I attended this talk on Explporing Linguistic Features for Web Spam and Using String Distance Matrices to Lemmatization of Polish Names. So will write some key points from the topics.

Explporing Linguistic Features for Web Spam:

Task is tough due to:

Complexity
Scale , and
Adaptive nature of spam

The point of interest to me was use of CORLEONE developed by JRC, Ispra. As the attributes generated by this system seem of some interest in regard to my reserach. I think I can take a clue from their reseach and use it for mine.

Also they were using GENERAL INQUIRER by harvard university, but I am not much interested in it.

Using String Distance Matrices to Lemmatization of Polish Names:

Task was about synonym and homonym names.

The impotant thing that I liked in this Talk was DISTANCE MATRICES. I will just write a bit about these. There are different categories to these:

Edit Distance Matrices: these include Leveshtein Distance, Bag Distance, Needleman-Wunsch, Smith-Waterman, Smith-Waterman with Affine Gaps
q-Grams
Longest Common Substring, Jaro, Jaro-Winker
Recursive String Distance Matrices: These include Monge-Elkan, Sorted Tokens, Permuted Tokens

That is an outline of what I have learnt from todays talk given by Marcin Sydow at Trinity College.

Writing after a while. It was a nice time. away from all the tensions, free of worries and work, with a friend who have met after a long time, nearly three years. It was a thrill filled and nice time in Paris. Went to some very famous land marks there.
Although it was a short tour, but enjoyable and memorable one. Went to Eiffel Tower. It was really wonderful experience there, a chilling one as well. I thought it to be maximum of chilling time that I would come across. Next day went for some shopping and went to Arc de Triomphe du Carrousel and some other landmarks nearby.
Next day it was Disneyland. It was really fun being among the children, with a glow on the faces, enjoying each and every moment. I was missing someone while being there, who would have enjoyed loads and loads over there.
On the last day we went to the Da Vinci Code Pyramid, Louvre as they call it. It was short break, but I will remember it for long.
Another memorable happening, not a nice one though, was awaiting me.

After three months or so of insight into the frameworks and the literature, now we are goiing a step ahead and closer to the exact thing we are to work on. Although this was decided a week ago, but being bit lazy and not willing to write the blog, I am writing it today. This was the week of induction into research as Post Grad. It was quite informative and motivating as well.
Rest the good news is that I will go to India soon enough and for long enough.

Its all over but surely it was all so nice and truly it was a feeling I have never felt before, a feeling of achievement, a nervousness and missing something. Surely I was missing those eyes in the audience which I would have loved to be looking at me and feeling proud and honoured to see me. But it was really worth coming and cherishing the moment with robe on and receiving the degree in front of such a huge audience.

I am back amidst all those people, with whom I have spent most of my past two years. Its nice and feel like being home not exactly at home, but definitely I like being with them. I arrived here two days ago.
Tomorrow will be the day, which I have waited for a long. Its my graduation day. I wanted my parents to be there, so that I can see that feeeling in the eyes. I wanted them to feel proud looking at their son, achieving something that they have supported all out, knowing nothing about what it is.
It is still a big day for me and all those who wanted me to be here, and go further. No one will be there but I know that they will all be very happy for this achievement.
I am very thankful to GOD for showering His blessing and making me able to stand up to this achievement. Then for this I thank my parents, friends(all who have always been there and some who met me during this), and also to some who have been my beacon, inspiration and all who prayed for this achievement. I say this is the due to the hard work of my teachers, right through the life. Without anyone of these I would have never achieved what I am feeling so happy about. I would like to thank, although its not enough, someone who held me when I was, yes at one point I did, thinking to quit this.
GOD and all of them being there again, they will be, I will achieve few more of such days and hopefully some of these people will be there with me on such days, not to mention GOD always being there.
Will say more, maybe tomorrow.

sleepless nights

I have not been able to keep blogging everyday. I thought to do it that way when I started writing it.
Anyways, I am having sleepless nights all these days. Nothing else but just programming. I have never been into this thing like this and that too, so regularly.
I have added this blog to my ORKUT, hoping that it may help me updating it everyday or so. Something about orkut. I am trying to unite all from JNV Patiala in the Community. I send message or scrap to quite a lot of student whom I found on Orkut. But only two or three have so far joined the community. That is not so cool but atleast some one or two to start with. Hopefully all of them will join.

Learning on the way

I didn't tell in the last blog about some new things that I have learnt.
First of all I installed Miktex and WinEdt for writing the papers. I have learnt to write the paper last week but was not able to put in the references in place.
Today I learnt that. It was just a trick to compile the things time and again, nothing to write or edit.
I also learnt more about using Eclipse, fairly admitting this is the first time I am using the IDE, mainly about debugging.
Rest as it will come.

Today is the first time I have actually used .jar files.
It was good new thing to learn. I learnt three commands for creating, viewing, and extracting the .jar files.
Creating
jar cf output_jar_filename input_filename(s)
Viewing
jar tf(v) jar_filename
Extractiing
jar xf jar_filename
This week was quite educative one as well as the sorrowfull one.

It has been quite a few days, that I have written anything in this blog. The study and research are now taking tthe proper shape. Everything is falling into place apart from me. Now I getting a feel of how it wil actually be. It will be bit harder than I was thinking till now. But once this initial hard phase is over it will be enjoyable work. I am using the eclipse for the first time, doing coding for my classifier. It will be hard work for next few days.

First Lab

It has just passed. My first calss (lab) is about to finish. It all went quite fine. Just few questions from one student. Everything went fine. It was easier being a lab, not much of interaction with the student. They knew what they were to do and they did it themselves.
The question about what to be send was answered by the teacher whom I called.
That' s it. I have done it for the first time.

In nearly half an hour's time I will be taking my first teaching class. It will be a lab in HCI. I am lot excited and a bit nervous as well. I don't know how it will all be in the class, how students will behave and react. I hope and am quite confident as well that everything will be fine.
Moreover, now the thing are all falling into place.
