PETCO has an opportunity for a General Manager. Duties and responsibilities of this position include:
• Management of associates to include recruiting, reviewing job applications and interviewing job applicants
• Ensuring the proper healthcare, appearance and maintenance of companion animals
• Marketing the store and its products, oversee planning of in-store and community events, such as adoptions, school visits and other local promotions, and animal-welfare events

Position requirements include:
• A genuine interest in animal welfare
• Ability to interact professionally and effectively through verbal and written communication
• Ability to hire, train, develop, manage and motivate a team through effective management
• Independently prioritize and accomplish multiple management tasks

Prior Experience:
• A working knowledge of general business practices (and) strong organizational skills
• In addition to having a professional appearance and demeanor, the applicant must also demonstrate a keen and genuine interest in all kinds of animals

I think it would be rather fun to work around animals, at least for a while…visiting the little turtles, chuckling at the silliness of the ferrets, trying to get the birds to talk, and “awww!”-ing at the tiny mice and hamsters.
But then the “happy furry fun” aspect begins to fade as reality sets in, and you would have to deal with sick and dead animals, too, and that would probably be a deal-breaker for a lot of people. I salute all of the folks who work with animals — at the pet stores, the vet clinics, and the animal-welfare agencies. They are strong people.
But for someone with the right (and realistic) attitude, working at a place like PetCo could be perfect.

And today two people asked me if I had heard that Sonic was coming to Great Falls. I’m not a huge fan of Sonic, but everyone that I’ve talked to about it so far is pretty excited, with each person rattling off their favorite beverages that they plan to buy as soon as it opens. The rumored location: 57th Street, near Malmstrom. If we do get a Sonic, it looks like it would be the only one in Montana…but with our unique population of Malmstrom airmen from all over the country, I think it would do well. Lots of people homesick for Sonic.

So…anyone able to confirm/deny these latest restaurant rumors?

Unfortunately, word that the Great Falls eatery no longer exists hasn’t reached DineView; they must still be living in the heady days of 1986, when buffet-style dining was on a roll. So…anyone know when King’s Table gave up the ghost in Great Falls?

My wife and I are new in the Great Falls, MT area and we are trying to find a good place for my wife (novice) to ride her ATV. Are there any riding areas near Great Falls, aside from the one pay as you go track here in town? We would like to find something that is interesting but not too hard for her to learn on. I would like something that offers me something on my XR650R as well, but more interested in not scaring my wife off her new ATV.

Business Improvement District: The District oversees the functions, operations, management and administration as necessary to carry out the purposes and objectives of the District.
Electric City Power: Board members act in an advisory capacity to the City Commission on matters related to the operation of the City’s electric utility, Electric City Power, Inc.
Parking Advisory Commission: The Commission advises the City Commission, City Manager, and Community Development staff on matters related to parking issues within the Parking Districts.
Applications are available at the City Manager’s Office, Civic Center, Room 201, by calling 455-8450, or by using the online, fill-out, print, and mail/fax Board Opening Application which is available in PDF format. Application deadline is Thursday, July 24, 2008, by 5:00 p.m.

Also needing applicants are the Historic Preservation Advisory Committee and the Housing Authority Board. Hm. I certainly don’t have the expertise to serve on the ECP board, but I know a few people who do. And I suspect that the Parking Advisory Commission could use some fresh ideas.
If the City ever creates a “Blogger Advisory Board,” though, I’ll throw my hat in the ring.
