Buttonhole Inspiration

Wedding etiquette states that the groom, the best man, ushers, fathers of the bride and groom should wear a buttonhole as well as other important members of the wedding party such as grandparents and paige boys.

The choice is endless when deciding what flowers to use for buttonholes:

Co-ordinating the flowers with the general theme of your wedding
Complementing the colours used in your wedding

That little band of precious metal has a big job to do. It seriously communicates to the world the wearer is married; as a piece of jewellery it has to be flattering and as the precious thing will hardly ever be removed, the ring has to be so comfortable you hardly notice it’s there.

Ring styles that are beautiful as ordinary jewellery may not suit a wedding ring. Very wide bands, for example, although striking and stylish can feel uncomfortable after a while and have to be removed to give the skin some air. These extreme styles may not be the best choice for ‘absolutely every day of your life’ wear.

Wedding Ring Lowdown

Metals

The stamp displays the quality of the gold: 9k, 10k, 14k, 18k or 24k which is the purest and softest; 14k or 18k don’t scratch as easily. White gold is an alloy of gold and white metals, rhodium plating makes the white gold appear whiter. It is reasonably hard, but does wear away eventually, a jeweller can re-rhodium plate annually. Platinum is the most prestigious and expensive metal, almost twice the price of gold, platinum is the hardest and most durable of them all and hardly needs any maintenance other than a clean every so often.

Timing

Allow enough time to order your rings, most are custom made and usually take around four to six weeks to complete. Order rings at least eight weeks prior to the wedding. If circumstances mean that rings are ordered at the last minute, ensure the manufacturer has loan rings, just in case the deadline is not met.

Sizing

It’s important that fingers are sized accurately by the jeweller. Take into consideration that fingers change, in warmer weather fingers will be slightly larger, weight loss or gain will affect finger size. The most common mistake is upsizing.

Making

Your jeweller should explain the methods of manufacture and the types of finishes and durability. Some finishes will last longer, choose a finish that will not easily wear off or show blemishes. Shop around, see what’s available so you are satisfied you have found the best.

"2. Determine what kind of wedding you are having. The volume, silhouette, proportions, amount of adornment, tailoring and other elements of the dress should have a lot to do with not only where you have your wedding, but what time of day it is being held and what the temperature is. "6. Makeup is another thing to think about. I'm not crazy about strong red lipstick with a white dress. If you never wear blue eyeshadow or purple eyeshadow or glitter, why wear it on your wedding day? You want to avoid any makeup that makes you look disguised or that makes you no longer look like yourself. That is huge. It should be the same with the hair. Sometimes stylists can get too elaborate with hair styles and colours. Wearing hair accessories and bobby pins are very much about editing."

"7. I have to say I prefer a shoe on the quieter side whether it is a fashion shoe (though it doesn't have to be) or something with a bit of a wedding feeling. I like a shoe with a tapered toe box. A little kitten heel is nice if you are marrying someone shorter than you, or a platform if you are marrying someone taller."

Aphrodisiac Valentine Day Dinner!

Valentines Day is here and you know you want to do something special but you're just not quite sure what!

We've put together some wonderful ideas for you to really strut your talents to your man.

Any meal you make should include a good dose of aphrodisiacs to help the evening along...

Entree - Goats Cheese and Fig SaladSalade Chevre Figue

Did you know that an open fig is thought to emulate the female sex organs and traditionally thought of as sexual stimulant. A man breaking open a fig and eating it in front of his lover is a powerful erotic act.

This entree takes approximately 15 minutes to prepare!

4 figs
4 cups mixed baby greens
4 ounces creamy goat cheese, or you could use feta cheese as well
8 walnuts chopped or 4 tablespoons of pine nuts
3 tablespoons olive oil
1 tablespoon balsamic vinegar (or champagne vinegar works well)
salt and pepper

Wash the figs. For an attractive presentation, cut the fig in fourwithout cutting through the stem, and allow the fruit to fan open.

Garnish four salad plates with the greens and the figs. Place oneounce of cheese alongside the fig, and sprinkle with walnuts.

Prepare a vinaigrette with the olive oil, walnut oil, vinegar andsalt and pepper. Pour on top and serve.

Mains - Crispy Barramundi with Basil & Lemon Sauce

Did you know that Basil is said to stimulate the sex drive and boost fertility. It is also said to produce a general sense of well being for body and mind.

