The Annual Meeting of the Gunstock
Mountain Historic Preservation Society (GMHPS) will be held at Gunstock
Mountain Resort on Monday June 25, 2012 at 6:30pm. The Historical Society
is planning a major fundraiser to restore the ski jumping complex of four jumps
that began to be used in 1937 but have not been in used in several years. The
sport of ski jumping has seen a recent resurgence and the Gunstock ski jumping
complex is unique in that it offers a young jumper a progression of ski jumps
with 10, 20, 40 and 65 meter jumps. Double Olympic medalist Penny Pitou is one
of the founders and current member of the Gunstock Mountain Historic
Preservation Society. She began her skiing career at the
Belknap Recreation Complex and was a ski jumper who competed throughout her
high school years.

The Historical Preservation Society is
in building phase and has had many accomplishments in just a short period of
time. Those include: the jumps
being named on NH’s Seven to Save in the fall of 2009, Rededication of the
Torger Tokle Jump in 2010, The Historical Preservation Award from the NH
Preservation Alliance in 2012, the continual cataloging and preservation of 75
years of history at Gunstock, and having the base lodge placed on the NH State
Register of Historic Places.

The Annual meeting will be a general
discussion of the current work of the Society and a great opportunity to get
involved. All are welcome to
attend and those with a passion for history and the outdoors will find this
group warm and welcoming.

Tough Mudder Lands in Central New Hampshire June 1-2

Date: 2/21/13

February 11th,
2013

Gilford New Hampshire—The mud
will be flying in the Lakes Region this spring, as Gunstock Mountain Resort announces
it will host Tough Mudder on June 1-2, 2013.

Tough Mudder is “Probably the
Toughest Event on the Planet.”
Over the past three years, Tough Mudder has built a series of more than 50
events around the globe. The Gunstock
event is just a short drive from the Boston and Portland, ME, metropolitan
areas and expects to draw more than 12,000 participants throughout the weekend.
After being posted on Tough Mudder’s
website for fewer than six hours, some local hotels were already fully booked
in preparation for the event.
Those travelling to the Lakes Region can make reservations online at www.gunstock.com at one of 22 partner hotels.

This is not your average mud
run or spirit-crushing road race. Tough Mudder is a 10- to 12-mile obstacle
course challenge designed by British Special Forces to test all-around
strength, stamina, camaraderie, and mental grit. Participants may don
traditional running attire, but costumes and mullets are encouraged, with
best-of awards being given out for both.

Participants will charge onto
the course with fellow Mudders — battle cries are essential — and will proceed
through 20 to 25 obstacles, each designed to test strength in a very different
way. Participants will brave
freezing cold water, wade through thick mud, tackle underwater tunnels, finesse
high ropes and scramble through multiple cargo nets before finally navigating their way through a gauntlet
of electrified wires to earn the coveted orange headband and the right to be
called a Tough Mudder.

The event is listed as Tough
Mudder’s Boston event. Registration
is open now at ToughMudder.com

“We are excited to host Tough
Mudder,” says Greg Goddard, GM of Gunstock Mountain Resort. “Gunstock is a perfect venue for this
type of event, and our team has developed great partnerships at the mountain
working with larger events such as Soulfest™ and Timberman Ironman™. The timing of the event will
provide great opportunities for local businesses after Memorial Day and just
prior to BikeWeek.”

“Our event promises to challenge even the toughest of men and
women in New England on multiple levels,” said Sheetal Aiyer, Vice President of
Venues at Tough Mudder. “Participants
will be challenged physically and mentally, and they will need the help of one
another to make it through the course. We are changing the way Americans think
of endurance challenges and having a lot of fun along the way.”

Tough Mudder is a proud
supporter of Wounded Warrior Project (WWP). To help its cause and to support
the needs of severely injured service men and women, Tough Mudder is offering a
special discount to participants who see competing in a Tough Mudder as an
opportunity to raise funds for WWP.

Additional Tough Mudder
events are planned around the globe for 2013. For additional information on
Tough Mudder, visit www.ToughMudder.com.

Tough Mudder™ This Weekend at Gunstock

May 28, 2013

With Memorial Day weekend behind us, the Tough Mudder™ team is busy getting ready for their event this weekend, June 1st and 2nd at Gunstock Mountain Resort. “With 25 plus obstacles over 10+ miles, the Tough Mudder™ crew has been actually here since April” says Greg Goddard, GM at Gunstock Mountain Resort. “This is a big event, and we have been working closely with them and local officials since winter to get everything ready for this.”

Tough Mudder™ is unique. It’s not your average mud run or a spirit-crushing road race. Tough Mudder is a 10- to 12-mile obstacle course challenge designed by British Special Forces to test all-around strength, stamina, camaraderie, and mental grit. Participants may don traditional running attire, but costumes and mullets are encouraged, with best-of awards being given out for both.

Participants will charge onto the course with fellow Mudders — battle cries are essential — and will proceed through 20 to 25 obstacles, each designed to test strength in a very different way. Participants will brave freezing cold water, wade through thick mud, tackle underwater tunnels, finesse high ropes and scramble through multiple cargo nets before finally navigating their way through a gauntlet of electrified wires to earn the coveted orange headband and the right to be called a Tough Mudder. “Our event promises to challenge even the toughest of men and women in New England on multiple levels,” said Sheetal Aiyer, Vice President of Venues at Tough Mudder™. “Participants will be challenged physically and mentally, and they will need the help of one another to make it through the course. We are changing the way Americans think of endurance challenges and having a lot of fun along the way.”

Tough Mudder™ is a proud supporter of Wounded Warrior Project (WWP). To help its cause and to support the needs of severely injured service men and women, Tough Mudder™ is offering a special discount to participants who see competing in a Tough Mudder as an opportunity to raise funds for WWP.

Due to the size of the event, all parking will be at the New Hampshire Motor Speedway. THERE IS NO PARKING AT GUNSTOCK FOR THIS EVENT. Parking at NHMS is $10.00 unless you have 4 people in the car, then it is free! Parking lots at NHMS will open at 6 am and shuttle buses will run continuously throughout the day. Registration at Gunstock begins at 7 am, the first wave goes out at 8am. Only Preregistered Camping and Adventure Park guests will be able to park at Gunstock.

If you want to watch ToughMudder™ you will not be alone, but you should register online at www.toughmudder.com . Spectator get to see all the fun during the day at the event. Preregistered spectators are $20.00, Registration on site to spectate is $40.00. Kids 10 and under are free.

This promises to be a fun event, and with great weather expected for the weekend it will be the place to be on June 1st and June 2nd in the Lakes Region. Click here for the events one sheet.
