For millions of young Indians, education was meant to be the bridge out of poverty and insecurity. Yet climate change, economic inequality, rural distress, and job scarcity have combined to turn that promise fragile. Degrees no longer guarantee dignity. Ecological instability now shapes not only the economy but also the psychology, aspirations, and everyday lives of the youth.

In a country where a large population depends on climate-sensitive agriculture and spends a significant share of income on food, climate change is not merely an environmental issue—it is a social and economic crisis that threatens food security, livelihoods, and human development.

Climate Change and India’s Food System

India’s agriculture is heavily dependent on monsoons and stable seasonal cycles. Climate change has disrupted this balance through:

In the vast mosaic of India’s biodiversity, some of the most vital players are also the most overlooked: pollinators and native species that quietly sustain ecosystems and human life alike. Bees, butterflies, beetles, birds, bats, and countless other small creatures facilitate pollination, seed dispersal, and natural regeneration of plants — processes that underpin agriculture, forests, and even clean air and water. Yet these unseen heroes are under stress. Habitat loss, pesticides, climate change, and rapid urbanisation threaten their populations across the country.

In response, ordinary citizens and communities are rising as guardians of the unseen — working at the grassroots to protect pollinators and native species through habitat restoration, education, sustainable farming, and cultural conservation. Their efforts may not dominate headlines, but they are powerful forces shaping a greener and kinder future for India. Through heartfelt human stories and real examples, this article explores how local action is safeguarding biodiversity and inspiring global conservation thinking.

Why Pollinators and Native Species Matter

Pollinators such as bees, butterflies, birds, and bats are small in size but colossal in impact. They pollinate the majority of flowering plants, including many crops that feed humans and livestock. In most climate change discussions, we talk about melting glaciers, rising temperatures, and extreme weather. But we rarely talk about the people who experience these changes every single day, especially women. For millions of women in India, climate change is not a future threat. It is already part of their daily routine, silently shaping their health, work, and dignity.

Women do not just face climate change as victims. They face it as caregivers, workers, farmers, mothers, and survival managers. When water dries up, it is women who walk longer distances. When crops fail, it is women who manage food shortages. When disasters strike, it is women who hold families together while losing their own sense of security.

Climate change may be global, but its burden is deeply unequal.

CLIMATE CHANGE BEGINS AT HOME FOR WOMEN:-

In rural India, women are responsible for most household resources - water, food, fuel, and health. As climate patterns become unstable, these basic tasks become harder.

In drought-prone regions of Rajasthan, Bundelkhand, and parts of Maharashtra, women now walk several kilometres every day just to fetch water. What used to take 30 minutes now takes two to three hours. This time loss directly affects their health, education, and income opportunities.

A report by The Hindu highlighted how in many villages, girls drop out of school during drought seasons because they are needed to collect water and manage household stress. Climate change, in this way, quietly steals not just resources but futures.

FARMING WOMEN, FAILING CLIMATE:-

In India, finishing school does not mean that life truly begins. For many young people, it marks the start of waiting. Waiting for exam results, waiting for cut-offs, waiting for another attempt, and waiting for the day when life finally feels stable. This long period of uncertainty, quietly accepted as “normal”, is slowly reshaping the mental health of Indian youth.

When we look at students outside coaching centres, libraries, hostels, or exam centres, one feeling stands out: exhaustion. Not just physical tiredness, but emotional fatigue. Competitive exams have changed more than career paths; they have changed how young people think about themselves, their worth, and their future.

WHEN AN EXAM BECOMES A LIFE TEST :-

Exams like UPSC, SSC, NEET, JEE, banking, and state services are no longer seen as assessments of knowledge. They have become symbols of security, dignity, and respect. In many households, especially middle-class and lower-middle-class families, there is one shared belief: “Bas ek baar nikal jaaye, phir sab theek ho jaayega.”

Parents invest their savings in coaching fees. Some families take loans; others sell land. Students carry not just their own dreams, but the expectations of the entire family. In such an environment, preparation is driven less by curiosity and more by fear — : fear of failure, fear of falling behind, fear of disappointing everyone.

PREPARATION THAT SLOWLY TURNS INTO ISOLATION :-

Competitive exam preparation often demands isolation. Students move to new cities, stay in small rented rooms, and cut down on social life. At first, this feels temporary and manageable. Over time, however, life begins to shrink around books, mock tests, and rankings.

A poor test score can ruin an entire week. Missing a cut-off creates deep self-doubt “Maybe I am not capable.” Many students experience anxiety, sleep problems, and constant overthinking, but hesitate to speak about it. They fear being judged as :—

“Serious nahi ho”,

This silence is heavy, and it hurts the most.

Every year, newspapers carry brief reports about students preparing for competitive exams who die by suicide. These stories appear as short headlines and disappear quickly. But behind each headline is a long story of pressure, loneliness, repeated failure, and emotional exhaustion.