The ground seeds of various plants in the brassica family were believed to increase virility. In the case of broccoli its more likely a myth created to get people to eat this bitter vegetable.

Another good reason to eat carrots--believed to be a stimulant to the male. The phallus shaped carrot has been associated with stimulation since ancient times and was used by early Middle Eastern royalty to aid seduction. High vitamins and beta-carotene.

Ingredients:

Barramundi fillets

Crumb Topping:

2 cups dried bread crumbs
¼ t old bay seasoning
¼ t garlic
¼ t onion powder
Pinch thyme leaves
The zest of ½ a lemon

Lemon Butter Basil Sauce:

2 cups butter
4 T fresh lemon juice
¼ cup white wine
Handful of minced fresh basil

Preparation

Brush fillets with extra virgin olive oil then coat them with crumb mixture.
Bake fillets at 375 degrees until they flake easily with a fork about 8 to 10 minutes.
Remove from the oven and drizzle lemon butter sauce over fish and serve immediately.

Salad - Rocket, Radish and Avocado Salad

Rocket seed has been documented as an aphrodisiac since the first century A.D. This ingredient was added to grated orchid bulbs and parsnips and also combined with pine nuts and pistachios. Arugula greens are frequently used in salads and pasta. Today we taken the rocket leaves and created a salad with nuts and avocado for that extra aphrodisiac oomph!

The Aztecs called the avocado tree "Ahuacuatl which translated means "testicle tree". The ancients thought the fruit hanging in pairs on the tree resembled the male's testicles. This is a delicious fruit with a sensuous texture.

Zinc is a key mineral necessary to maintain male potency and pine nuts are rich in zinc. Pine nuts have been used to stimulate the libido as far back as Medieval times.

Mustard is also believed to stimulate the sexual glands and increase desire!!

Ingredients:

1/3 cup caster sugar

2 tbsp water

1/2 cup walnuts

1 large avocado

3 tbsp lemon juice

100 g baby rocket

2 tbsp extra virgin olive oil

1/2 tsp Dijon mustard

6 radishes, washed and thinly sliced

Line a baking tray withfoil and lightly oil it. Place sugar into a non-stick frying pan with water.Stir over low heat to dissolve the sugar then increase the heat to medium andbring to the boil. Boil for 5-7 mins until mixture starts to become golden andsyrupy. Add walnuts (or exchange for Pine Nuts to add that bit "extra" to the evening!) and cook further 2-3 mins stirring often until the sugarmixture is caramel coloured, toffee-like and coats the walnuts/pine nuts. Turn out ontothe oiled foil and leave walnuts to cool.
Cut the avocado in halflengthways and remove the stone and skin. Cut into thick slices then intopieces. Toss with only 1 tbsp of the lemon juice. Combine rocket, avocado andradishes in a serving bowl.
Combine oil, mustard andremaining lemon juice and whisk until smooth. Drizzle over the salad and tossthoroughly to coat. Roughly chop the walnuts and sprinkle over the salad. Serveimmediately.

Dessert - Chocolate Tart with Coffee

Berries are the perfect foods for hand feeding your lover. "Both invite love and are described in erotic literature as fruit nipples" Both are high in vitamin C and make a sweet light dessert.

The Aztecs referred to chocolate "nourishment of the Gods". Chocolate contains chemicals thought to effect neurotransmitters in the brain and a related substance to caffeine called theobromine. Chocolate contains more antioxidant (cancer preventing enzymes) than does red wine. The secret for passion is to combine the two.

Caffeine is a well-know stimulant but remember, too much and it becomes a depressant. Serve small amounts of rich dark coffee in special little demitasse cups. Coffee stimulates both the body and the mind so partake of a little in preparation for an "all-nighter".

