While spinning round-about the social-media-spiral I came across an irresistible challenge posed by Innocentive, to improve the first 20 years of human health." Here is what I proposed:

Green Liberation Salon is a creative community health outreach program which transcends classes and borders to provide peri-natal through post-partum health services, and complementary/alternative health therapies to women and children. The “salon” is actually an extension of the inter-generational matriarchal support system which, when intact, cares for women and children when social circumstances or economic systems compound the challenges of bearing and raising healthy children, i.e., marital, housing, employment & childcare conflicts, separation, divorce, health crises, poverty, immigration, war, environmental disasters, displacement, misogyny, oppressive regimes, or religious laws.

ENVIRONMENTAL HEALTH

Green Liberation's virtual salon with 3-D chat-rooms designed as luxurious relaxation rooms, apothecary, and eco-educational games promote lifestyles of health and sustainability to women and children around the world, while also providing support, referrals, and connections to meet needs outside of Green Liberation Salon’s scope.

Services. The brick and mortar salons (actually recycled ISBUs & SIPs) provide familiar personal care services which are eco-friendly and completely replace the need for toxic salon services, i.e. hair processes, manicures, pedicures, petroleum- chemically-based treatments. The nature-oriented setting allows for a natural segue to Green Liberation’s environmental health services for women, which also address a variety of factors that impact pediatric health and child development.

Childcare. Non-profit and cooperative childcare makes attendance possible for mothers who attend and/or work at the salon. All the children who play in the "Green Room" while their moms attend the salon, will be exposed to a way of life which assumes stewardship of environmental health.

Alternative & Complementary Health Spa. One-on-one health risk and lifestyle assessment, ongoing health & lifestyle support, environmental health education and referral services. Birth control and counseling. Nutritional counseling, obesity prevention, treatment, support, and referrals. Natural pain alleviation, such as acupuncture, acupressure, therapeutic massage for oncology, women’s peri-natal, pre-natal and post-partum health; and to treat “symptomatic” pediatric conditions. Detoxification from environmental and chemical toxins, i.e. air pollution, water pollution, noise pollution, psychological pollution from primary or secondary environments; food and product pollution, from, for example chemically processed foods, chemical-laden personal care products, or regional environmental disasters. Sensory Therapies: sound, aroma, touch. Botanically-based therapies.

Pediatric Support from Infancy to 20~ Children may receive holistic health care at Green Liberation Salon from infancy on. Innovative, yet, ancient practice and wisdom is made available to babies and mothers, and babies without mothers…in an environmentally-healthy setting (green, natural, comfortable, non-medical). Babies without Borders: support and techniques for soothing, breastfeeding, feeding, weaning, transitioning infants and symptomatic children. Tips on Thriving: education about risks and prevention, as well as treatment for environmental illnesses based on regional and personal risk (genetic to social to economic factors), for example cancer, diabetes and heart disease.

Treatment for the symptoms of cancer and the side-effects of radiation and chemotherapy, i.e. pain, anxiety, loss of appetite, weakness. Indirect treatment of anti-social behaviors typical of children affected by ADHD, autism, and sensory processing disorder -- through supervised socialization of children at play in Green Liberation Salon’s dynamic, child-friendly setting, while mothers receive a dose of sustenance instead of the usual wallop of guilt, stress, and exhaustion for their efforts.

Recreation & Play. Green Liberation Salon’s unique concept and setting lends itself to imaginative play from computers in the Green Room, and the virtual salon to eco-educational software games. The green salon concept naturally translates into eco-friendly toys such as a Green Liberation Salon dollhouse, green tween and teen dolls who design/wear a green fashion line, eco-baby dolls, green construction kits for toddler builders, etc.

Green Room. For childcare during business hours. Regional hubs will have temperature controlled climbing apparatus adjacent to the green room, which doubles as a rental space for classes and meetings after-hours. Physical movement, not limited to yoga; prenatal classes, breastfeeding, feeding and weaning support, parenting classes, nutritional classes, environmental health education, and support groups: oncology, postpartum health, alcohol abuse, addictions, domestic abuse.

Referrals. Green Liberation Salon will receive high-risk referrals from obstetricians, oncologists, workplaces, colleges, high schools, mental health and crisis counselors, religious and other community support organizations; therefore these high-risk referrals might be paid for with national funds already set aside for women and children’s health; private fund-raising is an additional option to pay for short and long term care for high-risk groups – as treating these groups will have the most dramatically positive effect. As importantly, Green Liberation will refer clients to obstetricians, oncologists, jobs, educational resources, and other socio-economic specialists.

Products. Non-toxic, eco-friendly daily essentials which completely replace toxic products: hair care, skin care, personal hygiene; household: laundry and cleaning supplies, natural remedies to replace OTC drugs, supplements, herbs, and botanicals.

Opportunities. Mothers’ financial independence is often critical to their children’s health and safety. Green Liberation Salons create green jobs for women, young and old, skilled and unskilled; supports cooperative daycare for children; and arranges for education that aligns with women’s and children’s aspirations.

Additionally, the micro-financing of cottage industries for eco-friendly products: textiles, fashion, accessories, natural health remedies, all-natural beauty, health, personal care, cleaning products, and organic herb cultivation are examples of goods for which Green Liberation might also create a marketplace. Finally, each Green Liberation Salon is an opportunity for ownership of a green small business. Even small groups of women might purchase a salon.

Partnerships. Green Liberation would like to foster a childhood immunization program which ensures that the product does not also contain harmful byproducts causing worse side-effects than the eradicated disease. Green Liberation Salon does not claim a medical or scientific background, but would like to partner with those who do.

Research & Development. Green Liberation Salon’s unique, yet re-creatable setting should be an excellent life lab to study environmental, sociological, cultural, pediatric phenomena.

