AHSN Network Health and Care Innovation Expo

Back in September I completed work on an A5, 28pp programme for The AHSN Network’s presence at this years’ Health and Care Innovation Expo. This year the Expo took place on the 5 and 6 September in Manchester and is a key annual NHS event.

There were speeches by NHS Chief Executive Simon Stevens and new Secretary of State for Health and Social Care Matt Hancock.

Their main exhibition area was the ‘AHSN Innovator Zone’ and featured a series of displays, presentations and mini-theatres.

Manna: Summer 2018 Issue

I have recently designed the Summer '18 issue of Manna magazine. This is an A4 quarterly publication regularly produced for the Diocese of Bath and Wells.

Here are Editor Louise Willmot's thoughts on the latest issue; “‘The spirit of Zambia will live in my heart forever’, was the response of one of the parishioners who took part in the Live Learn Link visit to Zambia earlier this year. As we mark our 40 years’ ‘walking together in mission’, this issue of Manna seeks to share some of that spirit and joy.

“Bishop Peter was certainly feeling the joy of the visit when he spoke at the service of celebration at the Cathedral of the Holy Cross in Lusaka about the blessings of the link. The importance of the link was clear to those people we spoke to from Zambia and the churches and schools in the diocese.

“Everyone who travelled to Zambia as part of the Live Learn Link has talked of its impact and we hear from two members of the group who benefited from the visit in very different ways.

“In our interview, The Very Revd Charley Thomas, Dean of the Cathedral of the Holy Cross, Lusaka, shares his unique perspective on his home country and the diocese in which he undertook his curacy.

“With such joy in evidence, here’s to the next 40 years!”

AHSN Network Exhibition Stand and Impact Report for NHS Confed 2018

In May I had the pleasure of working on the AHSN Network’s exhibition stand and impact report for their stand at this year’s NHS Confederation event that took place on 13th and 14th June in Manchester.

The annual conference and exhibition is a unique experience where health and social care leaders can face shared challenges, find practical solutions, celebrate past successes and shape future ones.

The report and stand were designed to grab the attention of those attending and engage the viewer with the areas the Network affect. The AHSN Network brings together the 15 Academic Health Science Networks in England to support improvements around common themes such as patient safety.

As the only bodies that connect NHS and academic organisations, local authorities, the third sector and industry, they are catalysts that create the right conditions to facilitate change across whole health and social care economies, with a clear focus on improving outcomes for patients.

Manna: Spring 2018 Issue

I have recently designed the Spring '18 issue of Manna magazine. This is an A4 quarterly publication regularly produced for the Diocese of Bath and Wells.

Here are Editor Louise Willmot's thoughts on the latest issue; “‘Church attendance is falling!’ is a familiar headline, but in this issue of Manna we look beyond the headlines and explore how the church is responding to our changing culture in exciting and creative new ways. Jonny Baker, who leads Church Mission Society pioneer training, is energised by the creative possibilities and he is not alone, as you will find out in our feature ‘On the pioneering path’, where we hear from people from our diocese who, in various ways, are doing church differently.

“We also hear from diocesan Evangelism Team Leader, Tina Hodgett, who explains Fresh Expressions and asks, ‘what is church?’ That is a question we posed when we talked to others across the diocese and you can read their stories, in My Church is..., throughout this issue.

“It is a picture of church that differs greatly from the church that Dr Colin Green, who leads the MA in Theology, Imagination and Culture at Sarum College, joined in the 1960s, but is it a church for our time?”

I have recently completed work on issue 8 of A1 magazine, people, places & lifestyle for Fenton and Gregory. This is an A4, quarterly publication regularly designed by myself and available digitally via Issuu.

Created by publisher Derek Gregory this issue focusses on people who work in, and operate artisan businesses. It's a fascinating read with some really interesting stories from a diverse range of businesses. Also, featured on the cover are Anthony and Eleanor Wardle from the Fresh: Art Fair which is taking place at Cheltenham Racecourse between 27-29 April 2018; this is an event that comes highly recommended.

Zambia Link Leaflet

I have recently completed work on a Zambia Link leaflet for the Diocese of Bath and Wells. This is an A5, 6 page leaflet to help promote the events taking place this Spring and Summer which celebrate the 40th Anniversary of the Bath and Wells - Zambia Link.

Since 1978, parishes in Bath and Wells and Zambia have supported each other to live and tell the story of Jesus in their communities. Churches have developed and shared companion links as a focus for prayer, mission and spiritual growth. The programme is nationally recognised and it has been influential in shaping the Church of England’s approach to world mission.

