Now to my story about the guitar: before I slept last night I really stared at the pics of the Ibanez JS2400
I wanted this guitar so badly but I can't afford to buy it because it costs £2049.99 and a little cheaper in some sites...the fact is I still can't afford it. So i slept with it in my mind.

I woke up in the morning and I went straight ahead to the nearby music guitar store and saw this Ibanez JS2400 for sale at $399 so I rushed to the counter swiped my credit card and brought my new guitar at home. I reached home and was so excited to set it up with my amp and gadget but I was disturbed with a very loud ringing sound...it was my alarm clock, it was 5 in the morning and the saddest part is: It was all a DREAM!!!

Jazz harmony lesson

The 2, 5, 1 chord progression is the most important sequence in jazz as it is the smoothest possible transition into any key. Most jazz tunes are littered with these progressions. As a jazz guitarist you will need to have a thorough knowledge of this progression in all locations which in turn will give you a good visual reference for stressing strong sounds at major change points. Refer to fig 48 showing the two fretboard shapes of this 2, 5, 1 chord progression. By learning two seperate positions of this sequence it is possible to play the progression through all possible keys with ease. You will not be more than a few steps away from an economical fingering. Learn the basic shapes in both locations and then play through the exercise (fig 49) entitled: "2, 5, 1 All Keys".

Example lesson

This exercise is going to increase your ear facility a little further. The following charts represent different ways of playing the major scale on the fretboard. You need to get to know all possible string permutations if you are going to have a complete and fluent facility to play most anything you hear. This will probably make more sense when we come on to learning melodic patterns. So now we are looking at playing the major scale, linking different positions together. Once you understand the way the steps of the scale move when you are skipping strings in all locations you are well and truly on your way to developing a good aural facility. As you play through these exercises and get a good grasp of the idea, try to come up with your own permutations. The difficulty will always be when you need to skip across to a lower or higher string. Use your ears to tell you what the note should sound like and place your finger at the appropriate location. Use the charts to begin and then challenge yourself without them. Again, continue to sing as you play, recognizing the root notes as this will keep you aware of the key center .
