Feast your eyes on a nice TShirt from Adventure Cycling Association (ACA), which lists words equivalent to the English word 'Bicycle' in different languages.

In case you plan to buy one from the ACA, please note that material is nice and thick - not like an undershirt.

Hiking in Central Park - Part Two

Here are some more pictures from our hike in Central Park, Lewisville, Texas, from a couple of weekends ago.

To start with, here is a picture of a guardrail found in the park.

I was intrigued by all that water in the creek. But, it seemed rather turbulent. So, I stayed away.

Here you can see all the rainwater in the creek - Timber Creek.

The kinda thing I might have crossed the creek on when I was a younger man.

Shaggy's favorite toy in the park - the Stinky Fruit. I think Shaggy thought these were Tennis Balls. You can imagine how exciting it must have been to a young Sheepdog! I miss you ole boy!
I don't know the official name of this fruit. It was called Stinky Fruit in Saint Louis, Missouri.

Another beautiful guardrail in the park.

It was a good downpour, making the creek seem like a little river. There were several houses along the park that were somewhat closer to this creek. I wonder if they have to buy (extra) flood insurance.

A beautiful Live Oak (I think) we saw in the park. I will try to capture the tree when it is not raining, one of these days.

Funny shaped Snake

Last weekend, we hiked around the lake and other parts of the Railroad Park. We were not sure where exactly the jogging path ended.

Which led us to walk around some slightly unusual paths around the lake. Which is where we spotted our little friend pictured below.

I thought our little friend was a bit oddly shaped - quite wide near the neck.

Zoom in and you too shall see why :)

Our friend figured out we were too interested in him/her, turned around faced us, spat out a huge frog and backed into the bushes. Backed into the bushes, while looking straight at us. Didn't take his/her eyes off us, until safely in the bushes!

He or she wasn't taking our intrusion lightly. We didn't mean to intrude. Wonder if the frog got away or not.

Nice, exciting four-miler!

Hiking in Central Park - Part One

Couple of weekends ago, we went for a hike in Central Park in Lewisville, Texas.
I had driven by Central Park several times before, but never actually got out to hike in the park.
This particular weekend was nice and rainy, for hiking, and so we took the opportunity to explore a bit.

The walking path in Central Park is about 2 miles or so long, but it is nicely paved.
There are options to walk on other unpaved trails, in the park, I think.
But, as it was raining quite a bit, we stayed on the paved path.

There are a lot of fence / fence-like-structures in Central Park. I plan to share what we saw in a post or two. Here is the first one of them.

Though this particular fence was a simple, split-wood fence, I liked the fact that it was in great shape. I wonder if it is relatively new.

Making new friends

Couple of weekends ago, I got on Brahma to go around our fair city and run a couple of errands while I was out.

On the way, I happened upon Central Park - a reasonably large park with lots of trees, playgrounds, shelters for family gatherings, etc. If you click on the image below, you might be able to see some of the fences near the signage for the park.

Central Park is along Edmonds Lane, which is a busy road much of the week, but on this Saturday, there was not much traffic. The nice automobile drivers perhaps understood that I was safely exercising my rights to the lane, while not creating traffic backups, taking the lane for myself. We all got along like we know we could, when there is the willingness to share.

After riding a couple of miles on Edmonds, I got off and rode the back streets of Lewisville to eventually get to Main Street - the happening place in Lewisville :)

The first stop on Main Street was at the Lewisville Public Library. I love libraries and gladly support them whenever I can. I folded Brahma up before entering the library, not knowing what the rules of the library as far as bringing in a folded bicycle were.

Child or adult - the library is a fine place to be anytime! All sorts of things happening at the adult section of the library as seen below. There were other things happening at the Children's section as well.

After poking around a bit, I chatted with a nice lady at the Reception about some questions I had. During that time, I was asked to park Brahma in the open area adjacent to the Reception. You can see Brahma by the table in the photo below. I gladly obliged. Next time, I might take a cable lock with me, so I can lock the bicycle to a stationary object in this area, just to be sure.

What's a trip to the library without making new friends, eh?

Next, I went to Ace Hardware, checked out the Civic Center and located the Police HQ. I know the Drivers License Bureau is also near this area, where I have been before, but in my truck.

After these explorations, it was time to head home. I took a slightly longer and hillier route back home.

It was a good day to be out and about on a bicycle, taking things slowly, as they came.

Protection for the gate

Recently I applied waterproofing to the fences in our side yard. And, perhaps more importantly, installed a 'Killer Beware' sign on each gate and put locks in both the gates :)
Now, we can rest assured that Ms. Chaka won't be taking herself for a walk, not that she will do it, if we didn't lock the gates. She is a great gal and very protective of her family.

Some more work to be gone in the garden this Summer and Fall, trying to get some flowering plants to grow. Not sure if it is too hot for the birds, but I have seen them come by to eat the birdseed recently.

