Bank savings accounts grow your money. When
you have money in a bank savings account, your money earns interest. This is a
nice feature. Your bank
savings account pays a rate of return on all the money in the account (your
Annual Percentage Yield). That means that you get "paid" for keeping
your money in the account. If you were not going to use the money anyway, then
getting paid a little is better than nothing.

Calculating Annual Percentage Yield (APY) is not as
difficult as you think. Justin Pritchard in his About.com Guide
explains that Annual percentage yield (APY)
is a tool for evaluating how much a deposit earns you. Why would you look at an
account’s APY? This is because it is a standardized way of comparing
investments. Your job as a consumer is to put your money where it will get the
highest APY.

What is APY?

As the name suggests, APY is the yield you earn on a deposit
over a year. It refers to your earnings – how much money you’re making. Because
we all want our money to work for us and grow, it is important to get a good
APY from the bank.

What is Unique About APY?

APY is notable because it takes compounding into account. In
very simple terms, compounding denotes that you are making earnings on your earnings. This means that the
quoted APY is telling you how much you’re really making on your money.
Other ways of quoting a rate do not necessarily show you the whole picture.

·
See a Visual Example of Compound Interest

How to Get the Best APY

In general, you’ll find that the APY is higher for more frequent
compounding periods. Ask your financial institution how often they compound. If
your money is compounded daily as opposed to quarterly, you will be able to
earn a better APY.

You can also pump up your own “personal APY”. Justin Pritchard always urges people to look at all of their assets as one. In other
words, don’t think of one Certicificate of Deposit(CD) investment as separate from your
checking/current account – they all go together and should be considered one. Think of yourself as the Chief Financial
Officer of You, Inc.

To pump up your personal APY, find ways to make sure that your
money is compounding as frequently as possible. For instance, If 2 CDs pay the
same interest rate, pick the one that pays out interest most often (monthly
instead of at maturity, for example). Then, you can reinvest your interest
payments and start earning interest on that payment.

How to Calculate APY With Ease

Calculating an investment’s APY can be tricky. If you want to
just find out what an APY is with Excel, here's the function:

=POWER((1+(A1/B1)),B1)-1 where A1 is the Rate and B1 is compounding frequency.

Try pasting this formula into any cell on a spreadsheet (except
A1 or B1). In cell A1 you’ll put the stated
annual interest rate – in
decimal format. For example, if the stated annual rate is 6%, you’ll type “.06”
in cell A1. Then, you put the number
of times you’ll compound each year. For example, for daily compounding you
would enter “365” (or 360 depending on the institution) in cell B1.

In the example used, you will find that the APY is 6.183%. In
other words, if you get 6% annually with daily compounding, your APY = 6.183.
Try changing the compounding frequency and you’ll get an idea of how the APY
changes. For example, you might show quarterly compounding (4 times per year)
or the unfortunate 1 payment per year (which just results in a 6% APY).

The APY Formula

If you like doing math the old fashioned way, here is how to
calculate APY:

In my blog titled ‘simple investment tips’, I explained that after you have gained sufficient knowledge on
investment strategies and determined your risk taking capability based on your
investment goals, various investment options are available in the market on
basis of these goals. One of the options I mentioned is investing for safety
(high liquidity) – like bank deposits, money market mutual funds etc. They are
also referred to as short term
investment options because of their duration which can range between a day
and 12 months.

Here I will discuss briefly investment for safety options with slight
elaboration:

1. Bank savings account

This investment
option is the most common form of investment option. It is used only for
short-term (less than 30 days) surpluses. This investment option is often the
first option people use for investment. , savings accounts offer low interest
(2.5%-4% p.a.), making them only marginally better than closely comparable
options like safe deposit lockers.

A bank savings
account is a type of account designed to simply hold money that you do not need
immediate access to. When contrasted with checking accounts, bank savings accounts
tend to pay a slightly higher rate.

Savings accounts
offer easy access to your cash. In other words, your money is liquid (meaning
you can make a withdrawal easily and quickly) in a bank savings account.

