So here is another photo I dug out of the pile.. I have been experimenting lately with Color Efex Pro 4 I have been so sick lately of cheerful, pretty, colorful images and have been leaning towards more of a darker, drab look in some of my photos.

I have really been enjoying the software, there is so much you can do with it!

Danica Patrick vs. Kyle Petty

Not sure how many of you follow Nascar, I don't but came across this ...

Apparently Kyle Petty said this - Danica Patrick is "not a race car driver,Danica
has been the perfect example of somebody who can qualify better than
what she runs." She can go fast, but she can't race. I think she's come a long way, but
she's still not a race car driver. And I don't think she's ever going
to be a race car driver."
First of all.. she is a race car driver.. she races and she drives cars.. because she isn't one of the top seeded car drivers she isn't a race car driver? How many MEN are behind her on the track when she races... seriously Kyle shut the hell up and go back to whatever Red Neck state you come from.

My personally feelings on her? Maybe she is marketable, probably because she is pretty and because she is a female race car driver.. who wouldn't market that? To say she isn't a race car driver is just stupid. Now if someone could train the Bud Girls to race.. I might actually watch Nascar. :)

Movies - So is anyone else tired of seeing the same actors and actresses in movies lately? I mean it's like the music industry, there are a million starving artists out there who ooooze talent and yet they play the same stupid songs from the same stupid 'artists' if we have to call them that. Time for some new blood...
Now with the movie industry it's a bit different, while there are plenty of great unknown actors and actresses out there, I understand why they want a name to drop in the credits to get people to go see the flick, but it's time for some new faces.

So lately I have been looking for some great Independent movies with obscure actors. Will keep you updated on any I find that are good.

NSA Whistleblower Snowden - So how does anyone possibly consider this guy a hero? I understand the argument, and the 4th Amendment argument about illegal search and seizure but come on, first of all we don't own our phone numbers, it's service.. and since when has anything we said on the phone ever been private? In the 50s anyone could pick up a phone and listen in on conversations. This guy has betrayed the intelligence community and his oath, stole sensitive information and is now running and hiding in countries which in the past have not been very friendly to our country. The guy needs to be locked up, what if he were to be kidnapped and tortured for information?
It's not always enough to be right, the world is extremely complicated and intelligence officers have enough to worry about without someone coming along and telling everyone how they conduct their business. People have the right to vote, they get to choose the people who run the country... they don't get to know everything that goes on.. and even if they did.. most of them wouldn't understand it.

People who think this guy is some American Hero have a very naive way of looking at the world.

Ever try and concentrate on something but your brain just doesn't seem to want to cooperate? Welcome to Brain Clutter. I've always had this problem, mostly because I have so many interests and ideas always popping into my head. I am often told that I 'Think too much.'
Honestly it's not something I can control, I do think a lot, and when I can't figure something out it gets worse I end up not being able to stop thinking about it until I do.... but is it good?

I'm not sure... I mean on one hand if you think too much eventually you have to make a decision or lose opportunities, on the other hand if you don't think about it at all and just jump in blind you may end up in a worse situation. So I guess the key is balance. I recently did some research on the topic and found some helpful tips for 'Decluttering' the brain.

1. Write it down. If you have a bunch of things on your mind, it helps to get them on paper and off your mind. ( This is useful, which is partly why I created this blog, I am horrible at keeping a journal, so I feel blogging when I have something to say is a lot easier and more rewarding when I get contacted that other people feel the same. After all a journal can't email you thoughts... yet. )

2. Identify the essential. Figure out what needs to be done now and what can wait and focus on the 'Now' rather than trying to figure everything out at the same time. ( I have been working on this, I think a talk with my dad about this helped, he had mentioned once that instead of trying to tackle one big problem, chip away at it by trying to solve small parts of it... makes sense.)

