Ladies and gentlemen - readers of all ages....Guilty Indulgence Book Club is pleased to participate once again in the annual Hop Against Homophobia And Transphobia (#HAHAT for those social media savvy) Last year we reviewed some great books and paid tribute to a beautiful author who left us too soon. This year we look forward to bringing more great authors, stories and romances to our Indulgent readers.

While our book club has that modern mix of women and men, straight and gay, our focus has always been on romance and Love in all its forms. One of the most important aspects of Love has to be it's connection to Hope. For those who have Love, who love and are, in turn, loved, Hope resides in the heart and mind. Hope allows one to celebrate the good times and weather the bad ones. Hope allows one to succeed and to fight and to give others Hope. For many GLBTQ youth, Hope is hard to find. It is our greatest wish that all who read these reviews this week take the time to spread the message of Hope at all times. Be the message to our diverse youth population that fear, hatred and intolerance are not acceptable. Help us spread the message that it does get better, there will be equality, they are accepted and give them Hope!

REVIEW

OK so I am enjoying going out of my comfort zone and picking out new authors to read. I am so happy to have another winner to report on. SJD Peterson “Jo” is yet another amazing find for me. I LOVE this book. Not so much because of the BDSM or the M/M or the D/s – yes you know that I would read it! It’s more about the writing style and the characters themselves. Micah will break your heart. You just want to hug him and let him know that he isn’t damaged. His mind wonders and I can so relate to that. I agree with the whole concept of adult ADD and not being able to focus. I have to warn people that I’m traveling with that if they turn around and I’m not there not freak out and to just call me on my cell phone. Something just caught my eye and I wondered off forgetting that I was with a group. It happens to me all the time!!! What Micah is going through is described brilliantly. Arghhh!!!!

Now you add Tackett, older Dom who isn’t afraid to admit that he might not be what Micah needs. For someone that hasn’t been through it they have no idea what it’s like. He doesn’t just give up though. Instead he reaches out for help because he WANTS to be what Micah needs. It is so refreshing to read a story about two people who are working through a relationship together instead of the more common ones where they fight and argue through a whole book only to finally get together in the last couple of pages. You know the kind that you just want to through against the wall and scream that the characters should just grow up and get over themselves. Yes, Micah is struggling and yes, Tackett doesn’t have all the answers at first but that’s OK because they are still together. And oh my, Tackett’s description of the trust needed between Dom and Sub brings tears to your eyes. Peterson, you grabbed hold of my heart with this story and I would not hesitate to pick up another of your books. You deserve 5 chocolate dipped strawberries and congratulations. You are an amazing author. Happy reading everyone.

When a teacher assigns Cassidy and Brynn to work together on a project, the girls find themselves in a heap of trouble, because what they feel for each other can’t be denied. If they have any hope of changing ignorant and frightened minds, they’ll have to listen to their own hearts first.

REVIEW
So the first thing that drew me to this book was the cover and it really could not have fit the description of the MC's better. I had their images in my mind the whole time I was reading.

This book read very true to the hierarchy and cliques that I remember from high school. And the verbiage that the author used sounded a lot like my own teenage daughter and her friends so that was spot on.

Cassidy at first comes across as a bitch but as you get further into the story you realize that most of it is a defense measure. Her protective nature really comes out once she admits her feelings to herself and from that point on you messed with Brynn at your own risk.

Brynn's shyness was adorable and I was so happy when she finally found her voice and stood up for herself. My heart broke for her at the betrayals that she experienced on several different fronts. She was a much more forgiving person than I think I could have been in her shoes.

The secondary character's played such an important role in this story, some good and some bad. I wish every teenager could have a Nana in their corner no matter their sexual orientation.

This is a sweet, emotional story of first love and the heartache that comes when not everyone is accepting. Would be a great read for any teenager in your life!

Review

The main character is Paul Auster. He is socially ackward, thinks he’s overweight and has zero self confidence. His best friend is Sandy aka the drag queen Helena Handbasket. On Pauls 30^th birthday he is sitting in the balcony at Helenas show when he sees Vince. Vince is the most gorgeous man Paul has seen and immediately dismisses him as being out of his league. Vince notices Paul as well and much to Pauls disbelief pursues him. Paul resists at first, worried that Vince is messing with him, but Paul can’t hold out with Sandy and his family pushing him to believe in himself. Even Gigi’s homophobic parrot and Pauls 2 legged dog, Wheels like Vince.
This book will make you LOL but what I really loved is the message that even if you don’t fit in the “mold” that society has deemed acceptable you are valued and loved for who you are. And although it takes an intervention from the Auster family and Sandy, Paul finally chooses to believe he deserves love and happiness with Vince.

I loved this book. I laughed so hard I was crying. This definitely gets 5 chocolate dipped strawberries!

REVIEW:

For someone who has known his whole life that he would be a Marine, also realizing that you are gay doesn't make things easy, but Brenden wasn't giving up his dream. Now that DADT has been repealed maybe he can finally connect with Liam the boy from high school that he always wanted.

Liam can't resist meeting with Brenden when he gets the call from 1Night Stand, but he has know idea why his once protector wants to see him.

Have you ever wondered what happen to that unfulfilled crush that you had in high school? A Marine and a Gentleman answers one version of that question.

When the two men meet at the restaurant Liam's attitude is understandable. He is cautious and doesn't believe that Brenden is gay at first. However the chemistry and the sparks are there from the beginning and you know that once they come together it's going to be explosive!

It takes a talented story teller to give you a "full" story in just 40 pages and Heather Long does just that. The character's were fully realized and very believable with a story that I had no problem falling into and wishing for more pages.

