It has been an almost an entire year of not blogging. I must admit, I got bored with it. Fast forward to October 2017 and I am in the valley. The valley of uncertainty; feelings of despair; and with no hope in sight. This year has been rather challenging for me; going through things that I care not to share... just yet. I thought maybe I can return to writing to help me with this angst. In the meantime, I am playing around with ideas and inspirations in my head to share.

I have been missing in action from this blog since 2015. I am the type of person that gets bored with things quite quickly. I have a question for you today. Is blogging dead? There are millions of blogs out there covering everything from fashion, food, homes, wine, and etc. With the fashion piece, Instagram has taken over the need to post a blog about what a person is wearing and what the audience should buy.

However, is it quite necessary to share with the world everything that a person does in their life. I am signing off with this open ended question; should you leave things to the imagination? Ponder on that question; will you.

It has been a long time since I blogged. As I mentioned in previous posts, I was going to take this blog into another direction. The blog will be inspirational as well as fashionable. However, I am going to showcase my journey into my next venture, a licensed cosmetologist. Yes, I am going to school to be a future beauty professional. I am attending Paul Mitchell. I have been in school for almost a month now. The program will take me a little under two years to complete because I have a full time job. This is a journey that I am prepared to give my all. It has been a long time coming for this post. The last time I blogged was back in May 2014. Fast forward to January 1, 2015. I am very happy to see another year. I am so glad that 2014 is in the past. Today is a time to look forward to new opportunities. On my agenda this year is to get better and wiser. I am on the path of eliminating baggage out of my life. I am very much interested in the minimalist movement. A minimalist voluntarily simplifies their life. It can include buying less things, reducing consumption, working less, and even eliminating toxic things from your life. I always admired the Japanese culture. They practice minimalism; however some may argue that is due to lack of space. They believe in buying the best but in limited quantities. When a Japanese woman purchased a new handbag; they would sell a handbag that they owned. This allowed them to always stay current without breaking the bank. I practice this as well. I have sold so many handbags over the course of two years. I still have quite a few; however not as many as before. I also found that the older that I get, I find that I need (want) less things.

This year my goal is to garner more experiences than things. That doesn't mean that I can't look or have a wish list. Here is a list of things on the docket for the new year.

Spring Finally

Wow is all I have to say. I have not blogged in two months. I am busy as usual. I have been occupied with getting my offspring off to adulthood. Yes, my only daughter will be graduating from high school next week. Her plans after high school are to attend college here at home and work in retail part-time. My daughter is an artist by heart. She paints, draws, plays guitar, and takes pictures. Sounds like a jack of all trades; right? Well, I am trying to guide her the best way I know how without forgetting she will be an adult in a couple of months. The hard part is trying to define the relationship of child to adulthood; while the adult to come is still living under your roof. The only thing I can do is pray for wisdom during this transition.

It looks like spring is finally here in the big city; however, mind you, we had snow last week. I don't know whether to wear my mink jacket or windbreaker. It has been really hard to dress with this flip floppy weather. That explains why I have a slight sore throat and my co-workers have called off sick as well. Just like life, we are not in control of the weather.

I have been playing around with the directions on how I want this blog to evolve. Between planning for my daughters life journey; I am also helping my middle sister plan for her upcoming nuptials this fall. Busy, busy, busy. Finding Your Passion

I have been on a little hiatus from blogging. I lost my way and I have been is some kind of funk. Lately I have been pondering on the idea of where I would like to take this blog or to continue at all. I must admit I get bored with things all the time and I can bet on its cause of not being content. In regards to finding passion in what I do, I am exploring ideas on where I can generate revenue and love what I do. I am in a bit of a crossroad with my career; juggling two jobs; one in education and one in fashion. I am passionate about style and making people look their best; however, I sometimes hate going to work at my job in fashion. I come to work and feel like I am going through the motions. I don't feel motivated whatsoever; and the people around me are not helping. Don't get me wrong, I am not the person that feels she needs to be motivated by others to do a job well done; however it does help to have serious, passionate, and genuine people who are in charge of your professional development. It is like an ode to passion. You fall in love with something and you find yourself hating the very thing that you were initially passionate about.

