I thought you might like to know that I will be speaking at the Iinternational Conference on Knowledge Economy (ICKE2009) at the IDC, Sandton, South Africa, 20-22 October 2009. This looks like being a great conference with several excellent international speakers such as Ng Kok Chuan, John Girard, Ron Young and Dan Remenyi and I hope to see several of you there :-)

I plan to stay a little long in Johannesburg and also visit Cape Town for a few days and if you would like me to give an internal talk, run a Knowledge Cafe, a Knowledge Cafe workshop or a Social KM Cafe for your organization or simply meet-up for coffee or dinner then please get in touch as I'd love to hear from you.

Knowledge sharing is a key issue for business success but real knowledge sharing requires an open mindset and continues to be a challenge for many companies. One way of energizing an organisation to achieve real knowledge-sharing benefits is the use of Knowledge Caf�s. A Knowledge Caf� is a face-to-face meeting, providing an effective vehicle for opening up discussions that lead to sharing. It can be employed as a tool to share tacit knowledge used within teams or Communities of Practice to question entrenched assumptions, help facilitate learning from others and gain a deeper, collective understanding of a subject through conversation.

It is not just about talking and networking, though these are secondary benefits, but allowing people to engage each other in "dialogue" with the aim of learning from each other rather than entering into unproductive debate and attempting to impose their views on the other which invariably end in failure and frustration.

Specifically, a Knowledge Caf� can it can be your easy, low cost way to make knowledge sharing work for your organisation by:

I regularly run Gurteen Knowledge Cafes in London and Gurteen Knowledge Cafes are also run in Bristol and Liverpool on my behalf. And from time to time I run one-off events else where when I am travelling around the world.

This time I am running one much closer to home - at Cadbury in Birmingham thanks to Nancy Kinder who is hosting the event. The Cafe is free and if you are a Gurteen Knowledge Community member or even if you are not - you are welcome to come along for the evening. Bonnie Cheuk�
Dr Cheuk is the Global Head of Knowledge & Information within ERM based in the London Office. Since 2006 Bonnie has led the establishment and implementation of the global knowledge sharing (KS) strategy for ERM. This is ERM’s investment to ensure best ideas, knowledge, methodologies and tools are shared effectively both internally as well as with our clients. Currently, Bonnie heads up the intranet & internet team and she is responsible for internal communications and external online communications with clients. Bonnie has successfully rolled out Minerva�- ERM’s global knowledge sharing and collaboration platform using Web2.0 technologies and which aims to promote cross-boundary collaboration in order to deliver the best service to clients. The work has been showcased in Inside Knowledge Magazine (October 2007). In February 2008 ERM won the Environmental Business Journal Award for Organizational Innovation. In January 2009, ERM won the�Nielsen's Top 10 Best Intranet Award 2009.

Mark Clark
Mr Clark is ERM's Global Health & Safety Director. He is responsible for ensuring the operation and improvement of�ERM’s health and safety programs�and safety management systems worldwide.� Prior to this role, Mark was the Assistant Director of ERM Remediation & Construction Management in ERM's Europe, Middle East & Africa and North America Regions and was a project manager with ERM focused primarily on projects involving construction management and site investigation and remediation.� He has additional experience in the design and development and Environmental Management Information Systems (EMIS).

Philippa Weaver
Ms Weaver is the facilitator of this event and will provide you with guidance and help to join this event. She leads on ERM's Knowledge Sharing Training and Coaching Program and helps ERM employees use Web2.0 tools, such as collaboration sites, profiles, blogs and wikis,�to increase work productivity.

Job: Head of Fraud Information Sharing

A government agency seeks a Head of Fraud Information Sharing. This role will directly contribute to the strategic aims of the organisation by delivering the outcomes and objectives on better information sharing. This will require a senior lawyer to develop and coordinate the capability of the counter fraud community to exchange information on fraud, fraudsters, the causes and consequences of fraud in order to better direct the national response.

We are seeking a Solicitor or a Barrister who: - understands and appreciates the strategic importance of information sharing and effective knowledge management;
- has a strong grasp of the technical and legal approaches and challenges of sharing fraud information (including intelligence based information) within and between all sectors of the economy, both public and private
- is able to influence stakeholders to change working practices for improved performance across government; and
- Can communicate results effectively to a wide audience without losing context or rigour.

A large part of the role will involve engaging with and influencing a wide range of external stakeholders including law enforcement agencies, regulators, national and local government, private sector bodies and international partners in order to establish and develop a clear understanding of:

- the legal and regulatory environment that directs or constrains the exchange of information between counter fraud stakeholders
- the technical and resourcing challenges faced by stakeholders;
- organisational priorities and practices within stakeholders.

� The post holder will engage in a number of self or team directed projects and activities: prioritised to challenge inertia; remove obstacles and identify solutions delivering effective information sharing.

� One of the key functions of the post will be to engage constructively with key stakeholders. �This will sometimes involve either meeting, or arranging events involving stakeholders and the post holder will, therefore, occasionally need to travel nationally and internationally and sometimes to work outside of normal office hours.

� The post holder will require current security clearance (or the ability to obtain and retain) up to Developed Vetting level, therefore you must be a British citizen you has resided in the UK for at least the last five years.