If you are a fan of hot Marines I would suggest the entire Always a Marine series there is something for everyone in these spicy stories of love.

For those who have read Hot Head, it is clearly established that Damon Suede can grip a reader with a great story. In fact, it would be safe to say that readers of his contemporary M/M romances are rabid fans who want more of that exact style. Horn Gate is not Hot Head. Period. End Stop. Does this mean do not read? Absolutely not. This clever novella ensnares the reader with its well crafted web of sex demons and fantastic Jewish occult lore.

There were moments of this book that felt almost Dorian Gray - with the lowly protagonist getting his greatest birthday wish and falling head over heels for the angel-demon. The writing belongs in the superb category and almost felt incongruous in an erotic urban fantasy type piece. On second thought, actually it didn't - it took a great story and vaulted it into an excellent category. Full of wry wit and erudition, Horn Gate is the thinking person's sexy story. Isaac and Scratch are the paranormal equivalent of Mutt and Jeff but they work in a compelling way.

Personally, this reviewer is looking forward to the next installment in this erotic fantastical series. Damon Suede earned his spot on my auto-buy list!

Hello everyone and welcome to a wonderful week of review. This past few weeks I took some time to go through my big pile of will read when I get a chance books and pick out some authors that I haven’t read before. I have been holding on to these two books for quite a while. You know what I’m talking about. I have tendency to buy a bunch of books at a time and then forget that I haven’t downloaded them into my IPAD or I download them but then get sidetracked (OK so anyone that knows me knows I can wonder more than a little bit) so the pile is rather large. So here is an author I have heard great things about, Mary Calmes! OK – I pick you to read!!!

If you love to read gay romance then chances are you have read these two books. I loved them so much that I actually went back and read them again just to see what I missed the first time and the second read was just as good. Mary’s description of the ranch, our two main character, and even all the secondary character is AMAZING! You actually see the story while you’re reading it and to me there is no higher praise then that. Here are two perfect men – both gorgeous – women falling all over them and on the outside everyone thinks they have all the answers to solve everyone’s problems. But… when you start reading you realize that they are just like everyone else. They have fears and insecurities and remorse of lost chances because in life you don’t get to go back in time and have do-overs. Timing is everything. You know that Rand and Stef make it but like all couples they still have to work through stuff. Don’t worry the books are anything boring or sad in fact their arguing will make you laugh. Stef has a way of wanting to save the world or at least everyone that he meets and Rand is your stay at home realist. Their personalities don’t change as the books evolve.

We all have books that are our comfort books. The ones you don’t delete and you go back to read again and again when you need a pick me up or you just want to relax and smile. This is that type of a book! My only complaint is that I wanted a book three. By the end of the second book our two men finally settle down and Rand is planning for kids. I WANT THE WEDDING AND THE KIDS PLEASSSEEEE. Oh please Mary give it to me. I feel so incomplete without it. These two books are worthy of 5 chocolate dipped strawberries. If you haven’t read them yet then you are missing out! Her writing is amazing. Great plot – meaningful intimacy – happy ever after. A keeper!

Good LORD! Y’all know that I’m a huge TJ Klune fan and this book did everything to make me more of a fan. I grew up in a deeply religious household and still hold on to a lot of those values. There is a line somewhere in the Bible (forgive me for being a terrible Preachers Kid and not knowing where off the top of my head) that says that we “entertain Angels unaware”… Never has that been more true than with Benji. He’s floating through life after his father’s death, barely able to live day to day, yet something keeps him going. Once that “something” appears in his life, everything changes. I’m not going to ruin the book by telling you everything, but suffice it to say that you NEED TO READ THIS BOOK. It brought into stark relief for me my own relationship with God and what and who I believe in. I’m thankful for those small reminders TJ, truly. “Into This River I Drown” will rock you to the core of your beliefs and make you think, but it also will do what TJ does so well and that is make you FEEL! 4.5 ooey gooey strawberries dipped in chocolate for TJ Klune and “Into This River I Drown” and a job VERY well done Sir.

Small Footnote: I get to visit the real “Roseland” this summer in Oregon. So cool!

Any one thing would be enough to separate them permanently… unless they both decide to hang on for the wild ride.

Andrew, Andrew how I love thee.... I adored this book and as usual I'm the backward blogger loving stuff for all the ODD reasons. I loved Dante and Ryan's relationship journey. I can totally connect with Dante feeling like he needs to be strong and take care of things himself and I can relate to Ryan needing to be in control. I've been told a time or two that I MIGHT be a control freak but those people don't know what they are talking about and they are probably talking out of turn anyways. But what got me loving this book was Dante's relationship with his Gramps Hy. I think Hy is the star of the show. He has to talk some sense into those two boneheads so they don't mess up the best thing that has ever happened to both of them. Most parent don't know their own children as well as Hy knows Dante. He puts the pieces together and can see the chemistry between Dante and Ryan. Hy also has a heart of gold. It takes a selfless man to put his own needs/wants aside and do what he thinks is right to take the burden off of others. Ryan also gets a gold star for stepping in and caring for Hy in his later days. This story also reminds me that maybe I need to visit more rodeo events. Never know what I might find:) I can trade my Nine West boots in on a pair of cowboy ones!

Matt and Shane both have secrets. Matt never believed he was anything but straight, yet he’s increasingly attracted to his best friend. Shane is comfortable with being gay, but when he discovers he’s part werewolf, he hides that part of himself, fearing Matt’s reaction. Suffocated by his uptight parents and conservative hometown, Shane begs Matt to run away with him.

