Dave has hand carved Hitty this footstool with her initials "H.P." with a rose and leaf motif. The upper foot rest is bone, and the base is carved from elk antler. This beautiful footstool measures 2 5/8 inches long by 1 inch wide, and stands 3/4 inches high.

Hitty's Whaler Footstool

In Hitty’s storybook novel “Her First Hundred Years”, her travel adventures included sailing the seas on the whaling ship Diana-Kate. During her time at sea, a sailor made Hitty a footstool made of bone which became one of her treasured keepsakes.

Well, Dave was a sailor and he has made several styles of bone and ivory footstools for Hitty off and on since about 2007. Several of his carved bone footstools included Rose and Leaf motifs. His latest design is a true Whalers Bone Footstool with a carved sperm whale and whale tail accents. It is approximately 2 5/8 inches long by 1 1/8 inch wide by 1 1/8 inch high.

Carved Bone WPI Gauge

Dave has carved this beautiful WPI (wraps per inch) gauge from bone. He has carved his signature rose and leaf motif on one end, and polished this fiber art tool to have a wonderfully smooth finish.

The overall dimensions of this tool are 2 3/8 inches in length and 1 inches in width.

Dave scrimshawed this unique Hitty dollhouse wall hanging as a decorative reminder of her sea adventures aboard the whaling ship Diana-Kate. This wall hanging was crafted from a thin mammoth ivory slab that measures 3 1/8 inches long by 7/8 inches wide. It hangs from a small silver plated chain. Dave has initialed and dated the reverse side.

Hitty's Fossil Ivory Quill and Inkwell

Over the years, Dave made several of these miniature fossil mammoth ivory Hitty doll inkwells and carved fossil walrus ivory quills. He turned the inkwell on his lathe and hand carved the feather quill pen. We thought that he had sold the last one prior to our relocation, but here we are 4 years later still unpacking boxes and finding unsold or unfinished items including this Quill and Inkwell. This is the last, unless we find another, since Dave sold his lathes prior to moving and no longer does lathe turnings. The inkwell is 1/2 in diameter by 1/2 inch high. The carved feather quill adds another 1 1/2 inches making the set 2 inches high. Note: Cannot be shipped to addresses in CA, HI, NV, NJ, NY or IL.

Knotting is associated with the art of embroidery.