Ingredients

125g chilled butter
1 cup (150g) plain flour
1/3 cup (60g) icing sugar mixture
1/4 cup (30g) almond meal
1/4 cup (30g) cocoa powder
1 egg yolk
Raspberries, to serve
Thin cream, to serve
Chocolate custard filling
4 egg yolks
1 tbs custard powder
2 tbs caster sugar
200g dark chocolate, chopped
300ml thin cream
1 cup (250ml) milk

Method

Place the butter, flour, icing sugar, almond meal and cocoa powder in the bowl of a food processor and process until mixture resembles fine breadcrumbs. Add the egg yolk and process until mixture just comes together. Turn onto a lightly floured surface and gently knead until almost smooth. Shape into a disc. Cover with plastic wrap and place in the fridge for 30 minutes to rest.
Preheat oven to 200°C. Roll pastry on a lightly floured surface to a 4mm-thick disc. Line the base and side of a 23cm (base measurement) round, fluted tart tin with removable base. Use a sharp knife to trim the edges. Place in the fridge for 15 minutes to rest.
Place the tart tin on an oven tray. Line the pastry with baking paper and fill with rice or beans. Bake in preheated oven for 10 minutes. Remove the rice or beans and bake for a further 5 minutes or until pastry is just cooked through. Reduce oven temperature to 160°C.
Meanwhile, to make the filling, combine the yolks, custard powder and sugar in a saucepan. Add the chocolate, cream and milk and place over low heat. Cook, occasionally whisking with a balloon whisk, for 5 minutes or until chocolate melts and mixture is smooth. Remove from heat.
Pour the chocolate custard mixture into the pastry case. Bake in oven for 20 minutes or until custard is just set. Remove from oven and set aside to cool completely. Place in the fridge to chill.
Place on a serving plate. Top with raspberries and serve with thin cream.

Serve with a lovely cup of coffee!!

The Tradition of a Trousseau

The tradition of a trousseau is age-old, when a woman began sewing clothesat an early age in anticipation of her marriage.
The word ‘trousseau’ comes from the French word ‘trousse’ meaning ‘littlebundle’.

While the concept of a trousseau is no longer practical, the idea ofshopping for your wedding night and honeymoon is still enduring and relevant.The implication is timeless! New clothes for a new life!

Depending on where your honeymoon is, you might be packing bikinis for thebeach or evening dresses for a European escape. Combine fabrics – cashmere,cotton, silk and lace – to create versatility.

It is important to take into account if the lingerie can be seen throughyour wedding gown as some fabrics can be clingy so something plain but made ofsilky fabric is a good choice. You should take colour into consideration aswell. Neutral colours like apricot or flesh coloured lingerie are lessobtrusive under a white wedding gown.

Choose the right bra for your gown!

Depending on the bodice of your wedding gown your choice of bra will beimportant as you do not want to be adjusting straps all day. Strapped or straplessit is a good idea to wear the bra for a day prior to your wedding to make sureyou are comfortable. Taking it to all your fittings can also ensure you have theright lingerie for the day. Most Lingerie fitters are experienced with advisingyou on the right style for your dress.

Another part of your trousseau is the Going Away Outfit. Choose an outfitthat looks glamorous and can be worn again, plus matches jewellery andaccessories that you may already have. You won’t be able to wear your weddingdress again but your Going Away Outfit can be a reminder of the special day formonths or years to come.

As we all know your wedding day is one of the biggest day of a womans life, with so much planning all going in to just one day the pressure is on to look good!

So here a few little beauty tips, to help you look and feel great on your special day.

Have this done when your going to be out and about and having pictures taken, something like a birthday is an ideal event.

This is good as you want to get peoples reaction and not only that but seeing yourself in the pictures afterwards will give you a clear indication on whether you like it or not.

At least then if you feel there is to much or to little make up applied there is plenty of time to make changes.

A good make up artist can do up to 20+ weddings a year and are very experienced so you'll always be in safe hands!

Take pictures along of any make up that you have seen and liked to help give an idea when trialing a make up artist!

Then last but not least, the hands!

As you will be aware of, from being engaged, one of the first questions is ''Show me the ring?!'' and what is the ring attached to? One of your fingers!

So make sure that you have a manicure before the big day as you will have another ring and no doubt everyone will want to see that too!

If your nails are in a little bit of need, more than just a manicure, there is a wide range of nail enhancements around to polish up those nails and make them look great so there are no excuses.

Looking for that healthy and fit look for your weddingday that will have all eyes on you?

An early focus on increasing fitness or beginning yourpath to a realistic and sustainable weight management plan can optimize yourhealth and ensure you are looking fit, healthy and glowing on your wedding day.

Developing agood fitness level does not start or stop at the gym door, it involves being more active.