But starting over doesn’t help. Matt still denies his desires, and Shane abuses alcohol to dampen his wolfish urges. When Matt breaks down and kisses Shane, the pent-up passion proves too much for Shane’s self-control, and his wolf gets free. Horrified, Shane flees—into deeper trouble. Before they can hope to accept each other, Shane and Matt must accept themselves.

REVIEW:
I knew as soon as I saw the cover for this book that I had to read it. I just didn't know it was going to break my heart. I don't know that I have read a character that needed to be loved like Shane did.

Shane is adopted and has never really felt a part of anything...and this was before he told his parents he was gay. Moving to a small town and refusing to hide his sexuality didn't help his feeling of loneliness, until he meets Matt.

Matt is one of the good guys and his friendship with Shane means everything to both boys. Matt is as far in the closet as Shane is out but that doesn't diminish the bond that the two share.

When Shane shifts in the middle of an argument with his parents and realizes that they never told him he might be a shifter he decides to leave but he knows he can't make it without Matt. When Matt agrees to leave Shane is sure that Matt is finally ready to admit he has feelings for him. When that doesn't happen things start to spiral out of control for Shane.

The self destructive actions that Shane takes to try and not only numb that pain of rejection but to also try and control his wolf are intense. While both boys are struggling with accepting their identities Shane's actions are much more damaging.

This book may be a paranormal but the feelings of self loathing and denial not to mention the addictive personality traits are very real. Shane could be any teen today struggling, looking for approval and love.

This is an emotionally intense story about self acceptance.

If you read our feature for Valentine's Day featuring our all time favorite love stories then you'll know that my favorite story is from the Hot Shot Series by Bella Andre. I thought it would be next to impossible for her to top that story but she has yet again surprised me with her clever, fresh story that rounds out the first eight siblings featured in her Sullivan series.

In this installment it is Lori's turn - aka Naughty. She has made many teaser appearances throughout the series letting us know that she has a boyfriend and it hasn't always been a great relationship, certainly one that her brothers would not approve of and one that her twin is urging her to end before the brothers find out about it. The story opens with her having done just that, but in true Lori fashion she doesn't do anything by halves. In finding out that her boyfriend is cheating on her and has used her to grow his own career, she walks away from it all - him, her career, her identity, her very life. She flies home but instead of going home she rents a car at the airport and asks the attendant where she should go. When the attendant smiles and says that her favorite getaway is Pescadero, CA Lori sets off not caring about anything but getting away and starting over without having to face her family. She can't face her old life, as it feels as if her ex has tainted it and taken all the joy she felt from being a dancer. Unsure what to do with herself since dancing is all she has ever done and ever wanted to do she is beyond lost. Completely unaware, due to her state of mind, that she is still wearing her stage costume she arrives in the quiet rural farming town. Stoping for a snack at the general store, she finds a ad for a farm hand and thinks....why not - could be fun.

Grayson has fled to this part of California and become a farmer because it was as far away from his previous New York executive life as he could get. After his marriage to his college sweetheart turned bitter and ended tragically with her dying in a car crash, he has not been able to get over the guilt that he feels in allowing things to get that bad. Fleeing town, buying a ranch and working non-stop to turn it into a fresh start has been his focus for three years. He has worked tirelessly to shut out the world and close down his heart so he doesn't have to think beyond what needs to be done now. Until - Lori shows up in her stage outfit telling him she wants to be his new Farm Hand.

From the moment they meet they both feel the chemistry but neither of them want it. Lori wants a job. Grayson needs help but doesn't think she is capable. Simple. But Lori has never allowed herself to fail or take no for an answer - ever. So when he tells her to prove it she sets out in 4 inch dancing heels and spandex to try to round up the chickens. Once successful - he challenges her again - and once again in her revealing outfit she sets out and does a perfect job cleaning the house. The only problem is now that she has earned the job there isn't anywhere for her to stay in the small town other then in his house! And so their journey begins.

They both have a ton of healing and emotions to work through. The farm proves to be a playground for Lori. Having loved as a child to garden and play in the mud, she surprises Grayson by not shying away from the pigs, chickens, weeding, etc. And then further surprises him by standing up to him and not letting his gruff, cold personality push her away. Her constant push backs begin to break down his walls as nothing else could and eventually they begin to heal each other and the chemistry that was there from the first moment they saw each other starts to become to much to continue to ignore.

There is simply nothing sexier then a dancing, horseback riding cowboy. As they continue to be thrust together in magical scenes - him whisking her away on horseback as a storm rolls in leaving them soaked and feeling the adrenaline rush of being chased by lighting; his tender, strong arms around her as he spins her around in a perfect waltz at a barn dance giving her back her passion for dancing - they both come to realize that what they have is not a fleeting case of lust and they gingerly let the dance become more.

This story is...wow! Lori is strong and amazing. She has been kicked down in every possible way at the start of the story but instead of feeling sorry for herself she picks a new path and could care less if it makes sense or how difficult it might be. She embraces the challenge and finds the fun in even the must yucky of tasks....to the point where she makes cleaning up a pig pen sound like a fun way to spend the day. Grayson - well he is ornery. But that is what makes him so charming. As a man of few words, when he does speak it is honest and when he speaks from the heart there is no doubting that he means it. Their journey is one of true ever lasting love built on a rock solid foundation of mutual respect and admiration. The scenery of the ranch adds a magical background - from the rolling farm land to the crashing waves of the beach - they are surrounded by energy and magic. Add to that the farm animals that become Lori's friends, of sorts, and the story becomes a well rounded tale of family and love. This is a must read. This could stand alone but I would recommend reading the whole series.

