One year ago I was in Seattle, attending the Sinclair and Moore Workshop. It's amazing how fast time flies, and before you know it, here we are before we know it and another year has passed. I think the greatest thing I learned about myself in that season of life was that "anything is possible if you believe in yourself first." Let's dive into the good stuff shall we? If your considering attending the Sinclair and Moore Workshop, I definitely would say make the investment. The opportunity and return on investment is far above any other wedding workshop I have seen and your portfolio will blossom tremendously. Steve and Jamie really know what they are doing in this industry and have always been a prime example of timelessness and expertise in my opinion.

Steve really does an amazing job listening to each individuals dreams and giving amazing advice. They care about you as an individual and really want you to leave refreshed and feeling inspired. The workshop keeps it's doors open to everyone, no experience is required.

The workshop experience was amazing and no detail was left out. Steve and his team definitely made you feel welcomed and you never left hungry that's for sure. Some of the best local food and dessert I have ever tasted from local restaurants like DERU Market. It's making me want to hop on a plane right now!

We received the loveliest welcome gifts full of some of sweetest things from amazing vendors. I was so excited to see my monogram on a lovely apron from Oatmeal and Lace, it was such a fun surprise!

Over the course of the Design workshop we learned many key components about Steve's design process. We were taught hands on floral design by Steve and also Ashley from the lovely Tinge Floral. It was so great to see each of their design processes differently, but both valuable in my opinion. This was my favorite part of the workshop.

On the last day, we had the opportunity to display our creations in an artistic photo-shoot. We selected the design we wanted to be apart of and got to work with our groups putting the details together, that Steve created. It was a exciting time to say the least, as if you were on the set of a movie production. Hair, makeup, models, installation, props, rentals, and more were pulled together to make the final product just breathtaking. Steve really didn't miss a detail did he?

I definitely left the workshop with a clearer expectation on how I wanted my business to grow and what felt like a fresh start. Not only did I inherited a collection of images captured by Maria Lamb Photography to build my portfolio, but ones I will always cherish. Lastly, I met a group of women that will forever be sweet friends, some of the best souls I ever did meet.

I am thankful to have experienced this opportunity that seems to only happen once in a lifetime. Moments I will always cherish deeply and cling on to when I need that extra push to just keep going! Anything is possible friends! Have a blessed day!

365 Days...

365 days ago my arms held you for the first time. 365 days ago my love grew again by leaps and bounds, multiplying more than I thought could happen truthfully. 365 days ago I laid eyes on you as my heart swallowed every ounce of my being in that moment. 365 days ago I became your mom and you became my sweet baby Lailah.

365 days isn't quite long enough to have you as my little baby. 365 days goes way too fast and I can't believe we are here, already. I have had 365 days already to love you, care for you, kiss and cuddle you, giggle and smile with you, laugh and hold you, cradle and protect you. It's been 365 days with you by my side.

It's been 365 days of cherished and truthful moments. 365 days of wishing for time to stand still, just awhile longer. 365 days of wishing I could bottle up every single moment inside my heart, to never forget. 365 days of the last first, and the firsts one last time. 365 days of watching you grow more beautiful, curious and lovely. It's been 365 days of joy with you my darling. 365 days of pure, beautiful bliss...

365 days of watching you wonder about the world around you, watching your sense of love for others grown and you change right before my very eyes. 365 days of you being my joy and 365 days of being your mama. It's been 365 days of wondering how I got so lucky to call you mine.

Looking forward to the next 365 days of adventure, wonder, love, growth, curiosity and so much more. Happy Birthday to you baby girl.... I love you...

Be Still....

"Be Still" those words I often found myself pondering on many times in 2015, more so than ever before it seems. Those seemed to be some of the hardest words I have had to listen to from myself as stress, overwhelm, truth, and so much more negativity crept through my mind many times.

I have had to cut myself some serious slack these past few months as I have had a baby and things never go ever as planned with structure, timing and planning and I have had to learn that it's totally okay. I wanted to share what I would consider my word to be for 2016, or in this case phrase. "BE STILL" One of my favorite verses from Psalm 46:10. He says, “Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth.”

So many times I would let negativity creep in after having my daughter because here I was at a good point in my business before, after raising two kiddos already, I felt so overwhelmed with having to do it all over again. Many times I would say I just want to do this and follow my dreams, and make pretty things all the time. I realized that wasn't fair at all and that I can still follow my dreams while still raising my newest baby. I may still have to do it in the background, but I have done it for many years after working full time and part time outside of the house.

