I happen to be one of the people that think TVRs are pretty cool. It can be a bit of a trick sorting out where the parts come from if you don't know already. Imagine picking up a car with no history and trying to identify every piece as you need a bushing or gasket. What's nice about the old ones is that they qualify for some vintage racing such as the pre - '63 FIA GT.

1971 Jeep J4000

I really love the old Jeeps especially something unique like this pickup. The fact that is powered by old fashioned Buick V8ness is a plus for me, cheap and available parts. The original blue was more of a teal as seen in the engine bay but I diggie on this color combo too. Probably needs a good hug to get it on the road again but shouldn't be far from a driver in short order. Tough to tell how bad the rust might be.

On eBay in Goshen, Indiana with no reserve and bidding at $1,050. Originally this was posted at a starting bid of $1,975 but there were no takers which was surprising.

2006 Shelby Daytona Coupe 1965

From what I recall, Pete Brock pretty much designed the Daytona Coupe on a napkin with a pencil, so to speak. The objective was to create something that wouldn't fly off the roads at high speed sans wind tunnel testing that wasn't an option at the time. He basically nailed the aerodynamics just by looking at it. There were only six original Daytona Coupes built and Phil Hill was among a big list of drivers of the first production one number CSX2287 The Prototype.

I would certainly love to have one of these replicas in my garage. I'd pick the more traditional powder blue with white over this color combination and put taller tires on smaller rims to give it a more old school finish. But either way I'd be happy with the sweetness.

A two-owner car with 62,000, "no hidden issues" and no reserve in Toronta, Canada. I realize there are a lot of choices for family haulers to get things but this one has a certain style that I've always liked. It's square, angular and masculine. The rake of the rear window and c-pillar with trident logo are particularly appealing as are the dual exhaust pipes. I can hear my wife now.

Carpet in the garage. My favorite. I once did a story on it for Motor Car Market. "1994 Hummer H1, bought two years ago with the stock 6.5 non-turbo diesel seized up, the previous owner's insurance would not pay to have engine replaced so they salvaged it out for some reason, and I bought as is. Truck had not been in any accident, just an engine failure. Stock diesel was removed, fuel injected 454 with twin T3/T4 turbos was installed. Chevrolet 81 454 block, standard bore, 2 bolt mains, square port heads, JDM T3T4 turbochargers, Professional Products Powerjection III EFI. Engine is mounted to solid motor mounts and bolted to stock GM 4L80E transmission with standalone computer, Optishift by Beaumann Electronics. Truck has a WARN 12,000lb winch. Truck comes with 6 spare cv/halfshafts, over 20 spare ball joints, tie rods, pitman arms, idler arms, 6 fuel cans, fuel cans mount to back and can be seen in video. Sitting on brand new Goodyear MTR's, still have the whiskers on them.When the diesel was removed all the wiring in engine bay was cut with it, so the new motor is wired to a temp ignition inside, new owner will have to hook up oem harness to get power to the lights, windows ect. Again, wiring is not finished, harness will need to be spliced back together... Turbo seals are worn out and will need to be rebuilt or replaced as they leak oil into the exhaust and smoke considerably. This truck is a really nice project for the right buyer who can turn wrenches and handle a project that is one of a kind, turns heads everywhere you go, way faster than the diesels. It's a project, an offroad machine, not a daily driven pavement princess. Not a gem by any means but is an awesome truck and would be one of a kind once finished."

Jimmy finally saw the shortcomings in his plan to revive the Hummer sans wiring and decided to buy something he could drive out of his backyard.

I've always thought that I'd make a good wheeler dealer. Buy low and sell high. The problem is getting attached to the cars and never wanting to sell. Or that fact that I'm no Ed. It would also help if I had a shop, a lift and experience too.

1965 Iso Rivolta

"Rare and desirable Iso Rivolta. Obviously needs a restoration, but is suprisingly original, complete, straight and not rusty. Same owner since 1970! Has A/C and desirable Borrani wire wheels. Underside of car, floors, door bottoms, engine bay, wheel wells, etc., are solid. I believe much of the paint is original. Stainless bumpers and glass are good. I have the other door panel but it's quite rough. Car has been parked since 1985 so assume a rebuild. At least it's a 327, which is far cheaper to redo than an Italian driveline."

These cars have such a classic Italian shape with American muscle underneath the skin. This one looks really complete with mirrors, bumpers, trim and original radio in the dash.