I love how all these Lords feel they are above having feelings for a women. They are all tough and think they if they say they can't fall in love then it is so. I can understand how they want to keep their distance for fear of hurting others physically and mentally but they should see from other Lords experience that that is not always the case, but in this case Sabin does house the demon on doubt so I'll cut him some slack. I found it interesting that Gwen being a Harpy that she didn't like to fight. If I was a Harpy I'd have a ready made hit list and I would take requests!

Humpday Hello to Liz Everly!

Greetings and salutations my fellow Humpday folks. Halfway there - wet week here on the East Coast! With our scrambled seasons we have blizzards in March and April showers in May - gotta love "climate change"! Harumph. On the bright side, my garden is in, the seeds are sprouting and as soon as the lawn mower fairy brings me a socket wrench to change the spark plug in my hand-me-down mower, my neighbors will no longer abhor me! (Doesn't that sound macho, me, using a socket wrench???? Ha!) Anyway, I worked all weekend and (shhhh, don't tell the boss) caught up on lots of great reads on audio book so my TBR pile is slowing getting whittled down for about five minutes. One of the latest catches is from a local author who we chanced upon at the Virginia Festival of the Book! Stay tuned dear readers for a curious culinary sexcapade.....but first, a treat of the calorie free eye candy variety. Yummmmmmm!

There are some combinations that just seem to match perfectly: peanut butter and chocolate, Proseco and Thai curry, Matthew McConaughey and no shirt, you get the picture. Liz Everly manages to find another great combination - food writer and photographer - two foodies, sexual chemistry and a murder mystery! Saffron Nights takes the reader on an edgy sensual tour across the world and, like all great meals leaves a lingering taste for just a little something more.

Jackson and Maeve have that classic moment in their work relationship where they dare to surmise what would happen if it evolved. Maeve, interestingly enough, happens to be the more cautious of the two when it comes to considering romance. An extraordinarily passionate woman, she savors everything that dazzles the senses. For her sex is about gratification but relationships don't go beyond skin to skin contact. Jackson, with his playboy reputation, hides behind his camera lens and prefers to keep it between the sheets as well. With such similar approaches, one would wonder why it takes so long for them to tumble into bed.

Aside from the overt sensuality of their aphrodisiac food research and the moments of sexually charged tension between Jackson and Maeve, the storyline of Saffron Nights is complex and richly written. The characters are extremely complicated, introverts that live in their heads much of the time, at times frustrating for their sheer inability to communicate their needs, concerns and fears. The mystery involving the murder of Chef woven into the story which reads like part travelogue, part food history, part romance, teases the reader with dark delight. As the characters globe trot in search for spices and ingredients that titillate the palate and passions those who indulge, Saffron Nights commands constant attention lest the reader miss one of the tantalizing details.

Highly enjoyable, definitely more erotic than your average cookbook, Saffron Nights rates a decadent FOUR Chocolate-Dipped Strawberries!

YAY FOR NEW TO ME AUTHORS!!!

For the last week I have been reading books by authors that I had not read before. They were names and books that I keep seeing in different places I just hadn't pulled the trigger yet. And while the writing styles were very different they both captivated and entertained me.

So this book was one that was a freebie celebrating the six year anniversary of Dreamspinner Press. Which is seriously one of my favorite publishing houses, because they have some of the best authors and editors.

I started this book last night and was awake way past my bedtime because I just could not put it down. The meeting between Jonah and Zev as toddler and pup had to be one of the sweetest beginnings I have ever read. Their courtship, which neither realized was happening, was endearing and drew me into the the story so quickly I couldn't believe how quickly I cared about these two people.

I always know it's a good book when I find myself talking to the characters. I was so frustrated with what the separation was doing to both Zev and Jonah that I was yelling, "Just tell him already" a couple of different times.

A very unique premise and a story that was wonderful and sexy to read.

The other author that I read this past week was Anne Tenino. I read the first two books in the TAG Series, Frat Boy and Toppy and Love, Hypothetically and pre-purchased the third Sweet Young Thang. But I am going to review the Whitetail Rock/Romancelandia series. I love her snarky men! These books are from Riptide Publishing and they have very quickly moved onto the "My Favorite Publishers" list.

After reading the first two books in this series I knew I had read more. I just had to read about Sam finally finding his true love. I am pretty sure that I am Sam...except for the tall, skinny, gay man thing I am EXACTLY like him. LOL Ok maybe the only thing we have in common is being die hard romantics. That and the whole inner dialog/soundtrack to our lives thing.

Sam has made some bad choices in the romance department in the past, and he knows that Ian is too good for him. The man is just too good looking to want to be with someone like him.

Ian has been trying to play straight to please his father but he knows he is attracted to men....big, manly men not tall, skinny kids who are several years younger then him. So why can't he stop thinking about Sam?

The chemistry between these two was there from the beginning and as much as both tried to deny it they were hooked from the start. Who doesn't love a man that will make your Highlander fantasies come true. Of course Ian had to have his stupid moments and Sam had to have his over-reacting moments but those are what made the story seem real and gave it personality.

The secondary characters in this book help flesh out the story and give it more depth. I hated reading the bashing scene but now I can't wait to read Miller's story because that man needs someone to love him. It was great to see Nik and Jurgen again and I can't wait to see what Anne has in store for Dalton and Tierney. Hopefully with this many men needing stories this series will be around for a while!

Yippie Skippie it's new Molly Harper!

Nothing gets my day perked up like Molly Harper with Amanda Ronconi narrating! And thank you, thank you, she has finally released a new book and it is available on audible! There is simply nothing better then her brand of humor to brighten up the worst day. This time she expands on the subtle jokes that she makes about her home state of Kentucky in her main, Half Moon Hollow - Jane Jameson (Vampire), series. After multiple books where she casually pokes fun at some the attractions and strange people featured on many shows that we run into regularly on cable - Lizard Lick Towing and the Turtle Man - Live Action - are two that come to mind - it is fun to hear her take on what can be found in Kentucky.