Sure, it may take some time still and I have to say no to a lot of things right now, but I am okay with that. These moments in life don't last forever, in fact they are over in the blink of an eye. Realizing that was the same exact thought I had when I decided to have one more child. I have to just be still and know God is doing everything he intends to do in my life at that moment, at every moment. Weddings will always be there, flower jobs will continue to come and go, commercial work will always there, but the devoted time I have with my kiddos and hubby can quickly come and go. I am surely okay with that.

If any of you reading this are feeling the same way thinking about the stress of balancing life, kids and a business I am right there with you friends. You guys... This might be the most epic post this year. I have been working timelessly behind the scenes for the past year or so on my website. After, a major platform change, learning a new platform the crazy hard platform called Wordpress I finally did it! Man, that feels so good to say.

Fresh new content, event pictures and a new experience to complete my branding is up. More editorials coming soon too! When I originally contacted Jenny Sanders at Graceline I told her my story and the organic feel I really wanted, she knocked it out of the park. I am so happy to say my new brand feels 100% like me. Timeless. clean and modern. I hope you love it as much as I do.

Love Inspires All...

Let me count the times I have started this post over. I have doubted myself, my words, my story. SO MANY TIMES...

As my brand and heart has shifted, so will many other things... But for the greater good.
I have come to the understanding that I may lose some readers for this but I am completely okay with that. I know where my heart lies, and no one else knows my heart better than me and God. So here's to wearing my heart totally on my sleeve, here's to no regrets, here's to you sweet Anthony...

Today, reminds me of one of the hardest, saddest, unfathomable days of my life. It is the day you decided you could bear no more pain, the day you died, the day you took your own life 14 years ago...

Yes, Oct. 9th the day I dread every year, EVERY October. It seems as soon as October hits, and the leaves all of a sudden start to change, my mind starts to wander in a thousand different directions, EVERY YEAR. I think about the could haves, should of been's, the possibilities of life if you were still here and the sorrow and pain my heart is left to bear.

Hard to believe it's been that long when it still feels like yesterday, it still feels raw. The piece of my heart that just seems to stay open. The day time felt like it stood still, the day that forever changed my heart, the day my life shattered into a million pieces. Some days the load seems bare and other days it seems so heavy. OH SO HEAVY...

I cling unto the moments when we were kids, when we would wonder aimlessly through grandpa and grandmas property. I remember hearing you in the distance pretending to be a superhero, while I sat under a fallen tree, pressing wildflowers into my spiral bound sketchbook.

Or the hundreds of times we would get asked if we were twins. I desperately hated resembling you back then, oh what I would do to just get a glimpse of you again. Those were the moments that it was just you and me. Those were the moments I so dearly miss...

Perhaps it's because your life was but a glimpse. A mere 17 years we had with you, not long enough if I say so. Before I knew it I blinked and your were gone. I have nothing more of you than those memories that cling to every fiber of my being. The moments that seem to keep me alive every October. The times when we were so young and free, careless and crazy, the moments I SO deeply miss...

Looking back at the years after we buried you I was so lost. If I had to be honest with myself, I was so disappointed. So many years I failed to share your story more often, so many times I failed to share God's grace and love with others, because I was afraid. I was afraid of what others would think, and how they would react. I was ashamed. I was broken...

In all of these years since your death, I have been changed. Not too many years ago, I started to realize in the darkest days, after the storm that I could find beauty in all of my pain. God showed me hope, He answered my prayers and HE BEGAN TO SET ME FREE. It seems when the rain stops, and the thunder is a distant memory, you look around and see what you couldn’t before.

I can tell you that a fire in me started to burn again. I prayed that God would show me a way to share the love I have for you, with others, but in a very specific way that I would love doing. From there my creative fibers began to thrive again. I started to do the things I loved again, I started to find my way, wholeheartedly.

Yes, it took time, but I can truly say I am right where I should be. Right here, right now and I am perfectly okay with that. I have been SET FREE. While yes, I still mourn you desperately sweet brother, but I have come to a understanding that we will be together again someday.

I believe that God has given me the vision for Love Greyson Events and the ability to capture those sacred moments in life that are so worth celebrating, together. No matter how big or how small, LOVE is truly in all the details. My hope is for other's to experience the love I have for what I do. For others to experience God's greatest commandment LOVE. To see Him shine in me.

While I may have endured some long and tiring roads, I believe it has shaped me into everything I am today. While I continue to navigate the waters I hope to do it in memory of my brother. To live vicariously through my events, instilling my heart in every detail, listening to others stories and fighting for the things that truly matter. The things that truly inspire.

Thank you God for allowing me to be vulnerable, for giving me the opportunity to change lives all while allowing me the freedom to DO WHAT I LOVE. Forever I am grateful. For you I find refuge in.

For this season, I am grateful. Anthony, thank you for teaching me all you have, while continuing to show me things about myself, and helping me find my way. Thank you for continuously inspiring me to share your story and for all the memories you have given me.

