This post is all about trying to build a business and how being a perfectionist can slow you down.  As much as I’m writing this for you’ll, I’m also writing this for me.

I’m not saying to slap things together, on the contrary, it’s important to provide quality work, but I do believe trying to make something perfect will completely derail your forward progress and be a road-block to your success.

Let me give you an example…

After I discovered Attraction Marketing Sales Funnels, I started to build them myself.  The only problem is that I knew I had to include video in the funnels for them to be more impactful.

The problem: I was never happy with the video.  Well let me restate that.  I was happy initially, but because the funnels would take so long to build, I would circle back around and not like the initial video I did.  So I would re-do that video, and never get back to where I left off.  The Attraction Marketing Sales Funnel would never get finished.

This became common place for me and I would never get anything done.

Starting and not finishing can become contagious if you let it.  It is an ugly desease.  :-(  One that needs to be cured quickly!

Here’s My Initial Attempt For a Cure

Recognizing that I wasn’t getting anywhere a couple of years back ,I decided that, although I needed to produce quality, I shouldn’t allow my obsession with perfection stop my forward progress.

So I established a simple goal.  Before I re-do anything, I first must complete the funnel from start to finish first before I was allowed to go back and improve upon it.  That way I would be able to create congruity with my system.

This helped but it created other issues…

As I was working to completion of the funnel, I found that I was leaving things undone… meaning instead of completing a small task at the time… since it wasn’t ready for the task to be complete, I would leave it with plans on ruturning to add that piece in.  That sounds confusing so I’ll give you an example.

This first example is one that I made all the time.

Basically, when setting up a funnel I would need to set up an autoresponder list.  Not a problem but in doing so I would only add the first message – the one that my subscriber would see right away, once they confirmed their subscription.  I would tell myself, “once I finish the funnel I will come back to this and write a number of sequenced messages so my subscribers would get follow-up emails.

Well what happened… I would get sidetracked and never get back to writing the other messages.

I know stupid right?  :-)

As crazy as that sounds, I would do this ALL THE TIME!

Imagine building your Attraction Marketing Sales Funnel and never finsihing it because you never spent time sending it traffic.  Many of us do this all the time.  But getting traffic is easy, even if you have a small budget for it.

Bottom-line, my plan to finish the funnel A to Z helped me, but it presented other issues for me such as the examples below.  But I further modified my plan….

One Problem Solved But Here Comes More

I wanted to be perfect, but I realized that doing so was affecting my execution.  I solved that problem…kind of!

However I created an incomplete funnel.  I was leaving money on the table and I didn’t even know it.  And back then I couldn’t afford to leave money on the table.

I wasn’t finishing everything that needed to be finished and the sad part was that I was not finishing revenue getting functions.

My solution was simple and one I use today except I do it digitally…

As I work in my office building my funnel, I keep a notepad next to me.  I simply write down everything that was left unfinished for whatever reason and then circle back around to complete these tasks before I start driving traffic to that funnel.

Simple right?

So simple that I didn’t do it in the past and if I could kick myself I would!  :-)  Now I do it digitally.

From a Hobby To a Business…

Do you want to be successful?

Silly question, I know you do,  I heard a statement several years ago and it rings so true…

“You Will Never Be Successful If You Operate Your Business As a Hobby!”

No matter if your trying to make it online as an Internet Marketer or as an Network Marketer, you need to make sure that you complete your projects.  You need to go back and do quality control.  Test your system and make sure it gives you the customer experience that you were planning for.

I know this is not sexy but there is nothing worse than creating the perfect funnel only to find out that your customers aren’t getting the products they ordered and you’re creating a negative reputation in this industry.

If you treat your business as a hobby, you’ll make hobby income, but if you treat it as a business, you make business profits.

It took me awhile to figure this out.  I “Tinkered” on the Internet, and when I joined my first Network Marketing business, I “Tinkered” with marketing and promoting it.   Anything worthwhile doing, is not easy!  :-)

I can say this… It gets easier the more success you have.

It is extremely effective.

The basic premis of a funded proposal is simply to generate leads, offset your costs by generating income, and to move cold prospects to warm prospects.