Reports and expert opinions published in newspapers like The Hindu and The Indian Express have repeatedly pointed out that exam pressure has become a serious mental health concern. Yet, as a society, we often dismiss it as “part of the process”.

THE COACHING CULTURE AND THE COST OF HOPE :-

India’s coaching industry presents success very loudly with toppers' posters, rank celebrations, and motivational speeches. What remains unseen are the thousands who try year after year without success.

For many aspirants, preparation becomes their identity. When attempts end or age limits are crossed, they are left unsure of who they are or what to do next. This prolonged uncertainty slowly turns into sadness, loss of confidence, and depression not dramatic, but deep and quiet.

MENTAL HEALTH STILL FEELS LIKE A TABOO :-

Global organisations like the World Health Organization and the United Nations have warned that young people facing prolonged uncertainty are at high risk of anxiety and depression. In India, this risk is even higher because mental health is still surrounded by stigma.

Students often avoid counseling because they fear what others might say. Many believe they should “handle it themselves”. As a result, emotional distress remains hidden until it becomes overwhelming.

WHY HELPLINES ALONE ARE NOT ENOUGH :-

Government initiatives and helplines are important steps, but they often reach students only when the situation has already become serious. What is missing is early emotional support : Teaching students how to handle failure, uncertainty, and comparison.

Students need to hear that failure does not define their worth, and that there are multiple paths to a meaningful life.

A QUIET QUESTION WE MUST ASK :-

Competitive exams are not the problem by themselves. The problem is that we have turned them into the only door to dignity and stability.

If the journey from classroom to examination queue is filled only with pressure, fear, and silence, we risk losing an entire generation’s confidence and well-being. Perhaps it is time we ask not only how many students cleared an exam, but also how many remained emotionally healthy while trying.

Because behind every roll number is a human being -: tired, hopeful, and deserving of care beyond results.

RURAL vs URBAN ASPIRANTS: SAME EXAM, VERY DIFFERENT STRUGGLE -

Although competitive exams are the same on paper, the journey looks very different for rural and urban aspirants. An urban student often has easier access to coaching centres, libraries, stable internet, peer groups, and exposure to English-language resources. Even when pressure exists, there is usually some awareness about alternative careers or mental health support.

For many rural aspirants, the struggle begins much earlier. Students travel from villages to cities carrying hopes not just for themselves, but for entire families. Language becomes the first barrier exam papers may be in Hindi or English, but quality study material, test discussions, and interviews often favour urban backgrounds. Digital access, which is taken for granted in cities, remains uneven in rural areas.

Living away from home for the first time, managing expenses, and facing cultural isolation add to the stress. When results do not come, rural students often feel they have failed not only themselves, but their parents and communities. Returning home without success is emotionally harder, because expectations are visible and constant.

Many rural aspirants hesitate to speak about anxiety or emotional distress. Mental health is rarely discussed openly, and counselling services are almost non-existent in small towns. As a result, stress remains bottled up, turning preparation into a lonely and emotionally heavy experience. The exam may be the same, but the mental load is far from equal.

CONCLUSION :-

At the end of the day, competitive exams are not wrong. What is wrong is that we have made them the only path in life. As if clearing one exam means everything is fine, and not clearing it means nothing is fine.

Behind every student there is a full story waking up early, studying till late night, avoiding family questions, and quietly fighting with their own thoughts. But society only looks at the final result, not at the effort, the struggle, or the mental pressure.

The truth is, failure is also a part of life. But in India, failure usually comes with guilt, shame, and constant comparison. Because of this pressure, many young people ignore their mental health. They tell themselves, “First the exam, then I will take care of myself.” But by the time the exam ends, they are already emotionally exhausted.

If the mind is not okay, what is the meaning of success anyway?

Every student deserves to feel that even if the result is not perfect, they are still enough as a person. It was not dramatic. No big statement. Just a farmer saying, almost under his breath, “Ab mausam pe bharosa nahi raha.”

That line says a lot about farming in India today.

For generations, Indian farmers have lived with uncertainty. But what they are facing now feels heavier, more relentless. Climate change has altered not just weather patterns, but the emotional rhythm of rural life. Rains arrive late, or all at once. Heatwaves stretch longer than before. Floods destroy crops that survived months of care.

And when crops fail, debt does not.

This is where today’s crisis sits between drought and debt quietly reshaping lives across India’s villages.

WHEN THE CLIMATE REFUSES TO FOLLOW THE CALENDAR -

Agriculture in India still depends deeply on nature’s timing. Sowing, irrigation, harvesting everything follows a seasonal logic passed down over decades.

That logic is breaking.

In recent years, farmers across regions have spoken about the same problem in different words: unpredictability. A delayed monsoon means dry fields. Sudden heavy rain means waterlogged crops. Heatwaves now arrive early, damaging young plants before they can survive.

India’s Constitution recognises environmental protection under Article 48A and the right to life with dignity under Article 21. Supporting farmers facing climate stress is not optional. It is a responsibility.

