As the political landscape has forever changed since 2018, this election coincides with the dilemma and juncture of every normal people like you and me. While the politic can be drudgery and exasperating, the signs of a maturing democracy is still something we can look forward for. Long gone the single or two-party system, as 2022 will be another intense three-party fight we may look forward for.

STAR WARS THE FORCE AWAKENS

The hype is real and its existence is now fully justified. The seventh "Star Wars" film, subtitled "The Force Awakens", marks the return to its great form and gives a much needed esteem for the franchise, which were once also enjoyed by the original trilogy some four decades ago. And it is in the hands of the acclaimed director J.J. Abrams, co-writer Lawrence Kasdan and Michael Arndt, where this movie springs to life and excitements, even if it means to stuff it all over again with "A New Hope". At least the disastrous prequel trilogy is now far behind us.

Sets some 30 years after the fall of the evil Galactic Empire in "Return of the Jedi", the remnant of the defeated faction rises as the new First Order. Once again they maintain their desire to rule the vast, vast galaxy; and that evil agenda presents an imminent threat to the newly restored Republic, established and lead by the old Rebels (now the Resistance force). The two sides have a similar plan - to find the last master Jedi, Luke Skywalker, who has gone missing after a terrible tragedy that affects him emotionally. No doubt, Luke may be the remaining one who will tips the balance of the Force. But there is also an awakening somewhere!

Aforementioned, "The Force Awakens" is a strong return to the stuffs we all loved about from the original trilogy. The basic story template, as laid out by the writing trio, is heavily borrowed from the original trilogy. It is not easy to miss these familiar elements at all, and you will certainly find yourself occasionally cringed to almost all of the references and Easter eggs. As one might argue how it is a remake of "A New Hope" and "Empire Strikes Back"; but even with these formulaic approaches and constant recycle of materials being thrown into the mixing bowl, the result is still thoroughly solid, enjoyable and serviceable framework.

After all, the new installment also feels more like an upgrade over the classics. The visual effect is stunning and breathtaking to savour, especially the one scene involving the iconic Millennium Falcon zigzagging around the tight corners trying to evade the enemies. There is also a notable scene when the Resistance arrives to attack, swiftly flying low over the lake of Takodana - that is equally majestic. The pacing is also much tighter and dashing, albeit that can be a bit difficult to follow at times. It certainly does not make for a strong case, considering how this new installment is perhaps, too secretive.

One observation noted (also much of criticism) is how convenient certain part of the story is. Recently I discovered that these convenient parts of the story can be “answered” – thanks to the arrival of novelization and audio book. But the point being why left it so ambiguously in the movie for casual audiences?

Either way, J. J. Abrams has conceived a very interesting continuation to the “Star Wars” franchise and it seems that “The Force Awakens” is going to ride the nostalgia with an excellent seventh installment. “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” is an awakening of the stuffs we loved about the franchise, with an addition of favourite new characters, and dazzling visual. REVIEW: THE HUNGER GAMES MOCKINGJAY PART 1

The third chapter of The Hunger Games movie franchise is without a doubt, one of the most anticipated movies of the year, but the problem is right there on the studio’s decision to split the final chapter into two. From the general perspective, there were already two reasons on why “Mockingjay Part 1” is going to get hurt. First, there is a sense of incomplete story that follows with the sense of anticlimax. And two, we see a tamer side of the characters because politics and propagandas are all over them. Even if the fans do approve this, Hollywood's attempt to milk in more cash due to its success will less likely to make “Mockingjay Part 1” a more competent movie. It becomes very clear by now, much like what we have seen Harry Potter or Twilight, this particular chapter only serves to set up things in the last instalment. So we have a “set-up movie” concept now?

In “Mockingjay Part 1”, we continue the story from the point we were left behind. We all know by now, that there already senses of uprising and unrest looming due to totalitarian rule adopted by the Capitol, but none of rebelling districts are united yet. When Katniss Everdeen (Jennifer Lawrence) and her gang of allied tributes committed an act of defiance against the Capitol during the recent Quarter Quell, the act which was televised across Panem, was seen as a turning point. President Snow (Donald Sutherland) was obviously not pleased and he ordered the attacks to curb the attempted uprisings. By this time, Katniss’ home soil of District 12 was destroyed, Peeta (Josh Hutcherson) was captured by the Capitol and the rebels are now hiding in the District 13.

Now operating from the underground fortress of a district once thought to have been wiped out by the Capitol, the rebels and the military under the command of President Coin (Julianne Moore) are planning for their next moves to strike back and brings an end to the Capitol's oppressive system. The savvy strategist Plutarch (Philip Seymour Hoffman) and President Coin intend to use Katniss as their face weapon of propaganda war against the Capitol, to spur the oppressed civilians to rise up against the Capitol. While Katniss has some initial reservation about the plan, she received helps from her now-sober former mentor Haymitch (Woody Harrelson) and bubbly Fashionista Effie Trinket (Elizabeth Banks).