I am going to leave you with something that I heard off of a television show today: In order to be rich (monetarily), you have to find something that you feel passionate about and make it happen. I am on that journey as we speak.

I would like to take this opportunity to say Happy New Years. I hope 2014 is a very blessed year for you. I have been rather busy this past couple of weeks. Dealing with things in my personal life beyond my control and the year end blessings that the Creator has bestowed on my family. My husband and I received job promotions in which were not expected. Also, we had some unexpected FBI activity in our home due to a bank robbery that occurred behind my condo. It was a scary experience and inconvenient. However, the job promotions were the silver lining and people were not hurt.

I was reading an article the other day about the surge and popularity of blogs. Blogs are used as a personal diary or account of the writer which can be viewed by many people all over the world. Blogs can be a way to promote a business, personal interests, or vent out your personal feelings. What I retained out of the article is that some blogs can promote toxic ideas and feelings as well as positivity. In my opinion, if you are going to be toxic in a public forum, just remember that toxic energy is being viewed by many people. Ordinary people have access to a public forum which was once limited to your rich and famous and the people in the know. With this new found freedom of being able to disseminate information to large amounts of people in a short period of time; as a blogger, I need to be mindful of what I am putting out there into the universe. I no longer want to come off as being narcissist but to be helpful to others on my journey of wisdom and understanding.

Please give me a moment to re-construct my blog and bring something more meaningful to the world besides the latest fashion.

Winter Blast.... Bring Out the Big Guns (Parkas, Shearlings, Furs)

I am sure most of you are going through a winter blast. In the Chicago area, it is the norm. What has been on the minds of most people; those fashion forward people like myself is finding warm and fashionable outerwear. The outerwear that comes to my mind is shearlings and furs. To everyone's mind it may be that parka or puffer. You know the parkas and puffers that make you look 100lbs heavier than you are and are hard to walk in. Well, my fellow blogger out there Feather Factor (http://www.featherfactor.com) blogged about the perfect parka the other day and I just wanted to piggy back on what she discussed with a brand that I stumbled upon.

I have found the most stylish and warmest parka made by Mackage the other day. This Parka has several ways you can wear it. There are three layers of zippers to adjust the look of the coat. I had to go up a size in the parka because this brand tends to run smaller.

Mackage is a Canadian brand that specializes in cutting edge outerwear in tailored leather, puffy, and wool. The model seen here is known as the TRISH-F3 LONG BLACK DOWN JACKET WITH NATURAL FUR. The best part of the jacket is the raccoon hood that transforms into a shawl in the back. This is a very funky parka. Pre-Sales... After Thanksgiving

I hope all is well. I am re-cooping from cooking Thanksgiving dinner and working a full eight hours at Ann Taylor on Black Friday. It wasn't too crazy; however, the store became really busy within the last hour of my shift. It takes a patient person to work retail when you have 6 different questions coming from 6 different women at the same time. However, I welcome the challenge because it tests my limits. Anyways, I am sitting here typing and stretching out my new Christian Louboutin Geo Pumps (http://www.barneys.com/on/demandware.store/Sites-BNY-Site/default/Product-Show?pid=502682721). As I mentioned in earlier posts, I have the most difficult time with shoes especially Christian Louboutin. Every pair of Louboutins that I bought, I had to send them back to the store. I like the Geo pump because of the low kitten heel. These shoes are more realistic for me to wear than the sexy skyscraper shoes Christian is known for.

Has anyone taken advantage of the pre-sales that are going on now? I didn't take part in any Black Friday sales because what I like normally doesn't go on sale. These are the most comfortable, fashion forward boots that I have. I am going to try and wear sandals in the winter time with my leather pants; laughing out loud.

