Is it a mini Russian support spindle, or a hair stick? Actually, it's both!

This sweet little 7 1/4 inch birch Russian style support spindle, that features Dave's signature pyrographic leaf motif, can do double duty as a beautiful hair stick and as a travel size handspinning tool. The weight of this spindle is 0.2 ounces (5g).

These sweet little earthenware clay prep bowls measure 3 1/2 inches in diameter and 1 inch deep. Six new Andean style reproduction spindles have been added to our Etsy shop! Andean spindles are suspended drop spindles with no frills...no hook, no notches and no grooves. They were developed to spin long-staple alpaca and other camelid fibers native to the Andes. Spinning is done off the side using a half hitch.

Swiss Pear was the wood chosen by Dave to create this beautiful 3 1/4 inch long flat style tatting shuttle. He has carved his signature rose and leaf motif onto one side, and painted it with acrylic paint. Diamond glaze was used to seal the paint to protect it from wear. Beeswax was used to finish this shuttle. You can find this little beauty for sale in our Etsy shop.

"A blessing on the soul" is the inscription that Dave has carved into the 1 1/2 inch diameter moose antler whorl of this Takli support spindle. This 8th century Ogham blessing was first discovered on an ancient spindle whorl in Buckquoy, Birsay, Orkney, Scotland in 1970.

The ebony shaft measures 9 1/2 inches in length, and the weight of this beautiful handspinning tool is 0.9 ounces (25 grams). Additional photos can be seen in our Etsy shop.

.....the "Little Queen Bee" tatting shuttle, that is! It’s been a while since Dave has made any tatting shuttles. Since he can no longer do the intricate small work required for the more elaborate shuttles, he is going to concentrate on flat shuttles.

This “Little Queen Bee” flat shuttle has been a favorite of our tatting customers (it sold in our Etsy shop before I could get it posted here or on Facebook, but there will be more in the future). Made from upcycled blinds, it is super lightweight and very smooth to the touch with its beeswax finish.

Carved Moose Antler and Cocobolo Takli Support Spindle
Dave has crafted these beautiful lap support spinning bowls from ambrosia maple. The ceramic bowl measures 1 3/4 inches in diameter, and the ambrosia maple base is approximately 2 3/4 inches in diameter and 6 1/4 inches in length. Cork dots on the bottom keep the wood from scratching your chair. Please visit our Etsy shop to view additional photos of these handspinning tools.

This matching set of handspinning tools includes a vegan ivory tagua nut Druid's egg support spindle, and a ceramic and Brazilian cherry spinning bowl. Please note that the tagua nut Druid's Egg cannot be turned while mounted on the shaft, therefore each spindle may have a slight wobble.

The tagua nut, also known as vegetable ivory, was beautifully carved by Dave to represent a Druid's Egg. He has crafted the 10 inch long shaft from Brazilian cherry. The weight of this supported bead whorl spindle is 1.1 ounces (30g).

Our originally designed support spinning bowl combines the efficiency of a ceramic surface with the stability of a wide beautiful wooden base. The ceramic bowl measures 1 3/4 inches in diameter, and the gorgeous Brazilian cherry base is 2 3/4 inches in diameter. Cork has been added to the bottom of this bowl to keep the wood from scratching other hard surfaces. Additional photos can be seen in our Etsy shop.