The absence of the savage game-theme that gave the first two instalments their supply of entertainment and well-staged action, is quite noticeable on “Mockingjay Part 1”. Much like the “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows” and “Twilight: Breaking Dawn”, the split in the final instalment produces very different two halves – a first half of heavy on the setup that leads to an unsatisfactory and awkward pre-conclusions (or something like a cliff-hanger), and a second half that walks into a fire-cracking, spectacular finale. Supposedly in “Mockingjay Part 1”, the even darker tone of an already darker tone movie comes out being slow-paced and offers very little in terms of the bigger picture of the trilogy. If you are expecting story development that at least ends with heavy punches, you will be left dismay. There may be lacking in the actions, but director Francis Lawrence brings some sort of gravitas in the first half of the instalment with suitable personal and psychological subheadings. Hence, most of the screen time is there trying to help Katniss to recover from her own dreadful nightmare, the devastation of her home town and reluctance to lead a face game revolution.

The plot in “Mockingjay Part 1” is not only about Katniss’ personal issues, whose involvement in the movie is pretty passive, but once again also involve the political and propaganda game, albeit a little tamer. The result is not entirely disappointing, but is a step down from the bigger, bolder and fiery approach they employed in “Catching Fire”. The tug-of-war intensity between the totalitarian in the Capitol and the resistance in District 13, does not seem to spark much more interesting speculative stories than the manipulative nature of the guerilla tactic. For this aspect, we see Hoffman’s role Plutarch is given with that emphasis to shine with wits, but it also hinders the prospect of having Coin, Gale and Cressida (Natalie Dormer) with more roles on it. Nevertheless, screenwriters Peter Craig (The Town) and Danny Strong (The Butler) who took over from the Academy Awards writing partners of Simon Beaufoy and Michael Arndt, still do a good job on the scripts and dialogues, and also able to churn out a relatively compelling story to follow.

Despite having good script, great themes and excellent ensemble of casts with plenty of Oscar belt in between them; “Mockingjay Part 1” feels like a grounded movie that is still struggling to find its own direction in the wake of the new horizon in the series. At least, the lack of actions and slow pace story are compensated with evoking sense of hope that something big is about to happen in the next 12 months. B

R.I.P. NEIL ARMSTRONG

Former astronaut and more famously known as the first man ever in the history to step on the soil of the moon, Neil Armstrong will forever be a figure icon that leaves a huge impact on the aerospace exploration. It comes to my attention that Armstrong has passed away at the age of 82. According to the news report, "Armstrong underwent a heart-bypass surgery earlier this month, just two days after his birthday on August 5, to relieve blocked coronary arteries."

In 1969, Armstrong commanded the Apollo 11 mission along side Buzz Aldrin and Michael Collins, in an expedition to the moon. Armstrong created history by becoming the first human being ever to set foot on the moon on July 20, 1969. A man known for his work ethic, spirit and devotion, remarked one of the most popular quote ever - "That's one small step for a man, one giant leap for mankind" right after setting his foot on the dusty rock of the earth's very own and only satellite.

Following his retirement, Armstrong has lived silently in Ohio with his wife, Carol Held Knight. Armstrong had three children with his first wife, Janet Shearon. He is survived by his two sons, Eric and Mark. His daughter, Karen, died of pneumonia in 1962.

What would your 3D world would be with LG Optimus 3D?

Any answer is accepted, really. However, I'm sure that out of the little cliché when we talk about 3D, we always picture the following scenario. Le you are wearing that 3D glass, holding that bucket of caramel-flavored popcorn and with that exciting feeling, walking into the cinema hall to catch that 3D movie. That kind of feeling feels exactly like this....

Okay, that LG Optimus 3D is indeed a catchy phrase that will instantly makes you draw a convenient reference to this.

What if I tell you that is not all about it?

WHAT IS A 3D?

As we have known it, 3D is a form of projection view that combines three different dimensions of height, width and depth into our perspective. In industry, it refers to the imaging technique that creates or enhances the illusion of depth in an image by offering two offset images separately to the left and right eyes. Okay, so much for the technicality but then, how does LG Optimus 3D fit into my world?

Over the past weeks, I was heavily involved in this student symposium that aims to raise awareness in regards to global climate changes among the chemical engineering students nationwide. We are currently in the planning phase to draw out brain juice for some effective idea and thoughts ahead of the symposium in December. This year's symposium will carry the theme CLIMATE REVOLUTION which seems timely as we are now experiencing the global climate change and in the greatest humanitarian efforts to tackle this. Here is our (unfinished) blog that you can check out in the future. With the help of LG Optimus 3D, it becomes apparent that this great device would be an useful to capture our thoughts. Here's why?

MY WORLD WITH LG OPTIMUS 3D?

I have an idea of going out to the world to capture the moment of life. In an effort to change the mentality, I would not be easy but it is not impossible. For once, all these years since we began to chase that fool’s gold with rapid industrialization and ‘raping’ our Mother Earth for its resources, we begin to realize the dreadful truth.

Sadly but true, now all that I can see with my world is all about destruction. THIS IS WHAT MY WORLD WOULD BE WITHOUT LG OPTIMUS 3D….

With LG Optimus Prime 3D, I am hoping that I can utilize its magnificent 3D-fueled camera to capture and to shoot my documentary that I have planned. Documentary in 3D? YES, you heard me right.

The documentary, if planned and shot well will be a powerful medium to empower our message to the global citizen. I already have all the necessary idea in place right now, just the execution is far within our reach.

