"Grass-fed eggs" are eggs from happy outdoor chickens with access to green growing plants. The eggs taste better and are more nutritious, and the hens have a lifestyle that may be superior to our own! This newsgroup is for both consumers and producers. We have a scalder we made -- a 55 gallon drum cut off at 2 1/2 feet with
about 6000 watts of hot water heater elements in the bottom. We use a
Ranco adjustable thermostat that we can set with a temperature of 148
degrees F and variable differential that we set at 2 degrees (it turns off
at 148 degrees, and the water cools only to 146 degrees before it turns

 Hi Group,
It is that time of year for turkey dinners and pumpkin pie. I
have three large tom turkeys this year and it is about time to process
them. I have been is discussions on here before about how to process
chickens and it was FANTASTIC advice. I had never had such an easy
time plucking a chicken before your advice. I'm wondering if you have

We raise Red Rangers from S & G Poultry in Alabama. We're only doing a
hundred a year now .. raise them to 11 or 12 weeks. We used to raise 6
batches of 400 a year of CornishX. They won't have the flavor that Tracy's
have, but they are tender -- i.e., a little chewy but definitely not tough.
We like them a little chewy and (i'm told) Asians like them a lot chewier

 Hello--
I have five chickens just starting to lay, and I want to use the deep
layer litter method in their coop. My husband is not convinced it can
be done in a small coop--it measures about 4 x 5 feet and is not tall
enough to walk in. Will it work in that small a space?
Thanks
Dodi

While I enjoy the taste of the meatbirds raised in my backyard, my TMJ is
not doing well with how tough they are. I've tried cornishX and freedom
rangers. They are all being raised by a laying hen that insists on their
foraging and running around the yard, so even the cornishX at 7 weeks are
waddling all over the place. I've tried different butchering processes-

 Robert...
I was grazing the net, and I found your Poultry Pages on Chicken feed.
Excellent piece.
It was so clear that even I got interested.
...and I don't see a live chicken more than once a week.
(The lady behind me has a wood plank fence, so I can't see her yard birds.)
I really like the way you peel off the nonsense and outline practical ways to achieve the goals...

Even same-day fresh easy peel secret, shells just slide off as if they were
a month old. Simply put ¼-1/2 tsp baking soda in the water with the eggs.
It alkalizes the water, causing that inner membrane to stick to the shell
rather than the whites. You’ll never gripe about peeling eggs again- I
promise!!!

Here's a great website about boiling eggs:
<[link]>
[link]
Another suggestion is to put baking soda in the cold water to raise the ph
level. Hi Everyone, My wife has been boiling eggs for me for 34 years and never
had a problem. Now I have been giving her fresh eggs for over a year and
they are great. But when she boils them over half does not peel so well and
she is getting tired of trying. I really love my pickled eggs. What can we
do to help her out?

i raised 25 guineas - but I raised them with the chickens. Now they
won't leave the coop, go around and eat bugs, they just stay inside
the coop and run while the chickens range free. Are my guineas
demented? Any suggestionss? I am a former Lyme victim and I want them
to eat ticks!