To all my supporters thank you for believing in me, loving on me and pushing me to be better. I hope you continue this ride with me, I really love having you... Forever I am grateful.

Oh Sweet Baby Girl..

It’s been two and a half weeks since Mrs. Lailah made her appearance into our world. Born 06/28/15 at 2:00 p.m. sharp. Weighing in at 7 lbs. and 15 ounces, measuring 20 inches long. With a head full of dark brown hair and the sweetest brown eyes.

She’s the third child, and the last as I have come to grips with in the past 10 months. All of my thoughts were reassured I like to say after her traumatic entrance into this world, and I have become okay with that now.

After another long and hard pregnancy and delivery I questioned myself many times, why I put myself through such an emotional state again? I have come to realize more so in the last 2.5 weeks than before I became pregnant. Emotions that seem to slightly mask the pain from my epidural that failed, the horrible contractions from the induction, the pain meds that didn’t work right, and the total shock my body battled.

She is indeed the last one whose flutter kicks I felt inside my growing belly. The last one whose hunger cries will wake me in the middle of the night, every 2 hours. The last one who’s sweet milky breath I will smell when kissing her. The last one who I will have to cradle around the house, just so she’s content and I can get things done.

The last first smile, the last first bath, the last first steps, the last first day of school and so many other last memories.

This day was destined to come ultimately; but all in God’s perfect timing. The day where we would celebrate the arrival of our last. The day where I could look at my beautiful family, my sweet newborn baby and feel “complete.” That day has come sadly, and I am learning to be okay with that…

The time will come fast enough, where we will indefinitely retire the stroller, the bottles, the diapers and the car seat. Where I will pack away her baby clothes one last time. She’ll be the last to head off to school, ride in a booster seat, and the last to kiss dad on the cheek as she leaves for her first dance.

Soon enough she won’t need to hold our hand anymore when crossing the street, where she will be able to tie her own shoes, or the moment she doesn’t need us anymore after suffering her first heartbreak.

Although, this seems so far away, untimely it is just around the corner. While the beginning of her life may seem so new, it ultimately is the last for us as parents. While her firsts will be our lasts, but the end of something so beautiful. May we take each day and hold it in our hearts forever, and remember the moments because it surely will fly by too fast…

Winter Beauty {Maternity Shoot}

A few weeks ago I had the pleasure of doing some fun floral crowns for a fun maternity shoot. My sweet and beautiful pregnant friend Heather was the lovely model and Tricia from http://patriciaandersonphotography.com/ was the amazing photographer.

The shoot took place in Michigan City, on a cold winter day. The lighting was magical and so dreamy and the pictures just speak for themselves. It's moments like these that make my job worth it all. Yipee!!! I have been counting down to this month since early Fall last year. When I received confirmation that my Commercial Winnie the Pooh shoot, with Disney, seen here would be featured in Mingle my heart wanted to burst. It was torture keeping this a secret from y'all, but so worth it.

This was my first national feature in a national magazine, so yipee!!! I have read Mingle for years and was thrilled to learn the editors fell just in love with my shoot as I did! My feature starts on page 76-80, a 5 page spread! So go run to the nearest Barnes and Noble, Michael's or Costco and pick up a copy now, they always sell out fast!!

New Year Brings New Changes and Contentment...

2014, was a year of finding out more about myself, and my business . It was a year of discovering what fuels my core, what drives my passion and what makes sense in the end. I remember sitting on the shuttle bus on the way to the airport after the AH Inspired conference, talking with my sweet friend Tana, and it all of a sudden clicked. It started to make sense all of the jumble I had clouded in my head for so long, suddenly became clearer.

After that pivotal moment, I collected my thoughts and started to dive into what I knew my heart and business needed, a face lift. I contacted a lovely calligrapher who I admired for some time, I started building a new word press website, branding collateral, etc. I knew after talking to a few industry friends and colleges that this was the right direction I needed for my business, my heart felt right.

So what does all of this mean? Greyson Design is changing but in a good and beautiful way. My name will change a little bit to focus more on what makes my heart burst. With that change a new beautiful logo and website is being curated and finalized as we speak. My services will be altered to fit my new brand and more. I can't wait to reveal the final product to you soon, my heart could just burst at the seams.

One thing that will be a huge change to my company is the graphic design aspect of my company. I will no longer be producing invitations, printables or any graphic design like that. Later, down the road my focus will be more on inspirational pieces that make sense to me and my core values as a business and person. I can't wait to reveal more on that, but all in perfect timing!