So, look at around you! See the height of the problem? See the depth of the problem? Think of the width solutions yet? Then, let’s capture the REALITY and TRUTH about our ailing earth. Let’s capture a 3D documentary video to highlight the uniqueness of the presentation. Let's share it to the world. Let’s make it a viral presentation.

LESSON 2: LET'S CODE MORE WITH TABLING THE OUTPUTS

Recall that from the first post, we have already:

Algorithm for any program should consists of three main sections - input, computation and output
Basic syntax for mathematical operation
Solving the assignment given

For this post, we will discuss on more coding.

P/S: Before I proceed, I would like to make some correction. From Figure 1.4, the semicolon (;) at the end of the last code line is preferably dropped to result in automation of output display when running the program.

Here is the new assignment given this week:

QUESTION:
Write a Matlab program, using a script M-file, that calculates the velocity and acceleration of an aircraft at time 0 to 120 seconds with increments of 10 seconds. Display the results in a table of time, velocity and acceleration.

The following are the equations to estimate the velocity and the acceleration of the aircraft:
velocity=0.00001*time.^3−0.00488*time.^2+0.75795*time+181.3566
acceleration=3−0.000062velocity.^2

NOTE: I will leave it to you to solve the algorithm and the flowchart before doing the Matlab code.

Here's how to do your simple Matlab code:

1. It is advised that you start your fresh code with the keyword clear as has been explained in the first post (Figure 2.1).

2. You are now required to define the input as t (time). #Suggested code can be obtained in the Figure 2.1. You can use t = input ('Insert range of time in s: '); as well although that would require you to key in

3. You are now required to compute the variable V (velocity) and A (acceleration) using the formula given in the question and with the variables t that you have defined as the input in step (2) (Figure 2.1). The code is as follows:

V = 0.00001*t.^3 - 0.00488*t.^2 + 0.75795*t + 181.3566;
A = 3 - 0.000062*V.^2;

TIPS: For computation of power, please make sure that you inserted .^ instead of ^ only. I am not sure what is the explanation but it seems that the latter won't work when running the program.

4. You need to define your output (or display or print). The question requires you to compute Velocity and Acceleration as the result, then display them in the table form (Figure 2.2). Therefore, the code is as follows:

5. To display the output in the form of table with headings on top of it, use the following additional codes (Figure 2.2):

disp (' Time Velocity Acceleration ');

disp (table);

TIPS: The difference between step (4) and the additional step (5) is that step (4) results in tabulation of matrix that does not have the headings 'time', 'velocity' and 'acceleration' above the data when running the code.

LESSON 1: CODING A SIMPLE MATLAB CODE

Greetings and welcome to Bern’s section on the basic computation programming for engineers. In this first article that I have wrote for this special section on my blog, I would like to talk about constructing a simple computer language code using the Matlab for a common mathematical question. If you are my JKKP classmates, I am sure that you have the question for the assignment given by Dr Meor with you. If you are not, here is the question stipulated:

QUESTION:
The area of a triangle having side lengths a, b and c is:
Area = √(s(s-a)(s-b)(s-c)) - where; s = (a+b+c)/2

Write a computer code (Matlab) to prompt user for the three sides of a triangle and then compute and print the area using the relationship above. You are expected to submit the algorithm, flowchart and the computer (Matlab) code.

NOTE: I will leave it to you to solve the algorithm and the flowchart.

Here's how to do your simple Matlab code:

1. Open your Matlab software. Now, you are at the command window.

2. Type edit and enter. Now you have open the editor window.

Please note that the editor is the place you do the coding. The command window can be used to do so too, as well as served as a place for checking and experimenting. Analyze the question and do the proper algorithm before you start the coding. The algorithm should have the following:

Input - you are required to name the input A, B and C; as well as to define the S (I'm using capital letter here)
Computation - you are required to compute AREA
Output - you are required to determine the output, in this case is the AREA

3. First step; it is advised that you start your fresh code with the keyword clear (Figure 1.1).
TIPS: 'Clear' erases any existing variables and helps to reduce risk of errors that may arise.

4. Second step; you are now required to define the inputs. We have earlier, determined that we need to put three different inputs of a, b and c to initiate computation. Suggested codes are displayed in Figure 1.1 below:

The codes are divided into two distinguished commands here as in black and purple-colored text. The black-colored code defines the variables A, B and C or the side lengths of the triangle as the input. The purple-colored code, meanwhile is a description of the input variables that you can fill in when you run the code on the command window (we will get back to this later).

5. Third step; you will need to define and compute the variable S using the formula given in the question and with the variables A, B and C that you have defined as the input in step (4). The code is as follows:

S = (A+B+C)/2;

TIPS: Semi-colon (;) is inserted at the end of each code line (if necessary only) to stop the program from auto-computing that particular formula on that line. It may not be critical in the editor window but it will be in the command window.

6. Fourth step; you are now required to insert the computation code to compute area of the triangle based on the variables A, B, C and S. Use variable AREA to represent area. The code is as follows:

AREA = sqrt (S*(S-A)*(S-B)*(S-C));

TIPS: Figure 1.2 below shows the syntax for some basic mathematical operations:

7. The fifth step will be that you need to define your output (or display or print). The question requires you to compute AREA as the result. Therefore, the code is as follows:

Output = AREA;

8. There is no exact syntax code for stop here. Leaving it as it is should be subtle. Please note that adding stop or end at the end of the whole coding may causes error. End syntax should only used to close a loop or repetitive conditioning. After doing steps (1) to (7), your code should look something like the one displayed in Figure 1.3.

