Gusties came together during Rally Days (April 2-7) and showed that Gusties Do Shine! Together, we increased alumni giving participation by 2.4% and received over 700 donations. Thank you for participating!

Get your tickets now for Cocktails at the Castle: Light Up the Night at the American Swedish Institute happening Friday, May 6 from 7-11 p.m. Tickets are $17 for ASI members, $20 for non-members, and $25 at the door.

In what has become one of the Twin Cities’ hottest events, Cocktails takes over the ASI Courtyard and Turnblad Mansion with a theme that celebrates the return of light and spring. While there you can see the art exhibition, The Watercolor Worlds of Lars Lerin and listen to the music of Sofia Jannok, nominated for two Grammy Awards who also is spending time at Gustavus during her visit from Sweden. The Gustavus Office of Admission invited high school juniors and seniors beginning their college search to Preview Gustavus, the final Admission event of the academic year. 

Visitors have the opportunity to tour the campus, learn about academic departments and facilities, and speak with Gustavus staff and students. There are sessions reviewing the college search timeline, applying to Gustavus and how to access scholarship and financial aid resources. Family and friends are welcome.

Each spring, Gustavus welcomes back its most golden of Gusties for reunion weekend. This year, we celebrate the classes of 1971 (45th reunion), 1961 (55th reunion), 1956 (60th reunion), and 1951 (65th reunion). The golden anniversary class is 1966, marking their 50th reunion. The class of ’66 will also join the ranks of the illustrious 50 Year Club at the 50 Year Club luncheon on Saturday, May 28.

We look forward to a weekend of reminiscing, sharing stories, and times with one another.

April Door Prize

This door is inside a campus building likely to used by the majority of students during their time on the Hill. The building opened in 1972 and is the second building on campus to bear the name of a Swedish humanitarian and diplomat (the first building was renamed). As student and academic needs develop, these doors and their building will be undergoing updates and renovation in the future.

We are in the final days of Gustavus Rally Days!

Rally Days are a week focused on generating participation to the Gustavus Annual Fund, which provides critical support of Gustavus operations year over year. Bringing back the great days of phonorama, alumni volunteers are helping to rally classmates and encouraging everyone to support the College with a gift of any size… participation is what matters most! Need some more hints? These doors are part of an academic building that opened to great fanfare in the 1960s. The occasion of its dedication even lead to the formation of one of College’s Signature Events that continues today. This building has already seen some renovation work and will be undergoing more thanks to historic levels of philanthropy to Gustavus.

Join the Gustavus community in marking the 21st Annual Building Bridges Conference on Saturday, March 5 in Christ Chapel. The conference is open to the college community and public. Tickets are $10 and are available online.

This year’s Building Bridges Conference will focus on two major aspects of the War on Drugs: the effects of the United States Government’s massive spending on drug-fighting efforts, and the role of United States Drug Policy in the creation of international and domestic violence. Through this conference, we hope to educate our community about the average US citizen’s proximity to instances of violence that may seem far removed from their daily lives, but nonetheless contribute to loss of life, liberty, and human dignity.

About Building Bridges

Building Bridges is an annual social justice conference that takes place on the Gustavus Campus every March. It is completely organized and executed by students. Each year, the conference co-chairs choose a new topic to address an especially relevant social issue.  Past topics include: rape culture (2015), environmental justice (2014), and mass incarceration (2013). Now in its 21st year, this organization is committed to its mission of making the world a more socially-just place.

Summer Gatherings are back! These casual events bring together alumni, parents, and friends in various locations across the county under the banner of Gusties. Locations, dates and activities are determined in cooperation with volunteer hosts. The Office of Alumni & Parent Engagement will assist with the preparation, though the fun comes directly from the Gustie guests. We do have a number of Summer Gatherings already planned for 2016, but if you are interested in hosting one in your community, please contact the Engagement Team.

For those Gusties in the Twin Cities metro area, we’re proud to offer again Twin Cities week, July 9-16. There will be a variety of activities around the Minneapolis/St. Paul area that includes opportunities for families, outdoorsy types, music buffs, and good ol’ fashioned socializing with friends. Stay tuned in the coming months for details!

Do you recognize the door is using? To what beloved residence hall does this doorway belong? Here are some hints…

Even though Gus did not see his shadow right away, he did find a nice sunny spot by the archway that connects the two sides of the building. The hall was originally built in 1929 as a men’s dormitory. It was named after a professor who taught for 55 years and who also served as acting College president for a few years.

Come back to the Hill on Saturday, January 23 for the Athletics Winter Showcase and The Hill Crew Kick-Off for alumni, parents and friends. The Hill Crew is an amazing new group of over 750 Gustavus students that support athletic teams and creates an atmosphere that is uniquely Gustavus.

Great Hill Crew apparel is now for sale for a limited time! The Hill Crew athletic apparel is only available January 5-31. To receive your apparel prior to the January 23 Winter Showcase, orders must be placed by January 14. (After that, delivery is about two weeks.)

For $15, receive admission to men’s and women’s basketball and men’s hockey games along with pizza between basketball games and cookies and hot chocolate after the first period of the hockey game. This event will give you the opportunity to join and engage with students of The Hill Crew and cheer on the Gusties.
