Councilman Gerry Drasheff has served as a member of the Guttenberg Town Council for the past seven years.

During that time he, along with his fellow elected representatives, has been instrumnetal in accomplishing the following:

Placed the Town of Guttenberg on a sound fiscal footing.
Secured over $1 million in County Open Space Funds for the purchase of land on River Rd. to be developed into a riverfront park.
Convinced County Freeholders to permit the wideningof the sidewalk on Boulevard East to provide for the creation of the mini-park in front of the Veterans Monument.
Complete replacement of the playground adjacent to the Klein School.
Obtained over $.5 million in county funds for the purchase of land adjacent to the Klein School to be used for a new community recreation center and to help alleviate overcrowding in the Klein School.
Obtained over $400,000 in County Open Space Funds to help defray the cost of constructing the riverfront park.
Increased police presence and supervision on the street by the use of Special Police Officers and civillian dispatchers at the police desk.

This is just a short list of what Councilman Drasheff has helped to accomplish over the past seven years.

The firing of a Taser stun gun that led a man to fall from a building ledge to his death on Wednesday in Brooklyn appeared to have violated departmental guidelines, the police said on Thursday.

The department said in a statement issued by the chief spokesman, Paul J. Browne, that according to policy, a Taser should not be used when a person could fall from an elevated surface.

The lieutenant who gave the order was placed on modified assignment, the statement said, while the officer who fired the device was given administrative duties.

The statement said that the officers at the scene had called by radio for an inflatable bag as the events unfolded, but it had not yet arrived when the man, Inman Morales, 35, was struck with the device and fell.

“None of the E.S.U. officers on the scene were positioned to break his fall, nor did they devise a plan in advance to do so,” the statement said, referring to the Emergency Service Unit.

WASHINGTON--"I believe the debate is going to happen as scheduled," said Barack Obama top advisor Robert Gibbs on Thursday morning about the first presidential debate scheduled for Friday night in Oxford, Mississippi.

John McCain said he will not show up if Congress had not made a deal on an economic bailout package. McCain, Obama and the congressional leaders meet with President Bush at the White House this afternoon to find common ground on a rescue plan. Congress balked at the $700 billion bill Bush sent to Capitol Hill. Bush on Wednesday night signaled he is open to a bi-partisan compromise.

While the debate is supposed to be focused on national security and international affairs, Gibbs said the rivals have been told the subject of the financial crisis would be incorporated in the questioning.

"I think it will be an important, the beginning of an important series of events in the campaign...an opportunity, the debates are an opportunity for Sen. Obama to talk about his judgment and his vision for the country and I think also we'll see Sen. McCain, somebody who bragged repeatedly about his knowledge on foreign policy issues, so obviously he goes into the debate with an advantage on that terrain," Gibbs said, downplaying expectations.

Gibbs spoke at a reporters breakfast hosted by the Christian Science Monitor.