Going into 2015, I was a little paranoid to say the least. To make these major changes has been scary, but reassuring. I knew that I couldn't get down on myself and compare my old business to my up and coming one. Or to not compare myself to other professionals who have a strong brand and name, we all start somewhere right? So going into this new year I wanted to make sure my #onelittleword was a powerful and meaningful word that would resonate. This year I will be soaking up the word CONTENTMENT.

This word can mean so much for so many people. For me it is the idea of being comfortable in my own skin and life. Not that improving any of these areas is negative, but doing it in a positive way. I want to be content on where my business and life is heading, but driven by my own heart, not others progress. I also want to be content knowing that I am enough and doing the best I can. So many times in our life we get lost with comparing ourselves to others, but in the end it just brings us down.

{AH Inspired}- A Inspiring Conference for Creatives

It's been a whirlwind the last few weeks. I can reassure you that life has been good, real good. A few weeks ago I attended a amazing retreat in Nashville, and I am here to dish all about it on why you should be next to attend. Stay here because this post is full of lovely details, fun and just pure goodness!

Where do I even begin? Welcomed by the sweetest staff, Amber's smiling face and the most sincere southern drawls and y'all's. I first meet Amber a few years ago at the Dreamers into Doers conference, you can read all about that here.Typically, when I am selecting conferences to attend I am very very particular. I base it on the speakers being experts or creatives that I look up to, what's being taught, location, price and what information that is crucial to my investment, When I got word about AH Inspired and the speakers I knew I just had to be there.

We kicked the first night off with a lovely and colorful cocktail welcome party! Kim from The Tomkat Studio knocked it out of the park. We had such a great first night! Also, look at all the lovely speakers and staff in a pre-party photo op below!

Below is Kim from The Tomkat Studio speaking to us about the business of blogging. She's was just as sweet and lovely as I imagined. So glad to have connected with her at Inspired. Inspired was a collection of some of my favorite creatives. Some I have followed for years, others I have met in person and a lot I wanted to meet. It just all made perfect sense, oh and the occasional pj parties and surprises were just a added bonus. This conference has been one of the best in my opinion and worth the investment! So many fun memories!

One of the main reason I felt Inspired was worth the investment is because some of the headline speakers who I consider experts in their field and are continuously making a way for other creatives. Speaking on topics like collaborations, SEO, blogging, client experience, branding, balancing life and work, floral design, watercolor, chalk lettering and so much more. One on one and more intimate time with the speakers was such amazing part of this journey. That alone is worth the investment I would say.

With every conference comes amazing swag of course. The sponsors from this event really knocked it out of the park when it came to spoiling us. I felt like a kid again on Christmas morning.

It was such a fun and exciting challenge, The winning table won a brand new Cricut Machine and lots of gooodies from Provo Craft. All of the tables had such fun and unique designs.

Everyday was filled with amazing food, meeting new friends, strengthening bonds with old friends and so much more. No detail let untouched for sure. The nights were filled with cocktail parties, reception style dinners and fun pj parties and craft sessions. It was like a giant slumber party every night, so many memories to cherish.

Each speaker bought so much to each session and information that was obtainable, informative and applicable. I couldn't have asked for better content honestly! I felt refreshed, content and at peace returning home. So greatful for this intimate experience.

So thankful for the few days with other creative women, forming new relationships and soaking every beautiful moment up! Looking back at this group photo is such a beautiful thing, something that can not be measured, but only remembered I believe.

{Wedding Series::101} Seasonal Flower Guide

Today, we are continuing our wedding series 101 with flowers. It's not uncommon for brides to plan their weddings around their favorite flowers. Actually, I think it is quite brilliant if you are a lover of flowers just like me :) Some favorite seasonal flowers are: peonies, anemones, dahlias, poppies and sunflowers are just a few. Today, I am sharing some great and beautiful seasonal flowers for weddings that are sure to make you blush.

So let's talk seasons for a bit and flower varieties that are a favorite for each. With the growing technology and advancements every year in the flower industry varieties are becoming more available year round. There are always exceptions to the seasonal varieties because of the varied climates and the growers availability that may limit certain blooms. The good news is that flowers that were lim
ited a few years ago and only available during certain months are becoming available year round like: tulips, hydrangeas, orchids and more.

SPRING

Here are some favorite spring flowers that are sure to make your big day beautiful:

Daffodil, Hyacinth, Lily of the Valley, Ranunculus, Anemone and Cherry Blossoms.

SUMMER

Summer weddings have some of my favorite flowers to play with and include:

{Wedding Series 101}:: Bouquet Style 101

Today I am truly in my glory, we are talking all about wedding flowers. This will be a multiple step process and today we are talking about different bouquet styles. Did you even know their were names for the different types of bouquets? While it’s important to pick an arrangement to suit your personal style, you don’t want to be over-shadowed by your bouquet on your big day. Read on to find out some of the most common styles and find the one you love for your wedding day!

