Our team put together a meal, and Melanie, Ann & Ann's daughter Maya took the meal and a couple of small gifts for this young mom's new baby girl and her 18-month-old daughter. We're really looking forward to partnering with this young mom. She is in a tough situation, but she has all the potential she needs to turn things around for her family. She may not realize it yet, but God has a bright future and a hope for her!

A Message of Hope to the Hopeless

Last Saturday, the LWFC Helen Wright Team served lunch to the ladies at the center. As we went about our normal routine, I got a chance to really look into some of the faces of the women. What I saw, almost left me in a state of depression. One, because on their faces I saw, hurt, pain, disappoints, addictions, and every other thing unimaginable to those of us who have be fortunate enough to not to have experienced some of things they have.

For instance, there are 2 ladies that are expecting and are very close to delivery. Could you imagine carrying your child and not really being sure if you will be able to provide shelter for him or her? And to add more to the despair, another lady was there who had just lost her newborn baby 2 days before. She carried around a very nice picture frame that had a picture of her beautiful baby in it. She spent most of her lunch time starring at it almost non-stop, even while eating. As I watched her, I thought about how hopeless she must be feeling at that very moment. Fortunately, one of our team members was able to sit and not say much, but in a very loving way, point her in the right direction that will prayerfully begin her healing process.

I am not writing in an attempt to make anyone feel sorry, but to let you know the awesomeness of the responsibility that, we, who are in Christ have to minister reconciliation to the brokenness that is in the world today.

Join me in prayer as we ask God to continue to gird us up to have a word, a gesture, or a meal that will bring healing to the ladies at the Helen Wright Center for Women.

another great adventure

Our new support circle team is meeting for the first time on Sunday afternoon - nine people who are out to change our community's perception of what real Christians look like. We'll have great opportunities to love, not judge - to give our time, talents, and encouragement, expecting nothing in return. We're really looking forward to starting the process of getting matched with a family that's on their way back to independence.

World Missions

<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 213px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_fzI8QNNcJBk/SZ2vdV7p2II/AAAAAAAACNU/R_umGS5vMH0/s320/CR+top+5.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5304588854750730370" />

Have you seen the cool Costa Rican info booths that are by the kiosks? They make just want to grab a cup of coffee and tell somebody about Jesus. The talented team that designed and built those booths is part of one of the five teams that will impact Costa Rica this summer.

All of the teams are going to make a major impact on people’s lives. Talk about making an impact, there are not just Spanish speaking individuals come in to learn English, but it is becoming a regular United Nations with students from Haiti, Iran, China and Korea.

The other day one of the tellers at the bank told me her sister in law was attending the ESL class. Pretty cool we are making an impact not just on the people attending the class but with the community as well.

The students are learning about the Word of God as they learn English. They have learned to sow seeds and about serving. One of the students who works two jobs and doesn’t even have a car asked when he could start serving because he had read in his lesson that it was good to serve. Lives are being impacted almost every Thursday. A great team producing great results, the ESL team.

plans for a bright future and a hope (Jer. 29:11)

You may have read Kelsie Newby's (you know, the cool chick with the red guitar) amazing story in the last issue of Impact Magazine. When Kelsie decided to turn her life around, there was a circle of people from 24/7 who loved and encouraged her while she made the hard choices it took to walk out of her old life. They allowed God to use them to heal her (remember the salt covenant?) by praying for her, calling and spending time with her, and modeling a new way of life.

Would you like to be part of a circle of people that cheers on a single parent family getting back on their feet after homelessness? You can find out what's involved, what the time commitment would be, and who you'd be working alongside this Sunday, Feb. 15, from 1 to 2 pm in the Junior Kidz Room. Contact Cindy Rice at supportcircle@gmail.com for more information.

LWFC Help to Tackle Hunger in Wake County

Over the past 2 weeks, LWFC members donated 3/4 of a ton of food for the Urban Ministries of Wake County's food pantry. Members were challenged to donate food towards their favorite superbowl team. Within the last few minutes before halftime, the Pittsburg Steelers fans came in at a whopping 394 pounds. Trailing by a small amount was the Arizona Cardinals fans at 370. Later donations came in bringing the total donated to 778 pounds.