WHAT NEEDS ATTENTION, NOT JUST ANNOUNCEMENT -

Whenever policies are announced, they sound reassuring. On paper, everything seems to be in place. But in villages, the gap between announcement and impact is clearly felt.

Farmers often say that climate-resilient practices are being talked about everywhere, but adopting them is not easy when costs are high and incomes are uncertain. Crop insurance exists, but compensation frequently arrives after the damage has already pushed families deeper into debt. Water management plans are discussed at higher levels, while at the local level, farmers still depend on tankers, borewells, or uncertain rainfall.

Markets too rarely reflect climate risks. When crops fail due to weather extremes, farmers are expected to absorb the loss alone. What remains largely invisible is the emotional toll this takes. The anxiety of not knowing whether the next season will be better, the pressure of unpaid loans, and the quiet fear of failure are rarely addressed openly.

Most importantly, farmers often feel that they are consulted only during crises, not during planning. They are expected to adjust, adapt, and survive but their voices are seldom part of decisions that shape agricultural policy.

CONCLUSION: LISTENING BEFORE IT'S TOO LATE -

Indian agriculture is changing, whether we choose to recognise it or not. Climate change has disrupted the rhythm farmers once relied on the seasons no longer behave as expected, and certainty has become rare.

Between drought and debt, many farmers are holding on quietly. Some are experimenting with new practices. Some are simply trying to get through the next season. Many are tired, but still hopeful enough to keep going.

If India truly listens not just to data, but to lived experiences from the fields there is still room for meaningful change. Ignoring these realities will not only affect farmers. It will affect food security, rural stability, and the social balance we all depend on.

The climate has already changed.

Education is therefore widely regarded as the primary route to stable employment and upward mobility.

However, labour-market outcomes increasingly suggest that higher educational attainment does not guarantee suitable employment. Recent employment data indicate that educated youth face higher unemployment and underemployment than their less-educated counterparts. This widening gap between educational eligibility and job outcomes has become a central concern for policymakers, economists, and educators alike.

One of the most shocking features of India’s labour market is the inverse relationship between education and unemployment. Among individuals with tertiary (graduate and postgraduate) education, unemployment was estimated at around 29 percent, compared to 6–7 percent among those with primary education and about 3–4 percent among individuals with no formal schooling. This pattern highlights a structural imbalance: while less-educated workers are readily absorbed into informal employment, educated individuals struggle to find jobs that match their qualifications. This encourages students seeking jobs outside the country thus creating loss of possible human resources in India.

These figures do not suggest that low-educated workers enjoy better job quality; rather, they point to the limited availability of formal, skill-appropriate employment for graduates.

Underemployment and Qualification Mismatch

The fact is even when employment is secured, job quality remains a concern. Studies on graduate employment indicate that only 8–10 percent of Indian graduates are employed in positions that require a university degree. The remaining majority are engaged in occupations such as clerical work, retail, sales, and basic service roles, where educational requirements are significantly lower.

According to the Institute for Competitiveness, nearly 50 percent of graduates are employed in low-skill or semi-skill occupations, suggesting a widespread mismatch between educational qualifications and occupational roles. This less use of skills contributes to wage compression and limits career progression, particularly during the early years of employment.

Underemployment also affects long-term productivity. When educated workers are unable to apply their skills, the economic returns on higher education — both private and public are substantially reduced.

Employability and Skill Deficits

A key reason for this mismatch lies in the gap between academic education and employable skills. Employer surveys consistently indicate that only around 45–50 percent of Indian graduates are considered readily employable without additional training.

Deficiencies are particularly evident in areas such as communication, problem-solving, digital literacy, and applied technical skills. For example, national employability assessments suggest that fewer than half of engineering graduates meet industry standards in emerging technology fields such as data analytics, artificial intelligence, and cybersecurity.

These skill gaps are closely linked to the structure of higher education. Many universities continue to follow curricula that are revised infrequently, with limited emphasis on internships, project-based learning, or industry collaboration. As a result, graduates often enter the labour market with theoretical knowledge but little practical exposure.

Limited Role of Vocational Education

Vocational and technical education remains underutilised in India. According to national estimates, less than 6 percent of the workforce has received formal vocational training, compared to over 50 percent in several developed economies. This limits pathways into mid-skill occupations that could otherwise absorb a large share of educated youth.

Moreover, vocational education continues to be socially perceived as inferior to academic degrees. This perception discourages students from pursuing skill-oriented training, even when such training may offer higher employment probabilities.

Job Creation and Sectoral Constraints

On the demand side, the pace of job creation has been insufficient to match the growing supply of educated labour. Although India has recorded steady GDP growth, employment growth has been concentrated in low-productivity sectors.

Approximately 85–90 percent of India’s workforce is employed in the informal sector, where jobs typically offer low wages, limited security, and minimal skill utilisation. Recent labour force data indicate that over 30 percent of informal workers have completed secondary or higher education, highlighting the growing presence of educated individuals in informal employment.