I was also lucky enough to grab my daughter some clothes from Ann Taylor. The clothes were like a $1.98 an item. I was able to get her 1 pair of jeans, 1 pair of pants, a sweater vest, and 4 tops for like $14.00. I would say this is one of the perks I like about working at Ann Taylor.

I was also able to get a price adjustment on the Saint Laurent tote I purchased about three weeks ago at Barneys. I needed a black workhorse bag that can carry all of my things. On a solemn note, I was reading articles about the actor Paul Walker. He passed away yesterday in an automobile accident. One of the things that stood out about the actor was, he was a movie star that didn't act like a movie star. He was a very genuine person stated by everyone that knew him . I was thinking wow, what a great legacy to have. Paul died doing what he loved; racing cars and helping people. Many Blessings to his family and all of you in the blogosphere.

Hello All,

October is here!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! This is my favorite time of the year. The crisp air. The changing of the colors, and of course my birthday. My birthday is coming up in about 2 1/2 weeks and it is a special one. I will be turning the big 4-0. Most people have qualms about getting older and I am one of those people. However, I look at getting older as a blessing. Hopefully you have learned the lessons and you are able to move on. I look back on my life and there are some things that I could have done differently; or I lament over not being where I want to be. As I really look beyond that, I am exactly where I need to be at the moment. I am a work in progress. Society pressures us on what makes us successful. Success is measured on who you know, what you know, what you have, and where you live. I am reading a book called The 7 Laws of Success by Herbert W. Armstrong. What I have read thus far; true success is not measured by those things. Many perceived successful and famous people have died and what they accomplished have died with them. The book teaches that materialism (anything you put above the Most High and His Purpose) is fleeting. It will never make you truly happy. To most, when you accomplish those things, it is never enough and more is almost wanted. I think learning to be content no matter what your situation and circumstances are is the hard part.

I have been on a crusade to purge my closet. My closet is where it needs to be. I can actually look in my closet and see what I have. I shop my closet. I have come to the point that I don't need more to be happy. My husband has congratulated me on my closet's chic new makeover. My soon to be 40 year old self is not afraid of buying things full price that I really want and fits me perfectly; my soon to be 40 year old self will bypass buying things on sale just because they are on sale; my soon to be 40 year old self will continue to grow and not look back on past mistakes and regrets; and my soon to be 40 year old self will continue to seek a piece of mind along with wisdom and understanding.

Wow It Has Been A Long Time

Wow, it has been a long time since I posted; June 30th.to be exact. I have been really busy with work and my personal life. As I mentioned before, I am thinking about a new direction in which to take this blog. When I don't blog, that means that nothing inspires me at the time. I have been just going with the flow of things and just taking it easy. I have embarked on a journey of minimalizing my closet and my life. I am definitely trying to cut down on buying things that I am not going to use and really concentrate on using the things I currently have. My motto is, whatever I bring into my closet; I must take something out. I find myself holding on to clothes that I wore when I was about 40 pounds heavier because of the quality and not being able to find something quite like it. Now that I approach the end of my 30s, my taste have definitely changed and remained the same. I know that sounds a little like oxymoron; but it is what it is. I reflected on my wardrobe tastes from my teens to now. What I have found that has never changed is I love denim shirts, leather, and black. I have a little rebel in me from my youth; however, I am a little more conservative now in my ways. I call it classic rebel. I love my sheath dresses, cashmere scarves, and diamond studs. I know who I am and I am comfortable with that a little more now. I have my flaws and strengths and that is what makes me who I am. What matters is what is in the heart and that is what matters when it comes to the CREATOR. As usual, here are some of my finds for the FALL.

FEED for Target

I am finally getting my groove back when it comes to blogging. This Sunday my hubby put his cooking skills to use with some dry rub hot wings. They were delicious. Anyways, I went to Target to check out the FEED for Target line. I found out about the line while browsing through a magazine at my hair salon. The advertisement caught my eye because of the denim vest being shown. You know I collect denim shirts and vests. Also, I always love the FEED line because of its RED campaign a few years back. Flip Flops..... To Love or Not To Love

I hope everyone is enjoying the weather. The weather here in Chicago has been iffy. We are experiencing weather that is normal for the month of April. I can't complain because at least we are getting rain instead of the drought of 2012. Also, many blessings to those that have experienced tornadoes and flooding.

