Last week I had the pleasure of DJing at the Lacoste L!VE event in London that The Daily Street organised. As part of the event, I recorded a mix for The Daily Street that is currently being given out on a Lacoste USB drive with every purchase at that branch of Lacoste.

Here, Guy Andrews successfully follows the trajectory taken on his Discobelle release, acting like a more melancholy counterpart to the brittle syncopation of Joe or the Jazz/IDM-inflections of Four Tet and El Kid. A-side ‘Shades’ bears a structural influence clearly inherited from more post-rock-y headspaces, but with meticulously calculated beat programming and breakbeat funk dynamics akin to Anstam. B-side ‘Textures’ is more dubby, spaced-out and rolling, propelled by air-carving drum syncopation and supple, elastic bass pressure with well-timed Techno chords arriving at the crucial moment. Boomkat review:

Cool debut of deft, grooving electronic Bass music from Guy Andrews on the Discobelle label - home to the likes of Brenmar and Myrryrs. With ‘Your Notion’ he’s found a neat niche of swinging, mid-tempo UK House almost like a screwed, more melancholy Julio Bashmore, while ‘Klikkr’ is more stripped, with bare-bones but playful rhythms reminding of Joe. ‘Unita’ standouts out as the uptempo exception with crisp rhythms a few shades from the likes of Throwing Snow, but a proggier, electroid arrangement of his own, and ‘Exit’ is back to that smoother mid-tempo sound with subtly captivating melodic instincts and deft drum programming.