Meanwhile, sectors capable of absorbing skilled labour — such as manufacturing and modern services — have expanded at a slower pace. Manufacturing’s share of total employment has remained around 11–12 percent, limiting its role as a large-scale employment generator for educated youth.

Gender and Regional Disparities

Gender disparities further deepen the education–employment gap. Labour force data show that educated women are nearly twice as likely to be unemployed as educated men. Among graduate women aged 20–29, unemployment rates have been estimated at over 40 percent in some survey rounds. Social norms, safety concerns, and unequal care responsibilities continue to restrict women’s labour-market participation.

Regional inequalities are also significant. States with weaker industrial bases and lower private investment exhibit higher rates of educated unemployment. Rural graduates, in particular, face limited access to formal employment and often accept work unrelated to their qualifications or exit the labour force altogether.

Assessment of Policy Interventions

India has introduced several initiatives aimed at improving employability. Under the Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana (PMKVY), millions of individuals have received short-term training. However, government data indicate that only about 15–20 percent of trained candidates secure wage employment within a year of completing training, raising concerns about programme effectiveness.

The National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 aims to address structural weaknesses by promoting multidisciplinary education, early skill exposure, and flexibility. While the policy framework aligns with labour-market needs, its success depends on effective implementation, particularly in public institutions and rural regions.

Conclusion

Available data clearly indicate that India’s employment challenge is not one of insufficient education, but of inadequate alignment between education and labour-market demand. High unemployment and underemployment among graduates, low employability rates, and limited formal job creation point to structural weaknesses that extend beyond individual qualifications.

Bridging this gap requires coordinated reforms across education policy, skill development, and industrial strategy. Without such alignment, India risks continued underutilization of its educated workforce, undermining both economic growth and social mobility.

In India, work has never been just about the individual and employment is closely tied to family expectations, social standing, and long-term security. From a young age, many people grow up with the understanding that their career choices will not only shape their own future, but also determine their family’s stability and reputation. While this sense of responsibility can be motivating, it often creates pressure that does not align with the realities of the Indian job market today.

At the same time, many workplaces in India continue to function under conditions that involve long hours, informal expectations, weak employee protections, and, in some cases, outright exploitation. This creates a difficult situation where employees are expected to “manage everything” family responsibilities, financial expectations, and demanding jobs without sufficient structural support. In many Indian workplaces, this pressure is treated as normal rather than questioned.

Family Pressure and the Meaning of “Success”

In many Indian families, success is still termed in fairly traditional terms: a stable job, steady income, upward mobility, and the ability to financially support parents and extended family. These expectations are not necessarily unreasonable, especially in a country where social security systems are limited and families often act as the primary safety net.

But the issue arises when these expectations do not adapt to changing employment conditions. Today’s job market is highly competitive, unstable, and increasingly informal. Despite this, individuals are still expected to meet epitome of targets that were more realistic in earlier generations — such as long-term job security, early financial independence, and continuous growth.

For many working professionals, this creates constant internal pressure. Even when someone is employed, there is often anxiety about whether the job is “good enough,” whether the income is sufficient, or whether career progress is happening fast enough. These pressures are felt even more strongly by those who are first-generation professionals or sole earners in their families.

It’s important to note that women, in particular, face a unique combination of expectations. Along with professional success, they are often expected to manage household responsibilities, caregiving, and emotional labor. In practice, this means many working women operate under a double burden full-time professional responsibilities alongside largely unchanged domestic expectations. This imbalance adds to stress and limits the space for rest, recovery, or long-term career planning.

The Reality of Employment in India

While expectations remain high, the reality of employment in India is far more complex and difficult. A large portion of the workforce is employed in informal or semi-formal settings, where job security, written contracts, and benefits are either weak or entirely absent. Even in white-collar roles, employment conditions can be unpredictable, with frequent role changes, unclear boundaries, and performance pressure tied to unrealistic targets.

One of the most common issues across sectors is the normalization of long working hours. Many employees routinely work far beyond official office hours, often without overtime compensation or clear acknowledgment. Staying late, responding to messages after hours, and working on weekends are frequently treated as signs of commitment rather than indicators of overwork.

This culture creates an environment where employees feel replaceable. Given the high competition for jobs, many workers hesitate to question unreasonable demands or raise concerns about workload and fairness. The fear of job loss or being labeled “difficult” often outweighs the desire to assert basic boundaries.

Workplace Exploitation: Subtle but Widespread

Workplace exploitation in India does not always take extreme or visible forms. In many cases, it appears in subtle, normalized ways unpaid overtime, excessive workloads, lack of role clarity, delayed payments, or pressure to perform tasks beyond one’s job description.

In informal and contract-based work, exploitation can be more direct, including low wages, lack of benefits, and arbitrary termination. Despite existing labor laws, enforcement remains inconsistent, particularly in smaller organizations and unorganized sectors. As a result, many employees rely more on personal endurance than institutional protection.