With warmer weather brings the love hate relationship with flip flops. In my weekly team meeting yesterday, the Director was going over the dress code (fashion seems to be a little laxed in warmer months) for the summer. One of the things that he mentioned that struck a cord was no flip flops. There has been a lot of debate about the health reasons against flip flops causing arch and leg pain; foot viruses in the locker room/shower room; and fractures from missteps or weather. In the workplace, flip-flops are prohibited in some instances and are considered very casual wear in addition to sweats and shorts.

On the flip side, flip-flop wearers maintain that these are the go to shoes when going to get a pedicure, walking to and from the train station or just a comfortable shoe when out and about. I can actually say that I have a love hate relationship with flip-flops. As you may know, I often work 11 hour days with 4 hours being on my feet in retail. I wear flip-flops but I tend to wear more upscale ones with a twist. What I noticed after about 7 hours, my strap in between the toes is uncomfortable. I also have slight leg and arch pain the next day. The older that I get, I am in search for comfortable shoes that are stylish and have some arch support. I ordered some Gucci beach thongs to wear to work at Ann Taylor; however I am debating am I going to send them back. Any thoughts on flips-flop?

I Am Back

It has been two months since I last blogged. I have been extremely busy with work. I was working on a dress for success event with both my employers that includes Ann Taylor. We created an initiative to teach graduates how to dress for interviews and what to wear for work. At my primary job, we have to create initiatives along with my current job duties. The event was a success. One of the student models was offered a job at the new Loft flagship in Chicago.

I also have been contemplating which way I would like this blog to go. The blog started out as a self help for me and to inspire others as well. I want to focus on inspiring others.

In the past two months I have been out of town to Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and New York. Going to New York was one of the things I wanted to do before I leave this world. I would say that it is part of my bucket list. I enjoyed myself. You know I love all things authentic and I had my first authentic New York pizza slice; I saw a play off Broadway; rode the subway; and hired a New York cab. I had a wonderful time and ended my three state trip with an authentic Philly Cheesesteak from the Philadelphia airport I departed on my way back to Chicago Ohare.

Being employed by Ann Taylor, I took the initiative to visit the Ann Taylor in the King of Prussia mall in Pennsylvania and the Ann Taylor Flagship store on Madison Avenue in New York. I met some of my counterparts and had a glimpse of how Ann Taylor operates outside of the Chicagoland area. As usual, I am going to leave you with some of my favorite pieces from Ann Taylor. Eyelet

I am sitting as we speak babysitting my 2 month old niece and watching Joel Osteen. I am on the computer just surfing the Internet and thought I have not posted to my blog in a couple of weeks. I am going to be honest: I have to be inspired to write something I think maybe meaningful to my readers. I initially started this blog as a vehicle to inspire others as well as others inspiring me.

The topic of today is obeying. Joel Osteen was speaking about being obedient to God. My Spirit led me this morning to talk about eyelet. I was inspired by an interview at with Christina Minasian at http://stylelikeu.com/blog/designer-with-style-christina-minasian/. Christina is the designer behind Pencey. One of her starts was styling for the talented Lauryn Hill. Lauryn Hill spotted Christina working at Ralph Lauren wearing Adidas soccer shoes, Seven jeans,and a men's yellow cable sweater over an eyelet blouse. It reminded me of how much I love eyelet.

Eyelet is a small hole with finely stitched edges, forming part of an ornamental pattern. Eyelet seems to be the trend this Spring; however I remember it being the perfect verse to the start of Spring. Eyelet to me is a classical style that is also retro. I remember seeing it in early 50's and 60's fashion. Here are a couple of my favorite pieces.

