-punch that is “The Day That I Die.”

And if the Penn Station moment wasn’t enough, Capaldi took that same energy to the stage later that night for his biggest U.S. headline show yet at Madison Square Garden.

The night also carried some deeper meaning for him. Early in his career, one of his first U.S. headline shows took place at the now-closed Rockwood Music Hall in New York. In a full-circle moment, Capaldi invited the venue’s former staff and their families to the MSG show and made a donation to the National Independent Venue Association to support independent music venues.

Moments like that are exactly why fans connect with him the way they do. Yes, the voice is incredible. Yes, the songs destroy your emotions in the best way. But he’s also the kind of artist who remembers where he started.

Right now Capaldi is in the middle of what’s shaping up to be his biggest North American run yet, with stops at venues like Red Rocks Amphitheatre and Hollywood Bowl before heading back to Europe this summer.

And while I’m still mourning the fact that I didn’t randomly walk through Penn Station yesterday and end up with a flower from Lewis Capaldi himself, it’s also a reminder of why people love him so much in the first place.

He has this way of turning ordinary moments into something unforgettable.

And apparently, sometimes those moments come with flowers.

What started in the world of film scoring—Challengers, TRON, and beyond—became something stranger, heavier, and more kinetic. Trent Reznor and Boys Noize found themselves locked into a shared language: texture over tradition, tension over structure, chaos carefully engineered into shape.

That chemistry didn’t stay in the studio.

It migrated to the stage.

The Peel It Back tour turned into a proving ground—Nine Inch Nails performing across two stages, including an intimate B-stage embedded in the crowd, where Boys Noize would join Reznor and company to tear familiar material apart and rebuild it in real time. A record built everywhere and nowhere

The Nine Inch Noize album doesn’t come from a single studio or a single mindset. It was assembled in motion—cut together from hotel rooms, tour stops, studios, flights, and live environments where the line between performance and production barely exists.

It’s Nine Inch Nails material, Reznor/Ross score work, and How to Destroy Angels fragments—all pulled through a distorted electronic prism courtesy of Boys Noize.

Familiar songs like “Closer” and “Heresy” don’t return so much as they get dismantled and rebuilt in high voltage form. Even GRAMMY-winning material like “As Alive As You Need Me To Be” from TRON: Ares is recontextualized into something sharper, darker, and more immediate.

This isn’t remix culture.

This is reconstruction.

A live experience that already feels historic

Early reactions to Nine Inch Noize live sets have been borderline reverent. Critics have described the performances as immersive, cinematic, and borderline overwhelming—in the best possible way. A kind of “controlled chaos” that only Nine Inch Nails can really make feel precise.

With Mariqueen Maandig also part of the live configuration, the sound expands further outward, adding texture and emotional weight to an already massive sonic landscape.

One phrase keeps coming up in coverage: desert epic.

If you’ve been following along here lately, you already know I’ve been leaning into a bit of a Louisiana theme on the blog—and honestly, it feels perfectly timed. Ever since Lana married real-life Louisiana swamp guide Jeremy Dufrene, the bayou energy has quietly woven its way into her story, and this new chapter feels like it could be steeped in that same Southern mystique.

“White Feather Hawk Tail Deer Hunter” was written by Lana Del Rey alongside her sister Chuck Grant, her brother-in-law Jason Pickens, and her husband Jeremy Dufrene. The track was produced by Lana and her longtime collaborator Jack Antonoff, with Drew Erickson contributing co-production and strings. Mixing was handled by Dean Reid and Laura Sisk, bringing together a team that has helped shape much of Lana’s recent sound.

The release may also be the first glimpse into a larger project on the horizon. In an Instagram story posted on Saturday, February 7, Lana shared that her new album is expected to arrive in roughly three months.

For now, “White Feather Hawk Tail Deer Hunter” offers the first taste of what’s coming next—and if the title alone is any indication, we might be heading deeper into the wild, atmospheric storytelling Lana does best.

Living right on the Arkansas–Louisiana border, I get the best of both worlds—and I can wholeheartedly recommend taking the time to visit. There are plenty of places to explore, scenic routes to enjoy, and of course, incredible food waiting for you around every corner. And if you can time your trip just right… it might even be crawfish season.

Outstanding biking, hiking and nature trails lead to Louisiana’s Northshore adventure

The Northshore is known as a welcoming destination and an easy escape. For those who love to hit the trail, it’s the perfect escape for a variety of activities. Just 40 minutes north of New Orleans, halfway between Baton Rouge and the Mississippi Gulf Coast, the communities of the Northshore are home to trails that attract cyclists, nature lovers and those who just want to get out and enjoy the diversity and beauty of region. In addition, some find the Southern hospitality and Louisiana cuisine sometimes make it a difficult place to leave.