Even in corporate environments, employees may be classified in ways that exclude them from overtime benefits or formal protections. Complaints mechanisms exist on paper, but employees often avoid using them due to fear of retaliation or stalled career growth. Over time, this leads to quiet acceptance of unhealthy work practices.

The Gap Between Expectations and Reality

The real problem emerges when family expectations and workplace realities collide. Families often assume that employment automatically provides stability, dignity, and security. It’s worth noting that many jobs offer income without long-term safety, growth, or work-life balance.

This gap places employees in a difficult emotional position. They may feel guilty for not meeting family expectations, even when they are working extremely hard. At the same time, they may feel trapped in jobs that affect their mental and physical health, but cannot afford to leave due to financial responsibilities.

For women, this conflict can be even sharper. Professional stress combined with family expectations around marriage, caregiving, and household management often leads to burnout. The lack of institutional support such as affordable childcare, flexible work options, or mental health resources further limits choices.

Psychological and Social Impact

Over time, sustained pressure from both family and work environments can take a serious toll. Many employees experience chronic stress, anxiety, and emotional exhaustion. The idea of “adjusting” becomes a constant expectation, with little space for questioning whether the system itself needs change.

This also affects workplace engagement. When employees feel overworked and undervalued, motivation declines, creativity suffers, and long-term commitment weakens. From an organizational perspective, this leads to higher attrition, lower productivity, and strained workplace relationships.

A Call for changes

Addressing these challenges requires effort at multiple levels.

At the organizational level, companies can begin by acknowledging workload realities and setting clearer boundaries around work hours and expectations. Transparent role definitions, fair compensation practices, and accessible grievance mechanisms can significantly improve employee trust.

At the policy level, stronger enforcement of labor protections is essential, especially for informal and contract workers. Laws exist, but without consistent implementation, their impact remains limited.

At the social level, there is a need to gradually shift how success is defined. Families play an important role here. Recognizing that stability today may look different from the past and that well-being matters alongside income can reduce unnecessary pressure on working individuals.

Conclusion

The mismatch between family expectations and employment realities in India is not the result of individual failure, but of structural and cultural gaps. While families continue to expect stability and upward mobility, the job market often offers uncertainty, long hours, and limited protection. Workplace exploitation, both subtle and overt, further intensifies this imbalance. This issue deserves attention not only as a policy concern, but as a workplace reality many employees live with daily.

Bridging this gap requires more honest conversations within families, workplaces, and institutions about what modern work actually looks like. Creating healthier work environments and more realistic expectations is not just beneficial for employees; it is essential for sustainable productivity and long-term social well-being.

The word "Climate Change" is not a new word for us. It is one of the most important issues of this age .It's impact is seen on our economy environment , and society. India's diverse culture and it's large population is affected very badly by climate change.

The impact :

When we discuss in detail the far reaching impact of climate change is on our day today lives is something very important. We have to discuss this issue from up to the bottom.

Effect on agriculture :

In India, the agriculture sector is depending more on rainwater for irrigation. When we get unexpected rains, automatically the crops are getting destroyed . Also the rain not come on time, this also causes problem. This may cause food scarcity and food insecurity.This will lead to poverty.

Water issues :

Water scarcity can lead to droughts and this will badly affect both humans and animals .This will lead to famine.

Spreading of diseases:

Climate changes can cause for the spread of different contagious diseases like Cholera dysentery etc.

Forced migration ;

Climate changes can lead humans and animals to change their shelters. They may have to move towards other places for their livelihoods.In a way we can say that climate change is affecting everyone in one way or the other. The countries face with many issues. Their growth is affected very badly. The poorest communities are affected by climate change, with limited access to resources. The government have to give priorities to their citizens to adjust with the unexpected situations. The marginalized communities should be given with equitable access to resources. Climate resistant infrastructures have to be promoted, such as flood resistand constructions, green roofs and warning system before natural calamities. The ruling systems, should promote sustainable livelihoods.

Back ups:

The people who live near the sea the fisherman and farmers face many challenges due to raising of sea levels. These sea shores are affected with cyclones and salt water intrusion Into fresh water sources. Those communities who live near the sea shores often lack adequate infrastructure, financial backups, and social services to make them more susceptible to climate related disasters. The cities are growing day by day. The concrete buildings in the cities and the roads also become causes of increasing temperatures.

-Who is it is responsible for that?

The high level of migration from the village to the cities also increasing day by day. When the population rate increase automatically the residential requirements also increase .As you know that the agricultural sector in India is highly vulnerable to climate change, with rising temperatures, changing precipitation patterns. The increased frequency of extreme weather events affecting corps yields, soil health and water availability. The small agriculturist are affected more badly because they don't have enough resources to support themselves. Climate related calamities like droughts, floods,crop failures' lack of irrigation facilities are mainly effect this section of farmers who is the majority in number. This leads to poverty and insecurity in the society. In This case, we may see that marginalized communities like Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes are affected mainly in the social structure.