MY BLUEGRASS BABY (BOOK 1): Sadie Hutchins loves her job at the Kentucky Tourism Commission. She loves finding the unusual sites, hidden gems, and just-plain-odd tourist attractions of her home state. She’s a shoo-in for the director’s job when her boss retires at the end of the year…until hotshot Josh Vaughn shows up to challenge her for the position. Josh is all sophisticated polish while Sadie’s country comfort, and the two have very different ideas of what makes a good campaign. So when their boss pits them against each other in a winner-takes-all contest, they’re both willing to fight dirty if it means getting what they want. But it turns out, what Josh and Sadie want could be each other—and Josh’s kisses are the best Kentucky attraction Sadie’s found yet!

This book is really cute. Sadie LOVES her state and thinks the more unusual the attraction the better it represents what Kentucky is all about. Josh is the total opposite, feeling that Sadie is out to make Kentucky look like a state full of freaks. As they clash it becomes increasingly obvious that the real problem is the building sexual tension between them, to the point where the office staff starts placing bets on when "Secret Naked Fun Time" is going to commence. But as they are forced to recognize the chemistry they have between them they also must recognize that they are competing for the same job - and they can't have both - or can they?

This is a really great read. I won't say it is my favorite of hers but still - it was cute and well done. It was a nice contemporary read if you aren't into the paranormal and want a light hearted, fun tale. Happy Reading!

It's May it's May! Finally! I could have been in the tanning bed Wednesday but believe it or not I didn't go because the weather has been cold here. Last week was terrible but this week was a little better. My kids are ready for school to be over and so am I. I hate to let it show but I'm over all this lunch packing and homework stuff. My job is starting NEW summer hours so I'm anxious to see how this works out for me. Again this week I read a book recommended to me by my daughter. I realized last evening driving home from TKD as she was talking to me about how she is hooking her friends up with books to read that she is the Tyra of her group aka The Book Pimp. LOL

When I read these books I realize that my day isn't nearly as bad as Percy's and being a regular teenager can be a challenge on a good day. Again I so enjoyed this book and am looking forward to the movie this summer. I always enjoy a young adult book that teaches the moral to never give. This series also has something that my most favorite series ever (Harry!) has.... the bond between best friends:)

Humpday hello to Stacey Kennedy!

Greetings and salutations my humpday posse! I hope your May Day was spent enjoying the sunshine and spring flowers - I was trapped in the infernal hell of my dreary office (not really, I have an amazing view of the Massanutten peak and a pretty fountain soon be filled with baby ducklings) and nearly forgot to go out and smell the flowers! Lilacs are blooming in my yard - gorgeous, simply gorgeous. Now if that Lawn-Mower fairy would deliver my mower and gas can, I can teach the prodigal son to do something other than the Xbox! At any rate, I am very thankful I have had some good reads this week since I work the weekend (and that is never, ever any fun!). Next up is a sort-of new to me author - Stacey Kennedy. Now I knew Ms. Kennedy could write erotic romance but paranormal? You betcha! Let us now pause for some appreciation of the kilty kind.....inspired by this story, eye candy is everyone's favorite calorie free treat!

Kyden can't decide if Nexi wants to get herself killed or if she just has no clue what she's doing. But her father made it clear: keep Nexi safe...or else. Of course, the more Nexi runs toward revenge, the more she needs Kyden's aid, and as she grows into her power and confidence, so does his desire to protect her. The only problem? She'd rather he dropped dead.

But when a vampire paints a bull's-eye on Nexi's back, she's hard-pressed to deny Kyden and the help he's offering. Even if it means getting her revenge will be a little bit harder. At least it will still be as sweet.

Stacey Kennedy write erotic romance like nobody's business - all the juicy-alpha-male-and-flawed-female-who-verbally-spar-and-sensually-war-their-way-into-love a reader can handle! But honestly, I was surprised to find she wrote paranormal romance as well. The series, Magic and Mayhem, was an instant hook - who doesn't love the premise of sassy humans entering the world of magical creatures and the wackiness that will inevitably ensue? Interested? But wait, there's more!

Werewolves Be Damned brings the reader smack dab into the Otherworld with Nexi's brutal witnessing of her parents murder. No need to pussyfoot about with backstory, just jump in with two feet. And it works beautifully. As self professed first book in a series hater, this proved to be one of those rare gems that has that magical blend of creative storyline, snarky dialogue and perfect pace. The writing style is bold, casual and quirky at times but the characters grab you from the outset and the reader becomes immersed and invested in the story immediately.

Kayden makes for one delish alpha hero - he knows how to push and when to back off! Oh, and did I mention the leather kilt he sports as a uniform....shirtless....all the time? Nexi just plain rocks - yes, she is clueless at first, not really a human but having no idea she's half witch, half Guardian. She self doubts and struggles with her training, but she ends up amazingly self aware and her learning process shows she is no wilting flower. I am sure her leather kilt is cool too, but I am still imagining Kayden's. The secondary characters are every bit as interesting and Kennedy develops enough depth in them that the reader will want every one of their tales as well. Witches, Werewolves and Vampires...now that's Magic and Mayhem!

There's enough action and intrigue for those who prefer a grittier urban fantasy and plenty of sizzling chemistry in the bedroom/hallways/kitchens, etc for those who lean toward erotic romance. Throw in fangs, fur and a big sword and you have the base ingredients for this tasty treat! With a creative take on classic creatures, a solid storyline and great characters and dialogue, Werewolves Be Damned should definitely find a spot on your TBR list if you are a fan of paranormal romance.

