Whether or not you want to learn to play guitar for free, your vision probably involved learning songs form tabs as well as getting as much theory and technique exercises you can handle.

Ten years ago a guy named Jon Broderick went looking for websites featuring high quality guitar lessons and, the legend goes, he had so little success, he went and made his own. The outcome was Guitar Tricks, another site that gives you access to their lessons in return for a monthly subscription. Not unlike Jamplay, but Guitar Tricks has been collecting guitar lessons for ten years, plus they have a collection of twenty-four free guitar lessons that you can try. Your free lessons are of the same quality as the lessons you get with your monthly subscription, taught by the same teachers who conduct the lessons for subscribers to Guitar Tricks.

These days four-hundred thousand guitarists take advantage of Guitar Tricks' lessons each month. And no wonder, because there are lessons in any genre you could name - acoustic, rock, metal, country, classical, jazz . . . and you can take lessons in special areas like chords, sound effects, harmonics, bottleneck, popping and guitar tricks. If you are not clear on whether your favorite guitar style has a name, you can simply request lessons based on the music of particular guitar players like Chet Atkins, Duane Allman, Stanley Jordan, Andres Segovia or Jimmy Page.

Your membership of Guitar Tricks gets you full access to a buttload of tutorials, sheet music, video lessons and backing tracks. Not only do you get the benefit of the Guitar Tricks guys' years of archiving guitar lessons but their content is updated every day.

One resource for beginner guitar players I'm always recommending is the collective expertise that you can find in guitar forums. Guitar Tricks has a forum that holds the records of questions and answers between thousands of guitarists. Would you believe there's over two-hundred thousand posts? And not only that, you can also have feedback from the Guitar Tricks teachers on any nagging question your brain can formulate.

Free guitar lessons

There is wide range of guitar lessons to choose from these days. The highest quality lessons you can get are not from the local guitar teacher who charges an hourly rate but the guitar courses on the internet. There are even free lessons on how to play the guitar. The free lessons usually have one or two videos but sites like YouTube have many high quality clips showing excellent guitar players teaching various aspects of playing the guitar. Put these videos together with the free lessons on chords and scales, then you have all the info you need to start playing the guitar.

Ultimate Folk Guitar Song Collection

Ultimate Folk Guitar Song Collection
150 classic American folk songs with instruction on how to play folk guitar style. Plenty of music examples are presented showing sample licks as well as backup/rhythm slide work. Each section also examines techniques and solos in the style of the best slide guitarists, including Duane Allman, Dave Hole, Ry Cooder, Bonnie Raitt, Muddy Waters, Johnny Winter and Elmore James.
Grab the neck and hit the bottle!
"I've been a fan of slide guitar for a long time now - all styles from Son House and Elmore James to Ry Cooder and Bonnie Raitt. I'd managed to work out a few things myself but only basic stuff. Then I bought this book! It is the best guitar tutor I've ever come across. Right from the start it gets you playing decent sounding slide. It has just the right balance of theory and practical. It starts off with simple exercises based on D/E and G/A tunings that a complete beginner could cope with - but even these sound great. It then progresses to solo playing in various styles and complexities. These sound even better. The title emphasises the 'electric' aspect and admittedly it contains more 'lead'-style than 'acoustic accompaniment'-style but I play most of this on acoustic as well and it sounds just as good. I've bought 3 slide books and this is without exception the best. If you want to learn slide I can't believe you'd ever find a better book than this."
-- Sid from Oxford England, May 09, 2006
Electric Slide Guitar

Guitarra Flamenca paso a paso - I

Guitarra Flamenca paso a paso - I (DVD) (Flamenco Guitar Step by Step - Volume I)
Hosted by Oscar Herrero. It recognizes chords on audio files (MP3, WMA*, WAV and Audio CDs) or and presents them on a virtual guitar.
With iChords you will be able to see the chords of any song, without having to search for tablatures and sheet music. Experienced musicians can save time when transcribing "by ear" using iChords to make fast harmonic transcriptions.
iChords is very easy to use, after opening a song file the software automatically processes and extracts the chords!
iChords is based on D'Accord's unique audio processing technology. It provides the best results in terms of chord recognition. The software itself runs as a Windows Media Player plugin, offering a convenient interface for musicians and enthusiasts.
Beyond the chord transcription, iChords offers other essential features for its users:
- Ability to recognize chords from audio CDs, MP3, WMA and WAV files.
- Shows the chord that is been played at the moment and the next ones
- For each chord it presents the fingering, notation or intervals
- Users can control the tempo according to their skills, playing the song slower or faster
- Four different guitar view modes, including for left-handed and one that is equal to someone playing in front of the users.
- You can edit the song, add chords and lyrics in an easy and fun way;
- Export songs as videos files! This enables you to have the song, chords and lyrics everywhere in your iPod, MP4 player or mobile phone;
- View and Print your chords also on the keyboard mode;
- Choose the level of complexity and learn in the way that suits your skills: easy, normal and difficult chords!
- Works with DRM-enabled WMA files found in online music stores
With iChords Editor you can easily change the chords and add the lyrics to your song.
Dr. File Finder review about iChords for Tucows.com
"D'Accord iChords makes it really easy to transcribe chords. What's really cool is that it can tell you what chords are being played in the music you're listening to.
It eliminates the guess work if you want to learn a song quickly. In testing it out here I found D'Accord iChords to be very easy-to-use and intuitive. It's excellent tool for beginners and novice players as well.
I took MP3 files of several songs I didn't know how to play and let the software show me the chords. Geez, where was this software when I was playing in bands? ...
So, if you play guitar or know someone who does, this should be a gift you give them. Really nicely done. I recommend it." Dr. File Finder
Check out some testimonials about D'Accord and our products:
".. Absolutely amazing and very nice looking programs. Every music teacher and students as well should own a copy.."
Ricky | Denmark "I´m amazed with your software, it's incredible and works really well!"
Marcela Chediack | Argentina "..