ROUND

This style bouquet has been one of the more popular styles for weddings. You may also have seen this as referred to as the European Hand Tied. This will always be a popular style with brides, and radiates traditional, elegant, modern and chic all from the same style bouquet with unlimited possibilities. Some of the charm in this round bouquet is that it is always created with the natural stems showing using Ribbons to hold the flowers together. This also allows for an area to personalize the bouquet by adding antique brooches or family heirlooms to the bouquet.

CRESCENT

This style resembles an half moon shape known as the crescent. Similar to the cascading as the way the bouquet is formed in a bouquet holder, but the designs are different. Usually symmetrical, these flower arrangements are preferred for their natural look. The flowers just seem to "flow" across the hands. (The bouquet is thick in the middle and tapers down as it nears the floor.) Depending on the flowers used and the length of the "arms" the crescent can be made to look traditional or more modern. These bouquets are true floral art and an individualist representation of the bride's personality. This style is perfect for sophisticated and contemporary weddings.

ARM

All bridal bouquets are lovely, but an arm bouquet has a special elegance that can carry a bride to the next level of beautiful. While arm bouquet remains less common, which makes it all the more captivating for guests - not to mention the groom. An arm bouquet can be used in virtually any type of wedding since the arrangement goes well with almost every style - casual to formal, traditional to contemporary, rustic to whimsical.

The flowers are arranged in a bunch of around ten to 30 stems with all of the blooms facing the same direction. The stems are tied with a ribbon, and the bride carries the bouquet with blooms resting on or draping over the crook of her elbow as she clutches the stems in her hand. An arm bouquet may include green leaves or grasses for added dimension, or it may contain only the flowers. This is completely a matter of personal preference, and both types are equally beautiful.

CASCADING

Cascading bouquets have a long history as the arrangement du jour for formal weddings and was made popular by Princess Diana. While the cascade bouquet seemed to disappear after the 80's, it has been making a lovely comeback. The cascading bouquet is something that eludes elegance and is a complete show stopper. Because of the nature of the bouquet, you need to be able to use flowers of different lengths, more importantly flowers with long stems like roses, orchids, callas, etc.

With modern techniques making blooms from around the world available year ’round, brides are now using more exotic flowers such as orchids, which really have a free-flowing look as well as being a stunning flower. There are a lot of flowers that can make these bouquets unique to each bride and the possibilities are endless.

LOOSE ROUND

Although this is not technically a professional named bouquet I wanted to throw this in there. The loose bouquet (also referred to as organic or hand-tied) is exactly what the name says. A collection of loosely tied flowers and ribbon, this bouquet lends an air of relaxation and tranquility. They are ideal for outdoor venues or beach weddings. While the shape is very similar to the round and european hand tied bouquet, it does boast some subtle differences. More and more this style is gaining ground in the wedding industry. Loose bouquets and arrangements that resemble awild, natural, and free formed style are being seen everywhere. The look is completed with loose and hanging pieces that create a whimsical and loose look that boasts a playfulness.

{Wedding Series 101}:: Designer vs Planner

Today's post is meant to clear up a lot of confusion in the Wedding industry. So many people confuse Wedding Designers with Wedding Planners and vice versa and use them interchangabaly. A planner is almost always a coordinator, but a coordinator is not always a planner. A planner can be a designer as well, but a designer is not always a planner or a coordinator, and some are all three. Stay with me as I try to clear the confusion up a bit.

EVENT DESIGNERS

Greyson Design is know as a boutique Event Design and Floral Design company here in Grand Rapids, Michigan. We specialize in both Event Design and Floral Design for the wedding and party industry. Meaning, I am like an interior designer to an event, thinking about the visual aesthetics of an event and thread the design through each element of the event. We look at the big picture!

An Event Designers job is to make everything beautiful :) We deal with working with professionals in lighting, photography, and florists. We cover aesthetics like tablescapes, stationary, florals, linens, rentals, draping and more. Not every Event Designer is a florist either, but it is an added plus to be an florist in my opinion. Not only does it create a cohesive business and event, but also allows for the client or bride to narrow down vendor meetings without going to so many vendors.

We simply are not wedding planners but do more of the creative and artsy jobs when it comes to events. Don't be fooled though there are lots of planners who do design also, the difference is some are just merely designers. And some are merely just planners and hire third parties to handle the design aspects.

WEDDING PLANNER/ COORDINATORS

A planner deals with all of the logistical elements of an event whereas a designer deals with all of the aesthetic elements of an event. Logistical elements include hiring vendors, creating schedules and making appointments. Most of them are involved from the very beginning of the planning process. A wedding planner will also help coordinate the day of the wedding since they are so involved from the beginning.