One Perfect Night, Bella Andre

It's Monday and raining here - seems like the perfect ending to another rough weekend. There was one bright shining ray of light for me all weekend. I finally found an hour to jump back on the treadmill and read something from my "read me now" list. If you read my post two weeks ago I've been forced lately to mainly focus on Audible books due to lack of time for much else. On the audible note, I apologize for not posting last week on our book of the week. Lover at Last was three 8 hour books on Audible and just wasn't something I could get through by last monday. I will say it was a awesome book and if you are a fan of the series it is a must read with a bunch of development to the story lines. I did feel like I needed a history review several times and struggled to remember where the previous story had left off but all in all it was really, really good.

So back to my moment of bliss this weekend - I finally squeezed in a few moments to myself and of course my first choice to read was Bella Andre, specifically her stand alone One Perfect Night. It turns out that this is a bit of a spin off of her Sullivan Series. With the last of the main family of eight all getting their happily ever after's officially with her most recent release, Always on my Mind, it appears that she is expanding the series to include their extended family. In this story a Sullivan, I'm assuming a cousin of the eight from the original series, goes on a vacation with her best girl friends. One of her friends, Colbie, is not the experienced snow skier that the rest of the group is so she takes off down the less challenging trails and ends up falling hard when she tries to help a child that she mistakes for being in trouble. With her face covered in snow and red from embarrassment, she finds Mr. Tall, Dark and & Yummy stoping to help her up. Noah has spent most of his childhood on the slopes and eventually teaching others to ski. Although this day is meant to be a break from his demanding career he can't think of a better way to spend the day then to help Colbie learn to ski. With each fall she takes and with each time they touch as he helps her up they both realize that they are having more fun then they have ever had with anyone else. Colbie started the day out as a exercise in not giving up and challenging herself and in the end found herself having the best day of her life. But as the day winds down she can't bring herself to allow things to continue into the evening. She is here for the weekend to spend time with her girl friends and to lick her recent scars from a broken relationship. Unwilling to continue to push her luck she ends things with a simple thank you to Noah for a fabulous day and skis away without even telling him her last name. But as time goes by she realizes her mistake - even after a week has passed Noah is all she can think about. Noah is in just as bad of shape and eventually breaks down and hires a PI to find her. Ironically his best friend and PI is the brother of Colbie's best friend and the siblings quickly put two and two together. Now that they are brought back together they have the chance to turn One Perfect Day into One Perfect Night - if they both have the courage to believe in love at first sight and trust their feelings.

I don't want to give any more away. This is a very short story. As I said I knocked it out in a hour. But wow! It was awesome and just the pick me up I needed. You definitely don't need to have read any of the other books as this really stands alone without the back up. If you haven't tried Bella Andre before this would be a nice book to see if you like her style. If you have read the Sullivan series I would recommend going ahead and reading this one since it introduces several characters that should be making repeat performances as the series grows. All in all this is fun little short story with charming characters that are believable and make your day better for knowing their story.

At the dentist office is not where I want to spend this Friday but you gotta do what you gotta do and afterwards I can go enjoy the rest of my day as soon as I stop crying. It was one of those weeks that I care not to repeat but a beautiful full rainbow on Wednesday reminded me that life is good and when life gives you lemons pull out your bottle of raspberry vodka and make lemonade. Also on the list of things that are good check out this weeks read....

I'm going to have to agree with Tyra. There was so many things going on in this book. I had to think hard to remember what had happened with that story line in the previous books. But I got there and so much happens. As always there are my favorite story lines and ones I just want to read thru quickly so I can get back to my favorites. There are some big changes heading the Brother's way and I can't wait to see how the "updated" Laws changes affect things as well as the additions to the house and where our new little friends the Bastards come into play. There are many more books to come :)

Banks, in her traditional ways, created two amazingly strong individuals. Bowen is loyal to his family/ clan and has an intense sense of honor - perfect for Genevieve. She finds hope in Bowen despite accepting her fate to be less than she wanted for her life. Still, they are characters of their time. Banks does well in keeping to the period culture in creating characters who hold the passion of the Highlands in their essence. But then she exposes their souls which are no different than the souls of those living in this time current time period. Banks shows through the love stories that romance and love -people at their very cores- are equal regardless of the time period. As usual, Banks provides an evocative love story that in the end makes the reader smile.

REVIEW
There are certain books in long running series that we are more excited for than others. We watch as the couple dances around each other the chemistry is palpable and the relationship sometimes volatile. Lover at Last was one of those books for me. Sometimes though we build it up so much in our minds that when it's not the EPIC story that we thought in our minds it should be we are disappointed. I have been let down by the Warden in the past so I was really trying not to over hype myself about this book. I have to say I was very happy, and while it wasn't everything I wanted it to be it was close.

There are soooo many story lines running through this book that you need a score card to keep track of everything. So I am going to give you a run down of the main stories and what I thought about each one.

The Old Laws
If ever a society needed some updating and revamping (pardon the pun) it would be this one. OMH they are so archaic, they make Rush Limbaugh look like a liberal! Saxton is going to make BANK re-writing those laws.

Havers
I just wanted to punch him!

Wrath and Beth
Oh Lord the King and Queen are getting ready to have a throw down! Maybe kids was something they should have talked about before the whole carving your name in someone's back ceremony??

Assail
So other than Qhuay this was the storyline that was the most intriguing to me. I was fascinated by the back and forth between Assail and Sola, and talk about a cliffhanger!!!