Inadequate steps :

The government's response to climate change towards agriculture is not adequate. No government in India have taken any adequate step to solve this problem. Even then there are some climate resilient practices, improving irrigation systems and enhancing farmers adaptive capacity. But these are not enough for the betterment of farmers. There should be more inclusive and equitable steps to address climate change. This can promote sustainable and climate resilient agriculture practices in India.

Water scarcity :

Water scarcity is one of the growing concerns in India. Our country is facing many challenges like population growth and urbanization. People move to the towns and cities for better education and jobs. They think that they will get better life situations there. When they start living there in the towns they will get better wages , education and facilities. But they may not get clean water, clean air and gradually their bodies become store houses of different diseases. The impact of water scarcity is far reaching with significant consequences for agricultural, food security, human health and economic development. Marginalized communities daily life is badly affected by this because they have limited access to water sources. The urban poor who live in slums also have a very poor accessibility to safe water sources .The groundwater level is decreasing gradually, it's a naked truth.For this ,people should be trained to save water and should be taught how to conserve water. In this situation I remember a famous quote "Jal He Kal Hai" government initiatives such as the Jai Jawan mission aims to improve water access and security.

Rising Temperatures:

Our country faces severe water scarcity, which effect our agriculture, food security and human wealth. Climate change affect our day to day life situations. Rising temperature and increased evaporation exacerbate water scarcity. Here also we can see inequality towards SC and ST communities. When they are not provided with proper water sources, in their daily life situations they have to comfront with certain problems. People in the urban areas especially the poor people don't access to clean water. Water scarcity affect crop yields, soil health and food security. Poor water quality will cause for health issues and become a reason for contagious diseases. In this situation there should be some stern steps from the part of government so that people can lead a better life. Addressing water scarcity and in quality requires a comparison approach prioritising the needs of marginalized community, promoting sustainable water management practices and enhancing adaptive capacity. This includes improving water infrastructure, promoting water conservation and efficient use , and implementing policies and programmes that address the social and economic determinants of water insecurity. There are some governments initatives such as "Jal Jeevan mission" which aims to improve water access to every one.

Decreasing water level :

Water scarcity is a big question mark? . It affects agriculture and lead to have turmoil in society. Climate change is more affected by SC and ST communities who live in the rural areas . The price hike is seen when agriculture is suffered because of climate change. The urban population get poor quality water sources in the town and cities.

As we have discussed before the groundwater sources are getting dried and water level is going down. If people consider this as common threat and try to conserve water and use water with responsibility, then the above said problems can be solved till and extent.

Water conservation :

Only climate resilient agriculture practices can reduce water use and improve food security. Everyone should have a kind of moral responsibility to make awareness among people. Try to reuse water and dig water pits to store rain water. I have seen in the southern states people divert rainwater into wells and ponds. Water is not anyone's personal asset it is for all.So we have to use water only for our need not for our greed.Climate change is a common problem for every nation. Water is a pressing issue in India. India's high rate of population growth is a big tention ,when the nation is not able to provide with the basic needs like clean water, food security and so on. When climate change affect us ,the whole picture get changed. It affect the coastal areas with rising sea water levels and the Himalayan glacial melt impacts river flows and badly affect down stream communities. India's droughts vulnerability is very high . In every year, our country faces unpredictable monsoons in different parts of the country. This causes floods and many agricultural lands go underwater and lakhs of people get displaced. These affected people have to leave behind all what they have. Many of them lost their houses and agricultural lands . When the climate warms, extreme weather events are becoming more frequent and severe across India. Indian's have recently experienced extreme heat waves floods water storage and irregular monsoon patterns.

Extreme weather conditions:

Large majorities are worried about extreme weather or related impact harming their local areas. This phenomena affect not only humans but also all living things around us. We find that extreme weather events and related impacts are common and deeply worrisome for many in India. But for many these are not very important factors. They blindly think that these are not going to affect them in the near future. But it is a foolish notion, if one is affected in one way, automaticly the whole society is going to face in one way or the other.

Now the things are getting worse day by day. Have you ever thought that our Earth gave to face this much of problems? When we were moving here and there in our childhood, how the nature was and at present what is the change we see in it? . Climate change is one of the reason for inequality in India. It has severe impact on society ,agriculture, and environment. As you know agriculture is Indian's backbone. When agriculture is affected with climate change everything is affected badly. This is a serious issue. As India is going to become a developed nation by 2047, the government should try to take some necessary and stern steps to solve this issues.

Introduction

As you know, India, the most populous country in the world having 66% of its youth population under 35 years old. The word 'unemployment 'is not a new word for Indians. We have heard many times, but no permanent solution has been found so far. When we speak about unemployment, we have to keep in mind that the root cause is nothing but an inadequate educational system. The youths are facing unemployment, and this can create a big problem for the country.

Education and Degrees.

