Anyways, sidetracked, my point is I work from home and it is VERY noisy sometimes… Skype calls with overseas clients… forget it… I need to run a disclaimer that says “a child may burst in at any moment to see who you are” ..and before you all comment (like nobody does!) “why don’t you lock the door?” Well… one day when Seb REALLY wanted to come in, after I had to turn him around and send him out, he slammed my old victorian door so hard that the lock broke proper like… Yeah…

Don’t get me wrong, there are GREAT parts to working from home, too… I mean, sure, I need to stay up late if I want to concentrate on an article or statistics or Farmville**

The great things are this… If I want to, at any point during the day, I can walk out and give my little man a cuddle, I can chat to my missus, I can sit outside and watch master 3 go around and around on his bike… I’ve got to learn to put the iPhone down more often and spend more time listening to Seb though… it will come! at least I’m aware… Oh, and I can make my own coffee

I know what a mid-life crisis is, I’ve seen friends have them. I felt like I was headed towards one this week. Suddenly I wanted a motorbike and to be playing in a band and to quit my job and move to a farm and have six sheep and some cows…

But I didn’t…

We’ve got this thing going on called life – we make choices, they point us where we’re going, they stop us in our tracks.

Sometimes these choices aren’t the right ones and that’s OK… Mistakes go hand in hand with choices.

Today I went for a walk with my wife and my little boy, we wandered to the park, off the beaten track into the bushes as Sebastian calls it… Take a minute to stop – stop the noise and enjoy what you have. It’s really hard.

I was looking for some images for a client from last year earlier, and came across the truck photo below, and thought it’d be interesting to do a comparison…

So that’s Seb with his first Tonka, the one I stood on and near died / split it in half… He’d been two for about three months. Still has that concentrated ‘tongue out of the mouth’ running with trucks face on…

This one is from a few weeks ago, different park, different truck… Same manic run (he’s on two wheels for this one!)

I’ve been wondering “why is coffee so expensive in Australia” and that thought coupled with “should I be buying locally to support local growers and a slowly dying market” has added up to a tiny bit of research… ongoing research… but research that start here. Tonight.

I thought I’d start by working out what I was paying, roughly but you know.. work it out.. So, 1kg of Coffee Supreme “Supreme Blend” beans costs me $40.00 (AUD) and that bag of beans lasts me almost invariably two weeks… I worked out (And I say roughly as I’m sure I missed a couple and a couple of them were consumed by Kate, too, so it works out even) that I made around 51 cups of coffee. Of those cups, I’d say about 10 contained milk, mostly though – this month – espresso. (looks down at stomach, waves)

I won’t go down the machine depreciation, water, electricity, milk and time costs in this blog post (but will at some point) ….however, just based on beans alone, my coffees cost me around $0.78 each…