I am enjoying my Sunday at home and decided to work on my blog. I was lost and found for about a month and I am trying to get my groove back. I want to welcome March in with a new fresh start. March is on the cusp of a new beginning to warm weather. However, with this weather here in Chicago it is hard to imagine warm weather. I am looking forward to seeing my best friend in a couple of months when I fly to Philadelphia. My friend and I are planning on driving to New York. I want to visit the flagship Ann Taylor store in New York. Since I work for Ann Taylor, I want to go to the mother ship. With spring on the horizon, I want to recommend some of my top picks. You know I am in love with black and white; however I have re-discovered a color that I loved when I was 15 and that looks very well on me according to other people. That color is yellow. Yellow is such a happy color. It is full of optimist which we need a little of.

Winter Blues

Good Evening To All,

Those of you that follow my blog are probably wondering where have I been. Busy for sure. Last month I became an Aunt again. I've been helping my sister because she is a first time mom. We welcomed little girl Marley to our already female dominated clan. She is a little darling. I also have a case of the winter blues. The winter always bring about change into a new year where you have to die so you can be re-birthed into something new, fresh, and exciting. The winter can also bring on the comfort foods that I enjoy but my things and butt hate. I love New England Clam Chowder and my favorite lemon ice from Culvers.

Today, I purged my purse collection because every year I go though a purging process. Last year it was my weight and this year it is my finances. I took out all the bags that I owned and realized that I had about five bags in the same color and 4 bags in the same styles but different colors. I was telling my husband how stupid is this. As you get older, you start to realize the things that people were telling you that now make sense. I realized that I had purses in my closet that I was holding on to for sentimental reasons (i.e. my Fendi moon bag and Gucci Tote purchased in Yokohoma, Japan). The bags were purchased 11 and 9 years respectively. They no longer served a purpose in my now life.

So, I gathered all the bags that no longer serve a purpose in my life and took them down to my local consignment shop. I didn't get much for them; however I was able to get enough money to apply towards a new bag: The Saffiano Large City Tote by Coach http://www.coach.com/online/handbags/-handbags_feature_saffiano-us-us-5000000000000332303-en?t1Id=62&t2Id=5000000000000332303&tier=2&LOC=hr1# as shown below. I was able to purchase this bag with my $100 coupon I received in the mail. Mind you, in the past I kind of lost favor with Coach because of quality issues, however this new saffiano line is great. The line reminds me of the old glory days of Coach. The saffiano bag rivals the saffiano bags by Prada.

I bought this bag as a work bag to carry my extra pair of shoes, lunch, style books from Ann Taylor and other reading material. I am happy about my purchase and it was well thought out. I was able to turn my unworn items into 1 new one that I am going to use quite frequently.

I promise I won't be gone this long again.... God willing.

Every year designers alike come out with the trends for the new year. Pantone http://www.pantone.com/images/header/hdr_logo_en-na.gif announced that emerald is the color of 2013. Other fashion insiders stated that 2013 is getting back to the basics. Black and white is the color that everyone should have in there wardrobe. This is not hard for me since the majority of my wardrobe has always been black. As I mentioned in earlier posts, I like what I like. When you have an authenticity about the wardrobe you choose, you will always be on trend. That is why I like my black and white and of course nautical stripes. My love of nautical is very close to me because of my stint in the United States Navy. Here are some of my favorite pieces.

Praise the Creator we have made it to another year. I hope everyone had fun celebrating New Years Eve. I kept it light. The family and I had a taste for some Outback Bloomin' Onion and wings. We assumed that the restaurant opened normal business hours which is 4PM. However, we arrived at 4PM and much to our amazement, the restaurant was full with a 60 minute wait. The family and I chose to grab our food and take it home. We had a great time last night. I enjoyed my 2 lobster tails and vegetables while being engaged with a bottle of wine. The whole family watched Sons of Anarchy until me the party pooper went to bed at 9:30.