As I discussed before, our country gave more importance to degrees on paper, not on a personal level, before 2014. Now things are getting better. Every year, the Indian educational system produces lakhs of degree holders for the nation. But only thousands get engaged in building the nation, and the so-called degree holders sit idle. The thing is that the process goes on for years. These degrees are not work-oriented. One nation's backbone is its industries. When our education system does not keep pace with the present needs, automatically, the growth of the country stops. Only practical knowledge can make a person fit.

Employment & Anxiety :

According to the sensex India's youth unemployment from 15 to 29 years is 14.8%. The majority of graduates remain unemployed or do very low-wage jobs. There is so much pressure on the Indian youth to get good jobs in both the government and private sectors. But many times, they became scapegoats of the category system. In India, jobs are allotted according to the caste categories. As you know, the society is divided into General, OBC, SC and ST categories. When this is the case, the youth are unable to get jobs in the government sector.

Challenge for the youths.

1. Limited job opportunities - The ruling system is unable to provide job opportunities because of its high population rate.

2. Lack of skills - The present education system graduates and they are not skilled for the present-day requirements.

3. Incompetent education system - The present curriculum does not match the requirements of industrial work.

4. Creating a job - Job opportunities can bring drastic changes to solve the above issues.

5. Adding mental health in education - Our education system can give importance to mental health along with the curriculum.

Accepting technology :

The acceptance of technology can make a big change in the youth crisis. Now the world has become a global village. The online platforms and the digital equipment can help us a lot in quality education. The new tools can provide better job opportunities. Online courses can help the youth to acquire knowledge." If there is a will, there is a way", this famous quote can help Indian youths to find a way out from unemployment.

Improving self-skills:

Many of the Indians lack soft skills like communication in English. They want to show off their capabilities, but when they confront real-life situations, many of them are not able to express anything in English. Many of them have less command of the English language. This problem is mainly seen in the Northern part of India. Even though English is our official language, it is very difficult to handle when it comes to real life.

Lack of confidence :

As we have discussed in the previous paragraph, the base of education is not up to the mark. The comparison is more relevant in every nook and corner of India. Parents, Teachers and children have a mindset that education is to get jobs. They give only theoretical importance to education and not practical. The majority of youths are not able to speak a few sentences in public. Education means the overall development of a person. Confidence is not built in a day; it is a process of years."Rome is not built in a day"

Leadership qualities have to be nurtured along with teamwork. This will improve one's extracurricular skills. Activity-oriented education will help students to adapt to new situations.

Exposure to social media:

The responsible use of social media can make wonders in job opportunities and knowledge. In this situation, we need to understand the misuse of social media, too. The youth are becoming lazy and not ready to find their way out of the above explained problems.

Government startups:

The present government is trying its best to eradicate unemployment from society. For that, they have initiated many plans to address. For example National Skill Development Mission aims to increase vocational training and skills. Pradhan Mantri Kanshal Vikas Yogana is for youth skill training and startups in India to promote entrepreneurship and job creation.

Community-led initiatives also played a crucial role in supporting the Indian youths. There are many non-profit organisations that provide training and support to many. They also provide mental health training to the youths.

Migration :

People migrate to the cities and towns for better education and job opportunities. When the youth move alone to the cities without their family members, many of them are unable to cope with the new atmosphere and situations. In this case, the youth become lonely and gradually move to mental distress. They are not getting any family or social support. High living costs make them fall into more issues. They come to the cities, but the norms and customs also enable them to move ahead. Gradually, many of them get back to the villages or get engaged in anti - social activities in cities.

Vocational Trainings:

Vocational training can equip Indian youth with industry-related skills. This will change the face of the country. If these demands are met, the youth problems can be solved to an extent.

Awareness campaigns :

The Indian educational system is less important for mental health at the school and college levels. They are not provided with free-minded learning.

Role of parents :

In shaping a youth, the family and parents have an important role. A good family atmosphere has an important role in the life of a person. A successful youth, when he or she is in trouble, the family support will make a lot of difference for the youth. The support of the family and its help can frame a person with a good career.

Social media:

The impact of social media on Indian youth is a complex issue with both positive and negative effects. On the one hand, the social media platforms provide numerous pieces of information all under the Sun. On the other hand, the excess use of social media can lead to anxiety, loneliness and depression. If we don't have a mature mind to handle all these necessary evils, life will be hard. Many young Indians face cyberbullying. The influence of fake news and misinformation also leads the youth to another side of reality. This affects their day-to-day thinking levels.

Manual works:

When they fail to get white-collar jobs, they are forced to join manual labour. But they are not given proper safety measures and proper wages. When they are not provided with proper wages, they are forced to move to new jobs. In short, we can see that they are not secured with jobs.

Lack of guidance:

One of the main problems the Indian youth face is a lack of proper guidance from the family or from society. The main reason is the lack of education in the social environment. They are advised to go for engineering or medical fields. In the southern part of India, there are many engineering colleges that have been closing in the last one or two years. When people were having so much of a craze for engineering in the early 2000's, but now the youth are getting interested in different courses. The old educational thinking is leaving them behind.