I have recently designed the Winter '18 issue of Manna magazine. This is an A4 quarterly publication regularly produced for the Diocese of Bath and Wells.

Here are Editor Louise Willmot's thoughts on the latest issue; “Conflict is impossible to avoid in life, but how do we keep that conflict civil and even constructive – and what can we do when it spirals out of control?

“Brendan Cox, husband of Jo Cox MP who was killed in 2015, knows the personal cost of destructive disagreements. He talks of the need to come together ahead of this year’s ‘Great Get Together’. The Very Revd Dr John Davies, Dean of Wells, also references the importance of community, along with learning, in his interview.

“Whether you are struggling to deal with a conflict situation at home, school, work or church it is good to know there is always someone who can help – you can hear from three of them in our ‘Making peace’ feature. Peace is something that Ecumenical Accompanier, Anne Plested who has recently returned from the Palestinian territory of the West Bank, prays for. She shares her faith story on page 10.

“We hear some personal perspectives from two of our clergy on the ordination of women and human sexuality, while Simon Keyes, Professor of Reconciliation and Peacebuilding at the University of Winchester, asks us to reflect on good and bad disagreement.”

Sunrise Foundation Logo Design

I have recently completed work on a logo for the local charity Sunrise Foundation CIO. The logo design reflects the approach and positive impact the charity aims to have on those that it supports.

The Sunrise Foundation supports the work of charities working with disabled and/or disadvantaged children and adults. They thoroughly investigate any organisations applying for grants, to ensure those grants will make a positive impact on the lives of individuals who face a wide range of challenging and often distressing difficulties in their daily lives. Artwork for West of England AHSN Annual Conference 2017

I have recently produced a pull-up banner, A4 poster and A5 leaflet for the West of England AHSN Annual Conference 2017 which took place on 30th November 2017. Entitled 'Navigating the healthcare innovation landscape' the material explores the role of innovation exchanges in developing relationships between industry and health communities.

This year the annual conference focused on what the WEAHSN has learned about transformation as a healthcare community here in the West of England, and what they might learn from others around the country.

The keynote speaker for the event was Bill Lucas, Director of the Centre for Real-World Learning and Professor of Learning at the University of Winchester, an authority on practical and vocational learning and has undertaken ground-breaking research into pedagogy, creativity and habit change.

Gift Membership Poster

I have recently designed this Gift Membership poster for the Friends of the University of Bristol Botanic Garden. This was originally designed for the quarterly A5 Newsletter that I regularly produce and has then been adapted for promotional use.

The garden is beautiful and well worth a visit. It is filled with a huge diversity of plants, including many exotic species set in inspirational displays against the backdrop of a striking Victorian house. The huge garden has been designed to tell stories about plant evolution and is home to various plant collections.

Gift membership would make a perfect Christmas present for any green fingered relatives!

I have recently designed the Autumn '17 issue of Manna magazine. This is an A4 quarterly publication regularly produced for the Diocese of Bath and Wells.

Here are Editor Louise Willmot's thoughts on the latest issue; “‘What in the world are you worried about?’ Where to begin you may say, with recent world events. So how can we sustain ourselves when things look bleak? For The Right Revd David Walker, Bishop of Manchester, who reflects on his city’s response to a tragic act of terrorism, love is most definitely the answer.

“Thankfully, those of us directly affected by such terrible acts as that visited on Manchester are rare. Financial worries, health concerns and family matters are much more common to us all. In this edition of Manna we talk to people in our diocese living with and giving hope in some challenging circumstances and we also gain an insight into what is worrying our young people and how we can help them.

“‘Where is God in all this?’ is a common refrain when things are tough, whether in the media or perhaps from someone you know. Dr Tim Davy, research fellow at Redcliffe College, shares his insight into the Book of Job to help us reflect on that question, while Rural Affairs Adviser Rob Walrond and The Revd Joy Hawes share their feelings of hope as they talk about their faith and their work.”

40th Anniversary Zambia Logo for the Diocese of Bath and Wells

I have recently created a new logo design for the Diocese of Bath and Wells to mark the 40th anniversary of its companion link with dioceses in Zambia.

Inspired by the wonderful chitenge designs from the country, the design is vibrant and fun in nature. There’s an obvious link to the church with the use of the cross and I’ve used the colours from the Zambia flag in a subtle way.

Here’s more about the upcoming celebrations from the latest issue of Manna magazine “Parishes in Bath and Wells and Zambia have supported each other to live and tell the story of Jesus in their communities since 1978.