COORDINATORS

A wedding coordinators primary duty is to be there on the day and ensure that it runs according to plan. You often hear them referred to as day-of-coordinators. Many jump in a month before the wedding to finalize the last minute details, confirm vendor obligations, create a timeline, and oversee the set-up of the decor. Many wedding planners offer wedding coordination serves to their clients as part of their service package. But be aware that wedding coordinators/day-of-coordinators are very different from venue coordinators.

VENUE COORDINATOR EVENT/ MANAGERS

A venue coordinator or event manager is hired by the venue to ensure your wedding follows the regulations of the space. They may help with your timeline but more often than not they will not help you with set-up or troubleshooting. Most importantly, a venue coordinator works for the venue; their job is to answer your questions about the venue, their loyalty is to the venue not your wedding.

{Wedding 101 Series}:: Let's Talk About Color!

Today's Wedding 101 Series is all about Color. I am a huge fan of adding color in unexpected ways for my clients and their weddings. Let's talk color today!

FINDING INSPIRATION
People are visually driven by color naturally. Color makes individuals feel a certain way or can even change one's mood. When your looking for Wedding Day inspiration look in unlikely places. This may mean looking at nature, fabric, a picture, clothing and design, etc. The list could go on and on to where your inspiration may stem from. When I meet with my clients I put together a mood board for them to visually see. You could do the same as well. Another idea I use is to start a collection of mini objects, items, fabrics, etc that I put into a mini tray that has sections. Whatever you feel is inspiring and useful -- go for it.

BREAK THE RULES
Mixing patterns, colors and fabrics all from the same color family is okay, actually it's awesome. The Ombre' effect is very popular amongst weddings, events, design and even fashion. Basically, you take one color lets say "purple," and use various shades lighter and darker in the design aspect of the wedding. It makes a cohesive and beautiful effect that can be taken from the paper goods, to the design and even to the florals. The bouquet above that I designed was a mix of different purples and fuschia tones creating an ombre' effect mimicked after Pantone's color of the Year, which is Radiant Orchid.

There is also the option of mixing patterns and textures from the same color family. You can use a tablecloth from a "lime green" color family, and pair it with printed napkins with a darker green family.
When it comes to the space your designing in don't be afraid to mix up the design rules as well. Think contemporary space with a mod touch, rustic with refined or organic with industrial. The ideas are endless and with most ideas you can find a way to make them mesh together well.

MAKE A STATEMENT
Whenever I am designing I am moved by organic and natural elements. Whether that would be a flower, fabric, vases, wood or even the architecture of a space, I play it up! When I work with those elements I make that a cohesive and repetitive element in the design. So whatever you pick as your statement piece don't be afraid to use it. Make a statement!

UNEXPECTED COLOR
Don't be afraid to use color. Having black and white pinstripes with pops of fuschia is an excellent choice for a bold and chic statement, with a touch of Kate Spade. Don't be afraid to use pops of color to accent and overall theme, fabric or design idea. Color is truly in the eye of the beholder.

{Wedding 101 Series}:: Wedding Guest List

I wanted to start a new series on my blog just in time for all those newly engaged couples who need a little advice. Over the next several weeks I will be sharing advice on picking wedding colors, hiring vendors, invitation etiquette, event design and more! I wanted to kick off today with talking about your wedding guest list.

Many brides to-be have a very hard time narrowing down who to invite to the wedding. They fear leaving someone out may cause a riff. Or many have the perception that if they were invited to her wedding that the feeling should be reciprocated. That is not the case and I am here to help you with all these thoughts and more. Here are a few simple guidelines.

FRIENDS

Just because you were grade school best friends doens't mean you owe her an invite. And neither does the fact that she invited you to hers - a decade ago. A few questions to ask yourself when deciding: Can you imagine calling her in the next year or having dinner with her? If so, add her to your primary list. If you were once close but haven't been in years, keep her on your secondary list.

RELATIVES

Your immediate family is something you shouldn't have to even think twice about. Also, as well as aunts, uncles, first cousins, and grandparents. But for the more distant relatives it's a good idea to remember if you invite one from a family clan, you have to invite the whole clan. For example: You wouldn't invite your second cousin and not invite her siblings too. It only seems right!

COWORKERS

The same rule applies here that was mentioned above too. Invite the whole clan from your department or none at all. An exception to this rule is colleagues you see regularly outside of the office. In this case they are truly a friend and not just a co-worker. The hardest decision is if you should invite your boss or not. If they are someone you work closely with a lot, or if the office environment would reflect poorly on you if your didn't ask her to go, go ahead and invite her.

