It’s yesterday’s Non-Guitar Dosage, today! Singer/Songwriter Scott Spark recorded this with Brisbane, Australia’s Robertson State School’s Cantabile Choir.

It’s safe to say, you’ll have a smile on your face and a slightly warmer heart when the video ends – the teacher’s face says it all. ‘Eat Your Heart Out’ – a beautiful song – is from Scott’s upcoming album ‘Fail Like You Mean It.’ The song is a free download (plus lyrics).

The answer: Yes.

It should be required by every Metalhead, headbanger, wearer of black shirts and devil’s horn flasher to watch two documentaries by Sam Dunn, the Canadian anthropologist and metalhead since 12 & Scot McFayden (follow them on Twitter). After his first doc ‘Metal: A Headbanger’s Journey’ got an enormous response from Metalheads around the world, Sam followed up with Global Metal.

Sam and Scot are not the type to rest. They’re living beyond their childhood fantasy and making docs on some of rock and metal’s greatest.

There never was, and there will never be another Ronnie James Dio or another like Ronnie James Dio. His contribution to rock music cannot be put into mere words. Ask anyone in rock music, new or veteran.

As a kid one of my favorite past times used to be practicing drawing the Dio logo on my notebooks. I’ve spent countless hours listening to his voice come out of the boom box via Sabbath and Rainbow albums. If you’d asked me who’s the one vocalist I admired in metal, it would be Dio. If you ask me now, the answer will be the same.

So, seeing him live last year in August was surreal on many levels. Not to mention standing inches away from him in the photo pit when I shot these. Seeing Heaven & Hell (Sabbath, Sabbath, Sabbath) live and getting to capture the band’s presence, for me, can’t be explained without seeming cheesy.

Am sad to hear he passed away. RIP Ronnie, we’ll miss you. I’ll miss you.

One of Clapton’s originals that is a pure beauty (thx to Bottletop for sending this). The first video is from 1996 at Hyde Park, and the second, at MSG, some 10+ years later (please let me know what year). It’s great to compare his approach to the same song, solo, etc. Yes, I’m aware of the Unplugged version but instead of that one, as a bonus, I’m throwing in the John Mayer/Brad Paisley version.

I say “The Third Man” and half of you will say “Orson Welles” and the other half “Zither.” The film’s music theme by Anton Karas is memorable and unmistakable. The story of “Man” director Carol Reed finding Karas at a wine garden in Vienna and then inviting him to score the movie is well known, at least, I think, to film buffs. May not be known that Karas accused Reed of keeping him “like a slave” during the 12-week, 14-hour days, scoring session. Bad Carol, bad!

What’s the history of Zither, homey and cousin of the guitar?

According to Wikipedia:
“The word “citara” is derived from the Greek word kithara, an instrument from classical times used in Ancient Greece and later throughout the Roman Empire and in the Arab world; the word “guitar” derives from “kithara” as well.”

Makes sense to do covers of ‘The Third Man” on the guitar. Even our favorite boy wonder, Sungha Jung, has done it too. There’s the Ska version. The Beatles messed with, er payed tribute to, it. The Band’s version is nice.

Zither-fied: Ekim Beau plays a 126 string Zither. Bradley Fish plays a 21-string Chinese Zither.