9. Save this file to your proper directory on the computer. For mine, I will save it as "AreaTriangle2" and will be saved to the Document directory. On the top of the editor window, Matlab will usually show the location of your saved file in within the directory of files (Figure 1.4).

10. Now, back to your command window. Type the name of the code file you have just saved. If you have type the name of the file correctly, you will get something as in Figure 1.5. If not, change the director or current folder.

11. Recall from step (4) about the purple-colored text. On the command window, you will know see the instruction "insert an integer for a". Type the value of side length a as the input for A then press enter. Do the same for B and C. For this example, I will insert A = 20, B = 10 and C = 15 (Figure 1.6).

12. If you have get your code correct, you should be able to get the AREA correctly. Type output and press enter. The output is the computed area of the triangle. You can always hit your calculator to check the answer (Figure 1.7). You can try with different values for A, B and C.

Reason number three - it is more 'multitask-friendly' since it is supported with a blazing rapid 1.5 GHz dual core processor that allows it to think faster. Do I need the reason number four? MUSIC TALK: BRUNO MARS AND COLDPLAY

It's a rather cool day. Raindrops fall so heavily that I forgot to tell you guys how much I have been missing the day when I use this keyboard to do some scribbling for this blog (as well as the other blog - the movie one). The huge lumps of engineering-degree-seeking assignments have take a lot of toll on my blogging life. It's that Wednesday again, when out of the sudden (not really) that I want to talk about music.

Oh yes, the first thing is about Bruno Mars and Twilight. Well, since Paramore did some 'Decode' for Twilight, while Death Cab for Cutie wanted you to 'Meet Me on the Equinox', Bruno Mars has joined the rank of artistes whom will headlining the soundtrack for Twilight movie. Yes, Breaking Dawn Part 1 is coming out in the United States this week that Bruno Mars decided to contribute one of his original song-writing piece "It Will Rain" into the soundtrack. How appropriate? The weather in Seattle (where Twilight is set is always in high damp and moisture!!). Here's the official video that you can view below. One thing for sure, the Youtubers are hot on topic in regards to the female lead in the video - she is ugly according to them!

Next, a month after the release of Coldplay's 'Mylo Xyloto', I am still contemplating on whether to buy the album or not. Previously, I am so occupied that I do not have time to check it out when it arrived on the CD rack on October 24th but since I am already desperately needing some cochlear-dosage of Coldplay, I really need it now. Exams are just around the corner. So, should I fork out RM41 for the new album or just resorting to 'pirate' it? What do you think?

HAPPY BIRTHDAY FREDDIE MERCURY

Every year, September 5th is the day when all the music lovers, enthusiasts and Queen's fans around the world gather together to celebrate what is been the birthday of the legendary rock singer Freddie Mercury. The front-man, lead vocalist and the pianist for one of the most celebrated rock band in the history - Queen; is still a mysterious figure, well-respected singers of his time as well as the controversial one. Today, in the year 2011, if he is still here with us, he would have been 65.

Queen Official has released a special video to coincide today's event with a six-minute video with cuts of interviews and portions of "My Melancholic Blues" and "Made In Heaven".

Although I was not born earlier than the day they started to rock the world on, I have been familiarizing myself with Queen's musics all thanks to my uncle. He is a Queen's fan as well and for all these years, I have been listening to their songs. To sum it all up - Queen is full of catchy while rhythmic; mysterious yet meaningful tenor of songs that inspire its listener! Alas, Queen's survival in music has been much on a clinging rope since Mercury passed away in 1991, when I was only six.

To celebrate the day, I have decided to dedicate with my music player been tuned it all up and loud as the Queen's musics will be playing for most of the day. I am not the only one, for sure and of course, as million of others will be flocking their way over to Google's home page to experience not any of the Google Doodle has ever done before. For this special day, Google holds a wonderful tribute to Freddie Mercury by replacing the title block with an impressive HTML5/Flash presentation of Queen's 1979 song "Don't Stop Me Now". That song has been a huge hit with plenty of cult following and placement in the culture as it has been selected as accompanying theme for lots of advertisements. Personally, I love the song and of course the presentation. (Note: In case Google has difficulty loading it, there is a Youtube video already in place for which you can view below):

Freddie Mercury was born as Farrokh Bulsara, a Parsi (Persian) in a Zoroastrian family on this day in 1946 in Gujarat, India. Friends from the time remember him as a quiet and shy young man who showed a great deal of interest in music. However, Freddie is blessed despite spending his early life travelling with his family to Bombay, Zanzibar and London; for that it shapes Freddie into a soul with rich cultural mixture and incisive rhythm in singing. He joined guitarist Brian May and drummer Roger Taylor in 1970 to form Queen. Since their amazing success that sprouted to life in 1974, Freddie is well-known not only for his amazing crystal tenor voice, but also for his talent in song writing and a live performer that captivates his audiences. He is natural. He is not like any performer these days. He sells his voice rather than misguiding it into inappropriate agenda.