In general suchas climbing the stairs instead of taking the elevator, moving around instead ofsitting still, sitting up instead of lying down as well as showing someexcitement and enthusiasm instead of boredom. Every mile starts with a step.

Now that we got our first step right, lets move on tothe next one. This preferably involves a personal health assessment with yournaturopath or doctor, then a visit to your personal trainer for an exerciseplan & goal setting session. A personalized approach rather than a genericone is most likely to bring successful outcome. A lifestyle counselor or life coach can also be of help with goalsetting and positive reinforcement.

If you think you can achieve your goal using those ‘fancy’starvation diets as a way to control your weight, think again. People who diet without exercisingoften gain weight with time. Although your weight may initially drop while ‘dieting’,such weight loss consists mostly of water and muscle. When the weight returns,it comes back as fat.

The right wayto avoid gaining weight over time is to increase your metabolism by exercisingregularly. When you exercise especially during long lowimpact sustained activities such as walking, your body creates a fat-breaking enzymecalled “hormone sensitive lipase”.

Studies have revealed thatthis fat breaking enzyme is active for up to twelve hours from the momentit has been triggered. The same enzyme is also involved in cleaning all bloodvessels of fatty plaques and deposits. So, no amount or type of dieting willproduce all the positive results you are looking for, unless you exercise.

Start a fitness & diet journal to keep track ofyour food intake and exercise schedule.

Do not skip meals - skipping meals lowers yourmetabolism, decreasing energy, slowing weight loss and also decreasing yourability to use food to your advantage, you may even gain weight by skippingmeals. Regularity is the key here, your body likes rhythm.

Make food fun and exciting; eat fresh, small regularmeals. Breakfast on sensational ‘energy smoothies’ with fresh fruits or ½ cupof porridge. After breakfast give yourself an half an hour break than head to the gym or local park for a highenergy/power or tone/muscle focused workout, start your day with power!

Lunch on salads, fruits or soups, eat fresh cheese ornuts for protein, try to avoid breads and pastries, for beverages use water(your body is 75% water), fresh juices and supplementation. Seek support foryour weight management journey, whenever needed use your team of professionals- no need to ‘go it alone'.

Late afternoon or evening, go for a walk or jog,attend a class or visit your personal trainer before preparing a healthy dinnerwith plenty of fresh vegetables. Dinneris a great chance to share achievements of the day with a friend or chroniclethem in your fitness journal.

Hands up whoorganised a Summer Wedding? In Adelaide we are heading towards five days of HOTweather with 40 degrees Celsius on Sunday (100 degrees Fahrenheit) so we atWedding Style Guide thought it was time for a Summer Wedding Hint for your man!

The groom’sjob is to look gorgeous, fresh, unflustered and perfect in every photo all daybut Summer has ways of bringing even the coolest customer undone.

Guystend to just grab the jacket and go. But when it’s off to be married on asummer’s day, when the thermometer hits record highs, you can’t rely on gettingthrough the most important day of your life without planning for the heat.

Tolook good you must be comfortable. Choose a light fabric for your suit, don’tbe caught in a winter-weight weave. If wearing a vest, make sure it has a satinback which will be more suitable.

You could even choose a vest that looks good WITH the jacket off!

Checkout the suit without the jacket. In extreme heat and later when dancing, thejacket will probably be removed; the pants have to look flattering.

It’snot a regular day, most grooms are nervous and nerves can lead to more sweatingthan usual. Add in the heat factor and a perspiration condition can really kickin. Carry a crisp, white cotton handkerchief to wipe a glistening brow and damphands. Tissues can disintegrate quickly and leave you without the help youneed. There will be a lot of handshaking, your hands should be wiped dry,nobody likes to touch a clammy paw.

It’sa long, long day with many potential grooming pitfalls like the shirt gettingsoaked with sweat early in the day or red wine being spilled down the frontlater in the evening. It’s all happened before; a wet shirt is not a good look.Hot feet perspiring and starting to smell as if they were in a pair of gymsneakers is embarrassing. Perspiration can be a nightmare on hair, making itfall flat. It’s wise to have wardrobe and grooming quick fixes on hand to makesure you look your best and the photographs show a great looking groom, not adamp one.

Packa smart looking bag and include all the emergency grooming odds and ends thatwill end up saving the day by making you feel fresh and look crisp.