3. Eliminate. Now that you’ve identified the essential, you can identify what’s not essential.
What things in your life are not truly necessary or important to you? ( This is also interesting because I've discovered that we all have 'Wants' but most times I think we 'Want-to-want' in other words and for an example, you may want to go fishing, or you see other people do it and it looks interesting, so you go out and buy fishing tackle only to discover a year later you never went fishing...because you don't really want to, you just thought you did. By eliminating 'pipe dreams' you can focus on what you really want and then put all of yourself into it, rather than trying to do many things at the same time.)

4. Rethink your sleep. Sometimes we aren’t getting enough sleep, or our sleeping patterns aren’t ideal. ( Again with the sleep! I've tried changing my sleep cycle...but it's useless, I am a night owl, all my thoughts and creativity seem to appear at night no matter what, so what I decided was to get the most quality sleep instead of longer amounts of time sleeping. Hopefully that helps. )

5. Take a walk. Getting outside and doing some kind of physical activity is a great way to get stuff off your mind. ( This I need to do more often, I used to do it a lot. )

6. De clutter your surroundings. Cleaning up your house or organizing it will go a long ways towards helping your brain function well.

So there we have it, a good list, let's see how it works!
One of my 2013 New Years Resolutions was believe it or not, to watch Star Wars 1977, the movie for the first time, ever. Yes, believe it or not I have never seen the movie or any movie in the Star Wars series. Why? I don't know.. I mean I never watched it when it first came out, and then going back to watch it years later just never happened... and light sabers? It just seemed too weird for me, but I will give it a try and if I like it, I will watch the rest of the movies. So, I shall let you know how I like it.. maybe do a review of it.
Just a lot going on in and out of my head, I imagine quite a few people are going through these mood swings lately with all that is going on, and the weather here in New Jersey isn't helping much either. I think I am finally ready for Summer to get here, I am tired of all this dreary-nasty weather.
So with that said, here is some things I have found quite amusing during my mood swings. :)

So rumor has it Beyonce Wants Ugly pics of herself from the Superbowl off the Internet....

I mean really? You're a human you're going to have ugly moments... get over it.

...and why would people care anyway? I mean have we never seen someone make a ugly face before... on purpose or otherwise?

The other day my Facebook wall exploded with posts about 'Pretty girls' making ugly faces... I suppose in response to the Beyonce thing? Seriously? This makes me wonder if eventually people will get plastic surgery to make themselves look ugly because it's the 'In' thing to do.... so confused.

I refer to my previous post about Technology... and I am more positive than ever that the internet and television is changing us slowly and turning our brains to mush.

So there you have it, my moody post.... feels good to rant occasionally. :)

I 've always looked at Technology as an advancement, as a 'good' thing, but now I am not so sure. Have we as a society, as humans actually gained anything by technology? Or has it caused us to become dependant, has it dulled our senses, our compassion, our creativity, our ingenuity?
I suppose the truth is, it is how we decide to use it, but are we disciplined enough to use what we have and are we advanced enough intellectually to see the future implications of it's use and application? Again, I don't know.

Humanity, throughout history has been chaotic, but if we look at our history we can see a natural progression of advancement, for example. Human needs food, 'invents' spear, Human needs to cook food, discovers fire, and so on... it is a necessity that drives Humanity towards progression and invention.

The light bulb, the automobile, all of these things were invented to aid us, to help us get to where we needed to go, but at some point, we decided we could create technology to do the things other humans could do, so that we can save money and be more 'efficient' ... but has it worked?

I don't know, I think it's possible modern technology has actually reversed human evolution.

Why do I think this?

We no longer invent things to aid us, but rather to replace us. We want to save time, so rather than spending a day washing clothes, we invent the washing machine. Instead of cooking when we come home from work, we throw something in the microwave. Instead of sitting down and writing a letter, we send an email, or text. All of these advances seem great, and make sense and also save us time, so what's the problem? If we have saved ourselves so much time, why then is it, we so often say we have no time? Or we are too busy? What happens to all that time these machines saved us?

The answer I think is about fulfillment. While these things, do save us time, we also lose something very important. For example, when I was kid I used to have a pen pal, I barely remember the details now, but I remember waiting for a response to come, via snail mail, and when the letter arrived in the mail how much joy I felt. That joy no longer is there, I send an email and get a response in minutes, and I take it for granted.
Do I think we will ever go back to those days of writing personal letters by pen? Doubtful, should we? My logic says no, but my heart says yes.

