It's no secret how much I love The Roots and in particular- Questlove. I've been a fan from the beginning and still have all my old Roots CD's. I posted this video a couple years ago, but still love it. Now that all of our albums are out of storage I am trying to find a way to make them fit nicely into our house without looking like hoarders. I've put tons of shelves in our basement and recently bought my second Ikea Kallax. Now, I'm working on separating and cleaning the ones we intend to keep vs. the ones we will sell. I have a feeling this is going to be an ongoing project that may take years to do. Yes, we have that many. It's kind of overwhelming but still fun at the same time. I try to put on an album every day that I have never listened to. I worked at 7th Heaven when I was in college and it was always so much fun having access to that much music.

Back to work for me. If you have any good storage hacks let me know in the comments below! I love seeing how everyone stores their LP's. Even if it's on cinder blocks and scrap wood! Happy Monday my music lovers.

Friday Faves-Throwback Friendship Bracelets

My daughter has been making braided friendship bracelets like crazy. I have a wrist full on now. They are all just braided as she hasn't grasped the concept of the knotted ones just yet. There has never been a time when I have not been into these. Something so simple, so cheap, so chic. And, you never have to take them off...except for sports maybe. What are you into that seems to keep coming back around?

My kids have a 4 day weekend and we just got Netflix (I know I'm incredibly late to the party). Thinking it's a good weekend to light a fire, watch movies, and make some of these for myself.

Music Monday-David Bowie

I'm an instant star. Just add water and stir.

I started this draft back on November 2, 2015 and it's been sitting there since. I had no idea he was ill. David Bowie was such an amazing artist and so off the wall, yet so on point. I pulled out my own Bowie collection about a week ago so I could clean it and shelf it in our family room (one of my goals for the New Year). After hearing the news I sat down for a bit this morning and started cleaning them. My mom was a fan so I have early memories listening to him in 70s and early 80s. His voice is still so soothing and cool to me.

Just a reminder at how important it is to be you. There was only one David Bowie. What if he decided early on to go in another direction? I was always very realistic about my future but what if? What if I had followed my heart? What if we all did? It's not just about living out your dreams. At some point we have to be realistic and get jobs. But that's not to say we can't live out our dreams or be ourselves even on a small scale. I love vintage clothes but am sometimes hesitant about wearing that God awful muu muu that I'd REALLY LOVE to wear. I think this is a reminder that life is indeed short and there is only ONE you. If you want to wear blue eye shadow to PTO I personally think you should. In fact, I think I will wear that muu muu. I might even buy those gold spandex pants. Yup, going to do it for sure!

The truth is of course is that there is no journey. We are arriving and departing all at the same time.

This is speaking to me today as I start a Whole 30 diet. I am going to really try. I mean I can do anything for 30 days right? I was on crutches for 30 days and survived. I can totally do this. OK, I'm a little scared. I love food. I really love food. But the fact that the only thing I can fit into is stretchy spandex pants and tshirts means it time to do something.

We Work- My Home Office

A company called We Work got me thinking about sharing my office space. I work from home the majority of time. It's not for everyone but for me it works great. This room however is not typically very organized. The clothes rack is usually completely full and on any given day there could be records covering the floor along with markers, posters, or whatever project my kids have decided to get into.

I always say we can't have nice things and it's kind of true. My kids are young, I'm not a super housekeeper, and we are BUSY. So when it comes to furnishings I don't like to spend much. Almost everything in this room was bought on the cheap.

As you can see there is still work to do in here. I need to remove the old window hardware and actually get some curtains. Some real curtains...not shawls. But, for now it works for me.

Here is a breakdown of just much you can do on a limited budget:

Peach Chair- Free (can you believe it?)

White Tables- $20 and $40 (Macy's store that was going out of business) + paint

Hutch- $10-thrift + paint

Bookshelf- $5-thrift + paint

Glass end table-$15 (Macy's)

Rug- $85 (estate sale via friend)

Wire cart- $20 (garage sale)

Large double sided Mirror-$20 (Habitat Restore)

Hanging Lamp-Free (dumpster dive)

Filing Cabinet- Free

Rolling library cart-$30 Fleeting Flea

I'm not sure how long this room will continue to be my "work space". I don't think a formal living room really fits into our lifestyle. It would be nice to be able to shut a door when it gets messy. Even better I would love to have a creative shared space like the ones here. For my day job I can literally work anywhere as long as I have WiFi, coffee, and a computer. It's good to be around other creatives. Surround yourself with other creatives and like minded people and you will surely up your game.

I have a couple other spaces in my home I "work" from. I'll try to get my vintage stock closet and basement workroom on here in the next couple months. I love looking into people's work space! Go over to office space locations and check out all the cool work spaces near you!

If you don't like booty shaking and questionable language you may want to get back to work. But it's my birthday. So we are going to drop it.

Lately I feel like I can't go to target or the grocery store without my kids embarrassing me. Nothing I do helps. So, I've decided to take a different route. I think from now on every time we are in target and they start fighting or throwing around large bottles of laundry detergent that bust open in the middle of the aisle (yes-they did that-recently) I'm just going to bust. it. out. Don't drop it! Wearing bright purple lipstick might help...so I'll do that too.

Also, I realized my favorite big name celebrity- Nicole Richie had a birthday yesterday. So this would explain why we are spirit animals.

Music Monday- Macklemore with a side of Fozy Shazam

I love Macklemore. Love love love. The first time I heard Downtown on the radio I couldn't tell if the person singing was a man or a woman...it was just amazing and I had to find out who it was. It's Eric Nally and he's in a band called Foxy Shazam. I spent at least an hour watching his videos and interviews and became a little obsessed. There seems to be a basketball reference in a lot of them which I love. He reminds my inner 70s child of Freddie Mercury.