Bank savings accounts grow your money. When
you have money in a bank savings account, your money earns interest. This is a
nice feature. Your bank savings account pays a rate of return on all the money
in the account (your Annual Percentage Yield). That means that you get
"paid" for keeping your money in the account. If you were not going
to use the money anyway, then getting paid a little is better than nothing.

Think about saving £1
per day for thirty days. This will amount to £30 per month. If you save £30
that you do don’t have to spend for another twelve months, which will give you
£360 per year without interest. Assuming the bank decides to pay 2.5% per annum
(i.e for 12 months) on your savings, your £360 would have earned additional
2.5% interest compounded either daily, weekly or monthly. I will explain this
in details in my next blog. The bottom line is when you put your money in banks
savings account; your money earns interest which is the opportunity cost of
putting it into another use elsewhere.

2. Money market funds

According to Ivestopedia , Money Market Funds is ‘an investment fund that holds the objective to earn
interest for shareholders while maintaining a net asset value (NAV) of $1 per
share. Mutual funds, brokerage firms and banks offer these funds. Portfolios
are comprised of short-term (less than one year) securities representing
high-quality, liquid debt and monetary instruments. They explain that its purpose
is to provide investors with a safe place to invest easily accessible
cash-equivalent assets characterized as a low-risk, low-return investment.

Similar to your bank
savings deposit, money market funds take your money and invest it. Then, they
pay a portion of their earnings to you in the form of dividends. Money market
funds usually pay a monthly dividend, but there are some alternatives out
there.

This investment
option offer better returns than savings account without compromising
liquidity. Money market funds are a specialized form of mutual funds that
invest in extremely short-term fixed income instruments such as Treasury Bills and Commercial papers. Unlike most mutual funds, money market funds are
primarily oriented towards protecting your capital and then, aim to maximize
returns.

Money market funds
usually yield better returns than savings accounts, but lower than bank fixed
deposits. There is no investment without risks therefore this investment
options come with some. These include:

The fund is a form of
security. There is no guarantee that that the share price will stay at
amount quoted per share although fund managers attempt to keep the price
constant. High risks mean that the funds return high yield than banks
     savings account.

Money market fund rates are
variable. In other words, you don’t know how much you’ll earn on your
investment next month. The rate could go up or down. If it goes up, that
may be a good thing. However, if it goes down and you earn less than you
expected, you can end up needing more cash.

Money market funds returns
can diminishes over time with inflation. Because money market funds are
considered to be safer than other investments like stocks, long term
average returns on money market funds tends to be less than long term
average returns on riskier investments. However, the strategy of the fund
is to invest on a short term basis.

The best place to
find out about a money market fund is the fund's prospectus. You should always
read one of these before buying any fund, and you can really learn a lot by
reading the prospectus from several different funds. For instance, free information on prospectuses and reports can be found here.

3. Bank fixed deposits

What are the main features of Fixed Deposit
Account?

The main features of
fixed deposit account are as follows:-

The main purpose of fixed
deposit account is to enable the individuals to earn a higher rate of
interest on their surplus funds (extra money).

The amount can be deposited
only once. For further such deposits, separate accounts need to be opened.

A high interest rate is paid

     from bank to bank.

Withdrawals are not allowed.
However, in case of emergency, banks allow to close the fixed account
prior to maturity date. In such cases, the bank deducts 1% (deduction
percentage many vary) from the interest payable as on that date.

The depositor is given a
fixed deposit receipt, which depositor has to produce at the time of
maturity. The deposit can be renewed for a further period.

Guidelines to creating own Forex trading system

There are several things we want to achieve when creating
Forex trading system:

1. Find
entry points as early as possible.

2. Find exit
points securing maximum gains.

3. Avoid
fake entry and exit signals.

If accomplished, these three goals will yield a profitable
trading system.