In 1975, Freddie wrote "Bohemian Rhapsody" - a six-part musical pieces believed to be about his life into a record breaking hit. The song was a huge success that eventually lead Queen into an international stardom. While it was huge in UK, the song only began to become popular following its feature in 1992's film 'Wayne's World'. "Bohemian Rhapsody", according to Freddie, "It's one of those songs which has such a fantasy feel about it. I think people should just listen to it, think about it, and then make up their own minds as to what it says to them... "Bohemian Rhapsody" didn't just come out of thin air. I did a bit of research although it was tongue-in-cheek and mock opera. Why not?" Till this day, no one is certain what the song carries about, but "Bohemian Rhapsody" is a perfect example on how widely ranged Freddie is in terms of song writing. It infuses classical, instrumental, contemporary pop ballad and rock into a musical. Now, I remembered how this song was used in my school's choir group (my school's Glee version!) to be used in various choir competition.

As a live performer on stage, Freddie Mercury is that one-man whom will steal the limelight. His powerful vocal and brilliant connection with his fans are the keys to success. Just look at this 1985's Live Aid performance and witness yourself. It might be odd how a man whose signature is in the later years combing his gel hair fro-to-back, wearing chest revealing singlet (it appears so) and holding a "bottomless microphone stand" could charm you. Oh boy, Freddie Mercury did. In the Live Aid video below, the first of five parts show Freddie Mercury and the band performing "Bohemian Rhapsody" and "Radio Ga Ga" in front of 72,000 spectators in Wembley Stadium. Even Elton John admitted that Queen has stole the show and rocked the house.

The other Queen's most successful hits include "We Will Rock You", "We Are The Champion" and "Crazy Little Thing Called Love".

In 1987, it is believed at that time when Freddie was first diagnosed with AIDS. Despite his illness, Freddie and the inner circle of friends whom he trusted have again and again denied the fact but speculations rife as Freddie's public appearance has became scarce in 1990. For the last two years of his life, he was living in reclusion. On November 23, 1991, Freddie released a press release by saying:

Following the enormous conjecture in the press over the last two weeks, I wish to confirm that I have been tested HIV positive and have AIDS. I felt it correct to keep this information private to date to protect the privacy of those around me. However, the time has come now for my friends and fans around the world to know the truth and I hope that everyone will join with me, my doctors, and all those worldwide in the fight against this terrible disease. My privacy has always been very special to me and I am famous for my lack of interviews. Please understand this policy will continue.

When words came out with his official statement to confirm that he has AIDS, it was all too late. Barely 24 hours after that announcement, he died in his private home due to bronchial pneumonia as a complication of AIDS. Despite his death, Freddie Mercury remains as one of the most influential rock singers of all time. He may be dead but his musics will live on.

TIPS ON REVERTING BACK TO THE "OLD" FACEBOOK STYLES

There are plenty of negative reactions regarding the new Facebook Chat service ever since it made into effect last week. All the 'chaos' on the web-o-sphere are pointing on the specific downsides of the new feature and also the ugliness of the new FB Chat. Multiple page insisting their hatred on the new Facebook Chat has emerged over the last few days and the number of 'likes' are increasing as many as how Google Plus gained 10 million users in such a short time. Well, that's metaphor anyway. So, you do not like the Facebook Chat. Of course, why the hell do you need a hanging sidebar chat area on the right? Then, why do you need Facebook to recommend who you should chat with?

On top of that, Facebook has nothing but an annoyance to its users with the introduction of several redesign features. The recent introduction of new Chat is a fine example of that. Previously, Facebook has enrolled new form of photo viewing in theater mode which eek a lot of users (it looks fine with me) and also the recently enrolled facial recognition upon photo upload. Absolut Vodka, the Swedish pride

COCKTAIL MIXING AND TASTING SESSION

It was a pleasure attending such a simple yet thoughtful cocktail mixing and tasting session last Saturday with fellow bloggers. I am pretty sure many have shared their thoughts about it. Here's my own's scribble of mine. It was actually my second time (only) attending such session event where the opportunity to witness the mixologist skillfully mixing the favorite and luscious cocktails from scratch recipes is well beyond any words of random and exciting description.

Thanks to Elwyn's courteous invite, I was able to tag Evelyn along for whom she will be my photographer of the night. The event was held at View Rooftop Bar at G Tower beginning at 8pm. It was also my first time visiting the bar and I was elated with the outcome of my attendance of the event. If you are wondering how to get there, some instructions will be given at the end of this post.

IT REMINDS ME OF HOME

I was bedazzled by interior setting. Unlike any other bars in town, View Rooftop Bar has a very exquisite taste to resemble a modern home. It comes to not surprise that the setting itself resembles your own private mini bar at home, indulging a fusion of contemporary and futuristic layout. Indeed, it gives the guests the exact senses of feeling at home, pampering their fatigue minds with a glass of favorite mixture of cocktail to quench your throat with sleazy and temperate electronic music to hit the eardrums. Smooth and silky. Revitalizing yet laid back. What follows are the embedded simple slideshow that I have created to enable you to preview the actual sensual mood of the bar itself. Like they always said, a picture tells a thousand words uniquely to its viewer.