“The Diocese will be celebrating this milestone with a programme of thanksgiving and celebration in 2018. Events will begin in Zambia in April with ‘Live the Link’ which will see a group of Bath and Wells’ folk visit Zambia on an immersive, educational experience. Special services will be held in the five Zambian dioceses and our Bishops will visit Zambia to give thanks for the partnership and be welcomed to a national celebration on 29 April. In Bath and Wells, celebrations are planned for July, including a service at Wells Cathedral on Saturday 14 July and a tour of link parishes by our Zambian bishops. The programme culminates with a summer youth exchange in August.”

Digital Art of the Possible Promotional Material for West of England AHSN

I have recently produced the promotional material for the Digital Art of the Possible (#DAP2) conference that took place at Ashton Gate, Bristol on Wednesday 4th October. This involved designing the event brochure, delegate folder, pull-up banners and floor plan.

As the WEAHSN explain “Our second Digital Art of the Possible event draws on our experiences and learnings to date and brings you not only an exhibition hall packed with digital innovations aligned to your STP priority needs, but also a series of interactive workshops, demonstrations and group discussions which will guide you as to best way to evaluate digital healthcare innovations and accelerate their adoption into practice.

“We will also be hosting a dedicated afternoon work space bringing together a range of stakeholders who will contribute to the design of a digital evaluation framework which will provide structure to answer the questions of value and approach (and more!), thus smoothing the passage of innovation to implementation.”

I have recently completed the Autumn 2017 issue of the Friends' Newsletter for the University of Bristol Botanic Garden. This is an A5, 32 page, quarterly publication regularly designed by myself.

Here are the Editors comments from the latest issue: “How quickly the seasons change! And this year our seasons seem to be rather more changeable than usual but the stoic Brits cope whatever happens even if it is a major topic of conversation.

“In the Botanic Garden so far this year there have been a number of very successful events and there are still to come. The summer exhibition has been on since late July and is evoking a tremendous interest, and the annual Bee and Pollination Festival is as usual on the first weekend in September. We do hope that the concert on the Downs will not stop our visitors attending as great efforts have been made to ensure there are no problems with parking.

“Please enjoy reading this issue and we look forward to seeing you at all the activities that are taking place over the next few months.”

I have recently designed the Summer '17 issue of Manna magazine for the Diocese of Bath and Wells. Manna is an A4 quarterly, with this issue extended to 28 pages due to the 4 page Annual Review insert. This included a full page infographic on page 16.

Here are Editor Louise Willmot's thoughts on the latest issue; “It can be hard to recognise our own personal gifts, indeed more than one interviewee for this issue expressed concern that they did not have a gift worthy of talking about. I hope you will join me in disagreeing with them and find many stories to inspire you to consider what your personal gifts are and how you can release them.

“As James Cary points out in our opening article, being witnesses to the Gospel of Jesus Christ is something we need to do together ̶ in the workplace, in the home and society at large. James was reflecting on the message he took away from the presentation on the ‘Setting God’s People Free’ report at General Synod and you can find out more about that in our interview with one of its authors, Alison Coulter.

“If you find yourself mulling over your gifts as you sit sipping something cold in the (hopefully) warm summer sunshine, you may like to consider your next steps in your personal journey. We’ve also included a few ideas to help you do that.

“And just as 98 per cent of the Church of England is laity, so is the balance of contributions to this issue of Manna. As Alison says, it is the small things that will add up to make a difference. Just think what we can achieve.”

I have recently completed work on this Bath Half Marathon 2018 Poster for SWALLOW Charity based in Midsomer Norton. The client wanted a colourful and eye catching design to help encourage runners to support the charity.

SWALLOW is a charity led by its members, teenagers and adults with learning disabilities. They respond to individual needs by providing flexible support.

Way Out West - Annual Review Magazine

I have recently completed work on the Way Out West Annual Review for the West of England Academic Health Science Network. This is an A4, 36 page publication designed by myself.

The client wanted to move away from a traditional Annual Report style which can in some cases be a little on the dull side. They wanted an interesting, engaging document that people would want to pick up and keep for future reference.

The report was given a magazine style to provide a more stimulating document for the reader. This allowed greater flexibility with a clean and creative style flowing throughout. A number of illustrations and graphical devices have been used with emphasis on creating an engaging publication for the reader.

I have recently completed the Summer 2017 issue of the Friends' Newsletter for the University of Bristol Botanic Garden. This is an A5, 32 page, quarterly publication regularly designed by myself.