PLUS ONES

Couples often debate if they would allow the invited guests to bring a date, etc. Honestly, if you are okay with meeting quite a few strangers or people you really don't know then that is okay. Just remember it can add up rather quickly when you are combing over the wedding budget. Most people draw the line inviting significant others, or partners only. If you do decide to follow this rule, just make the rule consistent for everyone.

Wow! I can't believe I am writing this post right now! Crazy how fast an year can go by. I have so much to be thankful for this year in my personal life and my business as well. God has truly been good to me this year, and every year to be honest.

This year has be a little trying for my business but also my best and most successful year yet. I set the bar really high going into this year. I decided that I was going to be brave, daring and let nothing or no one tell me I wasn't capable. The things you can accomplish with an little blood, sweat, tears and a lot of faith. :) Here are just an few highlights of 2014:

Christmas Table-scape By Greyson Design

A few weeks ago I spoke to an group of moms at my church here in Grand Rapids. The past few years I have done presentations mainly on floral design, and enjoy it so much. Floral Design makes my heart go pitter patter. :)

This year, I decided an non-traditional Christmas table-scape with more budget friendly ideas, that make an impact was a hit. I had some fun black and white stripped fabric to line the table and knew that touches of gold, silver and hints of blue would be so fun. For the hints of blue I used King Thistle which is one of my favorite flowers to use for high impact and inexpensive texture.

I painted an gold charger with a few coats of chalkboard plates and then used an chalkboard marker to hand letter an name. This idea can act as unique and fun place settings for guests for an inexpensive price.

An unexpected way to dress up your napkins. I used just a clipping from our pine tree, but rosemary could do just the same. Napkins are from Martha Stewart a few years ago.

Tied up sweetly with some red satin ribbon. Simple and lovely.

Some fresh clippings of pine to line the table with, make a simple and textural impact. 10 inch cylinder vases filled with water and topped with cranberries and an large floating votive add such an festive and magical touch. I used some pine cones and tucked them among the pines and accented with some mercury glass votive's and candle holders from Pottery Barn.

In the middle of the table displayed was my floral arrangement I made for the presentation. Beautiful blooms of white hydrangeas, red bi-color spray roses, Blue king thistle, dendrobium orchids, and some silver brunia was just beautiful. I spray painted some branches white and attached to centerpiece and strung crystal pendants on a few of the branches, with fresh orchid blooms attached.

This drink set-up was a hit with the ladies. I found an inexpensive star decoration at Joanne's this past year.I filled the glass Starbucks frappe' bottles with juice and topped off with fresh cranberry's. I filled the tray with left over vase filler accents, and mini pine cones. Adorable gold stripped straws were the perfect finishing touch. How adorable does this look and the glitter from the accents really shines in the lighting from the table?

I used some angel wings from my last styled shoot found here on the backs of the chairs. There is something so magical about them and they add such an lovely touch that is perfect for an Winter Holiday table. Don't you agree?

{DIY} Christmas Topiary Tutorial

I am back today with an gorgeous tutorial on how to make an topiary ball for Christmas decor or really any holiday. Get creative about the things you could use, the sky is the limit. I created two of these gorgeous topiary's for an magazine photo-shoot with my friend Gretchen from Three Little Monkey's Studio for an feature in Vintage KC Magazine, that Gretchen styled. Gretchen is an amazing stylists and graphic designer as well. We first meet last April at SNAP, but were friends online for some time before officially meeting. She is equally as sweet in person and she's known to be online, love her :) The image below is an picture taken by Oh So Lovely Creative from the Vintage KC shoot. Love how Gretchen styled everything.

SUPPLIES PER TOPIARY: 1 large cinnamon stick (Hobby Lobby Christmas Department), 1 bags of Vase filler (found in Christmas isle at HL), Hot glue gun and sticks, 6 inch foam styrofoam ball, 1 brick of Styrofoam, container or urn, mini acorns or accents, ribbon, crystal accent button or brooch, thin piece of jewelry wire, red glitter, butter knife

First, prepare your supplies and plug in your hot glue gun. Start by piercing an hole into the Styrofoam ball about halfway through. Apply some hot glue to the end of an straight cinnamon stick and secure into foam ball.

Then, gather your vase filler accents and begin by gluing them unto the ball. Only do a little section at a time because it will dry fast. Stick an few of the mini red balls unto the glue and while still wet sprinkle the gaps of glue with red glitter to hide. Placing an piece of paper underneath the glitter helps to catch the falling glitter for reuse. Continue to do this until you have covered the whole area around.

Next, take your urn or container that you will stick the topiary into and prepare it by cutting the foam with a butter knife and packing the container with the foam pieces.

Next, pierce the foam and glue the other end of the cinnamon stick into the foam and secure. Now, you are going to fill the bottom foam with accents of your choice.