According to an UM employee, the LWFC donation came at a time when the pantry was running low. The Urban Ministires' Food Pantry continues to service more and more families as the economy continues to decline. Hats off to UM!!!

LWFC is honored to be a part of helping to provide meals on the tables of families within Wake County.

If you would like to learn more about what LWFC is doing in the local community and abroad, log on to http://www.lwfc.org/, click on Outreach.

Special Projects On The Move Again

If you don't know about special projects, let me let you in on a secret.
Special projects is the behind the scene team that gets the job done. You say to yourself " What job" ? Any job or project that needs attention. For instance
Harvest Crusade Usher Meeting where we served a continental breakfast forty
persons, Dominion by the Word, we have served breakfast and dinners for our
awesome volunteers, Decorated for our Leadership updates 3 D. Had the privilege
of meeting the women at the Helen Wright Center and taking them out for their Spa Day. It consisted of getting their nails, hair and a dinner. What a fabulous day we had with them. The women wanted to have their time out with us every month if it was possible. We also had a Day out for getting laundry cleaned while our L.W.F.C family cared about getting their center cosmetically done.We all went to the movies. They had a blast!. At Christmas time we also participated in giving the H.W.C gifts for the women. Rolling Duffel bags with all kinds of things inside the bags. It was truly overwhelming for them, but I think the best part of it all was when I cried and saw truly the Love of God being extended out to them by God letting us be His extended hands. Wow, was that powerful ! We've also worked on giving our teachers at Wake Field High School Starbucks gift cards for a job well done. So busy in the last 2yrs.

Now we're excited about preparing for our 1st 5K run/walk in Oct 10th 2009. Our LWFC family will be outreaching to our community. Our special project team is now in the planning stage. We look forward to seeing God put all this together because
I surely wouldn't be able to accomplish this without Him. P.Jamie can surely tell you
I was not such a happy camper when this project came to our door. I said to myself " How am I gonna get this project done? " I have no clue as to what to do.
Why me? since I'm the team leader and I have to lead my team. Why this one God?
This is to big, but God always has a way of letting you know that He is in control and not you. He has allowed people to come into the life of my team and me who know more about this than me. He knows what I could do and can't and still tells me to say " I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me".He's always in control. Thank God for God!!!So I would ask that you all pray for us as a team that all thing will come together for the good of our community and the souls that still need to be reached.

In His Service,
Louise Zayas
Special Projects Team Leader

P.S.

I have an awesome team that I can not do without.and I love each of them. This is a welcome message to anyone needing shelter from the very dangerous freezing weather.

The HWC normally houses 38 women who are transitioning from homelessness to stable housing. However, during the freezing weather, they will provide a sleeping space, blankets and a warm breakfast for the additional ladies. This is indeed an awesome thing as statistics show that the below freezing weather causes more deaths that the hot summer season.

On Saturday, January 17, the HWC Team not only got the opportunity to provide a warm breakfast to the ladies at the center, but also one women who came in out of the cold. We were very excited to be a part of helping to save lives is a small but unique way.

What a great opportunity to be used by God as we serve in our community.

If you like to be a part of helping to serve meals at the HWC, visit http://www.lwfc.org/, click on outreach.

loaves and fishes

I've been thinking about how Jesus and the disciples fed the crowds of 5,000 and then 4,000 (actually that many men and then lots of women and children, too!). I remember when I was a single parent and was asked to start a ministry at my church to reach out to separated and divorced people in our community. I had a full time job and was raising two sons on my own, and I felt stretched to the max physically, emotionally, mentally, and financially. One mid-week night when I was feeling particularly spent, I asked the Lord how in the world I could possibly add one more thing to my plate - especially something that looked so big. The answer in my heart was, "If you'll give Me your loaves and fishes, you'll be surprised at what I can do with them." As I held my breath and stepped out with a couple friends in my church, we began to see Him change lives - including ours. What are your "loaves and fishes"? A couple of hours in an already packed schedule? Some cans of food when your grocery budget is already stretched? A few encouraging words and a smile when you could really use some encouragement yourself? Give them to God and see what amazing things He will do through us as a church family, as together we leave our mark.