Here are the Editors comments from the latest issue: “A short welcome from the editorial team this time to allow room for details of this summer’s exciting exhibition by Pamela Martin and Peter Chatwin. An example of their fascinating work is on the front cover and the exhibition will be free to all visitors throughout the main summer season.

“This summer there are so many events and activities for all the family, of which we have included only a taste as more details will be available after this issue goes to print. Please check the Garden website and other publicity for more information.”

I have also designed the publicity material for this years Jazz in the Garden event that is taking place on Saturday 29 July at the  Botanic Garden. The Blue Notes with Hannah Wedlock are performing and the poster designed for the event is below.

I have recently completed work on the Spring '17 issue of Manna magazine for the Diocese of Bath and Wells. Manna is an A4 quarterly, 24 page publication designed by myself.

Here are Editor Louise Willmot's thoughts on the latest issue; “‘Let us pray’. Such a simple phrase and one that is so familiar to us, but how many of us stop to consider why we pray or why it’s important. How many of us think about how we pray?

“The question of why we pray is addressed in this issue by Emma Buchan, Project Leader for Thy Kingdom Come and explored further in our feature article, ‘The Importance of Prayer’. If you are still praying the way you were taught at school or Sunday school, do take a look at our article ‘Getting the Prayer Habit,’ which looks at fun ways children are being encouraged to pray. It just may inspire you. In this issue we also hear from individuals who have already been inspired. Daniel Berry and Sister Alison Fry give us a glimpse into their lives of prayer and Pete Greig, who discusses his new book Dirty Glory and the ‘accidental’ spread of 24-7 prayer, the global movement he started.

“Prayer has been a wonderful subject to explore for my first edition of Manna, and I hope we have answered some of the questions you may have about prayer.

“There were many other aspects of prayer we would have loved to have covered if we could, such as Christian meditation and also the effect of prayer on the brain. Perhaps another time...?”

I have recently completed the Spring 2017 issue of the Friends' Newsletter for the University of Bristol Botanic Garden. This is an A5, 32 page, quarterly publication regularly designed by myself.

Here are the Editors comments from the latest issue: “Every gardener knows that the dark days of winter are there to provide a little respite from the work outside; a time to reflect on the successes and failures of the season just gone and to look forward to the next. A time to look through the seed catalogues and plan what to do as soon as the days are longer. Regardless of how bad the winter weather is, eventually the spring flowers start appearing which gives us all new hope.

“The new season is just starting and as reliably as the spring the Botanic Garden will open its gates wide again to welcome everyone back and celebrate with the fantastic Sculpture Festival at Easter. We hope you will enjoy reading this issue and look forward to the warmer weather.”

This year the Sculpture Festival takes place from Good Friday 14th April to Easter Monday 17 April, 10am to 5pm and is highly recommended.

I have recently completed work on the Winter '17 issue of Manna magazine for the Diocese of Bath & Wells. Manna is an A4 quarterly, 24 page publication designed by Graphic Bubble.

Here are Editor Sam Ford's thoughts on the latest issue; “What’s the story? What’s your story? Countless circumstances, people, places and events go into forming who we are. If we trust in a God who’s the source of it all then every single bit of it is immeasurably important. But not as important as the story to come – the story we get to write ourselves. Helping tell the story of the diocese as I’ve been here on maternity cover has been hugely exciting. God is at work in everything at the most complex level and soaks it in glory. Having eyes of faith to see that is one of the challenges we face. The face of Christ is in everyone we meet so the challenge is how to be Christ and to reveal Christ to those people. All things are caught up in the story of Christ but it’s through that Gospel story that we know the story goes on, that there is one story of us all. The Church is a choral harmony of difference and individuality. It echoes in the cathedral of the universe to the glory of its redeemer. We are one in the one we call Lord.”

I have recently completed the Winter 2016 issue of the Friends' Newsletter for the University of Bristol Botanic Garden. This is an A5, 32 page, quarterly publication regularly designed by myself.

Here are the Editors comments from the latest issue: “Another busy and successful year at the Botanic Garden. We do hope you enjoy reading about all the events both past and future in this newsletter and would like to thank all those who have supported the Friends and the Garden this year.

“Many people who come to the Garden for the first time are very impressed and sometimes surprised at what they see. This publication is one way of letting everyone know what is going on and adds to all the publicity in the local press and radio which spreads the word and ensures we have a good attendance at special events and regularly throughout the year.

“This year there have been over 15,000 visitors – a fantastic achievement for a new garden and a testament to all the hard work by Nick Wray and the staff and volunteers.

“Thank you to all of you for your support and we do hope you enjoy this issue.”