So using that example, what is the cost vs gain? We gain time, but we lose our writing technique, and the joy that used to come from receiving a personal letter. Seems trivial I know... so let's move onto another example.

Computers and the Internet. We invent computers to handle processes normally handled by humans, to save time and cost, we use them to run factories which are almost entirely automated, which used to be handled by humans. We also use personal computers to access the Internet, so we can search information in minutes that it used to take us weeks to find, by using books and other means.

Again, this is a good thing right? Again, I say yes... and no.

What of the cost? We build computers to replace human thought, we build them to replace our workers, we build them to replace books, and again by doing all this we gain time, but lose fulfillment. So what do we do with all this extra time? Also, what do we do with all of those humans we just put out of work?

Here is another example, that is very close to my own heart and one I deal with daily.
Creative Tools. During my time in high school I was also taking a home-study course in film photography, and learning all about composition and lighting and different types of film. When I started working, using these tools, it was about skill, it took great skill and knowledge in fact to be able to take a good photograph, not to mention a great one. When I got the film back from the developer it was such a great feeling seeing those images. Digital comes along, and removes all of that. Now we see our images the second we take them, and if there are flaws, we can remove them in Photoshop or hell, we can put a different sky in the background, why not add a building or person that wasn't there either. Again, these tools are amazing, and I cannot imagine my life without them now, except once again the cost.

Sure on one hand it allows everyone to be able to express themselves and 'create' great images, and that is a good thing, but it also makes it unnecessary to understand photography, we lose the art, the craft. Now, they are inventing cameras which no longer require a photographer at all... so once again Technology removes the human component.

So to sum up this post, I am conflicted....

On one hand technology is a wonderful tool, to aid us, to inspire us and to give us more time to do the things we love, my worry is that we are losing the things we love through technology. We have more time now than at any point in history, yet everyone complains of not having enough time. We have more opportunities to help others and to use the internet for good, but how many actually do? Do we use these tools or do we depend on them for our happiness? How often does it drive us nuts when do something online and no one reacts to it? We start a blog and no one follows it, or we create a Facebook page and no one comments, or we need to text a hundred 'friends' so we feel popular? Are we in control of technology, or is it ever so slowly invading our humanity and controlling us?

Something to think about....

So here's a question for you...
Have you ever gone through your portfolio - Painting, Photography, Graphic Design, Writing or any other medium and felt like throwing it all away because you just saw another artist's portfolio?
This happens to me so many times, but what does it do? Well, you can get discouraged and feel like giving up, or hopefully, it causes you to get better and inspires you to create more.

The truth is there isn't an artist in the known universe that does not feel like that at times, or daily... it's how we grow, we need to keep working, even when we don't want to, to push ourselves to get better but how?

Here are some Tips....

1. Get Inspired - Browse Magazines, not just in your particular field either, you never know what image will flip that creative switch. Browse artists blogs and Websites, browse Deviantart, Tumblr, Flickr and other sources. Listen to different styles of music. Visit Museums and Galleries.
Immerse yourself in creativity... Take a shower in creativity.... Fill your soul with creativity.

2. Don't judge yourself to harshly - I know it seems impossible, but accept that someone will always seem more creative than you at some point, use it to fuel your own creativity and help you grow.

3. Get involved - Communicate with other artists, and share your experiences with each other. You will discover that others feel the same as you.

4. Keep your skills sharp - I know, from personal experience with Photography, there is always more to learn, new gadgets, new techniques so keep practicing your craft.

5. Create often - You can't be a part-time artist if you want to keep growing, you need to keep working daily.

I hope these simple tips will help you on your creative journey... hey, we are all in this together!

Superbowl thoughts...sorry I've got nothing.

