Have you ever been thirsty? I mean REALLY thirsty??

Until I went to Catalyst 2010, I didn't spend too much time thinking about water. When we're thirsty, we flip a handle or push a button or even grab another bottle of water. When we're dirty, we twist a shower knob. When we use the bathroom - water's just there for the taking.

But for a billion people on the planet, it's not. Millions of women and children have to walk hours each day to get water from muddy ponds and rivers. And much of that water is infested with parasites and leeches. In fact, 80% of all diseases in the world are caused by unsafe drinking water and lack of sanitation.

Here are the facts:

$20 means one person can get clean water for 20 years.
$250 means two families of six can get clean water.
$5,000 means clean water for a community of 250.

After Catalyst 2010, I decided to start a campaign to help by getting involved with charity:water.

The cool thing about charity: water is that they spend 100% of the money I raise directly on the water projects. Even better, when projects are complete, every dollar is tied to a village and all the wells are posted on Google Earth.

My goal is to raise $5,000 by Christmas to build a well in a developing nation!

Google TV - A logical next step

Recently, Google announced Google TV. To me, this is the logical next step. The rapid growth of YouTube and the success of Netflix's streaming content services demonstrate that consumers like the idea of watching content on demand via the web.

Will Google's announcement be a killer to traditional providers such as Cable TV, IPTV and Dish providers?

No.

Why? Because if you watch the video closely, you'll notice that the search results from Google will include traditional programming.

But, I believe this also signals a shift in how programming will be viewed. Consumers are becoming more and more content oriented instead of schedule oriented. Except for news, sporting events, concerts and the like, there is no need for programming to follow a specific schedule.

Personally, I have Netflix and love their streaming service. We have it set up to go directly to our TV from our Bluray player. This Google development just seems to take that model a step further. Now Google will provide consumers with search results across the gamut of providers (traditional, Netflix, Youtube, web sites, etc). Then the consumer will decide how and when they will enjoy the programming

Traditional providers need to recognize this shift and leverage it to their benefit.

Easy Solution to Gulf Oil Spill?

The leaking oil well in the Gulf of Mexico is definitely a hot and concerning topic right now.

Could a simple solution like this really work to collect the oil in the gulf while BP and others work to cap the well?

I agree with him, the backlash against Congress and the current Presidential administration is not just a bunch of fringe, right wing groups. It is a resurgence in people that believe in the principles outlined in our founding documents.

Recently, he came out with another evaluation containing more supporting data for his concern about the upcoming season.

Wanted to drop in and give a quick update. I know I'm not posting here much lately. Things will still pop up here occasionally. Generally, these will be about weather, politics, funny stuff, etc. So, don't give up on me!

I've been very busy working to pay the bills, working on and launching a new site, working with Youth and prepping for a mission trip later this year. So, I've been here, there and EVERYWHERE!

Fox News' Brett Baier Interviews President Obama - Part 1

The interview is worth watching. Although it's frustrating that President Obama refuses to answer any questions directly, instead choosing to drop into rhetoric-filled campaign mode.

Mr. President....quit campaigning and answer questions openly and honestly for a change.

The quote from President Obama that particularly bothers me?

"By the time the bill passes we'll know what's in it."

Hurricane Season 2010 - Accuweather Forecast

Summer may still be a few months away, but as winter weather wanes, attention turns to the tropics and what may lie in store for 2010. Accuweather has released the early 2010 Hurricane Season forecast. In summary:

Joe Bastardi cites several key things to watch for this season:

The rapidly weakening El Niño

Warmer ocean temperatures in the typical Atlantic tropical breeding grounds compared to last year (tropical storms draw energy from warm water)

Weakening trade winds which reduce the amount of dry air injected into the tropics from Africa

Higher humidity levels which provide additional upward motion in the air and fuel tropical storm development