The current model is planned for the United States, Canada, United Kingdom, Australia and and is easily adaptable to meet women’s needs in emerging markets: India and China. I certainly hope a safe haven for pregnant and postpartum women, and at-risk children, will be tolerated by even the most oppressive regimes in Afghanistan, Iran, Africa. I envision the salons as bomb shelters sprinkling harsh terrains: a utilitarian blend of prefabricated freight containers & recycled SIPs.

Green Liberation Salon supports progressive social causes: children’s rights, women’s rights, civil rights, environmental rights, and environmental justice. Green Liberation Salon’s marketing and promotional strategy includes a green radio show, and an internet television show featuring mothers, babies and children around the world who most need and receive Green Liberation Salon’s holistic services.

Phase I includes the virtual salon and a single physical prototype which will provide beauty, health, and childcare, and LOHAS classes. The site will dual-serve as R & D space and media outlet. Phase II builds US regional hubs: LA, NYC, Austin, Canada, and franchises on order. The combination of regional, and international hubs are projected to facilitate the spread of environmental health facilities around the world.

I've been waiting my whole life for my country's transition to clean energy. When I was around nine I read a children's magazine about "disposable" products such as lighters and diapers. The main idea was, if we go in the "disposable" direction as mass consumers, we are going to find ourselves in big trouble. I never forgot it.

My mom was liberated when I was 12. She enjoyed wearing a large button encouraging uppity women to unite, and sent me to school with a home-made one that said, "Billie Jean's King!" She could bang some pots and pans, alright. She was an amazing cook and knew everything about nutrition. Unfortunately, she and Adele Davis, our main source of nutritional advice, died of cancer. I have a fear of cancer and it has really been increasing!

As a young adult I began shopping at health food stores and continued to read avidly about diet and nutrition, which of course lead to information about food production, commercialization, mass consumerism, and I connected the dots to pollution.

Over a Christmas holiday spent at my parents I pulled Earth in the Balance, by Al Gore, from the shelves of finished books in the guestroom. I wasn't at all surprised by Gore's findings, but I was blown away by the courage it took for a privileged member of the establishment to expose the devastating truth about our commercially motivated, not to mention, revered "way of life."

Let me be clear: I'll tolerate religious differences and differences of opinion all, day, long. But don't expect me to feign tolerance of anyone who deliberately denies physical evidence--critical information--simply because it doesn't bolster religious sentiments or the pocketbooks of political affiliations.

"Conservatives" have rhetoric, but government and science has data from the Idustrial Revolution to date! Hard numbers--which the polluters said we, the tree-huggers, hippies, freaks, you know, us un-believables, had to collect before they would stop their mass pollution. Well? I don't know about you but I don't expect Big Oil or Big Coal or Big Corps in general to give up the ghost anytime soon.

So if I strike you as impatient, or even rude, you should know I've been waiting my whole life for US society to start practicing what it preaches. Our wonderful way of life doesn't depend on denial, it depends on everybody taking their hands away from their eyes, ears and mouths.

Shouldn't we all cast our vote for health on earth?

Otherwise, the battle to reduce health disparities between upper and lower socioeconomic classes will be lost -- and our planet's temperature will continue to rise.

Something serendipitous happened in the process of filing for Green Liberation Brand. I described my eco-friendly beauty, health, and household products in too general of terms. I hadn't realized that the US Patent & Trademark Office would require me to specify every single product I planned to carry under my brand. It was a now or never situation - - so - - what didn't I include! I think consumers should be able to choose an eco-friendly version of all of it, don't you?

When a customer purchases a product it should be like a handshake which implies a fair exchange. I promise that I haven't polluted the people's air, land and water to produce my effective products; nor do they provide exposure to harmful ingredients. I'm through with so-called angel investors. They've got no nose for business...or elitism has blinded them. And maybe I'm too proud, but I'm down on the banks, too.

Green Goddess Salons, llc is seeking capitalists with enough foresight to saddle up now. Understandably, really, starting up a typical salon may not sound very interesting, and whoever heard of starting a franchise prior to a prototype? Yes, we'd better get started, because unfortunately, there will never be enough Green Liberation Salons. Every town and Any town needs at least one to serve and support its mothers, health-conscious women, and our stressed-out, 21st c. children. The fact is: an international green salon franchise franchise can not be wrong.

Yes, I'm open to seed capital from the right investors, and banks. The financial requirement to fund both the prototype and the foundation of the franchise is minimal relative to the vast market Green Liberation Salons will serve: females 0-110, and our sons for as many years as they want, all across the US, Canada, UK and Australia...for a start. The cost of commercial property poses the biggest challenge. But the timing could be a lot worse.

As for franchise sales, I know for a fact there are women who will move heaven and earth to buy a Green Liberation Salon, because I'm one of them. I'm happy to invest my tidy inheritance and rather measly retirement fund in a turn-key business that includes a green commercial building. It's not too hard to imagine how many women will recognize the extraordinary added value of self-selected, cooperative childcare in the Green Room during long business hours, not to mention a cleaning crew. Now add daily left-overs from the salon's organic menu. With or without children, the option of a second story flat to lease or set up housekeeping above their business will resonate with scores of women around the world.

Green Liberation Salons provide a green, healthy alternative to all of the above. Since massage is such an essential part of physical care, we offer an entire menu of therapeutic massages, and specialize in prenatal, infant, and oncology massage. I've created a baby spa package, and we offer unique services for women who want to splurge. Green Liberation Salon gift cards make a wonderful baby shower gift. Encouragement to go green for the sake of our kids, our health and our planet is becoming ever-present. Earth Day, Mother’s Day, and Birth Day gift cards are guilt-free. Each Green Liberation Salon provides a comfortable, secure space for preggies, women, and children.
