Hitchcock

2009-03-24T13:43:00.000-07:00

Poster for Casting a Shadow – Creating the Alfred Hitchcock Film,
about the director and his collaborators.

Justus Oehler and his team continue to design for the Deutsche
Kinemathek – Museum für Film und Fernsehen in Berlin. Their latest
projects for the museum include the design of promotional campaigns for Casting
a Shadow – Creating the Alfred Hitchcock Film, a major exhibition about
Hitchcock and his creative collaborators, and for two programs presented in
conjunction with the Berlin International Film Festival: 70mm – Bigger than Life, a
retrospective of movies presented in the 70mm format; and Winter adé, or After Winter Comes Spring – Films
Presaging the Fall of the Wall, a special series that will screen films
produced in the GDR and Eastern European countries in
the 1980s, just before the collapse of the Soviet Union and the reunification of
Germany. The series will travel to theaters across Germany to mark the 20th
anniversary of the fall of the Wall.

Oehler and his team previously designed the museum’s identity
and campaigns
for several exhibitions.

The 70mm and Winter adé posters after the jump.

absolutely fantastic. i love the animated S just through paper. its clever that v is then reflected for w and the movement for the x to the y transition is also brilliant.

Type Cut

2008-12-02T14:05:00.000-08:00

Who says you need a pencil or a mouse to create type, even need to make a mark on a sheet, screen to create a positive mark or negative for that matter. what a wonderful idea, executed so well.

An interview with Austrian artist BUSK on LetterCult:

so good.

Crime Lettering

2008-11-26T15:00:00.000-08:00

Love the slender stemmed lettering and the ever so thin leading, barely any kerning except with FICTION all kept in this great square, connected lettering white box and still room to place 2008 at the 'arrow' of the M.

The sharpe thin lettering emphasises the sharp, precision, calculated knife stabbing crime death, and this great square box also empahsising the claculated geometry.

all offset with the powerful shocking uncontrolled shape of a splat/stab of blood, with a nice bit of negative space of blood.

top half busy / bottom half spacey balanced

i sound arts / fartsy i know but god i liked this layout and the fantastic type empahsising crime.

Geometric Type

2008-11-22T08:58:00.000-08:00

A brief, though excellent little article, Making
geometric type work:

Attempting to apply exactly the same set of
rules to each letter is similar to handing out the same size clothes to a random
selection of adults. Some will have excess baggy sleeves, others will be skin
tight, and some will barely squeeze over their heads.

Hockney Photomontage Program ICE

2008-11-08T08:55:00.000-08:00

This great free program lets you automatically composite shots/images, ICE (image composite editor) taken in the hockney style arrangement montage. saves you a lot of time trying to make them in photoshop with 30+ layers.

its only 3mb, handy little piece if software.

lets you easily save as jpeg, or a higher quality tiff.

great use of type, as people, as they are seated, and as a t & f rotated.

love the peeping tom of travel.

really good collage of silhouettes and great & letter, almost like a quaver note itself reflecting the content of sound and vision. good colours like this site of pink, red, black, white. prob where I got the idea for the combination, maybe be flickr too, it is where I got the #FF0084 (the pink).

saw it in mac user. some more great illuminated lettering. inspired my wam bam thankyou mam.

had to comment on this one as well, love it, clean, centered, balanced (top right, bottom left), brilliant orange blue, pondering look/posture and thus great shadow sort of showing the diagonal split balancing either side.

sound like an art critic but had to say it cos it all looks great and works.