BEFORE WE QUENCH ALL THE SIX

The suave mixologists of View Rooftop Bar have prepared six savory cocktails for our tasting and review that night. The band of expert in mixture of desired flavor and savory is headed by Mr Rizal Junior, the bar manager cum head mixologist. The band performed an over-round demonstration that requires not only exquisite skills; but also strong mental test of acquiring the exact ingredients, vigorous hand muscle to shake the drinks up in a resemblance of 'heart shape' and on top of all, the heart to produce a fine mixture. In the end of the day, witnessing how the mixologist performed from their counter makes me impressed as much as seeing an international circus live!

Before the mixing was done, a toast of dry Vodka is a tradition that will never lost. A customary of salutation and desires. I was made to understand by one of the mixologist that the primary ingredient in their recipe of cocktails is Absolut Vodka. The Swedish version of worldwide recognized vodka leaves a palatable taste that lingers with amazement.

THE TESTAMENTS

I have the privilege of able to taste all six cocktails prepared that night. The inability to get up close or standing right in front of the mixologists are never an excuse for me to tap in when ever they performed the demonstration. I was lucky to have tested all the six and what you will read next are based on personal opinions. No one's taste buds are the same with another anyway.

All six drinks were found in their list of menu; in fact are also the most popular mixtures in the bar and even elsewhere. There were:

(1) Absolut Strawberry Basil Smash
A cocktail band consisting of 2 shots (50ml) of Absolut Vodka, 4 shots (100ml) of lemon juice, strawberries and muddled basil leaves atop, served in chill and prepared via vigorous shaking to the essence. It is my ultimate favorite cocktail of the night. It is well balanced on the tongue with no overwhelming taste from the Vodka or the strawberry. It is also refreshing and savory grand on the silver plater.

(2) Absolut Pineapple Cardamon Martini

Mixing the ingredients of 2 shots (50ml) of Absolut Vodka, 2 shots (50ml) of pineapple juice, a quarter to half shot of cardamon sweet syrup for extra sensation and three cardamon seeds atop, served in chill and prepared via vigorous shaking to the essence. It is a great rendition of martini that uniquely presented with cardamon, a common ingredient in curry making. The taste is effectively and strongly affected by the cardamon which leaves a tingling sense of juicy salivary effects from the 'curry element'.

(3) Absolut Cinnamon Martini

This alternate version of Apple Strudel Martini is made from 2 shots (50ml) of Absolut Vodka, half of a green apple, a quarter to half shot of sugar syrup, half a shot (15 ml) of lemon juice and a pinch of cinnamon powder atop, served in chill and prepared via vigorous shaking to the essence. The decision to add green apple into this cocktail is rather a good call because of the implicit taste arisen from the taste buds. It is also an explicit example of tantalizing the traditional mixture of apple and cinnamon beyond the customary by leaving a great desire of good taste. I personally loved this drink because am a cinnamon lover myself.

(4) Absolut Apple Rosemary Martini

This drink is a derivation of normal Rosemary Martini, but there's a catch. It is made from 2 shots (50ml) of Absolut Vodka, 4 shots (100ml) of lemon juice, a quarter to half shot of sugar rosemary syrup, a shot of apple juice and decorated with springy rosemary leaves atop, served in chill and prepared by vigorous shaking to its essence. Pretty much like the Cinnamon Martini, this one is overwhelmed by the fragrant and satisfying aura of the rosemary leaves. It comes out as one of the most interesting cocktail of the night, blended with exotic and wildly lingering of nature in well-balance drink. My second best shot of the night!

(5) Absolut Passion Tini

The night continues with another refreshing fruit cocktail - this time from one of my least favorite fruit, passion fruit. Easily combining 2 shots (50ml) of Absolut Vodka, a shot of passion fruit juice, a shot of lemon juice, half a shot (15ml) of vanilla syrup and decorated with a vanilla bud on the side; this is as exotic and as bizarre to me as it appeared very bold. While I do not really enjoy passion fruit in general, I am somehow attracted to the richness in well-balanced flavor and strong natural vanilla essence that truly smashing. It's a shame that I have yet to get myself fond with this drink.

(6) Absolut South Beach

Hailed as the 'vodka' version of mojito by simply replacing it with rum; was made from 2 shots (50ml) of Absolut Vodka, a shot (25ml) of lemon juice, a shot of sugar syrup and mint leaves atop. If you are not a fan of the Cuban rum, you should try this since Absolut Vodka has a much pleasant taste. This drink is universally recognized and rather easy to make. The name itself is appropriate because South Beach takes you to the sea breeze and sunshine warmness around the throat. It is gentle, smooth and perfectly balanced in the sweetness of sugar and sourness of lemon. On top of that, mint provides ample refreshment.

DiGi AND SONY ERICSSON W8 PRESS LAUNCH

The world's first Android-powered Walkman smartphone has finally arrived on the Malaysian soil. Sony Ericsson W8 (also referred as Sony Ericsson Xperia W8 in certain market) is the latest invention for which Sony Ericsson is hoping to be able to revive the market interests on the culture of "Walkman" or music-based mobile phone. The revival takes us to the next level and Sony Ericsson is presenting and marketing W8 as the first phone from the Walkman series to run on Android OS.

It was first been released in the early of May and DiGi is strengthening their market share on the competitive digital music sector by launching the smartphone, while integrating it with the existing DiGiMusic(TM).