The 31-mile Tammany Trace is a main attraction for cyclists and runners from throughout the region and beyond. This Hall of Fame Rails-to-Trails multi-use path connects Northshore communities which give visitors plenty of reasons to stop and stay a while. The trail stretches from downtown Covington through Abita Springs, Mandeville and Lacombe, and ends in Slidell. The Tammany Trace gives users stretches of trail with a feeling of being a world away. Yet the scenic route is dotted with a host of farmers markets, playgrounds, a wildlife refuge, breweries, nearby Lake Pontchartrain’s beaches and more, making it a choose-your-own-adventure experience.

Big Branch Marsh National Wildlife Refuge (61389 Highway 434, Lacombe, Louisiana 70445; 985-882-2000) encompasses more than 18,000 acres of pine flatwoods, coastal marshes and other diverse habitats. Hundreds of native and migratory bird species can be seen among the fresh and brackish marshes, bayous and forested lands. The half-mile long Boy Scout Road Boardwalk Trail is a family-friendly wooden boardwalk that provides marsh views and interpretive signs that highlight the natural history of the area. Turtles and a variety of birds are popular sights and in spring, the Louisiana iris blooms along the roadside in wet areas. Beyond the boardwalk, the Boy Scout Road Trail offers a four-mile out and back hike on a gravel and dirt path that travels from pine savannah, past a marsh overlook and old oak trees to the edge of Bayou Lacombe. The endangered red-cockaded woodpecker is a favorite sighting here in spring and summer. The half-mile Camilia Trail begins near the Visitor Center and winds past a small wetland to a cavern containing an artesian spring, as well as to an overlook of Bayou Lacombe.

There are also hiking and nature trails in the beautiful 2,800-acre Fontainebleau State Park (62883 Highway 1089, Mandeville, Louisiana 70448; 985-624-4443). Sprawling on the shores of Lake Pontchartrain, this historic park offers beautiful lake views and 2,800 acres of habitat to explore. Established in 1942, this is the most visited state park in the state. Among its amenities are a section of the Tammany Trace trail, in addition to a 1.25-mile nature trail, complete with interpretive signage, and a nearly five-mile hiking trail. Bordered on three sides by water–Lake Pontchartrain, Bayou Cane and Bayou Castine–the park’s variety of ecosystems and habitats are home to more than 400 species of native animals. For those with mobility issues who want to get out and explore the trails, an all-terrain track wheelchair is available.

Set on 400 acres of preserved pine and hardwood forest along Bayou Castine, Northlake Nature Center (23135 Highway 190, Mandeville, Louisiana 70448; 985-626-1238) offers more than eight miles of hiking and biking trails, a raised boardwalk and scenic overlooks. The trails extend through a variety of ecosystems and are complemented by interpretive signage and outdoor classrooms. The site also includes areas of cultural interest and archaeological importance.

For those who prefer mountain biking, Bogue Chitto State Park (17049 State Park Boulevard, Franklinton, Louisiana 70438; 985-839-5707) has 25 miles of trails offering adventure and excitement for bikers of all skill levels. The dual slalom, wall rides and Tower of Terror jump are just a few of the many exciting features. There is also a skills course and two pump tracks for adult and young riders. The park also has equestrian trails open to riders who bring their own horses. In addition, Bogue Chitto Horse Rentals (985-516-4975) offers public and private guided rides and provides horses and all equipment. The park, which also has a seven-mile nature trail, is said to be located amid some of the most interesting topography of southern Louisiana, with the trail head located near Fricke’s Cave.

Splendor Farms B&B and Trail Riding Facility (27329 Mill Creek Road, Bush, Louisiana 70431; 985-886-3747) is a beautiful farm that offers horseback trail rides in addition to a host of other amenities and activities. Guided rides take guests through creeks and woods, across grassy fields and around lakes.

They also offer guided tours through historic areas of Covington and Mandeville, a tour of St. Tammany’s four breweries and a tour of cool places off the beaten path along the Tammany Trace. I've Finished the 20 Mile Mammoth March at Pinnacle Mountain State Park

About a year ago, I had what felt like a grand (and slightly crazy) idea — sign up for a 20-mile Mammoth March at Pinnacle Mountain State Park. Thankfully, my friend was just crazy enough to join me, and I’ll always be grateful she did. We made a pretty great team. 💪

March 7 was the day, and what an experience it turned out to be.

