from Lux Research, problems of water scarcity need to be studied in
order to improve efficiency, reduce costs and pollution. Companies
such as IBM
are using IT to improve water use efficiency. A growing global
population will place even more demand on clean water. Sea water
desalinization companies such as Energy Recovery and Nanoasis are using innovation to reduce high costs.

The city of Los Angeles has been studying new, innovative street lighting since 2009. They have chosen to use LED lighting from BetaLED with the expectation of reducing power consumption by 40%. The city is also looking at solar bus stop lighting from Carmanah Technologies.

Improving urban transportation systems can go a long way toward
reducing carbon emissions. To study the problem and create solutions, MIT
and three universities in Singapore have joined forces for five years.
Results of the study will be used to make changes to other urban
transportation corridors around the world.

Fresh water scarcity is going to become a bigger world problem. IBM is using IT to measure water efficiency.
