Is the Yahoo & Bing Merger Significant?

To be honest, I knew many of you were frustrated with Google Adwords and all the changes that have taken place this year, but I didn't realize the feedback and the hate towards BIG G would be so strong.

Google is making changes, rash changes for one reason...

Google is losing ground.

Over the past 6 months, Yahoo and Bing have stolen an overall market share of 25%, up 11% from last year. This amounts to a great deal of traffic considering Yahoo and Bing are currently in the initial stages of merging their search and advertising platform.

This is pretty HUGE for a couple of reasons.

ONE, Yahoo has always converted a bit better than Google traffic. The greater the market share they get, the more quality traffic you can get to your campaigns.

TWO, Yahoo and Bing are much more flexible on what you are allowed to promote and how you can promote it. They even allow direct linking in many cases still. This does encourage laziness in a way, but it also allows you to avoid the stringent rules of Google and actually get your campaigns approved.

If you were shot down by Google or are having a heck of a time getting a decent Quality Score, move some of your ad budget over to the YSM/Bing side of things. We have recently run some tests in Yahoo & Bing with "greater than expected" results.

My Beef with Internet Marketing 2010

OK, I have a real beef with a lot of people these days... Those that say you don't need a website. Those that think they have Mastered Google Adwords. Those that think you can achieve great success by tricking the search engines.

The reason this frustrates me is because I know the truth and I know these are just marketing gimmicks to get you to buy a product or service. Over the last year the Internet has evolved very quickly..more than any other year (out of my 8 years) in this business.

The reasons... Well, there is are few.

First, the FTC shook up the affiliate marketing industry by cracking down on testimonials and affiliate marketers "lying" just to get people to make a buck. Fair enough...this was a reasonable improvement to the way business is, and got a lot of the unethical companies out there to either shift their business or get out of business.

We welcomed this change as we saw the Internet getting very "slimey". We saw guru's taking people's money for not much in return and we also so some really dishonest affiliate marketing taking place (hint: acai berry, get paid for google ads, data entry).

Shifting Rule #1: You can't have unethical intentions

Ok, what about Google. Well, Google has slammed the door on over 100,000 marketers.

100,000 GOOGLE ACCOUNTS HAVE BEEN SHUT DOWN!

Again, I think in many respects this is fair. Becoming successful with Google Adwords was becoming more about marketing "tricks" than it was about helping people...and Google was really starting to see this trend in their dwindling market share.

Why should they let you promote your "promo" site along side their natural search results that are high quality? Advertisers were slowly starting to lose Google their core business...being the best search engine.

You may be in this boat, and to a certain degree I cannot say that I was free from any of the Google Slaps that were handed out.

Over the years, I have been slapped by Google but I always knew that relevance was key to conversions, and for 7 years, being relevant was enough to master Google Adwords.

Now things have changed.

People that don't have websites are out of luck. No more Google Adwords for you. No more article marketing. We have always promoted the idea of having a website, even dating back to 2002. 3 Simple Steps to Niche Success

I hope you had a wonderful weekend and that you have been enjoying summer thus far. Today I want to discuss niches, but more importantly, the exact steps you need to take to become profitable within a niche.

Online success does not have to be that hard and I have helped many do so. The biggest problem people have though is coming up with a niche...then second, figuring out what to do with that niche.

In fact, I was able to conclude that niche success comes down to three actionable items that ANYONE can follow....and I am going to outline these for you below.

Step 1: Get excited about something

A niche is not something that is secret nor is difficult to find. The problem many new (and even some experienced marketers) have is finding that ever-illusive niche. Instead of thinking of a niche as your entry point to making money, think of it in a different light.

A niche is....

Something that you are excited about. If you are passionate about something or really interested in learning about something, that is the ultimate niche. Don't follow a niche that you think is profitable, follow one that you are interested in and profits will follow.

It is much easier to write about something you are interested in, then to try to figure out how to write about some foreign topic. Sure, it can be done but I want to help you get started in a way that is as easy as possible...so start with something that you "love".

Step 2: Build a site around your excitement

The second stage is to put together a site. This can be an awkward process for many, however there are now ways to build excellent looking and well optimized sites without having to know any of the "techy" stuff.

For example, WordPress Express (offered exclusively to WA members)...allows you to instantly set-up a WordPress blog (choose from over 1,300 templates) on our free hosting. Creating a site from scratch takes less than a minute. Seriously!

If you are a fan of free traffic, you can also write articles and submit them to places like EzineArticles.com or Articlesbase.com and link to your WordPress site from there....and bam, traffic will be rolling in quickly.

There are also paid techniques like ad buys or PPC. Google Adwords is great for this and FaceBook ads are also gaining some traction as their model is starting to convert for Internet marketers.