New Believers Ministry

Who we are: A team of folks that meet with the New Believers right after they have given their lives to Christ.

What we do: Get their contact information and contact them for a couple of weeks; be available to them if they have any questions.

Why we do it: Because we love it.

This team is one of the greatest teams at LWFC. Although you're probably saying to yourself, "no, my team is the greatest of all teams at LWFC." But you're wrong. I'm sorry.
What makes this the greatest team is that we get to be the very first people to meet brand new people. If that doesn't make any sense, let me explain it.

2 Corinthians says: "Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new."

We get to be their first friend, first smile, first hug, first everything. They are a brand new creation. What's more, is getting to see them grow, even though sometimes it is as if they blew up.

It's pretty shocking to look back at the short year that I have been a team leader and see the growth. There are so many amazing testimonies of people that have given their lives to Christ here at LWFC and have had a truly remarkable turn-around in their life and the lives of those around them.

Let me give you an example.

Kyle Chatley
I am totally going to embarrass him with this post, but it needs to be done.
Kyle first started coming to LWFC in the beginning of 2008. He rededicated his life to Christ in February and was baptized that same day. He came and filled out the card, and the New Believer team jumped in to his life. He started coming regularly to most every service, and joined many teams, serving allover LWFC.
After a few months of watching him grow in Christ, I asked him to join my team. He, of course, said yes.

One of my favorite things to share about Kyle is his love for his mother. He would ask us to pray for her and her circumstances and mostly, for her salvation. When I would see them together I could see that truly loved her.

In August of 2008, his prayers were answered. His mother, Kathy gave her life to the Lord in an LWFC service. It was really hard to contain my emotions as I went up to congratulate them. In November of 2008, she was also baptized. It has been an amazing experience to watch them both grow together, not only in Christ, but as a family.

So now, Kyle is leaving our team for awhile. On January 20, 2009, Kyle will be entering boot camp to serve our country in the Army.

We will definately miss his smiling face around here, but we know that his huge impact will not ripple and fade away. He has touched many lives and has shown Christ to many people.

Please keep Kyle and our New Believers team in your prayers as we all serve God together.

~Kelsie~

Something cool that Xerox is doing

Chenique Rodriguez found this great site to send letters to soldiers this season. I posted her email below, you should consider sending a letter. If you are or were in the service...Thank you, we may never know what you

have saved us from.

If you go to this web site, www.LetsSayThanks.com you can pick out a thank you card and Xerox will print it and it will be sent to a soldier that is currently serving in Iraq . (Webster’s definition.)

This is Will Buckles. Will is a member of LWFC who along with several other team members volunteer their time on the 1st and 3rd Saturday of every month to serve meals at the Helen Wright Center for Women. A place where women are transitioning from homelessness to stability.

Once, Will had the responsibility of chopping the onions. He didn’t know it, but we kept watching to see if we could catch him with his eyes watering from the onions so that we could take his picture. His bravery outweighed our desire. Whether chopping onions, making biscuits, or setting tables, Will’s desire to serve represents all of our volunteers as they are always eager to jump in and do whatever is needed to carry out the mission. Their “will” to serve is one of the key elements that drive us to continue in the fellowship as we reach out to those in need in small but significant ways. There is a saying that, “Where there’s a Will there’s a way. In this case, I’ll change it to say, “Where there’s a “Will”, there’s always an opportunity to grow God’s Kingdom”.

If you have a will to serve meals at the Helen Wright Center, find out how by logging onto www.LWFC.org, under Outreach.