On 5th of July 2011 at the Mist Club, Bangsar; DiGi and Sony Ericsson unveiled the metallic red W8 version to the press in a soft and moderate press launch of the much awaited smartphone. Courtesy of invites from Nuffnang Malaysia, GTB was there to witness the press launch and had my first hands on working around the phone. PHONE REVIEW

Sony Ericsson is taking itself into another familiar zone of mediocre when they try to bring creativity and the "awesomeness" factors merging together into this W8. It is an intriguing concept of revamping the Walkman series by incorporating the much beloved Android OS into the model, but that technical-merging does very little to make it an awesome phone itself. Instead, the first glance on this phone will never let you to be unsure if this W8 looks anything similar to X8. Downright, the first disappointment - W8 marks a rather quiet announcement from Sony Ericsson because there is no revamp of design curves to differentiate this from X8.

The second disappointment must be directed to its choice of Android software. Instead of going for more advance version, the people down at the Sony Ericsson lab decided to put this with Android 2.1 Eclair. Simply to say, the W8 users will stuck in the time warp by going retro back in the days of Android revolution. I personally think that incorporating Android 2.2 (Froyo) or 2.3 (Gingerbread) would have been a decent choice of all.

W8 may have lack the quality in terms of OS choice and the curves, but it is a rather average phone to begin with. It is equipped with HVGA resolution (320 x 480) touch screen, running on Android 2.1 Eclair with 600 MHz processor and 168MB RAM. For browsing experience, W8 is 2G and 3G enabled plus ability to access WiFi, GPRS, HSDPA and EDGE. Standby time runs at 446 hours (18.5 days), talktime at 476 minutes (8 hours) and music playback for 24 hours. It also has a 3.2 Megapixel camera packed on its back, albeit no flash for the camera. An astounding news is that W8 lacks Flash and Java.

Touch screen property is quite smooth and not jagged. The home screen of the phone has four navigation shortcuts on its four-corner - that's a smart move. Social media junkie will have Timescape(TM) integrated but I shall comment less since I did not tried this feature that day. Typing seems pretty flow-able, but people who has big thumbs and fingers may find it hard to handle the typing. With a low spec on its processor specs, certain high-end apps are totally a no-no if you wants to install it. Since it is a Walkman series, it is made to awe you on its music department. Infinite Button is incorporated into the MP3 experience for users to learn for more information and content.

In the nutshell, Sony Ericsson W8 is an affordable, on average Walkman phone attempting to be "smart". The down side is that W8 sounds small on its bigger technicality issues of Android choice and lack of ambitious design. However, it feels slightly better when you use it but nothing more than just a little gadget for revamping the era of Walkman and MP3 experience. Not a bad phone if you consider having an MP3, Android and mobile phone at the same time - but exclusively not elegant or awesome!

'WINDOWS 8': A RE-IMAGINING OF THE NEXT OPERATING SYSTEM

The revamp to the current interface and practicality of Windows 7 is just one small line of introduction to welcome the future, while promising the users to whole new experience in running their gadgets.

Currently code-named "Windows 8", the preview to one of the most exquisite and exotically 'new-wave of technology cums experience' operating system was made earlier this month, in conjunction with 2011 D9 Conference. "Windows 8" will powers personal computers like never before, from small hand-held gadgets to the large screen PCs. Adequately, it includes personal computers like home and business desktops, laptops, netbooks, tablet PCs, and media center PCs.

SOUNDTRACK: TRANSFORMERS DARK OF THE MOON

From one of the most anticipated movie of the year, comes the soundtrack album that fills your cochlear nerves with tantrum ear-banging moment of rock and alternative tunes. The Michael Bay film is awaiting for its official release on June 29, but the original soundtrack album has already arrived in stores since June 14. I bet everyone is feeling excited because it is less than two weeks before we experience one of the most fascinating 3D movie ever, since Avatar (that's according to James Cameron). While waiting for the day, why not start banging your head with some post-grunge and alternative rock from the album?

The soundtrack comes in several version but the standard edition has 11 tracks from featuring artistes like Linkin Park, Paramore, Goo Goo Dolls, My Chemical Romance and Staind. iTunes Deluxe version will have an additional three songs by Biffy Clyro, Stone Sour and Serj Tankian. The full album will have 16 tracks in total.

The soundtrack album is produced by Randy Spendlove and Livia Tortella under Reprise Records (Warner Music Group). Along with the release of the album, Reprise Records has announced three singles from the soundtrack which you can listen after the jump. (Youtube video number one to three)

LADY GAGA, THE EDGE OF GLORY AND ZZZZZZZZ....

The fans of Lady Gaga must be excited because the official video for "The Edge of Glory" has finally out. I got a tip off from MTV Buzz last night that the video will premier on Thursday's night (in United States), so I figured out that could be equivalent to late noon here in Malaysia. As excited as I was with the video, but I have to say that this video is DISAPPOINTING. Watch the MV below and share your comments.

Not since Lady Gaga's earliest hits like "Just Dance", "Paparazzi" and "Poker Face" did she invented some flamboyant and distinguished touches on her single video. This time, "The Edge of Glory" plays down a little safer.

There is no backup dancer to accompany her this time - thus the lack of proper choreograph moves that mostly evident in the video. It feels like something is missing. Apparently only the saxophone man is sitting besides her most of the time.