Basically it’s better to lead with a funded proposal than your MLM opportunity.

What is a Funded Proposal?

The funded proposal follows the simple law of of all informational products.  It must solve a problem that members of the niche are facing.

For instance, all online marketers want and need more traffic, so creating a product based on a solution to this problem would be a great funded proposal.  Or even better, all Network Marketers need and want creative ways to generate

If You Want Traffic From Facebook!

leads.  Developing a solution like List Building and Attraction Marketing Blueprint, could make for a great funded proposal (although this is offered free.)

The goal would be to lead with this as a funded proposal to help offset your advertising costs.  In addition, purchasers of this product qualified themselves to be offered the next back-end product, which in many instances would be the MLM opportunity.

The quality of the funded proposal will determine the credibility that you earn with the buyer.  If it’s good and it helps them, you will raise your authority status and make it that much easier to up-sell your MLM opportunity.

Aspects of the Funded Proposal

Pricing of your funded proposal varies on the format it is being offered in, for example an ebook generally sales for between $27 to $47, videos and software can normally sell for $67 to $97.

In addition, if the information is innovative and original, you’ll be able to command a higher price.

Although an original is best, re-branding a PLR product is a great option as well.  For those that don’t know PLR stands for Private Label Rights, whcih basically means you have the rights to sell it as a product to others.

This is a great way to get started while you work on your own original product.

The Most Effective Use of a Funded Proposal

Funded proposals work best while set-up within an Attraction Marketing Sales Funnel.  If your interested in seeing an example take a look at My Leadership Success.

The goal is to become an authority and to get your reader to know, like and trust you.

Many of the more astute network marketers drive PPC traffic to their attraction marketing funnel and use the Funded Proposal to off set their cost while list building.

This is a great way to build your lead list and make sales.

Leadership can be a challenge!

Sometimes you make the right decision and sometimes you don’t  You win when you make more right than wrong!  :-)

That’s common sense, sure but when you’re in the moment, making the right one is not always clear.  And when you don’t have the benefit of wisdom, it may not be clear either.

Sometimes you have clear eyes and a full heart and still make the wrong decision.  That is just the way it is.

In this post I want to tell you a quick story about when I made a VERY big mistake.  One that I still think about today.  And this was 25 years ago.  I don’t dwell on it per se but I do think about it often and wish I could have a do-over!

In addition, I use this mistake as a motivator.  I try not to live in the past… although it is a struggle at times.  I even know that living in the past is not healthy.  As a result, I try to focus on how this can help me in the present and future when stepping up as a leader.

I always remember this quote by Denis Waitley…

“Losers Live In The Past.  Winners Learn From The Past and Enjoy Working in the Present Toward The Future.”

Here’s What Happened…

So here’s what happened….

I was playing in the semi-final of the state tournament for soccer.  My high school, and the team we were playing, were considered the two powerhouse teams in the tournament.  Our game was considered the state championship game and the winner was expected to roll over the team from South Jersey.

The game ended in a tie, as result we played two overtime periods and that ended in a tie.  So we took penalty kicks to decide the winner of the game.  I was the first up to take the kick.  I’ve made thousands of these kicks in the past, but for some reason I was off target and missed wide right.

But that is not the issue that pains me.   What’s interesting is that players from both sides missed a lot. As a matter of fact after each team took their 10 penalty kicks both teams only made 3 each.  So once again we were tied.

Here’s the part where I made the mistake and I’ll never make that mistake again.

Since we completed the first round of 10 players to take the penalty kick it was time for volunteers to step up and take it.  They needed 5 kickers from each team.

I did not step up!  :-(

I had the opportunity to be a leader and take another shot but I failed to do so.  That decision is what has haunted me for years, until I finally told myself…

“what’s done is done, I cannot change the past.  All I can do is use it to motivate me to make better decisions for the future.”

How I Used This Leadership Fail To Design a Better Life

Needless to say, this leadership failure is something I never want to do again.  I will never not step up again and this philosophy has driven me for many years.

This philosophy has translated into achievement within my network marketing business.  I feel I let my team down in High School and I never want to have that feeling again.  That is why I focus on support, training and my teams goals.

I learned long ago that my success is achieved when my team achieves their goals.  