I never watch it. Why? I have no idea.. I've never been into watching 'Team' sports much, when growing up, I enjoyed playing Soccer, Football, Basketball, Street hockey, never on 'official' teams but with friends. I've also participated in a number of physical activities like Rock Climbing and Snowboarding, many times.... but watching 'team-based' sports never really works for me.

I do on occasion watch Tennis, being a big Roger Federer fan, I watch most of his major games and occasionally I will watch female Tennis if there is a good game on. The thing I do like about watching professional Tennis is seeing the whole inner struggle in the player vs. player and seeing how self-confidence will make or break a game. Those players who beat themselves up over missing a shot, or get angry will ultimately lose, and those who can keep a positive outlook and stay focused emotionally rarely lose a match. There is no backup, no replacement or substitutions if you can't hang you lose, period. I don't see that in 'Team' sports, perhaps it's there but it's more about winning through good teamwork, which in itself is a good thing, but just not watch I enjoy watching.

I doubt I'm alone in this, but you rarely see people post that they are not into the Superbowl.... and I certainly don't think there is anything wrong with people who do enjoy watching 'team' sports.
It's just not for me.

So you can keep your cheesy, nipple slippin, crazy-ass- halftime shows and million commercials....with a whole 5 minutes of action until the next set of commercials. No thank you!Matthew Mayhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11584899214725114915noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-67110797361991475.post-70385566300908703202013-02-01T15:13:00.001-08:002013-02-01T15:13:40.014-08:00Lincoln

So I suppose it was inevitable that I would end up sick or in the process of getting sick.. at some point.
My ever faithful Echinacea vitamins are doing their job, helping my immune system fight off the enemy but wow... I feel like crap...normally I can tell I am coming down with something when my coffee tastes like crap (not that I would have any idea what actual crap tastes like) ..but... anyhow yes I am not feeling great.

So since I am not doing anything today other than trying to get well again, I thought I would post some things I like to do when I am sick.

The List!

1. Pintrest, I try to pin daily but that doesn't always work out, so when I am sick and have nothing better to do, I take some time to catch up on my pinning ... so addictive but in a good way.

2. Simming, Playing Sims3 or some other game is a great way to past time time, in fact ... one of my Sims got sick this morning.. so hoping I didn't give it to them. (Yes, I realize that's not possible.. although...)

3. Reading, Reading is such a great thing to do when sick.. or not sick, since it requires nothing but turning pages... or if you do the whole ebook thing (which I don't) then you don't even have to turn pages.

4. Watch a movie, since I rarely watch TV, I would probably put in an old movie and get comfy with a bunch of pillows and blankets.

5. Social Networking, I might not to a lot of this because if I am sick and moody I might end up saying something to someone or posting something that I might later regret.

6. Blogging, and lastly... posting a blog post about being sick and things you can do when you are sick.. is always fun. :)

Matthew Mayhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11584899214725114915noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-67110797361991475.post-13515969641285953102013-01-29T09:11:00.002-08:002013-01-29T09:11:50.251-08:00A Negative Post... Sorta

So I guess this is going to be a negative post ... although not really, more like a curious thought in the form of a blog post hoping to answer a question. Yeah, just like that.
For the last few months I have been noticing something, while reading Facebook posts, talking to friends, listening to friends talk about friends and family, and family members talk about everything else.. that people seem very bitter and have allowed themselves to become very 'pessimistic'...
Now, I get that these are not the greatest of times, the economy being what it is, jobs being what they are, but this is also not the worst time in history either, so why all the hate and frustration?

I don't really want to turn this into a negative post, since it would kind of defeat the purpose, but I would like to know why so many people seem to be so angry about everything. Most of the problems we endure in life are caused by our own decisions, myself included, we can't always change what happens to us but we can decide how we react to it. I know, I know, sounds very 'fortune cookie-ish' but it's still true.

It really is all about perspective, you can choose to see things as challenges and decide to keep going no matter what, or we can all just claim to be victims and talk about how unfair everything is. The important thing, in my opinion anyway is that we do what we can for each other, after all true happiness is not found in things but in how we are there for each other.

So keep smiling!