If you’re looking for an honest Mammoth March review, here’s the truth: this hike is no joke. The course at Pinnacle Mountain State Park is absolutely beautiful, but the trails are about 80% rocky terrain, with serious elevation and relentless inclines that will test your legs and your mindset.

And then the weather showed up.

We spent seven straight hours being under a Tornado watch, hiking through thunderstorms, pouring rain, gusty winds. and slippery, rock-covered trails. It was easily one of the toughest endurance challenges I’ve ever taken on.

My goal going in was simple: just finish. I don’t quit. What I didn’t expect was crossing the finish line in under 7 hours.

The first 15 miles actually felt surprisingly good. I kept waiting for my body to hit the wall, but it didn’t happen as early as I expected.

Then came the final 5 miles.

That’s when the Mammoth March really lived up to its name. The rocky trails, steep climbs, cold rain, and fatigue pushed me further than I thought I could go. I probably hit my physical breaking point about 20 different times. I was completely soaked, freezing, and exhausted.

But something bigger kept me moving forward: mindset.

One step at a time.
One mile at a time.
Just keep going.

And we did it.

I also have to give a huge shoutout to the Mammoth March crew and all the volunteers. They were absolutely incredible. From encouragement along the trail to keeping everything organized and safe despite the weather, they made the entire event feel welcoming and motivating. Events like this only work because of people like them.

Would I recommend the Mammoth March at Pinnacle Mountain State Park? Absolutely.

If you’re searching for a challenging 20-mile hike, an endurance hiking event, or a Mammoth March review, know this: it’s tough, it’s beautiful, and it will push you mentally and physically in the best way possible.

And yes… my shoes did not survive the journey.

Hey. I am not even sure if someone is still reading my blog. But I thought I'd give an update.

I'm still here. I'm still alive. But so much has happened within the last year. I don't know where to start. Does anyone even care? It's my blog, so I use it as an outlet, just like I used to. So, where have I been?

TW: Suicide. Mental Health.

Life as I knew it and loved it came to an abrupt halt on 03/02/2022. It was a beautiful spring day. I've had a meeting at a local coffee shop. At one point I looked out of the window, and saw my boyfriend Justin drive by in his work truck...

...litte did I know it would be the last time I see him alive.

We were supposed to meet at his house during lunch. He had a doctor's appointment at 1pm, and I was supposed to pick up our puppy and drop him off.

After my meeting I went to my house first. The second I sat down, a feeling grew inside of me. Anxiety. I tried to call Justin. Twice. No answer. Panic came up. I don't even know why. I got back in the car, drove to his house. The second I pull up, his mom pulls up in her car as well. This never happened before.

We chat, said we were both a bit worried that he might miss his appointment. I open the garage. We can't find him. He's not in the house. I see the door that leads from the laundry room into the backyard is open... step outside... look to my left... and that's when I see him. Sitting in a chair. The gun on the ground. He's gone...

I run over to him. Hug him. Yell at him "Why?" and "Don't leave." Tell him I love him over and over again. But it's too late. About 20 minutes before we arrived, he decided to end his life. He lost a long battle with depression and anxiety. He had medical help. Therapy. A loving family. Myself. But it wasn't enough. The pain and darkness became too much.

Everything after is just a blur. My heart hurts every day. Never have I loved a man as much as I love(d) Justin.

It's been a little over a year now. I'm still on my healing journey. I miss him every day. Every minute. He was a good one.

If you are the praying kind of human, maybe pray for me. If you are not, send some positive vibes and strength my way.

I want to start using this blog, my little safe space on the internet, more often again. If you are still here, THANK YOU. And it can only go UP from here on out.

I've been working remotely since March 17th 2020, and I feel blessed and lucky to have a profession and work a job that makes it possible to get my projects done from anywhere in the world - granted I have my laptop and a stable internet connection.

A study and initiative from Sweden makes me kind of jealous though. Don't get me wrong, my back porch or local coffee shop in southern Arkansas is fine and dandy, but can it really compete with the landscape and temperatures in Sweden?

Sweden’s New Initiative ‘Out of Office Office’ Offers Remote Workers Offices in Nature

Sweden now encourages workers to bag-check their remote setup and have an unforgettable workcation in accommodations close to nature without compromising on internet connectivity. In a newly conducted case study, well-being increased by 22% as participants felt less depressed and more calm, harmonious and happy when working and living close to nature. Through the Out of Office Office initiative, Sweden hopes to boost workers’ mental health in a time where remote working increasingly is taking a toll on many people’s well-being.