Band of Bastards
Ok, so I am starting to like them a little bit. Throe I think is the most interesting and I really want to know more about his back story. Is he maybe related to one of the Brothers??? Xcor might have a chance at redemption after all, cause let's face it he had the perfect opportunity to place a smackdown on the Brotherhood when they were all at the meeting with the Council and he didn't take it.

Layla/Xcor - Selena/Trez
Yeah...these relationships jut have trouble written all over them!

Lessers
I was happy to see a new Fore-Lesser come into power. And talk about power I think this one might be a bit of a badass himself. I think the war with the Lessers got bumped up a notch when he took over, and it's about time.

Blay & Qhuinn
Just about the time I wanted to scream at how juvenile these two were behaving I had to stop and remind myself that even after everything they have been through they are basically just out of puberty. And boy was it obvious SEVERAL times! I was annoyed with the way both of them treat Saxton and I really hope that he finds some loving soon. As far as the sex in this book, I only have one thing to say....LUBE. LOL I was glad that she didn't completely G rate the scenes but some stretching and some lube would have made it more realistic. I mean come on even straight people have anal sex and they need to be stretched and use some lube too.

BABIES
I am so excited at the thought of more babies in the mansion. I love to see these badass fighters get taken to their knees by the little cooing. I also have a feeling that Payne is going to have to reconcile somewhat with her mother to help with the pregnancies that I think are coming.

Overall I enjoyed the book and think that the Warden has set up the storyline for a LOT more books. I for one am looking forward to the next book The King! These are my thoughts, I would love to hear what you thought so leave a comment.

Oh Friday! I thought you were never coming back again. I missed you! It's been a fairly quiet week. Just the usual 2 or 3 sports practices each day. And a few more days closer to summer and tanning season. A sweet surprise mid week made my struggles disappear for awhile:) If your looking for something sweet might I suggest the following book.......

I'll admit I was hesitant. Would I like this book as much as I do my beloved Chase brothers??? The answer.... YES!!! I don't know what it is about Lauren Dane that makes me love her work but keep it up! I think it may have alot to do with the fact that it's believable. I live in a small town (sadly no one in my town looks like these men) and it's just good ol' fashion romance. No shifters or paranormal stuff going on just friends and family living life. I have to give Beth credit she has way more nerve than me. I could never be that straight forward when there is someone I would be interested in going out with. I stopped several times while reading and thought to myself, hey I can do that. Then reality sets in and I realize I lack the nerve and people skills to do or say those things LOL. In the meantime I will sit back and continue reading and waiting for the perfect man that knows to order extra dessert:)

Pup #Review

Oh, to have a pup like Micah... oh, to have a master like Tackett. These men are perfect - you know, for each other. And for readers. But hey, when doesn't Peterson develop the perfect characters?

Micah “Pup” Slayde knows he wants Tackett Austin the moment he lays eyes on him in the Guards of Folsom. Micah wants to have purpose, to be taken care of, and to take care of his Dom—wants to trust him completely, live for him, belong to him. To become his everything. Micah is sure Tackett is the one. The problem is, in order to be the perfect sub, he needs to stay focused, and that’s not easy for Micah, who suffers from what he refers to as a “broken brain.” Focus and adult attention deficit disorder rarely coexist.

Ever since Ty Callahan and Blake Henderson’s collaring ceremony, Tackett’s been thinking too much about his own loneliness. This is the first official book in the Guards of Folsom series, even though readers heard about it in Ty's story, Riveted. Each book is going to focus on a different kink and a different coupling. But this couple -Micah and Tackett- seemed made for one another. Micah knew it from the start and as a sub, it was a bit awkward to bring Tackett around. Thank goodness for friends because it was Tackett's friends who bring him around.

I enjoyed the inclusion of all the secondary characters. Peterson has a way of building a family in her series that makes readers feel a connection. Regardless of the kink -though damn, does she write those sex scenes good- the stories of her men are engaging. I know when I pick up a book written by Peterson, it will be a story to savor.

Pup is an endearing story of two men forging their HEA. Micah sees in Tackett what he needs to overcome his ADD and Tackett proves himself the man for the job. The work they do to find balance is beautiful. Every scene has a clear purpose. The time and commitment Tackett puts into finding what works for Micah shows how well their connection serves both of them. Their pull towards one another is too great to deny and readers feel the compulsion. This was such a sexy and beautiful love story.

Pup by SJD Peterson

REVIEW:
Okay, so by this point I have read what I thought was a pretty good sampling of BDSM books, but I have to thank Ms. Peterson for once again broadening my horizons. There were a couple of things mentioned in this book that I had to look up to see what she was talking about...and then had to immediately delete my browsing history. LOL

I fell in love with Micah (Pup) right away because of his flirtatious, naughty ways. I liked his smartass mouth and his stubborn determination to get the man he wanted no matter what. But his vulnerability and self doubt are what won him a place in my heart.

Tackett tried so hard to come off as the badass, hard-core Dom, and for the most part he was, but the fact that he didn't have a problem asking for help understanding Micah scored him big time points with me. Tackett's struggle with self doubt made him question if he could give Micah what he needed and that was a new and interesting twist to the D/s books I have read in the past. Of course there were several very un-Dom like situations in this book that I enjoyed immensely.

The relationship that develops between the two is not an easy one. Micah struggles with his inability to stay focused and Tackett has a hard time coming up with ways to correct the behavior and still give Micah the stability he craves. This book really delves into not joust the physical aspect of submission but the psychological. The trust that Tackett works to build with Micah is fragile but is also the foundation for their future.