Charting your way to trading profits
According to Craig Drake, with a grasp of these four basic patterns, you will have a better idea of the direction to trade

REVERSAL
DOUBLE TOP

DOUBLE top and double bottom chart patterns are straightforward to spot and can be seen across a range of different time frames, both in long and short-term charts.

Investment is not an option it is a necessity. People do
investments to meet their financial goals. Everybody has their own personal
financial objectives of life.

Investing is a way of using money to make more money. Investment
purpose mainly centres on financial security since you cannot be assured that
you will be able to work forever, and more people don't want to. It is a way of
making sure that even after retirement you still have a source of income that
will sustain your way of living. There are risky as well as risk-free
investments, and with any investment where risk is involved, you'll either
loose or gain money.

There are many types of investment that you can choose from, and
one example is stock investment. Investing in stocks is preferred by many people
because it may give higher returns much quicker when compared to bonds and real
estate. If you hold a stock for a year or more before you decide to sell it,
instead of paying your standard rate, you'll only be taxed 15% which is a long
term capital gains rate. It is also easy to diversify provided that you invest
in a variety of stocks. This way, it will not create a very big impact if only
some of those investments go down.

Know your
risk taking capability from the start

Investment tips are based on assumption that an investor knows his
risk taking capabilities. Let us take an
example; a person earns around $1000 per month and is able to save $300.
Ideally his risk taking capability becomes $300, but it is not always like
this. Out of $300 he has observed that in some months he needs to take around $80
from this savings. Means his risk taking capability is reduced to $220($300-$80).
He has also observed that he needs to keep at least $50 as his cash reserves
(cumulating) each month for contingency. Hence his risk taking capability
becomes $170 ($220-$50). This $170 is that money that even if it gets stolen
(worst case scenario) it will not affect his living standard. Once one knows
this figure ($170), this becomes his ultimate risk taking capability. There are
people for whom this figure is in negative; such people should not venture into
stock market investments. But very often the reverse is true, only such people
(who has no spare money) puts their hard earned money into stock market for
making quick bucks. Therefore, you should understand your risk capacity before deciding on your
investment.

Sources of investment
tips

In fact, you will be amazed that investment tips are obtainable
all around but it takes personal effort and savvy to discover them. Investment tips are available at the
marketplace; the daily news papers, news media, online advisors, banks, post
offices, family, foes and friends alike. With every investment opportunity, it
is up to the individual investor to consider what area of investment and how
best to carry out this activity.

Many useful books are written in a very lucid and simple way so that
even a layman can understand. As a beginner you can start your investment
exercise by studying those books. These books will provide you with fair idea
about stocks, bonds, shares, dividends and all financial aspects which are
important to investing.

For instance, if you are indeed interested to invest in the real
estate sector and earn money, to begin with, you can look out for a job in the
real estate sector. This will provide you with ample insights about the real
estate market. Once you gather sufficient knowledge about the real estate
industry, you can start the humble beginning to invest in the real estate
sector. So, all these tips boil down to a single thing, which is 'education'.
Only proper knowledge about the industry as well as the company, in which you
are investing in, can make you a successful investor. Gaining
knowledge is one of the best ways you can help yourself grow as a person.

If you are to invest in stocks, your stock market fundamentals
must be straight before you start using investment tips via this route. Stock
investment has always been fraught with rumours related to risks involved with
stocks market investments. But it must be understood that risk level in stock
investment is a result of ‘uninformed and unplanned’ decision. However, a good investment strategy will pay returns year after
year. Usually the buy-and-hold, long term strategy
investment, as advised by Warren Buffet may be your best bet. Do not get caught up in the “hot tips”
lifestyle, you cannot afford to get burn, not even once in your lifetime. Buy
stocks with fundamentals, the ones you can hang on to for long term with good
dividend yield. Avoid penny stocks that can give you high percentage of
earnings but with no solid hold. Use your head not your heart whenever
investing is concerned.