Swedish researchers have investigated the benefits of the new popular workcation travel trend, which combines work with vacation. The study stretched two weeks and included five persons who were monitored when working from their usual home office for one week and then at an accommodation close to nature, just outside the capital of Stockholm, for another week. Aside from showing that mental health and well-being increased by 22% as participants felt less depressed and more calm, harmonious and happy, the study also found that perceived stress decreased by 48% among the participants after the week spent in nature. Sleep quality also improved; the participants fell asleep 51% faster and had a better quality of sleep with longer periods of uninterrupted sleep when working from their nature offices.

The study was performed to illustrate the previous scientific findings by both Swedish and other international research organizations that show that exposure to the natural environment is beneficial in many ways for overall health. It was conducted in collaboration with researchers from Sweden’s single largest center for medical academic research and one of the world’s foremost medical universities – Karolinska Institutet. “We are excited about the positive results from this case study, which shows the possible implications nature can have on our work life. Even though we should be careful to draw too big conclusions from the study, the results are in line with previous research and clearly indicate the positive impact nature can have on our wellbeing,” says Mare Löhmus Sundström, Associate Professor and Affiliated Researcher at Institute of Environmental Medicine at Karolinska Institutet.

Facts From the Case Study

According to the results, there are clear signs that the study participants feel mentally better during the experiment period than during the working week before.
The participants perceived stress decreased by 48% while cognitive stress decreased by 50%.
Well-being increased by 22% as the participants felt less depressed and more calm, harmonious and happy.
Overall vitality increased by 27% as participants felt more alert, energetic and strong.
The participants slept more efficient. Participants fell asleep 51% faster and each sleep bout (contiguous period of sleep) lasted in average 23% longer.
Significant decrease of depressive symptoms (such as inertia, general concern and lack of interest) with 44%.

ABOUT THE STUDY
The research study was conducted over two weeks, between between May 30 to June 13 and included five participants. The participants were between 20 to 35 years old and had jobs that allowed them to work remotely at the time of the study. The study used a combination of quantitative methods in order to investigate the participant’s health, sleeping patterns, and physical activity. During the study participants wore specific equipment in form of MotionWatch8 (CamNtech Ltd, UK), which recorded their movements every 15 seconds and also collected sleep parameters. Participants, themselves, measured blood pressure each morning and evening using an automatic blood pressure monitor. At two occasions the participants also filled in several short forms of different self-assessment test where the status of their current well-being was examined.

Travel Tuesday: Dishing Through Setouchi Japan’s Distinctive Dining Scene

On today's Travel Tuesday I'm taking you back to Japan's Setouchi Island region. While last week's post was focussed on wellness, today we will dive into the culinary scene.

When one thinks of Japan’s Setouchi Islands region, visions of pristine beaches, sparkling blue waters and a thriving art scene might spring to mind. However, this peaceful, authentic region of Japan, which spans fully 700 islands and seven prefectures surrounding the Seto Inland Sea, also boasts a diverse climate that yields some ancient—and even delightfully quirky—culinary experiences.

When visiting this fascinating country, be sure to titillate your taste buds with a serving of “hidden sushi.” While visually simple at first blush, turn the so-called “Bara Sushi” dish upside down to reveal a hidden underbelly rife with gorgeous ingredients. The roots of this unique sushi presentation reportedly date back to the lords of Okada during the Edo era, when extravagance was banned. To circumvent prying eyes, people placed their fillings at the bottom of the bowl and then added a rice topper. This way, when in public, it seemed as if they were only eating a modest rice dish when, in fact, they were enjoying a sushi extravaganza—turning the plate over only if the seafood mélange therein wouldn’t be observed.

Next you’d fare well to hop into an “Udon Taxi,” which will usher you around town to delight in this traditional Japanese noodle served in various iterations from one eatery to another. Udon is celebrated in the Kagawa Prefecture in particular, where there are more Udon shops than convenience stores. The area’s affection for Udon draws throngs of tourists to these shops, often prompting long lines of noodle aficionados patiently waiting to experience this esteemed locavore victual. I’m told that only select drivers who pass special tests earn the classification of an Udon Taxi, and they certainly have an inside track on the very best haunts.

For those with a sweet tooth, stick your pearly whites into some Kibi Dango dumpling. Traditionally found in the Okayama prefecture, this is a traditional Japanese confectionery made by rolling, steaming or boiling grain flour with water. So scrumptious is this morsel, historical lore cites this delicious dumpling as having been a shrine offering to the resident deitiy.