Matthew Mayhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11584899214725114915noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-67110797361991475.post-76970117325276344422013-01-28T09:30:00.000-08:002013-01-28T19:27:27.755-08:00Social Media Time Management

So, this blog post will also be about time management, something I am actively working on. This post will deal with Social Media, and how much of a 'Time Sink' it can be.
I mean think about it, Twitter, Facebook, Myspace, LinkedIn, Pintrest ... and so on... you could literally spend hours keeping people up-to-date on all your coming and goings... and if you blog, as I do (Obviously) then you have even more to do. So what is the best way to keep up and still use these tools?

Glad you asked... here you go.

1. Set up a schedule. You do not have to add a new post to every social
network every day. This can eat up a lot of time from your daily
schedule and leave you feeling just plain overwhelmed. The important
thing is that when you do post, make sure it is valuable or fun content that
will generate a good response from your fans and followers.

2. Create a content stockpile. As a part of your social
media schedule, set up a time during the week where you brainstorm content ideas for blog posts, status
updates, tweets, etc. This will eliminate any stress of having to come
up with something on the spot from one week to the next. Then, when the
time comes to update your posts, you can just select something from the
pile and post.

3. Link your networks. When you are doing things on
your own, it can be hard to find the time to post to multiple accounts.
You can link each of your profiles so that when you post on one account,
say your Facebook page, then it is also sent out to the others and vice
versa. Tools like Buffer, Tweetdeck and even Facebook Scheduled Posts
can make this happen in the background for you.

5. Get automated. One bonus of having a content
stockpile is that you can use tools like Socialoomph, Buffer and Timely
for Twitter to schedule its release automatically. This doesn’t mean you
can put all of your social media posts on auto-pilot though, because that just defeats the purpose.
You
can schedule certain things, but you still need to go back and make
responses where needed and take time to actually interact with your
fans.

6. Combined engagement. Other tools make it simple
to monitor and update your accounts from one spot. You can use Hootsuite
or Tweetdeck to create a dashboard that lets you handle multiple social
media accounts from a single platform, saving you time.
Create
alerts for important topics such as your company name, product names and
competitors. Create Twitter Lists of your most important customers,
partners and media contacts so you can monitor their activity in real
time.

7. Set up topic alerts. Save yourself time
from searching for industry news articles by setting up a Google Alert
for specified topics. You can search through the results for news that
relates to you. When you find something of interest, you can
share it with your followers.

I hope these tips will help you, I did not even know about some of these, until doing the research for time management, so I will be implementing some of these great ideas. I think though, the important thing to think about while implementing these ideas is make sure you don't turn into an 'Automaton'... keep everything real and interesting and most important, interesting to you!

Sleep...

I am so not a morning person, though I often wish I could be, I listen to friends talk about waking up early, going for a jog, or just waking up and feeling refreshed.
I don't know about you, but the first thing I do when I wake up is head for the coffee... I have tried going to sleep earlier.. I still wake up tired, I go to bed late, I wake up tired, I sleep in... and guess what? I wake up tired.

So part of my 'unofficial' 2013 resolutions is to figure out how to get a better night's sleep and stick with it.
I recently did some research and found these tips... I am hoping to apply to my schedule.

Tips...

1. Stick to a sleep schedule: Go to bed and get up at the same time every day, even on weekends,
holidays and days off. Being consistent reinforces your body's
sleep-wake cycle and helps promote better sleep at night.

2. Pay attention to what you eat and drink: Don't go to bed either hungry or stuffed. Your discomfort might keep you
up. Also limit how much you drink before bed, to prevent disruptive
middle-of-the-night trips to the toilet.

3. Create a bedtime ritual: Do the same things each night to tell your body it's time to wind down.
This might include taking a warm bath or shower, reading a book, or
listening to soothing music — preferably with the lights dimmed.
Relaxing activities can promote better sleep by easing the transition
between wakefulness and drowsiness.

4. Get comfortable: Create a room that's ideal for sleeping. Often, this means cool, dark
and quiet. Consider using room-darkening shades, earplugs, a fan or
other devices to create an environment that suits your needs.