Include:

a spare pair of socks
hanky
a spare shirt on a coathanger, so it doesn’tget creased,
deodorant,
hair product,
shoe cleaner,
breath freshener.
If a fiveo’clock shadow tends to appear at 3pm, throw in the shaver and some aftershave.Don’t use a new aftershave for the first time on your wedding day, it won’t smelllike you and it could cause an allergy and skin rash.

Youmay not need to turn to these reserves, but if you do; it will be a lifesaver.Pop the hold-all into the boot of a car of someone you know will be there untilthe end.

Beingone of the two stars on the wedding day is a bit like running a marathon, lookafter yourself from the start with a good breakfast. This will help get youthrough the day and give energy to battle the heat.

Reassessthe wedding day’s morning activities.

A game of golf with mates might soundlike a great idea, but if it’s 40 degrees, you might exhaust yourself and notfeel 100% for the wedding itself. Heat stroke is a real possibility. Take iteasy on the morning of your wedding.

Havebottles of water handy all day, don’t become dehydrated, or you mightn’t feelon top of the world. If you are thirsty, you are already dehydrated, so drinklots of water.

Morning dress has always been a popular choice for those hankering after a traditional wedding with all the trimmings. But did you know that not under any circumstance should a morning suit be worn to a wedding that starts after five in the afternoon? Morning suits are a great choice for those weddings to be held in the colder months too!	Duke and Duchess of Cambridge
Four Weddings and a Funeral	Hugh Grant was the ultra-attractive groomsman in full morning suit regalia in Four Weddings and a Funeral. It's entirely possible that his heartstopping good looks in the formal outfit single-handedly prompted the renaissance of this classic!
Don't worry if it's not a morning event despite the name, morning dress can be worn into the afternoon to weddings held before five o'clock.
The morning coat or cut-away is usually black or dark Oxford grey and has tails. The shape differs from a traditional tail coat and is closer to a frock coat in style, the skirt of the coat is knee length. Formal trousers, traditionally worn with a morning coat, are grey striped with one pleat on each leg and should not have cuffs. Custom prescribes a grey, buff or white waistcoat, double or single breasted; weddings are the only occasion that colour variations are permitted. Braces should be worn to prevent the waistband from appearing beneath the waistcoat. Etiquette dictates that only the father of the bride and the groom wear grey morning coats; other bridal party members wear black coats. These days this rule is rarely enforced but a rule is a rule!
At weddings an Ascot tie or cravat is worn with a wing collar, however in more recent times a plain black long tie is acceptable, worn with a turn down collar. If the shirt has a turn down collar it should have sleeves with a double cuff fastened with cufflinks. On a wing collar shirt there should be a single cuffs fastened with cufflinks; a shirt with detachable collar and cuffs is the more traditional option. The shirt can be either pleated or plain, the most formal shirt colour is white, however if a coloured or striped shirt is worn it should have a contrasting white collar and cuff. In The Man's Book (2006) by Thomas Fink it states that if ever there was a time to wear a buttonhole, this is it. A simple white carnation or other white bloom attached to the lapel is most appropriate for morning suits.	The Man's Book by Thomas Fink
	Shoes should be a plain black Oxford style with laces and without brogue detail; never patent leather which is reserved for formal evening occasions. Black or dark grey silk or wool socks are appropriate.
For the ultra traditionalist a grey or black top hat and grey gloves completes the ensemble. According to Vogue's Book of Etiquette, in the 1940s a walking stick or umbrella was the height of correctness to complete the tradtional morning suit look.	Vogue's Book of Etiquette

Stand Up or Sit Down Reception?

Bridal couples are looking for the best of both worlds!

We are a sociable bunch these days and the traditional sit down reception can restrict your friends really mingling and enjoying your wedding. Have you ever thought about having a caterer offer a roving entrée, seated main, followed by a roving dessert?

This idea could be perfect for food-loving couples who can’t make their mind up between a sit-down and cocktail-style reception. It is a great idea and could mean a lot more fun for your family and friends at your wedding.

The key to this experience for your guests would be the delivery of a variety of dishes to sample, as this can become a part of the fun. It can add to the social air as your guests discuss the delicious food they are being served. A roving selection of fine canapés and drinks gives you time to greet your guests and relax before being seated for the main course.