And, no foodie frolic in Japan is complete without some serious sake. From the end of the Edo period, sake brewing was difficult due to the area’s soft water but, with the advent of a method in the Meiji era, the Japanese sake brewing industry flourished. Today, the Hiroshima prefecture is home to several famed sake breweries where you can sip, shoot and savor to your heart’s content.

These offer just a small glimpse into what makes the Setouchi Islands such a fantastic destination for gastro-travelers. With a food culture intertwined with historical traditions and origins, this region is replete with tasty treasures beckoning to be devoured.

Traveling to Japan is definitely on my bucket list. I'm a huge fan of Sharla from Sharmeleon/Sharla in Japan, Chris from Abroad in Japan (sliiiight crush on him. thanks British accent), and of course Norm form Tokyo Lens. Experiencing this beautiful country through their eyes/lenses gives me a bad case of Wanderlust.

Last week Japan's Setouchi region was brought to my attention, and I love what I see! Even though I sadly haven't visited there myself yet, I want to share it with you.

In the summer of the 2002, when Korea is abuzz with the Korea-Japan FIFA World Cup, a beautiful nineteen-year-old girl named Hae-on is murdered in what would become known as the ‘High School Beauty Murder’. There are two suspects: a rich boy Shin Jeongjun, whose car Hae-on was last seen in, and a working class delivery boy, Han Manu, who witnesses Hae-on in the passenger seat of Jeongjun’s car just a few hours before her death.

The novel begins with a scene in which Hae-on’s younger sister, Da-on, imagines a police detective interrogating Han Manu. When no evidence can be pinned on Manu and Jeongjun’s alibi turns out to be solid, the identity of the murderer is left unsolved. The case remains a mystery for years, throwing those surrounding the event into turmoil, especially Da-on, who is unable to move on with her life following her sister’s disappearance and murder. ...read more In the course of the next seventeen years Da-on, undergoes plastic surgery to appear more like her sister and grants her own daughter a name similar to her sister’s, ultimately setting out to discover the truth of what happened, all in hopes that she will recover some of what she has lost.

LEMON is told at different points in time from three different alternating female perspectives: Da-on, Hae-on’s younger sister; Tae-rim, Hae-on’s classmate who harbored a jealousy of her; and Sanghui, another classmate of Hae-on’s, also connected to Da-on.

An intoxicating novel addressing issues of class and womanhood, LEMON loosely follows the structure of a detective novel. But finding the perpetrator is not the main objective here. Instead, LEMON deconstructs the relationship between the super-rich and the children of the working class who live side by side in the early 21 century, femininity, through three distinct points of view, and raises important questions about guilt, retribution, and the meaning of death and life.

LEMON by award-winning Korean author Kwon Yeo-sun (Other Press Hardcover; On-Sale: 10/12/2021; ISBN: 978163542-088-3) deftly explores grief and trauma, class and privilege, and I have such faith in the power of Yeo-sun’s boundary-pushing insight and writing. This novella was originally published as a short story in 2016 for the 50th anniversary issue of Changjak and Bipyeong under the title “You Do Not Know,” which was also adapted into a play of the same title. It was later revised and expanded to become LEMON. Sure to resonate with readers of Han Kang's The Vegetarian and Human Acts and those who loved Bong Joon-Ho's Oscar-winning film ‘Parasite’; this piercing psychological portrait that takes the shape of a crime novel, follows a woman haunted by her sister’s unsolved murder and the transformation she undergoes in order to cope with the pain of absence and unknowing.

Lockdowns, isolation, and working from home have caused elevated levels of stress for many people: 45% of Americans say they experience anxiety because of the pandemic, according to a UN report. The positive effects were tested through Visit Sweden’s very own initiative, “The 72-Hour Cabin,” with participants from major cities who had demanding jobs. They were examined before and after spending three consecutive days in the Swedish countryside where they slept in glass cabins next to water. The study proved that being outdoors surrounded only by nature dramatically reduced negative emotions and lowered stress levels.

In Sweden, 70% of the country is covered with forest, and nature is easy to reach, with open fields and meadows, old-growth forests, quiet lakes, miles of coastlines, and thousands of islands. Swedes have a unique Freedom to Roam, The Right of Public Access (‘Allemansrätt’), which maintains that everyone has the right to walk, cycle, ride, ski and camp on any land. It is no wonder Swedes maintain an unusually close relationship to nature and draw from the healing power of spending time outside. “Natural environments are an important resource for meeting the health challenges in our society. Research shows that time spent outdoors reduces negative emotions and stress, and promotes positive emotions, mental recovery, and performance,” says Cecilia Stenfors, a researcher at the Aging Research Center at Karolinska Institutet, Sweden, and the University of Chicago, USA.