Mental health :

Our educational system never tried to understand mental health at both the school and college levels. They always thought that its origin is from the family situation. Actually, it is also correct to an extent. But the mental pressure the children face from the educational system no one cares about. Mental issues are normalised as personal problems. It leads to increased isolation and worsening mental health.

Despite these challenges, the Indian youth is trying to overcome all these difficulties to achieve their goals to make India a developed nation by 2047.

Type of unemployment :

Disguised unemployment - We can see it in the villages. People are migrating to the towns, and in the villages, agricultural work also suffers. If they get enough laborers then the wages also are a problem.

Cause of unemployment - Rapid population growth is one of the reasons for unemployment in India. The country is developing day by day, but the young people are unable to engage in manufacturing because of the lack of job opportunities. Our educational system gives more concentration on theory than on practical. Our agricultural system is not competing with the world standards. 45 % percent of the workforce is engaged in agriculture, but the outcome is very low. Our culture is a consuming one. We import things rather than export things.

It affects people's day-to-day lives. It stops the growth of GDP, pand overty and inequality become very vivid in the society. Then social unrest and the increment of crime everywhere. Unemployment will increase the crime levels, and people will lose faith in the government.

Youth Education:

India has a large youth population. But their future lies in the quality education provided by the government. Youth is a big question mark for every country. If their education is not at a practical level, the whole system will fail. In the case of India, it is a big challenge. Every year, millions of its youth become graduates, but the old system is not able to engage them with jobs. Now it's time to think about quality and job-oriented education for the students.

For generations, the weather in India was a matter of routine conversation discussed casually in tea stalls, farming households, school assemblies, and railway platforms. Summers were expected to be hot, monsoons heavy, and winters brief. Today, that familiarity has disappeared. Weather is no longer a background condition of life; it has become a daily crisis shaping health, livelihoods, migration, education, and survival itself.

Across India, heatwaves scorch cities earlier each year, floods arrive without warning, cyclones intensify along coastlines, and erratic rainfall unsettles both urban and rural lives. Climate change, once seen as a distant or global issue, has entered the intimate spaces of ordinary Indians kitchens without water, classrooms without fans, hospitals overflowing during heat spells, and homes repeatedly rebuilt after floods.

This is not merely an environmental problem. It is a social, economic, and constitutional challenge, forcing India to confront questions of equity, preparedness, and justice in an age of climate uncertainty.

Heatwaves: The Slow Violence of Extreme Heat –

Mental justice refers to the recognition, protection, and promotion of psychological health and dignity. In a country where youth constitute nearly 34% of the population (UN Population Fund, 2022), ensuring their mental well-being is not just a health issue but a nation-building imperative. In India, mental health issues among youth are compounded by societal expectations, academic and career pressures, family dynamics, social hierarchies, and the rise of digital culture, creating a unique landscape for mental injustice.

Understanding Mental Justice in the Indian Context

Mental justice is broader than clinical mental health care. It involves:

Access to psychological support and counseling, regardless of socio-economic status or geographic location.
Cultural and social recognition of mental well-being as a fundamental right.
Protective measures against mental harm in schools, colleges, workplaces, and online spaces.

Yet, in a country as vast and diverse as India, democracy also breathes in quieter spaces in village meetings under banyan trees, in women’s self-help group gatherings, in student clean-up drives, and in farmers’ fields adapting to a changing climate. Here, democracy is not only about representation but about responsibility. It is about citizens responding to ecological crises with care, courage, and collective action.

As climate change deepens inequalities and threatens livelihoods, India’s most powerful climate responses are increasingly emerging from the ground up. These responses are not driven by formal authority but by lived experience. Ordinary people farmers, women, youth, fishers, waste workers are becoming climate citizens, shaping environmental governance through everyday decisions and community leadership.

Climate Change and Citizenship: Why the Ground Matters -

Care for water sources, forests, seeds, food, waste, and future generations. At the heart of this silent yet powerful form of environmental governance stand Indian women.

Across the country, women are emerging as architects of sustainability not through authority or force, but through responsibility, resilience, and collective action. From protecting forests and reviving rivers to managing waste and practising climate-resilient farming, women are translating constitutional ideals into lived reality. Their leadership is not always visible in headlines, yet it is foundational to India’s green transition.

This is the story of how Indian women are moving from Fundamental Rights enshrined in the Constitution to Fundamental Care practised on the ground shaping what can truly be called a Green Democracy.

Why Are Women Central to Sustainability in India ?

Women in India share a deep, everyday relationship with nature. They collect water, gather fuel, cultivate food, manage households, and care for community health. Climate change directly impacts these roles: longer walks for water, reduced forest resources, food insecurity, and increased health burdens.

Yet, instead of being passive victims, women have become frontline climate actors. Their solutions are often local, low-cost, and community-driven. Studies and development reports consistently show that when women lead environmental initiatives, outcomes are more sustainable and inclusive.

Women’s leadership also ensures intergenerational thinking, protecting resources not only for today, but for children yet unborn.