#1 and #2 are a definite necessity for me... because I have no sleep schedule, I often have to force myself to go to sleep because I am a night person, and unfortunately all my best ideas, thoughts and inspirations always seem to arrive when I should be sleeping. So that, I need to work on.

I got these tips over at www.mayoclinic.com so head over there if you need more info, as for me.. I will be trying to implement these tips into my schedule!

I don't know about you, but there is nothing more relaxing than lounging in a nice comfy chair, or couch... munching on something munchable.....or a drinking big mug of coffee, hot chocolate or tea, and watching an old black n white movie.

I know the arguments against, I have heard them before, 'Black and White movies are so boring' or... 'Not enough action' or... 'I don't get it'.

For me old movies from the 1930's 40's and 50's are perfect, the violence was minimum, all the sex was suggestive instead of having to sit and watch people have sex in the movies today, which is just awkward. I mean if you want to be a man's man who's better than Bogart or ... Cary Grant? And the ladies wow.. Grace Kelly, Veronica Lake... seriously? Talk about hot! If you want to know what 'cool' is today, look back then, those icons are the ones who 'invented' cool.

After watching HD and crystal clear digital videos.. 3d and every other piece of technological wonder... it is refreshing to sit back and watch that beautiful silver screen, the lighting... so rich. Yeah, I'm sold.
So the next time you order a movie, try an oldie... give it a chance.Matthew Mayhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11584899214725114915noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-67110797361991475.post-51201177527138555742013-01-24T13:09:00.000-08:002013-01-24T13:09:05.145-08:00Women in Combat

Okay, so I suppose most of you already heard the news by now that Defense Secretary Leon Panetta will lift
the ban on women in combat (opening approximately 237,000 positions to
women across the services).

I have heard a lot of opinions on it, so naturally I have to give my opinion.

I have no problem with it, and after reading some of the comments other men have made regarding it, I definitely agree with the decision.
The arguments against it have been things like, 'You realize, if they are captured they will be gang-raped...(as if every man who is captured and tortured is any less horrific) ... or ... 'Women are weaker than men, so they will not be able to perform in that role.' My opinion is yes, women do tend to be weaker than men physically, but that does not mean they will not be able to perform, they go through the same training as men, they train with weapons the same as men, so I see no reason they would not be able to perform their duties as well. Besides, if they cannot perform their duties or carry out a given mission, they will be dismissed just like any man that cannot perform their duties.

So if all this is true, then what is the problem?

I think, it goes back to the basics, men want to feel as though they are men, they don't want to have to compete with a woman, they want to rescue the woman, they feel as though they need to protect them from harm, and so therefore it will cause disruption and cost lives. Perhaps, that is true, but change is always uncomfortable at first, but it's how we grow. I am sure these conversations were the same when African Americans wanted to serve, they said it would disrupt the unit, and it did, but we got past it. The same was likely said about women wanting to vote, 'they are too emotional and irrational, it will never work.' and now women decide elections.

What it really comes down to is, women should have the same opportunity, as men do, to fight for their beliefs, and for the people they care about.

While going through my magazine collection the other day I came across a 2011 issue of Digital Photo Pro Magazine. Now, I realize why I never throw magazines out, I had somehow missed this wonderful article featuring an incredible photographer Brian DeMint.

What caught my eye other than his creative photos was how the story began - 'It's suppertime when Brian DeMint returns from his 12-hour swing shift
at a rural Missouri power plant—unless, of course, he's working the
overnight. He usually grabs a slice of pizza and kisses his wife, but
then he gets to work again. Unlike most folks in Joplin who work two
jobs, DeMint doesn't moonlight as a fast-food worker or a security
guard. His other job is fashion photographer'

Amazing, a guy working a non-creative, typical job, somehow comes home from work, likely tired, and where as most people would probably sit down and watch some TV and eat a doughnut ... Brian not only goes back to work but has to somehow find this creativity that is so evident in his photographs.

