NEW YORK: Wall Street Journal columnist Walt Mossberg called the iPhone a 'major leap' over 'its already-excellent predecessor'.

Apple Inc's iPhone 4 will "dazzle" consumers with its thinner redesign, "radically" sharper screen, higher-resolution front-facing camera and updated operating system, reviewers said.

The iPhone 4 feels "denser and tighter" than the 3GS, Wall Street Journal technology columnist Walt Mossberg wrote in a review today. Sound is "much better on both ends" of a call, according to David Pogue in the New York Times.

Mossberg called the phone a "major leap" over "its already excellent predecessor." Apple's fourth-generation phone goes on sale tomorrow at the same cost as the iPhone 3GS . The 16GB model sells for $199 and the 32GB model for $299, each with a two-year contract from AT&T Inc.

Apple, based in Cupertino , California , has received more than 600,000 preorders for the phone. Dallas-based AT&T, the exclusive US carrier for the iPhone, said June 15 that it has booked 10 times as many preorders for the new model as it did for the 3GS last year.
USA Today technology columnist Edward C Baig said the smartphone is "the one to beat, even as it faces fierce competition from phones based on Google's Android platform." Mossberg praised the video calling and long-lasting battery, writing that "even in heavy use, the iPhone 4's battery never reached the red zone on a single day of my tests."

Fewer dropped calls
Pogue wrote "the new phone is also better at choosing the best channel for connecting with the cell tower," leading to fewer dropped calls in New York and San Francisco . Baig, Mossberg and Pogue all presented the phone's drawbacks. The biggest is "Apple needs a second network," Mossberg said. Apple also has allowed only certain applications to "fully multitask" to avoid "a disastrous drain on battery life," Mossberg wrote. There are more than 225,000 applications that run on the iPhone, according to an Apple statement. "The technically inclined may find greater flexibility and choice among its Android rivals," Pogue wrote. Baig added that "critics are left with reasons to whine." The iPhone 4 "is still, overall, the best in its class," Mossberg wrote. Apple fell $2.88 to $270.97 at 4:30 p.m. time in Nasdaq Stock Market trading. The shares have climbed 29 per cent this year and have more than doubled in the past year.

Apple today released iOS 4.2 GM for developers and guess what? iOS 4.2 is vulnerable to Redsn0w 0.9.6 b2 released by iPhone dev team. You can jailbreak your iPhone 3G, iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4, iPod Touch 2G, iPod Touch 3G, iPod Touch 4G and iPad running on iOS 4.2. Needless to mention but if you use Ultrasn0w to unlock your phone should stay away from Apple Stock Firmware update and Redsn0w.

Current version of ultrasn0w unlock works for all firmware from OS 3.0 up to iOS 4.01, for more information check our previous guide to Unlock Baseband 04.26.08, 05.11.07, 05.12.01 and 5.13.04 With Ultrasn0w.

NOTE : Don’t install cydia because it’s not compatible with iOS 4.2, if you are not a developer than stay away.

Today Apple released to developers the GM seed for 4.2. Tinkerers will find that yesterday’s redsn0w jailbreaks today’s 4.2 GM seed, simply by pointing redsn0w at the 4.1 IPSW (rather than the 4.2 one). Right now it mostly only makes sense for JB app developers to do that because many apps (including Cydia itself) need to be updated for 4.2. However, if all you want to do is enable afc2 (to use iFunBox or other file browsers), or to tweak settings like Battery % and Homescreen wallpapers, then go for it (if you have valid paid access to the GM seed). Be sure to uncheck the Cydia box, though!

How to Unlock iPhone 3G(S) on iOS 4.2.1 with Ultrasn0w and Redsn0w [Guide]

As promised in our previous post, here is the step by step guide to unlock iOS 4.2.1 on iPhone 3G, 3GS using Reds0w and Ultrasn0w.

First we will update the baseband to iPad 06.15 and jailbreak the iPhone with Redsn0w. After the device is jailbroken, we can use Ultrasn0w from Cydia to unlock the device. Find the complete guide after the break.

