Kimpton has officially announced that they will be operating a six-story, 190-room hotel that will be built on the former site of Palm Springs’s Desert Fashion Plaza. The new Hotel Palomar will include a “chef-driven, destination restaurant,” meeting and event space, and a rooftop bar and pool, which, somehow, is a first for Palm Springs. I know, that sounds unbelievable to me too. Wessman Development is in the midst of demolishing the old shopping center, and the new Kimpton Hotel is expected to open its doors in 2015. The redevelopment of the 14-acre Fashion Plaza site will eventually also include retail, restaurants, office space, and new streets.

The Palm Hotel

Planned as a four-story, high-end boutique hotel with 51 rooms, including 11 suites, The Palm Hotel will be located in downtown Palm Springs. It will neighbor Le Vallauris to the west, the Palm Springs Art Museum to the Northwest, the Palm Springs Promenade (to be redeveloped as Museum Market Plaza) to the Northeast, a three-story hotel to the east, and Casa Cody to the south.

The main hotel building will be futuristic, with a wide, swooping metal facade, protecting a hip pool scene with cabanas. On top of the hotel there will be a roof lounge, similar to the Standard Hotel in Los Angeles.

Catering to upscale travelers, room rates are expected to range from $300 to $400 per night. The Palm Hotel will offer 500-thread count sheets, plasma screen tvs, down pillows, an onsite restaurant and meeting facilities.
