Where to start with this wedding? I could start with the all-round magnificence of the day. Or perhaps with the sheer stunning-ness (is that even a word) of Becky. Or the calm, utterly charming Steve. Or the sublime eye for detail that this amazing couple showed with every element of the wedding. Or the sheer excellence of Bury Court Barn as a venue (a big thank you to Nicky for everything she did).

But no, there’s only one way to start this wedding, and that’s with the word EPIC. Epic for the journeys of those that arrived after events seemed set to prevent any guests, musicians or the registrar from arriving. Thanks to a perfect storm of big crashes on the A3, the A31 and a huge Hindu festival going on a few miles away our 1pm ceremony turned out to be a 2.50pm ceremony. Late then, but did we care? Nope (ok, maybe Becky did a teeny little bit). Didn’t matter in the end though and WOW what a wedding we had. An absolute privilege to shoot from start to finish. Tears, laughter, elegance, vintage details everywhere. I loved every minute of it. Please can I have some more?

Becky – thank you for being so willing to go with everything. For giving this humble wedding photographer a dream bride to work with. Beauty, elegance, humour, wit. You have it all. You gave us two memorable lines yesterday – one I can’t repeat here but you know the one I mean. The other, when your Mum was trying to curl her hair with little success, ‘Mum, they’re not even on’. Thank you, thank you.

Steve – buddy, you’re an absolute gem. If you could have seen Becky when she read your letter you’d have cried yourself (again). I can’t remember having to turn away because I was welling up before, but I did yesterday. You’re a man out of time. A gentleman in the truest sense.

To you both, I wish you every happiness together. You’re wonderful and were a joy. I might have mentioned that I’d have a job limiting the pictures when I blogged this one. I wasn’t lying

I am proud of many things, but I have never felt the pride I feel when I look at my daughter, Jess. The heart she has. The way she cares for her friends. Her enthusiasm for life, for trampolining, for chocolate, for endlessly inventing new worlds for her toys, for cuddling her Mum, for being able to look at life with the wide-eyed innocence of a 7 year-old girl. I have wished for her innocence. I have wished for the ability to look upon the world as a mountain to be conquered rather than a cross to be borne.

I’m not the best dad ever. I fail. I shout when I should be sensitive. I set bad examples. I swear too much. I’m sometimes unavailable and distant and my parenting skills are often a disaster on par with a reality show on Channel 4. But I love her. I love her like I’ve never loved anything. I love her more than I love anything. I’m not a religious person or someone who believes in fate, destiny or any of that stuff, but I believe I was put here to love this girl. And I do.

Entirely.

Now, I know I haven’t blogged this AMAZING wedding yet, but it’ll be up here tomorrow at 3pm. The reason? Well, it was nothing short of fantastic and I thought that Rebecca and Charlotte over at Rock My Wedding might be interested in running it. Becky had put an incredible amount of thought and effort into the day and she is stupidly creative. So we waited for them to get back from honeymoon and put pen to paper to describe the various parts of the day.

I know Ollie from a previous life when I had a proper job. He’s a top, top man. Genuine, a massive taker of the michael and one of the good guys. Laura, his new wife, is just WOW. Beautiful, funny, she’s got it all. Talk about a good-looking couple.

They chose Northcote House for their wedding and it was a brilliant day. They managed to avoid rain, catch the sun, bring loads of equally good-looking friends and lovely families. All the ingredients for a cracking wedding then. Heck, we even managed to find Laura’s bracelet after it went missing during the day.

The lucky Mr and Mrs Pearmain are now in Bali soaking up the sun. Thanks both, you were brilliant.

As you’ll know from this site I’m a member of the International Society of Professional Wedding Photographers. They hold quarterly contests for wedding photography and I entered for the first time a couple of months back. 2 images, and I didn’t expect to place. The contests are open to all ISPWP members right across the world. Only the best 20 shots in each category are given placings, and when you think about the number of weddings shot over the summer, across the world, well that’s an awful lot of great photography.

Now the good news – both images placed!

The judges commented that the shot has ‘Great timing and angle, tells the story well’.

The judges commented that the shot had a ‘great angle, love the depth to this image’.

So, well pleased with this result, especially considering the ridiculously high standard of wedding photography on display there.

Ollie is my friend. Laura is now his gorgeous wife. I loved being there. Thank you, and enjoy Bali.