I don't have a fence to share this week. This gate will have to do :)

A Classic

Last night, I came across a nice article in the magazine Motorcycle Consumer News.

While it may not be possible to buy the BMW R5, it is a feast for the eyes and I bet it is a fun motorcycle to ride. A classic in its own right!

Found this little friend wanting to come along for the ride when I was fixing to go to work the other day.

Tiny, but cute in his/her own way.

I used to see many members of this little guy's family back in Atlanta, where we lived on a wooded lot. Not as much Here in North Texas. It's all good though.

BK had a successful surgery. The Vet had to pull 9 teeth instead of the initially estimated 4, but that too is okay. Our little BK is back home with his family. We are relieved.

Putting Junk Mail to Good Use

Hi y'all-

Hooray the weekend is here.

Update on Black Kitty-

He has a few tooth issues and is due to have surgery on Tuesday next week. But, the antibiotics he is on have increased his appetite and so he is not losing anymore weight. Relief 😻

See the hungry Tigers eating their food? Since many years ago, we have been using old free newspaper (such as Ad Sheets, to line the litter boxes) and shredded mail as litter.

Possibly a good use of otherwise 'really Junk Mail'? 😻

Back to Grapevine Lake

Last Saturday, I rode my bike to Grapevine Lake with my friend Mr. S.

This post will consist of pictures from that ride, with some narration.

Old, beat-up, yet usable MUP in Lewisville, Texas, that I rode to get to Spinks Road in Lewisville. This MUP (Multi User Path; a wide sidewalk which can be shared by all sorts of self-propelled folks) is quite the contrast to the adjacent road - Edmonds Lane, which is quite busy during the rush hour traffic.

I cut across the Denton Creek to enter into the City of Coppell. In spite of the heavy rains on Saturday, the creek wasn't very full, like I have seen it before.

From the backroads of Coppell, next I hopped on Freeport Parkway, which is a major street, connecting various parts of Coppell and Irving. Shown in the picture below is the signage for Wagon Wheel Park, a very nice park, which is adjacent to the Amazon Fulfillment Center, which you see in the background. This photo is apt for Ms. Theresa's Good Fences, I reckon.

Right around here is where I met Mr. S, who rode with me the rest of the way. Next, we hopped on West Bethel Road to reach Highway 26, which used to be a 45 MPH road back in 2008-2013, if I am not mistaken, but now it is a 55 MPH road. I have taken the lane on this road back in 2008-2013 and managed to ride fairly comfortably, while maintaining a good 20-25 MPH speed on my Co-Motion Americano. Now a days, we have a very nice MUP right along Highway 26, which you seen in the picture below. We rode the MUP here.

Next, from Highway 26, we got on Fairway to cut across Grapevine Lake. It was a nice, sunny day, but I couldn't get the azure skies to pop in the next two photos. Which is okay. The lake was busy with a lot of motorized boats.
I have crossed the same lake with Mr. S, back in 2009. You can read about it here, if you like.

And, on the other side of the lake is a nice Golf Course. This picture turned out to be a bit dark.

After crossing the lake, we continued on Fairway to go towards Lewisville. On the way, we took shelter at an old Gas Station. You can still see the old signage and the somewhat old-fashioned gas pump.

Nearby the gas station, along Lakeside Parkway is an entrance to the North Shore Mountain Bike Trail. We stopped by the check out the area. This stuff is all new to me. This trail may not have been around back in 2008 - not sure.

Mr. S - sporting quite the kit :)

Mr. S is quite the rider, having accomplished many a challenging ride.

Near the trailhead, DORBA (Dallas Off-Road Bicycling Association) has setup very nice facilities for the bicyclists, such as this Bicycle Repair Station and the very nice pump in the next photo.

Though many bicyclists carry CO2 cartridges, I still use a traditional bicycle pump to put air in my tires and I like having these things around at trailheads.

The lake is only a short distance away :)

After checking out the trail, we headed towards Lewisville (my stomping grounds). Along the way, we saw this big tank at a construction site with an attractive design on it. Well, it also came with a Texas-Sized Beautiful Blue Sky!

And, then it was back on Spinks to Edmonds and then back home.

When I look at this picture, it somehow gives me the impression I am in a hilly place on Spinks Road. It is not very hilly FWIW.

Flowers seen during a bicycle ride

Flowers seen during a bicycle ride on Saturday.

I see a fragment of something that resembles a moth's wing. Do you see it?

I couldn't tell if there were Daisies or White Coneflowers.

A little friend came by when I was fixing the rear mudguard in a parking lot. I enjoyed watching his/her buzzing around for a bit, as I was waiting for my other friend Mr. S to join me.

The third picture in the collage below is a view of Denton Creek, which wasn't roaring with a lot of water, though Saturday was a rainy day, here in DFW.

It was nice to take the fat-tired bicycle out for a ride.