My continued search for my brother-in-law's up north pickup has me finding some good looking rigs. This one is an original owner, California born and raised truck with only 57,000 miles, 4 speed, 4x4. I could do without the huge tow mirrors on the side. But I've always loved the wagon wheels. This one looks particularly nice with slight lift and big tires.

1992 Lexus 300SC - Toyota Supra Twin Turbo

This car is one of the reasons I founded Motor Car Market magazine. The Lexus 300SC came with a little known straight six and manual transmission and I wanted to make sure I never forgot that detail. Naturally the tuner community took notice and performed things like Supra Twin Turbo engine swaps or simply hyped out the Lexus engine a bit. The Lexus engine from my recollection is not the same block as the famed Supra straight six so most SCs still have their parts intact.

This one has a Supra engine and looks well done. It would be a screamer sleeper with a claimed 400+ horsepower. Yet, I'm always leery of someone who only owned the car for several months, did all the engine swap work and then decided to sell the car. But he claims a need for a SUV in the Utah snow as the reason.

1969 Toyota Landcruiser FJ40 (Canyon, Texas)

This one sounded like it was well taken care of by a guy who knew how to turn a wrench. Most recently, the crank pulley came off it which was press fitted on the earlier models before being bolted on. The owner hasn't gotten around to pulling the radiator to fix it but the engine fired right up just the same.

Interior Rhino lined. Lots of media blasting and an attempt to paint it in the olive Toyota army green, which is the heritage of the FJ when the Japanese reverse engineered a Jeep after the war.

"Selling my 68 Travelall Custom 3/4 ton 2wd. All original down to the hubcaps. 345 V8 with a 5 speed transmission. Factory AC. Power brakes. Body is in very good shape except for a few hail dents. Some glass neds replaced on right side. Always stored inside since hail damage. Sorry for the bad pictures."

I'm still looking out west for something that my friend can tow home in his empty trailer. I found this on Craigslist Amarillo, Texas and decided to call. After about five minutes, I mentioned my friend with the trailer heading his way. "Yeah, I think I talked to that guy yesterday." What? Really? Yes, my friend Roy had called on the same truck the day before me and we never connected on it. Funny we were in sync with what type of "find" we would wrangle in Texas, apparently big-rust-free-tonnage.

Today, Roy made it over take a look. The guy seemed a little off but Roy plugged along in the usual manner of cutting straight to the lowest price. The hail damage beat up the windshield, passenger window and cracked the huge wrap around side glass. Not cheap fixes but the price accounted for this thought the owner.

However, upon filling one of two tanks with fresh gas, fuel leaked to the ground. Ironic since it's Texas. The second tank held and after three years, three squirts of ether and three minutes of cranking, the motor fired. Roy took a couple laps around the building. Brakes were frozen yet cracked free then hardly worked, steering was loose, things were funky... "How 'bout $600 bucks." The guy still wanted $900. Leaking gas and all the issues? Ah, that's a pass.

If it were 4x4 it might be on the trailer. But 2WD doesn't bring the call of the wild passed the dry flats of Texas tumbleweed. On to Oklahoma, Oklahoma, Oklahoma.

2012 - Detroit Auto Show

Last week we went to the Detroit Auto Show during Tuesday's press days on Motor Car Market magazine passes. Yeah, I know it's suppose to be called the North American International Auto Show. But that was before Detroit staged a comeback, Chrysler got Imported from Detroit and Ford made it through the dip without taking a dime from the debt-queens. It'll always be the Detroit Auto Show to me.

You guys must laugh and laugh at me for posting these cars. But I like them and won't let your snickering deter my desire from wanting one!

At only 23,000 miles this would be one to get and hold on to. The starting reserved bid price of $8,500 is about all I'd want to spend but this dealer is looking for more. Take a guess where the previous owner died leaving this behind.

"1971 Maserati Ghibli SS - Eurospec, (French Market)

This is a Real Eurospec SS, the rarest and most desirable of all classic Maserati V8 GT coupes only around 100 were ever made. #2110 was a Special Order for a long time Maserati customer, the President of the Société Marseillaise de Credit, Edouard de Cazalet. The car was ordered in Black with Wild Boar Skin Interior including headliner. It features a unique full width storage bin behind the seats with straps to secure additional luggage. The odometer indicates 60,000 kilometers (37,000 miles).

When the Bank was Nationalized, de Cazalet joined the World Bank in Washington DC bringing Ghibli SS #2110 with him. It was sold to an Airline Pilot that owned the car for 17 years restoring it, including rebuilding the engine. (Photo of bare metal restoration included) In 1996 it was sold to an attorney that kept the car for 10 years until I purchased it in 2006. The car was featured in Autoweek's Escape Roads - May 21, 2010.

