Developing countries, especially China, led the clean energy charge but richer nations including the US and EU relied more than before on planet-warming fossil fuels for electricity generation.

Coal, a major contributor to global warming, was still the world’s largest individual source of energy generation in 2024, a position it has held for more than 50 years, according to the International Energy Agency.

Pakistan, for example, imported solar panels capable of generating 17 gigawatts (GW) of solar power in 2024, double the previous year and the equivalent of roughly a third of the country’s current electricity generation capacity.

That’s thanks to spectacular reductions in cost. Solar has seen prices fall a staggering 99.9% since 1975 and is now so cheap that large markets for solar can emerge in a country in the space of a single year, especially where grid electricity is expensive and unreliable.

Data centres are giant warehouses full of powerful computers used to run digital services from movie streaming to online banking, this website uses one (Although it’s a very efficient and renewable energy powered version).

Here at Green ISP we have been concerned about the environmental impact of Datacentres for the last 20 years, especially the energy demand and Carbon Footprint.

The majority are due to be built in the next five years. However, there are concerns about the huge amount of energy and water the new data centres will consume. Experts have warned it could drive up prices paid by consumers.

Projects backed by US technology giants are among the largest.
Blackstone Group is planning a £10bn AI data centre in Blyth, near Newcastle, covering 540,000 square metres across 10 buildings. Construction is expected to begin in 2031 and last over three years.

Local residents close to these new facilities could see household electricity bills rise due to local data centre operations. Dr Sasha Luccioni, AI and Climate Lead at Hugging Face, warns the UK could face such issues: “Average citizens could see their monthly bills go up by £15 because of these new data centres.” She describes the UK’s rollout schedule as “aggressive” and urges companies to shoulder the costs of the extra power they use.

This is going to place a massive strain on our ability to provide clean and renewable energy over the coming years. The growth in UK data centres could add 71 TWh (terawatt-hours) of electricity demand over the next 25 years, intensifying the need for clean power sources such as offshore wind.

To get an idea of how much that is, In 2024, the UK’s total electricity demand was 319 terawatt-hours, so almost one fifth more demand.

Green ISP raised this years ago, it’s been at breaking point recently, now with the advent of AI it’s going to get a LOT worse. this mass expansion of Datacentres needs to stop or new cooling methods.

One study estimates that AI-driven data centres could consume 1.7 trillion gallons of water globally by 2027.

The USA can’t now say it is a Democratic Country ridding the world of Socialism and dictatorships, this IS Socialism for the very wealthy and already powerful.

And we have all sleepwalked into it, the Left has not faced up to it’s true self and allowed this to creep in out of fear of doing the right thing for the people……

The Green party has a good chance of winning 4 seats in this election – Brighton Pavilion, where former party leader Caroline Lucas is standing down, and Bristol Central – and a smaller chance of winning a further two, Waveney Valley and North Herefordshire.

If you live in one of these constituencies and wish to evict the Tories, this is the most effective way to use your vote. That’s because, unlike most of us, you have a realistic chance of electing an MP who can speak for the people against plutocratic power. Don’t waste it.

Corporations have gone from one time projects to immortal masters of all humanity. Even pro capitalists should see this as a disgusting affront to all our freedom and well being.

Profit over people. I’ve been saying this about corporations for years. Very well reported, if only the main stream media were as good.

A lot of this is covered in the legendary Adam Curtis documentaries, and Naomi Klein covers what’s being spoken about with corporations enlisting government armies to quell uprisings in her book No Logo.
