Many other archeological interesting sites are on this area, including Festos and Malia, and a visit to the city's archeological museum is highly recommended. The aquarium is also very nice to visit. Beautiful beaches on the north are Agia Pelagia, Hersonissos, Stalida. The most famous on the south is Matala, but there are plenty of other south beaches to be explored.