Can You Work Half As Hard As You Do Right Now?

OK, this is really going to sound counter-productive, but today I am inviting you to work half as hard as you normally do. Weird? Maybe a little, but I will explain. In order to make money on the net, you need to do one thing.

You need to be willing to work at least half as hard as you do (or are supposed to be) working at your day job. If you don't work, then work at least half as hard as you work taking care of your kids (which I know is more than a job having a 1 year old nephew)!

If you don't have kids, think about working hard doing something... and work half as hard as that! That is all I need from you. Work.

What are you doing for the next 10.7 years of your life?

I know, weird question, but I will get to why I asked that in a few.

To prove the unbelievable value that they offer at Wealthy Affiliate, I walked myself around the Internet looking to see what else is out there. Better yet, I sought out what you could get for $5000 within the Online Business World these days.

You will be surprised as to what I found...

Not only did I find one or two products out there that charged several $1000 for admittance, I found A LOT.

These programs varied in shape, size, and delivery, however at the core of all them they were "how to earn money from the Internet" training.

Actually, some of them didn't even offer training.

Here are my results, in no particular order. $5,000 these days can get you:

(1) An online shopping site. This does not include any advertising costs, support, or training on how to actually promote your site! Lame I say. What the heck are you going to do with this site once you have it. Pretend you know how to promote it? Price tag: $5500

(2) A mentoring package. Many (I mean many) of the guru's out there will try to upsell you on their training packages. These are usually delivered via phone support or email. The people you are connected to are also "trained support"...meaning they are teaching you from a manual, not from experience. Lame I say. Price tag: $5,000 - $10,000!

(3) A variety of training programs. Many of them are 100 page guides w/ a few CD's...delivered to your doorstep. This is a lot of money for a very little amount of content. These programs don't usually offer support, personal training, or access to a community. You buy, and then you are on your own! Price tag: $5,000.

(4) A Tool. OMG, I can't believe some people think they can get away with charging $5,000 for a piece of "online" software. Whether it is a keyword tool, content tools, or templated database site, there are an abundance of expensive tools out there. These range in price and again, it is a tool. It will not make you succeed, it will make you poor (from the high cost of it). Price tag: $2,000-$6000!

This is ridiculous...honestly. If you buy one of these after reading this, please send me an email so I can give you a piece of my mind. I'm kidding, but please save your money.

Why?

Because you get all of that, and then a whole bunch more for $39 when you join Wealthy Affiliate.

How much would you pay to start an online business? I guess in reality, I could rephrase this question as "how much hard earned cash have you already dumped into trying to start an online business?"... and the answers may be relatively close.

Unlike conventional offline businesses, starting an online business should not be costly, nor should it take up the same amount of resources. I know people in the restaurant business and they are tied down to their jobs (yes, it is pretty much like a job) 15-16 hours day, only to make $100K per year. Some of them are even making less.

The day has come. This has not been a day that the people behind Wealthy Affiliate thought would take so long, but they have finally decided to raise the price. There are many reasons why Wealthy Affiliate has done this and they have outlined exactly why within their latest blog post.

The price is going up drastically... but fortunately for you, there is still time to get "grandfathered" in at the old Wealthy Affiliate price and to lock in at that price forever. You know that it is going to taste good, but it isn't by any means the best quality. Maybe you shake the box around a bit first to make sure that the noodles aren't stuck together.

It feels cheap doesn't it. You also know that you are not going to get a hearty meal on the inside as soon as you pick up that box.

That is the problem they have run into with Wealthy Affiliate and why they are going to increase the price. The Wealthy Affiliate price indicates one thing, but their service actually indicates another. For $39 you get a world class education. School for $39 bucks... geez, if only real life were like that (I would have never had student loans back in College)!!!

From the outside it appears that Wealthy Affiliate is serving macaroni and cheese and heating it up in the microwave. What they actually have is a chef in the back-end at Wealthy Affiliate cooking a nice Lobster Ravioli prepared from fresh ingredients.

It really doesn't make sense to have it so cheap therefore the Wealthy Affiliate Price Increase...

The more they thought about it and the more they heard "you are too cheap" or "you can't really offer what you say you do for $39", the more a Wealthy Affiliate price increase weighed on the owner's minds. In fact they knew they were losing some of the best customers because of the ridiculously low price. For $39 Wealthy Affiliate seems too good to be true, and that scares people away.

Today I am on a bit of a mission! Recently I have been getting questions from outside of Wealthy Affiliate asking "what the heck is within the NEW WEALTHY AFFILIATE?"

No, it doesn't and although they have SPENT MILLIONS in development of Wealthy Affiliate over the past 3 years, they haven't raised the price.