Then, you may notice lack of imagination on the plot. There is no controversial story in this video - just a plain Lady Gaga doing some odd dancing and trying hard to be as fetish as ever, walking up the stairs. Yes, "The Edge of Glory" is a pure pop single that contains almost nothing for erecting the mood for a dance, but this is not an excuse for the lack of story execution.

Finally, anything interesting or unique signature found in this video? Not so much, except that double "eyelining" shadows that makes her like some "wild animals". If "Judas" has a lipstick gun, "Born This Way" has a masterpiece concept about indifference and zygote germination, what does "The Edge of Glory" has?

Now that people has started to comment things like "I WANT OLD GAGA BACK" or "BORING VIDEO...", I feel that the music video is as usual a form of arts and expression for Lady Gaga. Yes, on technical approach, I am disappointed with the style that this music video comes out, but it does not change the fact that this song itself is awesome.

Every time when Friday arrives, that dreadful song emerged out of no where. Yes, all thanks to Rebecca Black, we can all say Friday is not really the day we are looking for. Still, Friday is the day to start the weekend, the one special day that usually I can get out to hang out with friends and watching movies. No? Okay, I know that everyone is having sorts of trauma discussing about Friday.

Okay, let me show you this and hopefully, your Friday will never be the same. Essentially, this is Katy Perry aka Kathy Beth Terry aka Awesome Girl doing her stuffs again - this time making my bad memories about Friday totally erased. Watch this video and SMILE.

Yes, Kathy Beth Terry is a fictional character that you can follow at this Facebook page. According to the page, she is an 8th grader, has some freaking weird brace (I am a ex-Dental student, they called it the headgear) and considered a NERD! Ouch, the NERD version of Katy Perry, I LIKE!

IT'S A SHAME THAT YOU ARE A BLOGGER WHO TAKE ADVANTAGE OF OTHERS!

QUESTION: Do you think it is logic to 'SELL' your movie premiere screening ticket to somebody else considering that you are not intended of attending it? Do you know it is free stuffs that deemed unsuitable for such misdemeanor or because just want to earn that extra cash from such act? Can anyone imagined the person who bought the ticket from someone happened to realize that he/she is the only person who have to pay for the screening?

So, almost everyone got their premiere screening movie via contest or giveout on social media or newspaper, right? The whole reason about the existence of premiere screening is to allow the movie distributors to screen a movie to a handful of public audience beforehand; to allow words-of-mouth of a movie been spread after they have watched it. I can rest assured you no one have to pay a single cent for such screening because it is a marketing strategy by distributors to check on the level of anticipation and market potential based on the attendees' reactions. For those who does not know why we have tonnes of movie screening every week, this is indeed the reason.

Apparently there is this person trying to sell off her Hoodwinked Too premier screening (I assumed it's on next Monday or Tuesday) for RM10 a piece on Twitter via FongFeiKei. I'm kind of surprised because no one actually buy a movie screening ticket! Yes, some of you may have watched that movie in another premier screening few weeks ago so you might argue the validity of next week's screening.

For those who not aware, the movie distributor planned to release the movie back in the early of May. That explains the one screening that was held back at the end of April. One of our friend, Isaac Tan has watched it. Unfortunately enough because due to some problems, the release of the movie was delayed until its confirmation for release next week. To compensate, I believe that the distributor is doing another round of premiere screening and chances are that - you have won it recently from Nuffnang, right?

So I asked her nicely why you wanna sell it cause it is supposedly free?
She replied me by tweeting "'premiere' means 'a first public performance' according to dictionary.com, 'premiere' doesn't mean free LOL"

I asked her again, how she got the tickets - free or she bought it.
She answered "of course free la"

Next thing is she angrily tweeted "check the facts about premier screening before I asked her this" - of course she didn't mentioned me, but I know it means me anyway.
One of my friend jumped into the wagon by tweeting "We know your purpose,got it free and make $$,so good luck to u". He knew that premiere screening is not for sale, nor does it deemed exchangeable for cash!

He then continued by tweeting "If premiere have red carpet or premiere for charity is different story,she should know the premiere culture in Malaysia"

The biggest plunder of all that I thought worth mentioning is - this person who is trying to sell of her premiere tickets is actually a blogger serving for Nuffnang. I saw her on Innit Chat box quite frequent last time, doing the quite normal routine by spamming all the way to the core! The thing is I do not think it is necessary to say who is she, nor this post is intended for her act. Yes, you have been reading my squibbing about this issue but what is the morale of the story in the end of the day?

THE MORALE OF THE STORY - "A blogger is also a human. That goes to mean that a blogger, like a human, has integrity. Does the race to achieve something in the blogosphere makes one simply to take advantage from a certain circumstances just for your sole benefits? So to say, are bloggers doing it simply just for fame, glory and wealth, even it involves some other forms of dirty tricks?" You are now asking for RM10 a piece from something that i thought would be more wonderful to give to someone who deserved to watch the movie more if you do not like it. You are now asking for RM10 a piece from something that i thought is free and deemed "not exchangeable for cash" items. To be honest, if I have a chance, I am willing to give away my screening ticket even if it is a bunch of school kids or probably even some orphans if in case I decided not to attend the screening.

Before I turned myself into another Vince Philosophy, I think I shall stop. Now, you decide!