Support Circle Information Meeting

Roberta Macauley, the coordinator of the Support Circle Program of Raleigh's Ten-Year Plan to End Homelessness, will be here at LWFC this coming Sunday, Sept. 14! The Urban ministry staff said that this was perfect timing because they are beginning to have an influx of people because of the rising cost to live in Raleigh. What a great work you all did. Thank you to everyone who had the smallest part in this. This may sound cliche, but it must be said. You have helped people you will never meet and will not really be able to see the impact you made until you are in heaven.
Here are some pictures that we took the day we dropped the food off.

Meet Kasey and family

Why would a 24-year-old single mom who has slept in her car or on somebody’s living room floor since February and had to place her three small children in foster care have a bright smile on her face? Because 7 people with “beautiful feet” have surrounded her with encouragement and hope in small ways as she takes her life back one step at a time.

Meet Kasey, who along with her children Amia (age 5), Alexus (age 4), and Jaden (age 1), are LWFC’s first support circle family. Kasey is completing the program at the Helen Wright Center. With the coaching and encouragement of the support circle, Kasey has found more stable employment, is saving toward getting her car repaired, is looking for an apartment within her budget, and is working through the process with Wake County Human Services to reunite her family. Accustomed to people taking advantage of her vulnerability, Kasey was curious as to why anyone would help her and ask nothing in return. After visiting LWFC a few times, Kasey found her answer and rededicated her life to Jesus.

If you’d like to help Kasey with occasional transportation to church or to appointments, donate items such as toiletries or clothing items as she’s getting back on her feet, or invite her over for a meal and just hang out, contact Cindy Rice at supportcircle@gmail.com.

VBS Update

Hey everyone, We have had an awesome week here in Costa Rica! Not only did we get to do VBS for the children and their parents, but we were able to minister on the streets of Heredia. We had 110 people give their hearts to the Lord, 30% of that were adults. We were also able to sow many seeds into hundreds of lives. It was great being able to share some time with Pastor Steve and Pastor Bruce, and Pastor Steve did an awesome time giving the salvation message last night and Pastor Bruce made a great Goliath! (Yes, we have pictures) The team really jelled. We were really able to become one and work together. What an amazing experience.
Today we went on a trip to La Paz Waterfalls. It is in a rainforest, and has the most beautiful waterfalls. We hiked around for over three hours and got to visit the butterfly sanctuary, see hundreds of birds and even play with some monkeys. The sites were amazing! It was great getting to spend that time together as a team and experience things together for the first time.
The street ministry took place in a big park that was a major bus stop. We were there for two days and got to spend a couple of hours there each day. The Mission Trip "Trio" (Kelsie, Sebrina and Patrick) played some music, and a few of the team members were able to give some life changing testimonies. Not only for those listening, but they were being set free themselves. Everyone had a chance to shine for the Lord and stepped way out of their comfort zone. None of us will ever be the same.
We started each morning with Praise and Worship and group devotional time before we headed off to minister to Heredia. We also took time to pray with our prayer partners. At night we closed the day with a group debriefing time. We shared our experiences through the day, favorite memories and how the Lord worked in our lives.
Monday-Wednesday we went door-to-door to invite families to the basketball court for VBS. We did skits, coloring, face painting, games and of course, altar calls where so many children and their parents committed their lives to Christ. On Wednesday morning we had the grand finale at Pueblo of Cristo where we invited everyone back to play games, do more skits and give away prizes, one of which was an Ipod Shuffle. Wednesday night we shared more testimonies and Pastor Steve ministered. Seven more people committed their lives to Christ.
Tomorrow we are closing out the trip with a breakfast prepared by our host family. The Sanchez family has been such a blessing to us, our church and the kingdom of God. We are excited to be spending this time with them.
We are excited to be going back home tomorrow to tell you more about the trip, but will miss our family here in Heredia, Costa Rica.
Thank you for all your prayers and financial support that you have given us. Those souls count for you.
The VBS Missionaries
Here are a few pictures.

La Paz Waterfalls

Final Day of VBS

Morning devotionals

VBS Does More Than VBS!

