No but once you are right on track, you will surely be able to rem. hundreds' of words in seconds.

Follow the strategy if you want to see the results.

Here is the TRICK: Try to relate the word, its pronunciation with the words you already know. Then for the words you are having no clue at all. I will share my technique for that.

Ex:

Take the word "Apothecary"

Mnemonic trick: Try to visualize a person carrying a pot. And he sells drugs(medicines) door-to-door. :) . Simple isn't it????

Hmm... You can try these on your own. Since the mnemonic you make will be easy to remember for you for a long time.

Take another ex:

Take the word "Chicanery"

Mnemonic trick: Chick(used for hot girls) so chicks try to deceit the young males by their gullible and malevolent acts.

Ok, if you have just started don't get confused with the intermediate words. Since, once you know these words you tend to use them often. YOU WOULD LOVE TO DO THAT. \m/. YEOMAN

Should i give GRE before August or should i give it in new pattern???

That's a million dollar question. Not really?? It's is because you have many benefits of giving the exam beforehand.

It could prove a benefit for you and your future. Let me put it concisely...

I' feeling lucky ...:p

> Just the first 10-15 questions and you are done( Go through the Barron's GRE CAT if u can't get this point)
> Most previous year questions with solutions are available on blog with the discussion

Just to put forward that one has lots of resources available on net and for free to study. So, it would save your money. Just for the sake of knowing the tactics and pattern of how to appear in GRE, one has to spend a lot of money.

So, here is my pick, if you have ever prepared for GRE old pattern and have a bit of confidence that with in one month or so, you would be able to crack it, means if you are not aiming much high score. Since, i am a mediocre student, i always feel comfortable talking and writing about the way i am. So, i think you should give it a try. GIVE IT A TRY...

So is the score acceptable after new pattern test is available ?

Yes, since GRE is a STANDARD test. One can't deny its score for its valid period and that's for sure.

So how is the score gonna be mapped/ compared with the new score?

Since, the new GRE would take some time to get its bank for comparatively score the student. It would take 2-3 months to disclose the result for the new pattern.
And that's could be one of the reason's y its offering u the discount on new pattern :D

Ok, suppose you agreed with me and now you are enthusiastic to give the GRE. What should i do.

For verbal :

Learn by heart .. the Kaplan Verbal book for GRE.
Nova for Quantitative section.
Princeton word smart for verbal.

So, i am done with the preparation what test should i take and how to calculate your probable score on that?

You should give the Cambridge series first. Complete at least 6-7 full length tests on that and then see the graph of your score.
Cambridge is the most easy one in the league of mock test series available.
Do remember, powerprep should be given at the last. And the score you got in that, could exactly define how u will score in the exam.

Trick no. 1

Watch English movies with subtitles.

By English mean, decent movies that uses proper words and in its proper context. And not those movies that simply put a single word 'Fcuk' for any nasty situation.

The movie that allowed to grasp the meaning time before i started preparing for GRE. I watched the movie 'Mr. Woodcock', it used the words "rhetoric" again and again and in many contexts. I simply understood the word and it's proper usage.

Same Indian Story

Being an engineer... i was confident about the Quantitative part.

So i tried to focus totally on the verbal part firstly. I joined an institute for practice tests so as to improve my verbal score by giving regular exams. I didn't managed to join the regular classes of the GRE preparation. Since, i was working and on weekends i don't want to sit in front of the TV seeing the tutor pretending to do something XL(extra-large) by helping me to remember the new words in minutes.

I decided that i will make up my own tricks via blogs and the experience of my seniors. I tried to contact them and they encouraged my decision. I would like to share some basic tricks about remembering the words.

I will discuss some trick in my subsequent posts.