Then, Tie an bow unto the topiary how you would like. Secure the broach by taking an piece of thin wire and weaving it through the knot on the bow. Pull tight and wrap the loose ends around the back of the brooch until the ends are hidden. This method helps secure the brooch better, than just gluing it on.

Now, you have an beautiful holiday topiary for your home or gathering. Duplicate these steps as much an you like to make as many as you wish. Don't forget this is adaptable for different holidays. Get creative with the supplies you use. {If you would life to seal the top part of your topiary for longevity you can spray with acrylic sealer found in spray paint department prior to attaching to the base, in an open and ventilated area}

{Tutorial} Pumpkin Centerpiece Arrangement

Happy Thursday!
I am back today with another tutorial, just in time for Thanksgiving and any Fall parties you may still have left. I created a few pumpkin centerpieces a few weeks ago for an client and decided to do an tutorial as well. It is an fairly simple arrangement and can be adapted by using fake flowers as well. I am an florist by trade and fresh flowers are my specialty, but whatever your prefer is fine too!

Supplies:

15 stems of flowers per pumpkin

3 stems of seeded eucalyptus

Floral cutters

1 Pumpkin

1 Wet Foam by Oasis Floral (or dry foam for fake flowers)

Sharp Knife

Star of Bethlehem and mini spray roses

Dried Hydrangeas

Seeded Eucalyptus

Hypericum Berries

Steps

First, prepare all your stems of flowers by pulling off leaves and bruised outer (guard) petals.

Next, fill your sink up with water and let your floral foam soak up the water for about 10 minutes. Never push your foam underwater, let it sink naturally. That way no air bubbles are created in the foam.

While your foam is soaking, cut your pumpkin top off and clean out the seeds and guts.

Once your foam is ready place the foam the long ways up, and trim off any foam that sits above the top of the pumpkin.

Begin by greening in the perimeter of the foam. In this case I chose seeded eucalyptus. I took 3 main stems and cut the laterals apart to add in a nice platform.

Do not push and flowers or greens through to the other side.

Remember to keep flowers from pushing out the bottom of the foam so that the flowers receive adequate supply of water.

Next, fill in the base with bigger flowers (focal) if you chose. Or you can continue to green in. My customer wanted me to use some dried hydrangeas that had a special meaning for the arrangement. They added an special and lovely texture to the fall arrangement.

Then, you will need to add some height to your arrangement. A rule of thumb is the height should be not higher than 2 times the height of the object your working with. In this case it's a pumpkin. I used Star of Bethlehem to add interest and height to the pumpkin and some dried wheat as well. An odd number of each flower is more visually appealing so keep that in mind when designing.

After, you have your height established then comes more of the focal and filler flowers. For my focal flowers I chose to use hydreangeas in this case and also have them serve as the base to fill in the arrangement. Focal flowers are any blooms that you want to be the focal part of the arrangement. Add an odd number, around the arrangement. Different heights is always good.

Lastly, add in some accent flowers. In this case I used spray roses and red hypericum berries. Because my client wanted a very natural and earthy look, so I stayed clear of anything to bright and to distracting for the type of life event these would be used at. Now, you have an simple and beautiful arrangement for your fall event or Thanksgiving party.

{DIY} Black Lace Halloween Banner Tutorial

Here I am today back, with an easy lace tutorial I hope you enjoy. It's so easy and you can alter it for different holidays or events Enjoy!

Supplies

1.5 yards of Lace * Scissors * Martha Stewart Fabric Stiffener * Templates found HERE* Sewing pins

4 Pieces of heavy cardstock * Embellishments * Glue gun or Adhesive * 3 yards of ribbon

foam brush * hole punch* 3 inch Scalloped Paper Punch Optional

First, Print all templates found HERE on heavy duty card-stock of choice. Cut out the pennant template. Pin the template to the top of the lace and cut out 15 pennants from the lace.

Next, grab an piece of plastic or paper scrap paper and lay as many pieces of the cut lace out as you can. Take your fabric stiffener and lightly saturate the ribbon using the foam brush. {MAKE

SURE YOU POP ANY BUBBLES THAT HAVE FORMED ON THE LACE BEFORE IT DRIES}Set aside to dry.

Then, while the lace is drying take your templates with the words "Happy Halloween" and use the punch to punch out the letters. Once, they are punched out use any embellishments you want to add to the die cuts.

Take your dried lace pennants and punch holes in the top to string ribbon. Next, string your pennants on the ribbon in anyway you would like.

Embellish! I used Martha Stewart spider stickers and gemstones.

Lastly, attach the die cuts in order with hot glue gun or adhesive.If you don't want them to be attached permenatley then consider Velcro or some removable adhesive.

Hang banner up and enjoy!