Includes copies of the original Factory Build Sheets and extensive records dating back over 20 years including those related to the engine rebuild. Service performed by former National Technical Director of Maserati North America (from the 70's thru early 90s) during my ownership, previous work performed by the well respected Grand Touring, Inc of Laurel, MD (now Dew Motorcars) for the previous owner.

The car is good driver quality, it is very reliable with a strong engine. I have owned 11 Maseratis and driven many more. This is without a doubt the most powerful classic GT V8 I've ever driven. Back on December 20th I featured a 1951 Chevy Coe Cabover Snubnose Hot Rod Car Hauler. It had this car on the back of it which is now being offered for $6,500 Buy it Now out of Anaheim, California.

Looks really clean and well done for the money. And while I'm slightly scared of the leopard fabric pillow, shag carpet interior implications, the wheelie bar doesn't have me concerned about the two-stroke two-cylinder motor taking me off the line.

This caught my eye this morning on Detroit's Craigslist. Used value on an "S" model is about $37K according to Edmunds, so at $29K here you are getting a deal.

Top three guesses it's cheap:
• Accident damage
• Nobody likes gold, sorry Jarama Beige Metallic
• Dealer shafted owner on trade-in value

"1968 Porsche 911T Euro Coupe. This is a extensive project car that is numbers matching and largely complete, from what I can tell it was originally Irish Green with a cream interior and cordory seat inserts. This car was imported from Europe in the 80s by an Air Force Sergent, as such the car was driven on Air Force plates and not titled in any state. We have all of the import paperwork and the car still has the USAF plate mounted. Also included are the original Euro plates. This car is a big project but should be restored, the 68T was never imported into the states and there are only a handful on the road."

Air Force Sergent "Bob" got tired of being told to polish until he could see himself in it. He therefore built this testament of "stick it to the man" over many years and couldn't be more proud of the results.

January 11, 2012 - The seller has relisted for a BIN of $5,000. We're getting closer to the $4,000 I spouted off six weeks ago.

November 27, 2011 - At $4,000 this SUV would be enticing but at $6,000 starting bid the trigger isn't quite cocked and on December 2, 2011 - no one else pulled the trigger either. I'm encouraged by the Fiat DOHC engine swap for part and mechanical reliability/availability plus lots of new parts which I guess means they are available.

It's really got a nice stance and overall timeless style to it.

"Up for bid is a 1980 Lada Niva. As the door plate says, this 4x4 SUV was made in the USSR. This is your chance to own the same type of off-road vehicle as Vladimir Putin. While these are the vehicle of choice throughout much of Eastern Europe and Russia they are extremely rare in the US.

The engine in this Niva has been converted to a 1981 Fiat Spider DOHC 4 cylinder with Bosch fuel injection. This almost doubles the horsepower along with making parts readily available. There is information on this type of conversion available online for those that are interested. It has a five speed manual transmission along with shifters for a differential lock and hi-lo. Since the conversion the Niva has less than 10,000 miles on it.

At the time of the conversion the following was done:

Completely rebuilt engine

New 210mm (larger) clutch

Rebuilt ZF gear Box

Rebuilt radiator

Rebuilt front/rear driveshafts with new U-joint and couplers

Rebuilt brake system with new master cylinder, new front 3-piston calipers and pads, new rear wheel cylinders and shows, new rubber brake lines

New German made CV joints, both inners and outers

New front suspension ball joints, rebuilt steering box

New all terrain tires on 16” alloy wheels

Know issues with the car that cannot be seen in the pictures:

Headlight wipers do no work

Spare tire does not hold air

This car was purchased by a friend of mine in March of 2009 off of Ebay. Her and I served in the Peace Corps together in the Republic of Georgia. We spent a lot of times riding through remote areas of the caucus mountain ranges in Nivas and it was just too much of an opportunity to pass up. She drove the car regularly up till about a year ago when she started a PHD program. At that time she asked if she store the car at my house in Petaluma CA while I headed overseas again. The car was driven from San Diego to Petaluma (600 miles) at that time without any problems. The car has spent the last year under a temporary carport at my house. I started it up last month, installed a new Bosch fuel pump, and took care of some light electrical issues. I have driven the car up and down my driveway but the car is not currently insured so I have not taken it out on the road. It appears to be running slightly hot but otherwise everything is in working order. We are both sad to see this go but we don’t have the space or time for it. This car needs to go to an enthusiast that is interested in driving and maintaining a rare 4x4 vehicle. I have only seen one other of these in the US."