Diversify
through investment options

After you
have gained sufficient knowledge on investment strategies and determined your
risk taking capability based on your investment goals, various investment
options are available in the market on basis of these
goals:

Investing for safety (high
liquidity) – like bank deposits, money market mutual funds etc

Investing for income – Companies
deposits, Government Securities (G-sec) and Treasury Bills (T-bills), preferred stocks
     etc

Investing for growth – Domestic and
overseas stocks & equity mutual funds

Investing to fight inflation – Gold,
     residential real estate, bonds etc.

Knowledgeable and well informed investors excel in between the
group of average and mediocre investors simply because they are aware of the
various investments options available at their disposal. Investors can pick
their options depending upon their investment goal with respect to time and
their risk taking capability. Investment options that offer low risk produces
lower returns; and options which can give high returns carries high risk. In other
words, the lower the risks, the lower the returns while higher risks
investments will bring high returns. Different investment options offer various
levels of risk. Investors can choose the investment options of their choice
depending on the level of risks they can take. Investment market of today
provides many investment products like stocks, bonds, fixed deposits,
debentures, gold/silver, real estate etc.

Useful guide to keep in mind is that nobody can eliminate
financial risks completely. The idea is to mitigate these risks. For instance, in my earlier analysis above, if
the investor’s risk taking capability of $170 is available for investment, it should be invested across various
investment products and not one in order to maximize his profit at maturity.
This is what diversification does to mitigate financial risks.

In conclusion, you have to plan an investment strategy so that you
can choose from the available investment options based on your initial goals. Keep
in mind the investment advice set out above. Never invest capital required for
your survival. Invest only that money that you can afford to lose completely.

To your success,

One
of my friend forwarded to me an article written by Jim Rohn titled ‘The Miracle
of Personal Development. It was such a very interesting and thought provoking
piece and I hope you will enjoy it.

One
day my mentor Mr. Shoaff said, “Jim, if you want to be wealthy and happy, learn
this lesson well: Learn to work harder on
yourself than you do on your job.”

Since
that time I’ve been working on my own personal development. And I must admit
that this has been the most challenging assignment of all. This business of
personal development lasts a lifetime.

You
see, what you become is far more important than what you get. The important
question to ask on the job is not, “What am I getting?” Instead, you should
ask, “What am I becoming?” Getting and becoming are like Siamese twins: What
you become directly influences what you get. Think of it this way: Most of what
you have today you have attracted by becoming the person you are today.

I’ve
also found that income rarely exceeds personal development. Sometimes income
takes a lucky jump, but unless you learn to handle the responsibilities that
come with it, it will usually shrink back to the amount you can handle.

If
someone hands you a million dollars, you’d better hurry up and become a
millionaire. A very rich man once said, “If
you took all the money in the world and divided it equally among everybody, it
would soon be back in the same pockets it was before.”

It is
hard to keep that which has not been obtained through personal development.

So
here’s the great axiom of life:

To have more than
you’ve got, become more than you are.

This
is where you should focus most of your attention. Otherwise, you just might
have to contend with the axiom of not changing, which is:

Unless you change how
you are, you’ll always have what you’ve got.

Personal Development

To
attract attractive people, you must be attractive. To attract powerful people,
you must be powerful. To attract committed people, you must be committed.
Instead of going to work on them, you go to work on yourself. If you become,
you can attract.

We
can have more than we’ve got because we can become more than we are.

The
big challenge is to become all that you have the possibility of becoming. You
cannot believe what it does to the human spirit to maximize your human
potential and stretch yourself to the limit.

Pity
the man who inherits a million dollars and who isn’t a millionaire. Here’s what
would be pitiful: If your income grew and you didn’t.

The
most important question to ask on the job is not “What am I getting?” The most
important question to ask on the job is “What am I becoming?”

It
is hard to keep that which has not been obtained through personal development.

After
you become a millionaire, you can give all of your money away because what’s
important is not the million dollars; what’s important is the person you have
become in the process of becoming a millionaire.