Please read these instructions and warnings before you start the actual process:

1. There is no way to come back down from 06.15, and there’s no hiding the baseband version from Apple. You’ll be voiding your warranty in a very obvious way.
2. If some future baseband comes out with a critical fix, you won’t be able to update to it if it remains down in the 05.xx sequence (then again, you wouldn’t update to it if you wanted to keep your unlock anyway).
3. Starting with FW 4.2.1 if you have 06.15 on your iPhone you won’t ever be able to restore to stock firmware (it will fail). You’ll need to only restore to custom IPSWs (then again, if you’re unlocker you should already be doing that).

Step 1: Download iOS 4.2.1 for your idevice.

Step 2: Download iTunes 10.1 and install it on your PC.

Step 3: Back up all the contents on your phone before you start the actual jailbreak process.

Step 4: Save the SHSH blobs if you are still on iOS 4.1 or below version. !very important

In fact, thinking me an iPhone Guru, every day one or two friends of mine came here at my place to get their iPhones unlocked on iOS 4.2.1.
Initially I experienced many problems, but the one which was very irritating to me was:

iTunes unbearable errors like 14, 3194, 1600 etc

After using different types of tips, tricks and softwares I have got sort of mastery to bypass and resolve these error and I thought that I should share my experience with the readers of this blog.
How to Bypass Errors 14, 3194, 1600 etc?
These are very common errors which you may face during RESTORE process. The one and only solution to bypass such errors is, at least which worked for me, to use a pwned DFU mode. There are three softwares available for this purpose:

Redsn0w for both Mac and Windows users
iREB for Windows users only
PwnageTool for Mac users only

Being a windows users I don’t know much about PwnageTool and how well it performs to bypass these errors but in the remaining two softwares iREB is my favourite now.
I tried Redsnow many times but it didn’t work for me and whenever I used iREB, I got success. Here is how to use iREB to get the PWNED DFU mode:

Download iREB for windows here. Though it supports up to iOS 4.1 but it also works on latest iOS 4.2.1 too, at least for me.
Close iTunes.
‘Connect your iPhone with PC after switching it off.
Launch iREB.
Select your device on the screen of iREB UI and follow the onscreen instructions.
If you get DFU mode, the screen of your idevice must be blank (black).
Now use iTunes to restore iOS 4.2.1 on your iPhone without any error.

Sometimes your idevice may stick into the recovery mode. Here is the solution to get rid of this problem.

Connect your iPhone stuck in Recovery Mode or at Apple Logo with PC.
Lauch iREB.
Select the device on the screen of iREB. ( Its important before you follow next step.)
Now keep pressed both Home and Power buttons to turn the device off.
As the device turns off (black screen), release Home button, but never release Power button.
As soon as Apple logo re-appears, press the Home button again.
The screen will go black again after 5-6 seconds. But don’t release any button (Home + Power) till next 5 seconds.
After 5 seconds, release the Power button but keep pressed Home button until iREB recognises the DFU mode.
iREB will put the device into limera1ned DFU mode.

If you don’t get the DFU mode, retry again and again. After few attempts you will succeed. Now launch iTunes and restore the stock or custom iOS 4.2.1 on your iPhone 3GS, 3G, iPod Touch, or Apple TV to jailbreak or unlock it.
If you still get any error during the restore process, restart your PC and try different USB port. If you are using the front-side, use the rear one and if on left side, use the one at right side, according to your PC.
After using all the tricks mentioned above, I am still getting errors.
Use another PC then.

We have been hard at work on this and it is my pleasure to announce that effective today, developers from 20 more countries can now sell paid apps on Android Market. Additionally, over the next 2 weeks, users in 18 additional countries will be able to purchase paid apps from Android Market.
Support for paid application sales is now expanded to developers in 29 countries, with today’s additions of Argentina, Australia, Belgium, Brazil, Canada, Denmark, Finland, Hong Kong, Ireland, Israel, Mexico, New Zealand, Norway, Portugal, Russia, Singapore, South Korea, Sweden, Switzerland and Taiwan.