Here is an email I received from the VBS team in Costa Rica. They are doing more than just VBS. I am so proud of them for making the quick changes needed after we found out we did not have the permit to practice medicine in CR. Hopefully I can get some pictures real soon. When I do I will send them.

Hey Jamie,

All is well. We had a very profitable day for the kingdom of God today!!!
We went door to door inviting people for the VBS program. We had a very succesfull
VBS program this morning in a baskeball court about 4 blocks from the church. This afternoon, we went to the Bus Stop Park and did street ministry. It was so great to see every one steping out of their confort zone for Jesus. We did some face painting and a lot of evangelism. Total 34 people got saved today. We invited a bunch of people to the Wed. night crusede.
Our morning devotional is going very well. We have a great M.T TRIO (Patric. Kelsey, Sabrina) that
are doing a very anointed Job.
We are expecting great thingd tomorrow. We are standing in Luke 4:18.

I'll try to keep you updated tomorrow. Thank you for your help.

Lucia

Youth Mission Last Days!

Wow, this trip has went by really fast but very fruitful. We’ve ministered to over 2000 people and had more than 300 salvations. I’ll get a more accurate count for you later.

Our last day of ministry we went to the park and did our program and talked to and prayed with many people. Wed night we had our crusade night and it was a success, everyone had lots of fun.

Thursday was our free day and we went to the beach! We didn’t get into the water because the currents are so strong, but we shopped in the little town, ate yummy Costa Rica food and then in the afternoon we rode horses up the mountain overlooking the ocean, it was amazing! After that we went down to the beach and ate fruit and PB&J sandwiches.

Thank all of you for your support, your missionaries have been a great blessing. Leaving your footprint in this world takes faith AND works. One of the opportunities we have at LWFC to have “beautiful feet” is to join a support circle team. What’s a support circle? It’s a group of 6 to 10 people who come alongside a family who has been in a homeless shelter or transitional housing as they take steps to find permanent housing and become financially stable. This support can take the form of teaching them to budget their money, helping them look for an apartment, coaching them in how to maintain stable employment, and modeling good parenting skills. Occasional resources are also needed like transportation to meetings or help with moving. If you’d like to learn more about how you can be part of a support circle team or provide occasional resources, contact Cindy Rice at supportcircle@gmail.com.

New and Old Friends

Wow, what a great day of ministry! Yummy!

The hotel that we are staying in is really nice, everyone has enough space in their rooms, the grounds here are beautiful, we are up on a hill a little so you can see the whole city at night.

The team is healthy and happy. Our first ministry site was at a school, we did the drama and many skits for about 300 children and about 50 of them committed their lives to Jesus and he used your child to do it.

After a great lunch of spaghetti we went to another school and did the program again and it was a great success.

The director of both schools said that no one has ever came in and did anything like this before and they usually don’t grant permission to anyone, so we have favor here in Costa Rica.

Driving through the busy streets here in Heredia, Jamie was right, everyone is rockin the” fauxhawk” (it’s a hairstyle). So we’ve been counting them like Jenn Tobler counts mullets.J

It’s so beautiful here, yesterday afternoon the rain set in so we went back to the church and since we have most of the band here they did some praise and worship and we got to spend some time with our partners here.

Jose, is the Associate Pastor here. Great guy, we’re in his inner circle if he gives you ice cream.

Carlos & Raisa are our main contacts and they translate for us in addition to their family.

After dinner (beans & rice) and yummy cookies and of course Costa Rican coffee we headed back to the hotel for commissioning.

Commissioning is a session that is very special to me, we did some worship and then Aaron and I laid hands on and each individual and prayed for them and spoke into their lives and commissioned them to take the gospel to the streets of Heredia. It was a quiet, soft worship, emotional, amazing time and God ministered to each missionary differently.

We all got really good rest and we’re ready this morning for a full day of ministry at the market. They’ll be about 20,000 people there to I can’t wait to tell you what happens today.

Thanks for praying for us, we feel it.

Until all have been told,

Tammy Queen