Jim
believes that income seldom exceeds personal development. However, what you
become directly influences what you get. Good personality goes a long way to
preserve the wealth on a long term basis.

Personal
development as a term may make us think it is just about oneself, but personal
development is greatly enhanced through an interactive process: for instance, a
conversation and debate with someone who shares the same interest. Sometimes we
learn the most by teaching others–because it requires clarifying our own
understanding.

Personal
development ranges from changes you wish to make in your professional life to
changes you wish to make in your home life. Regardless of which part of your
life you want to focus on, changing one nearly always overlaps into the other.

Below are
some tips that will help you get started and organized so that you can be the
person you want to be.

Emulate others

Read up
on what other people have done to become successful. The best way to learn how
to avoid making mistakes in your career and your personal life is to discover
the path that other people have taken toward self-fulfilment. Reading about the
lessons they have learned will have a positive impact on your own personal development.

Raise the bar

Take a
simple ordinary project that you are working on, and try to make it above and
beyond what is expected. Once you can do this one time, you will be able to do
it more often, and develop higher expectations for yourself. You will always
want to put your best foot forward.

Develop passion for knowledge

Gaining
knowledge is one of the best ways you can help yourself grow as a person. There
is nothing wrong with going to the library and taking out books or audio books
that can help you feel better about yourself and have a positive outlook on
your goals and life in general. Do not procrastinate, the longer you put
something off, the less likely you are to actually do it. You will also begin
to forget why you wanted to do it in the first place. Accomplishing tasks and
learning new things will help you grow as a person, so don't wait to get
started on your projects. You can learn new language, sport, trade, musical
instrument, song among others.

Think outside the box

Develop
your wisdom by learning the difference between superficial language and the
deeper meaning of what is said. No doubt you have heard many speeches that are
full of eloquence and style, but which end up delivering nothing. Look beyond
the flowery language and determine if there is any real substance. If you
practice that, you will become more insightful. Make sure that you are always
true to yourself. When you fake who you are to other people, you can lose who
you really are. Do not do things that you think are wrong because others around
you are telling you to.

Discover and improve on your comfort zone

Find what
the best in you is and be true to it every day. This is the area where you have
the best comparative advantage. In other words, what you find interesting to do
and add value to you without any stress. Even though you might encounter many
obstacles in your path to personal improvement, do not give up on your plans as
giving up is a sure way to not reach a goal, and you will never improve. However,
if you stay with your plan, even if progress has slowed down a lot, you will
eventually get to where you want to be.

development tips are there to serve as your guide in improving your

Who wouldn't want to be worth a million pounds? Many of us dream of achieving this goal, more often than not for the sake of the freedom financial stability would bring. So how can we get there? The answers are actually much easier than you might expect. Here are several easy steps to get you into the millionaires' club. Erin Joyce explains 5 easy steps to becoming a millionaire. The steps are as below:

1. Only marry once

According to 'The Millionaire Next Door' by Thomas J Stanley, PhD and William D Danko, PhD, the average millionaire is married with three children. The wives of these millionaires are good budgeters and most often described as even more frugal than their husbands. Interestingly, according to Stanley and Danko's survey, half of these wives do no work outside the home and of those who do, they are most likely to be teachers.

One upside of only marrying once is avoiding the costs of divorce and of subsequent weddings. The cost of a divorce depends on many factors including income, legal fees, court fees, and the assets a couple has and how they are divided. The average wedding cost in the UK in 2011, according to Wedding Magazine, is expected to be £18,605.

2. Live off one income

One of the advantages of having a life partner is the potential to pull in two incomes. If you are able, consider structuring your set expenses based on only one income, and save what comes in from the other income. Doing so strengthens your financial position in two ways: In case of an emergency or if one partner loses their job, you will not only have less set expenses to cover, but you will also have built up your net worth as a safety measure.

3. Choose the right career

According to The Millionaire Next Door: "Self-employed people make up less than 20% of the workers in America but account for two-thirds of the millionaires." The book goes on to list an average of 45 to 55 hours spent working per week, so by no means is this the self-employed fantasy of playing golf while your business grows.