This requires that I know their “why” because each of us has a different definition of success.  By knowing this information,  I can help them achieve success in their business.

This is what my mentor did for me and that coupled with Attraction marketing allowed me to finally achieve results in my 3rd network marketing business.

What It Boils Down To…

In the end my success is achieved by helping others achieve their goals, it’s a win/win proposition.  If my downline achieves their goals, then that means I achieve mine.  A true symbiotic relationship.

… and that is one of the reason I got into Network Marketing.  Of course the money is a motivator as well.  :-)

From my perspective WordPress is the Gold Standard.

I’ve been using WordPress for over 5 years now, and many of my followers consider me a bit of an expert.  I learned through necessity because I couldn’t afford anybody to do it for me or to teach me.  Back then I was using it to deliver affiliate marketing content (and I still do), but today the uses and functionality have really expanded.  For instance WordPress is great for:

• Blogging
• Affiliate Marketing
• Membership Sites
• Direct Sales Letters
• … just to name a few

Not to long ago Network Marketers have embraced this system to help brand themselves and build what is referred to as an Attraction Marketing Funnel.  However, I still see that many of these network marketers are still not using WordPress to its full capacity.  And this is true in a varying degree.  What I mean is that some know the power of using the right theme and plugins and others do not.

I’ve always been fascinated with using Internet Marketing as the vehicle to help me build an online business.

Like many others, I recognized it as a great way to live the lifestyle that I wanted.

What I didn’t realize is how difficult it would be!

This is ok because, nothing worth achieving is easy, and once you turn the corner, life is never the same. However, what I didn’t realize at the time is that I didn’t need to be a “Guru” to be successful.

… And remember my success is defined by me and your success is defined by you.  As a result we all draw different meaning of what success is.

Definitions Change According To Your Journey

When I was in my mid-20′s to mid-30′s, fame, recognition and financial reward were things that I focused on. How fast I could climb the Corporate ladder was paramount.

To be honest financial reward is still important but not for the same reasons.

Back in the day I work for money to increase my buying power. In other words I wanted all the cool toys I could get my hands on.

Today I’m older, and I like to think I’m wiser as well. And I’ve learned that Money equals freedom. Freedom to do the things I want to do, when I want to do them and with whom I want to do them with.

It’s all about freedom of choice.

My vehicle is my various businesses. And driving business success was primarily achieved with Internet Marketing.

I’m Not a “Guru” But According To My Definition, I’m Successful

So let me state this fact right now. I’m not a “Guru” in any sense of the word, however, I am in a position to choose what I do with my time. I don’t make millions, I do, however make just as much (and slightly more) as when I was a Senior Vice President for a fortune 500 company.

But because I started and operate my P/L through a “S” Corporation, my wife and I enjoy the tax advantages of this structure.

Here’s my point (and sorry it has taken so long to get to it), You probably don’t know who I am. I’m not a “Guru” but the people in my circle do and they understand that I offer value.

Here’s the deal…

You don’t have to know it all to offer and add value.  What you do need is some knowledge of the subject your talking about.

Let me explain…

When I joined Network Marketing the first two times my skills were limited and I approached the business by following what my upline told me to do.  I chased family and friends…. ugh!  I failed with these first two businesses.

And if you know my story, I left Network Marketing for Interent Marketing.  I learned a lot because I had several great mentors.  Then after becoming a customer of the service, I joined my third MLM company.  I used my skills from Internet Marketing to build rapport, provide valuable information and generate leads.

I now pass on this knowledge to my team so they can achieve success.  My relationship with my team is symbiotic.  If they win, I win, therefore it is my goal and duty to help them achieve success.  If I don’t share these techniques and tactics that I’ve used to create my success then I’m just not being strategic.

It’s as simple as that.

So although I am not considered a “Guru” in any sense of the word, my team benefits from my specialized knowledge because I am willing to share to help both them and myself achieve success.

So remember, you don’t have to make millions to be successful.  All you have to do is share what you know, because there will always be somebody that doesn’t know as much as you do.  And if you can make a living helping others achieve their goals, isn’t that a worthwhile endeavor?

“Guru” status is not a prerequisite!