I am looking forward to the new year. After reflecting on the previous year, I have made some large strides in being a better person. Instead of making a New Years resolution as I always do, I am going to continue on my journey of servicing others. Last year my New Years resolution was to lose weight in which I lost 40lbs. Someone once said that New Years resolutions normally start and end on January 1. With anything that you want to accomplish, it should be a work in process... something that is ongoing and not designated on a particular day. I feel that way with Christmas and all the other holidays. Why designate a certain day out of the year to do something that you should be doing anyway? That is just something to ponder. On a lighter note, the new year is a good way to wipe the slate clean and to start off with a new beginning; a new year.

Dressing With Authenticity

Merry Christmas,

I am here sitting on my couch just reveling in my time off from work. I have discover style.com on my husbands new dvd/sound system and I am glad I did. I have received some insight from one of my favorite actresses, Kerry Washington. Kerry was discussing her personal style and how she loved the way Rhianna and Lauren Hutton dressed. She stated that these women know exactly who they are and dress accordingly.

After many years of trying different trends and different looks, I finally know who I am. I am classic with a twist of rebel. When I was younger, I loved dressing in basic black form fitting clothing. I also loved boots and leather. I found my true authenticity by analyzing different looks over my lifetime. I always loved leather. Leather jackets, skirts, pants, and boots. I look at my grown-up closet, I own a black leather skirt, pants, jackets and boots. I like what I like.

What I have found visiting different blogs and watching many reality TV shows, is people define their style or best dress by owing a pair of red bottoms, a Birkin or Chanel flap, and a Rolex. I noticed that these women have no originality what so ever. You are considered well dressed if you own a bunch of labels and this is not the case. There is not any authenticity in that style of dress when you see millions of women dressing that way. I believe you should like something because you like it and it makes you feel your best. True style is knowing exactly who you are and dressing according to that psyche. It doesn't have to be the label of the week or cost thousands of dollars, but the item makes you feel your best.

One of the reasons I work at Ann Taylor is because I always loved the brand. I believe in order to inspire others, you must be inspired as well. Ann Taylor has been one of my go to's when I needed that suit for an interview or something fabulous to wear to that Christmas party. I am successful in my position because I identify with the brand. Ann Taylor is part of my true authenticity. I hope those of you out there find yours.

Accepting Yourself

I had a busy week this week. Yesterday, I threw my sister a baby shower for her first child. It was beautiful. Although things didn't go as plan like me arriving 45 minutes late, but the shower was really nice. It is hard to plan something for someone who is totally picky about what they eat. My sister doesn't eat deli meat (that eliminates sandwiches), she only eats chicken breast, and she can't have certain cheeses. So we end up serving pizza from a stone oven, Italian sodas, pasta salad, meatballs, fried chicken breast tenders, and a fruit tray. Everyone was pleased. Her colors were purple and purple. I even went as far to wear a shade of purple. I looked really cute. I bought a blouse from my favorite store of course, Ann Taylor www.anntaylor.com and some leather leggings from Neiman Marcus. I was rocker chic. I finished the look with some Cole Hahn leather boots that blended in with the leggings. After the day winded down, I reflected on how happy everyone was and how proud I am of my sisters. I have watched them grow into two beautiful young ladies with families of their own.

I am so thankful for my life. I have a job that I love, a family, and friends that love me as well. I took the day to clean out some of the paper clutter in my life and found a quote that I written down on December 31, 2010:

I don't believe that I am up at 1:30AM in the morning shopping. I was excited about the new Target and Neiman Marcus collaboration that I had my daughter stalk the website to let me know when it was time to buy. Typically, I don't fall prey to the designer collaborations with big tier stores since the whole Missoni spectacle (I end up giving most of my Missoni purchases away after my weight loss), but I had my eye on the leather studded gloves by Brian Atwood; the sweatshirt from Proenza Schouler and a fur vest from Skaist-Taylor. I also purchased my daughter a sweatshirt because she stood watch relentlessly to make sure I got what I wanted. The items can be found at both Target and Neiman Marcus online or in store. Normally, I would go into the store to see how the items were before I found them, however, I didn't feel like burning my gas; and stalking my local Target to be disappointed because my items are not there.