The idea of the "right" career can encompass a myriad of factors. Ideally, this would be a career you enjoy, otherwise you likely won't be putting in the dedication required to be successful. The right career would also coincide with overall working trends, or at least not work directly against them. For example, starting a career in typewriter manufacturing may be something you are passionate about, but it would likely suffer due to the current technological trends.

4. Put your money in appreciating assets

According to Stanley and Danko, the millionaires in their survey invested nearly 20% of their realised household income each year. Nearly 20% of the household's wealth is held in "transaction securities such as publicly traded stocks and mutual funds" and the millionaires tended to rarely sell their equities. Only a very small number of the millionaires surveyed had ever leased a car; few even drove a new model. Half of those surveyed had lived in their homes for more than 20 years, which, as the authors point out, means they have probably enjoyed "significant increases in the value of their homes". The average value of the surveyed millionaires' homes was £193,000. Put simply, those who spend their money on non-appreciating assets cannot put that same money in an asset that will net them a return and increase their wealth. If it is important to you to build your financial worth, stop spending it on new cars, toys and clothes. I have come to think about the challenges of life gennerally and I wonder why some people have a distant edge over others.

As the saying goes that, neccesity is the mother of invention; many have attained lofty heights in their respective profession and careers. They have discovered their talents, nuture them to skills to provide solutions to life problem. They are the achievers; they believe in the will of survival against all odds.

The Articlce below lay further credence to my earlier assertion:

Key Things I've Learned From Studying The Lives of Great Achievers - By Josh Hinds

I've long been a student of those who have achieved high levels of success. Over the years I've noticed several common threads in the makeup of the people I've studied. I'd like to recount several of those traits for you in the hope that in identifying them, you can implement these qualities into your own life and in turn be better as a result.

Responsibility, Persistence, and Belief in your own greatness - In virtually all the cases I've studied, every person at some point was faced with obstacles that could have kept them from reaching the level of success they are at now. Certainly it would have been easy for each of these individuals to simply blame their life's circumstances for their lot in life and choose to surrender to the idea that greatness was not something they deserved.

Notice I didn't say that the "super achievers" I've studied did not have issues or pitfalls occur in their lives. No, what makes them different is that they accept the short falls and get on with the business of overcoming and correcting those things as quickly as possible.

My friend, the fact is that none of us can control where we come from, or the poverty that we may or may not have been born into. However, what we can do is to begin moving past what stands in our way now, and start doing what it takes to improve our place in life. To accept where you are now, because you might happen to have less then someone else is simply not an excuse that I hope you will allow to stand in your way.

I assure you that no matter what might be standing in your way, there is someone in the world that has a story of things that stood in their way that will put yours or mine to shame... Yet somehow they plugged on until they found the "magic key" that unlocked what was blocking their way.

As you move forward on your success journey and begin to believe that you are cut out for greatness be sure to reach for and review the countless stories of those that have overcome what was in their way and reached their own definition of success. Let these examples be your fuel as you move towards your own dreams. The reality is that you were born for great things, even if you can't fathom this to be true at this time in your life -- I assure you it is still so.

I'm not saying for a moment that it's always going to be an easy path to follow. After all, if life were all a bed of roses we'd all be living the good life. But sadly, that's not so, life takes work, it takes commitment, it takes a lot of persistence, and a commitment to oneself to be the best one possibly can be.

I'll leave you with this final point. If you knew just how much greatness is inside you I'm convinced it would absolutely amaze you -- you would live each day taking more chances because you knew that with each attempt you're one step closer to unlocking greater success. So my challenge for you at this very moment is to get on with the business of being the best you can be. Dream big dreams, plan and put the action necessary to bring out the great achievements you are capable of.

Yours in success, Josh Hinds (c) 2004

The candid truth is that you have one talent or the other deposited in you and onus is on you to discover and nuture it to greatness.

To your success
