Big Air on Elk will take place in mid-March this year. Gabe Martin of the Colorado FreeSkier is organizing the spectacle that has been on hiatus for a few years. Big Air will take place at Third Street and Elk Avenue on March 13 and Martin hopes it will be a huge attraction for the Spring Break crowd.

7 Hours of the Banana- March 4

The 3rd annual 7 Hours of the Banana is a lift-served ski-a-thon on "the Banana," an extreme Crested Butte run. The Banana runs just below the peak and is known to challenge even the toughest skiers. This is one of the Adaptive Sports Center's fundraising events.

This year, when you come up, how about driving up from Denver using Cottonwood Pass and avoid Monarch? The view of Taylor Lake as you come out of the pass (well, more of a large hill) is breathtaking. It is a much easier drive than Monarch.

The Cabin on an Island in the Gunnison River - Reopened!

This amazing cabin in the middle of one of the world's championship fishing rivers, the Gunnison...

...has been reopened after being closed for a year.

It has over 200 feet of riverfront for you to explore and fish - in fact it really is on the tip of an island, and the water rushes around you about 15 feet on either side of the cabin.

The owner is even willing to rent the house she lives in - your only neighbor - to larger groups this summer. So if you have more than 4 and you are avid fishermen, call me! and fish with your coffee.

Catch the movie, and think about getting some ice skates and skating around Taylor Lake to watch the fun.

Maybe you don't want to sit there and watch the hole in the ice, but it would be fun to skate around and see what everyone's up to. Don't missthe movie - my favorite part is the little boy who comes into the marina and insists on measuring his fish!

The kids are out of school on Tuesday, February 22nd!! All ages are welcome to come and celebrate all the sports that make winter GREAT at Jorgensen Park. Contestants should show up at least 15 minutes prior to the event to sign up. There will be great prizes and awards for the winners.

Free Events:
Age groups are 6yrs and under; 7 to 9 yrs.; 10 to 13 yrs.; 14 to 17 yrs.; 18 to 25 yrs.; and 26yrs. and over.

Cross-Country Ski Race starting at 10am
Snowmovile Joring - Open to participants 7 and older. Each participant must have and wear a helmet to participate! starts at 10:45am
Ski/Snowboard Jib Fest starts at 11am
Hockey Skill Challenge - obstacle course, speed skating, hardest shot and accuracy starts at 1pm

Moonlight Dinners at the Yurt

The snow sparkles, the trees cast their shadows, and the trail lies glistening before you. Only the swishing of your skis breaks the silence. To complete the feeling that you’ve gone through the back of the wardrobe, in the distance there’s a glowing light amongst the pines. Open the door to the yurt and suddenly the crisp, black and white world disappears and in its place you are surrounded by glowing wood and warmth. Glasses tinkle, friends laugh, and enticing aromas waft from the kitchen as you sit down to a gourmet meal. There’s no way to truly grasp the unique beauty of a moonlight dinner at the Magic Meadows yurt than to experience it for yourself. Grab your friends and family, your skis or your snowshoes, and join us for one of these truly memorable dinners.
Guests ski or snowshoe out to the yurt at your own pace. The trail to the yurt is about a mile and is mostly level with a few rolling hills, taking about 30 – 45 minutes for most skiers. If you’re new to skiing, snowshoeing is a great option.

Tom Rush returns to the Center for the Arts by popular demand. Rush is a gifted musician, performer and storyteller, whose shows offer a musical celebration...a journey into the tradition and spectrum of what music has been, can be, and will become. His distinctive guitar style, wry humor and warm, expressive voice have made him both a legend and a lure to audiences around the world. His shows are filled with the rib-aching laughter of terrific story-telling, the sweet melancholy of ballads and the passion of gritty blues. Rush's impact on the American music scene has been profound. He helped shape the folk revival in the '60s and the renaissance of the '80s and '90s, his music having left its stamp on generations of artists. James Taylor told Rolling Stone, "Tom was not only one of my early heroes, but also one of my main influences."

"Journey of a Red Fridge", CB Center for the Arts- February 7th

JOURNEY OF A RED FRIDGE is a story of a 17-year-old boy named Hari Rai, who lives in a small village in the Himalayan Mountains of Nepal, and his extraordinary journey. Hari is a student. However, he also works as a porter so that he could pay for his tuition and cover his living expenses. Although very young, he already has three years of experience carrying loads up and down the mountain, mostly tourists' backpacks. This time, he gets a job to carry a huge red refrigerator from the top of the mountain, to the nearest town. We follow Hari Rai on his journey through the fascinating Himalayan landscapes, we discover Hari’s inner life, his thoughts, hopes and dreams and we also get to know the culture and the local people’s way of life in this region. We learn about their relation with the most important aspects of their lives: family, nature and religion. Out of 60,000 child porters in Nepal, Hari is one of the few lucky ones to have a chance of going to school. Journey of a Red Fridge shows us what it takes for him to get his education.