DeMint later says - "I don't consider myself a commercial photographer, I turn
down nearly all assignments unless I'm given complete creative control. I
loathe parameters and prefer my unconscious mind to take me where it
likes—before conformity, logic or marketing kick in. I rarely, if ever,
preplan a shoot. For me, the modus operandi is that the model shows up,
and I get ideas on the fly and we shoot them. The ideas are influenced
by all the visuals floating around in my brain at that moment."

When asked to describe his passion DeMint replied with - "I would be more apt to call it an obsession, all my
spare time is engaged with something associated with fashion
photography: shooting, editing, studying, experimenting. Even when I
watch movies, I pay so much attention to the makeup, the attire and the
cinematography that I'm often clueless about what's happening in the
movie."

Seeing his work, I was surprised by his equipment as well, I had expected him to be using a Hasselblad or some other high end Digital camera set up, but as revealed in the article - 'He recently traded in his Canon Digital Rebel for a Nikon D90 with a kit
lens.'
He mentions -"An 18-55mm, I think, is all I need. Well, that
and the chicken warmers. You know, those $7 silver dish-reflector lights with the
clamps? I get mine at Wal-Mart because they have a 10-foot cord instead
of a 6-foot cord. They run about 20 cents more, but I feel a guy has to
splurge sometimes to get the equipment he needs."

Since that was 2011 I imagine he probably has upgraded his equipment by now, although it certainly wouldn't surprise me if he hadn't. This guy could shoot great photos with a Vintage Brownie Camera!

I really enjoy reading articles like this, about a 'typical' small town person who has a burning passion that drives them to excellence while everyone around them just keeps doing the daily grind....and I am reminded why I keep those magazines!
Today I started 'Part 1' of going through my huge magazine collection and putting some in boxes until I either figure out if I want to keep them or if I finally stop being a - Magazine Hoarder.. and feed them to the recycle container.
I have such a hard time letting magazines and books go... so many great photos and stories! I need to make some room for more, of course so boxes it is...

I have been blogging for at least a few years now, I remember sitting in a doctors office reading a magazine, and came across an article about blogging and thought it sounded very interesting, so I decided to give it a go. When I created my first blog, I wanted it to be about things I found interesting, personal adventures and experiences, photographs and just fill it with everything I loved... but after visiting a few 'how-to' sites I came across 'how to bring in more traffic' or 'how to make money blogging' and I got caught up in it all, and I found I hated it, I became obsessed with getting more traffic, that the whole reason I wanted a blog in the first place went out the door...and I quickly got bored and deleted it.

A while later I decided to start again, this time promising I would avoid all of those sites and do it my way, and I did. I started a blog which aimed to spread the word about organizations that helped others, in a hope to spread compassion. It was something I very am about, and the blog lasted years, but slowly it began to seem more like I was reporting rather than sharing my own opinions and experiences and being involved in the process...and like the first it slowly died as I lost interest in reporting daily 'news'.

So at this point you are probably thinking... 'maybe you just don't enjoy blogging' right? Well, not true, I look at this as a journey, and these 'mistakes' are not just my own, I have heard many well-intentioned bloggers say the same things. The important thing is not to give up. So, now here I am with a third blog.... you may be wondering how long this will last? For as long as I can type.... I have decided to make this blog about everything I love, and hate.

Here are some random thoughts about blogging and some things I have been noticing lately...it seems as if the majority of blogs now days are either Photo blogs or art blogs trying to get their stuff viewed and sold (which I don't have a problem with) or 'how-to' type blogs trying to teach you how to make money with your blog or what to write about. I am wondering if others have forgotten the purpose of Blogs... I mean do a Google Search, in fact I will do it for you, CLICK HERE ... you will find sites offering to teach you how to blog, or make money or create an audience.
While I don't have a problem with those things, I think people need to get back to the basics, sharing your own thoughts, not reporting, or trying to create an audience so they can click your Adsense.
Blog because you love to write, blog because you feel inspired or alone, happy or sad, because you want to share your interests, blog for you and for me so I can read your stuff and comment, but make it important to you, no matter what you do. See ya next time!