This is a well written intense story whose characters will stay with you long after you finish the book. If you like BDSM and seeing strong men fall in love then Pup needs to be added to your library. I am excited to see where this series goes next...will Bobby and Rig find their perfect third or we will meet a new Dom and sub? All I know is that where ever Jo takes us I am so going to be there!

Twice Tempted, Jeaniene Frost

It's monday and wow am I struggling to get going. But this book is so worth finding the energy to tell you about! If you caught our TBR week last week then you know that a bunch of us have this book on our TBR list. I snagged it from audible and once again really enjoyed the narrator that she has for this series. Enough said - let's get to the book.

Twice Tempted is the second in the Night Prince spin off series, of the Night Huntress series, by Jeaniene Frost. If you haven't read this series, the main character is none other than the infamous Dracula, otherwise known as Vlad Tepesh. He was first introduced in the Cat and Bones (Night Huntress) series and is a dear friend of Cat and a constant thorn in Bones' side. This relationship makes his character in the main series really interesting. He has a dry sense of humor and always seems to show up at just the right time to help Cat out and drive Bones crazy. So when this series was announced we all were very, very excited. I say all of that because if you go back and read my review on book one I was a bit let down. The other spins off books that she has done on the secondary males from the Cat and Bones stories have been stand-alone happily ever after tales - my favorite style. For Vlad, she chose to not have it wrap up in just one book but to be a full series. Which translates to mean that they most certainly do not get their happily ever after in book one. Which was beyond frustrating. In book one, his character was not the man we had grown to love in the main series and was instead a medieval dictator type. Don't get me wrong - book one is worth the read it just wasn't the quick closure I had expected or the dry, sarcastic hero that I had come to love from the main series. Given how much we all loved him in the main series and how it was his presence alone that made some of the main series books great (and book 4 tolerable) I decided to trudge on to book 2. And I am so glad I did!

The second book follows Ms. Frost's same story line development that she followed in the main series, having the characters eventually reach a impasse and break up. Frustrating and not original. BUT - in this case it finally helps bring a better explanation to what makes Vlad who he is and how the vampire society works. She tried in Book 4 of the Night Huntress series to describe the feudal society that vampires function under but for me it didn't come across so much as a explanation but instead as Bone's being a overbearing jerk. In this case, she does a much better job explaining how much the society they live in defines them. After thousands of years living in a feudal society, combined with the medieval world he existed in prior to becoming a vampire, Vlad has become what most would see as a monster and it is imperative that he continues to maintain that appearance. It is this need to maintain control of every aspect of his life that prevents Vlad from giving himself over fully to her. And when his distance becomes too much to take and she leaves him, it is this same need to have full unquestioned authority over everything that prevents him from asking her to stay. It isn't until word gets back to him that the carnival she works at has been attacked and she is presumed dead that he realizes the extent of his mistakes and failures.

Leila's character simply rocks in this book. She is completely devoted to Vlad but instead of allowing him to continue to push her away and just sit by, waiting for him to come around, she dusts herself off and moves on. She is strong and true to herself. Vlad's second in command and best friend was charged with the task of seeing her back home. So when her tour travel trailer is attacked he is still close and comes to her rescue. We she discovers that nothing remains of her trailer, including her beloved best friend, Leila sets out to find who is behind the attack and his murder. Fearing that Vlad may be trying to eliminate her to seek revenge for her dismissal, he tags along to protect her and help her find out who is behind the attacks. The trailer fire freed Leila's gifts that had been suppressed at the end of book one and it is through this return of her gifts that she accidentally contacts Vlad in her sleep and they begin to find their way back to each other. They have a long road to make it through - working to finally understand each other, find out who is behind the attacks, and where their future lies. But unlike Book 4 of the Night Huntress Series, it is clear that Vlad is not playing games with her head. He is fighting to find a way to make it work and is just as reluctant to get hurt emotionally as she is. He is finally the Vlad we all fell in love with in the main series. And all the strange behavior by his character for a book and a half finally make sense. This book makes the journey so worth the ride! Again - I did the audible version and really enjoyed it. There will definitely be a third book in this series, as the ending is yet another cliff hanger. But, thankfully, she is going to have a fresh plot based on his enemies and not rely on having them fight as something to write about.

It's finally warm!!! I've been enjoying this week like you wouldn't believe. Warm weather makes me a whole other person. I can't wait to be by the pool or on the deck with a good book and some snacks. Here is what I'm going to be reading...

My to be read list is not in any certain order (kinda like my life)

* Lords of the Under World by Gena Showalter. I'm in the middle of this series right now. Love'n them!

* Atlantis series also by Gena Showalter. Haven't started these yet. They are on my Kindle mocking me everytime I turn it on.

* Percy Jackson and the Olympians by Rick Riordan. I'm a couple books into this series now and they are super. This has been on my to be read list a couple of times but this is the last time you will see it because I'm going to finish them so my daughter will stop threating me.

*Dead Ever After by Charlain Harris. I don't want to talk about it.

* Twice Tempted by Jeaniene Frost. I adore her Cat and Bones series and if you've never read them then you need to put them at the top of your to be read list.

* My Big Fat Demon Slayer Wedding by Angie Fox. SQUEAL AND GIGGLE! I will drop everything when this books comes out!

* I am also going to be reading The Bane Chronicles by Cassandra Clare. These are short stories that will be coming out about one a month. They tie into The Infernal Devices and Mortal Instruments sereies. I highly recommend all of the above.

* Inferno by Sherrilyn Kenyon. Wanted to drop everything and start this but my friend Wes ruined it. I don't know how he lives with himself! See above book.

* Styxx by Sherrilyn Kenyon. Comes out September 3rd. I will drop everything to read this. Take that Wes!
